  • My iPhone 3GS battery loses at least 30% charge when off for at least an hour

My iPhone 3GS battery loses at least 30% charge when off for at least an hour, I took it in to an apple retail store at the end of 2010 and they told me it was fine but advised I restore and set up as a new iPhone which I did, it got better for about a month then went back to normal losing battery. I have no hardware coverage left and my specs are: iPhone 3GS 16gb  IOS 4.3.3 white. I have had it since December 2009.

I'm afraid I don't. I don't know if the phone is still within warranty. I don't know which country you are in. I don't know what third party repair companies charge where you are.
Hang on - I do know one thing: if your phone is still covered by warranty - it's free!

  • My iphone 3gs battery drains very fast

my iphone 3gs battery drains very fast it won't last for whole day
i just uses mail application and  facebook for some time
can u tell why the problem is or need to change battery

I'm having the same problem with my 3Gs.  In my case it is not the apps int he background or the brightness, or wifi or email push.  The folks at the apple stroe tell me that there is some software glitch that shows up every few months.
I can only get rid of it by restoring my phone as a new device.  In which case I lose all of my contacts, settings and all data.  VERY frustrating. I had recived two new phones (before applecare ran out) and have done the resotre several times.  No one can tell me what is in that creates this probelm.  I've tried differenet chargers one by one in case they are the probelm.  one int he car, one in a kitchen outlet, one at my home computer (sync) and on at my office computer (non-sync).
Problem just showed up again randomly two days ago,  no new apps or hardware.  battery drains from full to 0 in two hours.
    Apple, please fix.

    Update of the firmware?
    Thanks
That is NOT what you said previously. You said: "I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data" We are NOT psychic. Your original statement does NOT indicate that you have 3g off.
If the phone is unable to lock onto the preferred  provider you set in manual mode, it will be constantly searching for the carrier signal. This will drastically reduce battery life. If you are out of range of the carrier you want to use, put the phone in airplane mode.

  • My iPhone 3GS battery

My iPhone 3GS battery is very weak it can not stand more than 12 hours after a full charge

same here.. . do i need to replace the battery for a new one?

  • My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.

My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.  I contact my local apple support and they said it is a normal case when battery is used for more than one year.  Where else can I can some reasonable explanations and solution from apple about my phone.  My phone cannot be used, and I have lost alot of valuable data and photos.  Can I recover them?  What can I do now?

If you've been using your phone as recommended, you've been syncing your data to your computer frequently, and importing any photos taken by the iPhone to your computer (or using photostream).  If you  havent' been doing this, then you've no one to blame for any data loss and any phone, which can be damaged, dropped, stolen or otherwixe become inoperable was NEVER meant to be a storage device.
As far as your battery is concern, is is NOT normal for the battery to "explode" after a year.  Contact an authorized Apple service provider or Apple itself to see what your replacement options are.

  • Iphone 3GS battery expanded

My iphone 3GS battery has expanded. I just updated to IOS 5.0.1. This means the Lithium ion battery charger never terminated or the battery float voltage was exceeded. I am an electrical engineer and have designed several Li+ chargers this failure is very severe and should never happen. There are multiple redundant safety mechanisms that must fail for this to happen. This can result in fire like that associated with the Sony laptop fires a few years ago. Has anyone else had this failure?

    Hi gdgmacguy,
As I stated in my question, I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so if it also occurred after updating to IOS 5.0.1.
Since a fire in you pocket or your home has the the potential to cause personal injury and property damage I believe the fellow users should be aware of the dangers associated with this type of catastrophic failure.
This same issue with Nokia in 2007 resulted in the recall of 46 million Li+ batteries.

As compared to 87% unlocked? What do you mean?

Yes, you can upgrade to a newer version of the OS.

  • 2  year old iPhone 3GS battery lasts only 4 hours?

    Hi,
My iPhone 3GS (bought in July 2010) battery lasts from 4-6 hours with light usage (no 3G, 5 mins of web browsing, 15 mins of music playback). It is definitely not an issue of iOS 5 as it was giving much better battery life even after the update. Tried restoring but no change. Also, sometimes it displays random battery charge percentages and shuts off on its own. When it is fully discharged, it takes 30 minutes minimum for the iphone to boot up even when connected to an iPad power adapter. Should I replace the battery?

Did you restore from backup or as new?  If from backup, restore as new and see if the problem continues.
If it does, take the device to Apple for evaluation of the battery.

  • IPhone 3GS battery life iOS 6.0.1

I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.0.1 and my battery life has gotten terrible.  Use to get all day off a charge not it's dead in <6 hours.  Any fixes?

I have the same issue w/ my 4s.  My battery life was more than acceptable running iOS 6.  I updated to iOS 6.0.1 & now my battery life is HORRIBLE!!!  I just charged my phone & according to the usage, ie. Time Since Last Full Charge, was fully charged, yet it only said 94%.  I shut my phone off after unplugging it & when I turned it back on, the battery read 97%... ?????
There is definitely something that needs to be addressed w/ the 6.0.1 update!!  Really wish I hadn't gotten it!

  • IPhone 3gs battery drainage

After upgrading my iPhone 3gs to IOS4,the battery heated up faster. I dont say its so bad,it's just warm. But I wonder if this is normal? How "warm" should it exactly be in normal working conditions? Plz ans ASAP. Thanks alot.

    hi rizz23
    sorry for late reply
your battery usage depends on how you use your iphone, keep your brightness down,,keep wi-fi off, turn the 3g off too,(unless your surfing on the web,and need fast connection),turn off vibrate too(unless you really need it on).
Give and take this would help your iphone last 4-5 days, again depending on calls ,texts etc

  • IPhone 3GS battery - Possible Fix

    Hello everyone,
So I've been lurking on this forum because I was having issues with my iPhone 3GS and its battery, which I had upgraded from the iPhone OG (2G). So I followed the advice that's on here and Restored my phone as "a New Phone" and went through a few complete charge cycles. I was still getting very little out of my battery despite completing all these steps. One charge that I recorded was:
    39% left
    Usage: 3H 8M
    Standby: 21H 13M
This was with Wifi, Push, and BT OFF; 3G ON. The usage was a few texts, and I'll be generous and say 1 hour of talk time, because I hardly ever talk that long on any given day.
So I went to the Apple store yesterday and had it looked at. The "genius" hooked it up to their Mac and did some sort of diagnostic test. He had me look at it and I guess they can track Usage because under a heading called something like "Avg Usage Since Last Restore", it stated 5+ hours with 89% of the battery remaining. I told him this wasn't the case. The Genius said that mechanically, the battery is above average and that the numbers my iPhone was giving were some of the best he had seen. However, the computer did show that there were issues with Apps not shutting down correctly and could be the culprit for my less-than-optimal battery drainage.
Long story short: he did a DFU restore on my phone, stating that there could be issues with the firmware when it was first laid on the phone. I went home, set it up as a New Phone, and it's noticeably better today, but I want to go through a couple charge cycles again before seeing if I should take it back. He did open a case stating that I had come in with a battery issue. He said that if I continue to have problems, to bring it in, but the reason he wasn't going to exchange it then and there was because my battery itself is functioning at above-average capacity.
Not sure how many people this will help, but if you think your battery is not functioning to its best, try not only to Restore the phone as New, but do a DFU Restore. It may or may not help, but doesn't hurt to try!
P.S. Thank you all for all your input on topics like this. Definitely helps to see what others are experiencing and the advice on this board is also greatly helpful!

I've had the same experience with my 3GS.
It was initially set up from a backup of my old (1st gen.) iPhone and had very poor battery life. Sometimes I would get only 3 or 4 hours of use per charge on a mix of iPod video and audio playback/web browsing/some light app use.
I reset all the settings on the phone, deleted the 3.0 software update from my computer's library, then connected the phone, re-downloaded the 3.0 software, and set the phone up as a new phone rather than a backup.
The difference is dramatic. My usage at the moment is:
Usage: 44 minutes (mostly web browsing, but I also have 2 email and 1 calendar accounts updating every 30 minutes, location services on, 3G on, wifi off)
    Standby: 5 Hours, 29 minutes
    Battery: 95%
Before the full wipe/setup I would have been at about 80% by this time of day.
