IPhone 3GS - camera freezes

I have a problem that I can't solve. I've been on the net trying to find a solution but nothing helped.
1.) I tried resetting the phone (both holding home button while startin up and resetting in the menu on the iphone)
2.) I tried deleting everything on it...
3.) Tried creating a new phone in itunes after deleting everything still same problem
4.) I tried deleting the video clip that made the phone get full.
It all started when I was a a concert and recorded a video. The video stopped since there was no more space on the device - quite logical. But when I switched it to camera mode next time it would freeze, the shutter being closed and the small icon "camera --> video" is grayed out and flashing strangely. Since it's grayed out I can't switch it to normal camera but it stays on video mode.
I've now deleted a lot of things on the iPhone but with no luck. The camera just opens with closed shutter and set in video mode with the "camera --> video" grayed out and flashing strangely.
WHAT CAN I DO?!?!
It's pretty annoying if I've lost my camera because of a software bug!!
Any help would be really helpfull!!!!

BTW, iOS v. 4.3.5 (8L1) and I would really prefer not to loose all my text messages and other personal stuff.

If you haven't already restored as NEW, without using a backup, that's what you need to do since you've exhausted all other troubleshooting steps. You'll have to make the Sophie's choice between your messages and a functioning camera.
However, if you already restored as new (your post suggested this) without success, there is a hardware failure and there's no point in restoring again. You'll have to take it to Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.

I have updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS5 and now it will not take photos. When I try to do so the screen goes black with the grey pinwheel and the phone goes back to the desktop screen. It has rendered my camera useless.

IPhone 3GS Camera App and Photo App Not Opening

Hi, my iPhone 3GS Camera Application and the Photo Application (Base Apple Photo-related apps "Photos", "Camera") will not open. When I tap either of them, it takes me back to the Home Screen and for a brief moment says "Library Updating", I have been waiting over a day for this to work and it still wont open.
If more information is required please specify what areas are needed below.

ok seems you have to do a restore...but in the process your photos might be not backed up so i suggest you download this

Hmm, then it could be something somehow with the actual camera sensor behind the lens or maybe software issue. But i'd recommend ringing Apples support line and seeing if they can fix it, if it's still in warrantly they should do it free of charge.

My iPhone 3GS keeps freezing when I try opening a text.

I have an iPhone 3GS which I updated to iOS 5 a few days ago.
The update has been fine up until now.
When I receive a text or email notification, I "slide to read" and as soon as I slide the button across to the right the iPhone freezes and I have to hold down the home button and lock button for it to restart.
It has done this 5 times now.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I have a 32gb iPhone 3gs and it regularly freezes when I lock the keypad. It sometimes comes unfrozen after a while (usually a long time) and sometimes doesn't come back at all and I have to reset it. I find that it consistently and nearly 100% of the time freezes when I lock the keypad when I have accidentally left the wifi connection on. Can somebody please help me and tell me how I can fix this issue? when the wi-fi is off it doesn't usually freeze, the problems mainly when the wifi is active. Thanks guys

Try this:
1. Open Image Capture.
2. Do a CMD+B to Browse Devices.
3. Uncheck the Connected box for "John's or whatever iPhone" and then recheck the box whose name changes to "Still Digital Camera."

IPhone 3GS Camera Crashes iOS 4.3 When Device Used In Cold Weather

I was in Chicago today where the weather was in the low 40's (high 20s with the windchill). As I was sightseeing and using my iPhone to shoot casual snapshots, the OS completely crashed when I was trying to take the picture. My iPhone has never crashed for any reason, but I shrugged it off and then restarted the device. I took two more pictures, and then the phone again crashed on the third picture. After another restart, the phone started crashing every time I took a picture without exception.
Fearing the worst that my phone was about to die on me while on a business trip, I headed back to the car and headed for the hotel. As I was driving back, I got to thinking that my phone has never been in weather this cold before (I'm from California). As soon as I got to my room, I put the camera beneath the heating vent and allowed it to warm up. Once it felt like it was room temperature, I picked it up and started shooting pictures to see if I could get it to crash again. After forty pictures, it was still working.
Are there any known issues with the camera sensor on the iPhone 3GS in cold weather? Another poster from Eastern Europe seems to be having the same problem with the same model phone:
