Iphone 3GS crashed after update.

Hi. It seems people have been having some troubles with the new 3.1.2 software update. So have I.
I just got my new 3GS and was thrilled to start using it. When I installed iTunes to unlock the phone I was recommended to do an upgrade. "Of course" I thought.
The upgrade failed. (Code 1604.)
I tried following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 (and, yes, I actually followed the steps exactly - except from the contacting apple part).
The problem remains. Is there something wrong with the new software?
I just freaking unwrapped the phone! It's barely a few hours old. (The few hours I've been trying to solve the problem is the few hours it has been used.) Should I run it over with my bike or just slam it to the floor?
Ok, I could just leave it to an Apple dealer but that takes time. I want this sucker to work right now.. I haven't even tried it out.
Got any advice?

Ah, nevermind. This problem was actually fixed with another computer. I tried three different computers with the same results. The fourth did the trick though.

Don't worry about that. iPhone stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPhone. There are two ways to solve it.
First is is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.
Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the Power and Home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the Home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it’s in restore mode.
If DFU mode can't solve the problem, I'm afraid the only solution is to try some 3rd party software, like iPhone data recovery or something like that. You may simply try the tutorial here: How to Fix iPhone that is Stuck in Recovery Mode.

Iphone 3gs crashed after installing new ios update

Please help. I just installed the newest ios update to my daughters iphone 3gs. It installed successfully, i thought. Then about 10 minutes later it said verifying update. It went off and now tries to come back on and the apple icon flashes for a few seconds and goes back off. I have tried a hard reset (both home and off buttons held down) and it does the same thing:( Please help me!

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
If no joy... Perform a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

Hi,
I installed iOS4.0.2 last week. My phone crashed after that and not coming up. So I tried to restore from itunes, my iphone is at recovery mode and didn't started after that. Even now my iPhone 3GS is not displayed in iTunes.
I checked USB port; reinstall iTunes etc. But my phone is not coming up. It is showing only one screen ( connect to iTunes) and iTunes is not showing any sign of iPhone.
Suggest how can I restore my iPhone 3GS.

It sounds as if you had a similar problem to me.
Does iTunes try to reset and restore your iphone and you get an error message 1604?
I tried everything that was suggest by Apple, and then someone on here said try a different computer and it worked. So if you can access a different computer it's worth a try.

Iphone 4 crashing after update 5.0.1

Ever since updating to OS 5.0.1, my iphone keeps crashing. At first it was while playing a game. Now at random times, it crashes.
I have also restored the os once already, still same problems.
Any help?

I have the iOS 5.0.1 update and I had a similar problem this evening after downloading two podcasts from iTunes:
1. From a clean reboot of the iPhone
2. Open Music App
After a brief pause, the Music App crashed.
I did a sync of the iPhone with my Mac, and the behavior changed slightly:
1. From a clean reboot of the iPhone
2. Open Music App
3. Tap More button at the bottom of the screen
4. Tap PodCast item in list
After a brief pause, the Music App crashed.
I tried removing all of the music items as described above. I also tried syncing the podcasts with the computer, and then unchecking the Sync Podcasts checkbox. This removed the podcasts. However, when I repeated the above behavior, the app still crashed.
I then synced my unplayed podcasts from iTunes and did the following:
1. Open the Settings App
2. Tap the General Item
3. Tap the Usage Item
4. Under the Storage list, tap the Music item.
5. Under the Podcasts list, remove all of the podcasts, except the last one that I downloaded this evening.
6. Press the Button at the bottom of the iPhone to leave the Settings App
7. Open the Music App
8. Tap More button at the bottom of the Screen
9. Tap the Podcasts item
At this point, my one remaining podcast appeared in the list. Subsequently, I resynced my podcasts from iTunes to my iPod and was able to listen to my podcasts.

HT201412 iPhone 3GS unresponsive after updating to iOS 6.1.3

My unlocked iPhone 3GS's touch screen and volume buttons has become unresponsive after allowing iTunes 11.0.2 to update the iPhone to iOS 6.1.3. I have tried restarting, resetting and restoring the iPhone several times. It will no longer function at all without a SIM so I purchased an "Amaysim" prepaid SIM so I could use the phone however this has not acheived anytihng.
My phone is now a brick - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Iphone 3gs freezes after updating

my son has reset his iphone 3gs from the phone settings, i have not got a clue what OS version was on it, it was reset because his sister borrowed it and put a load of girlie music on it, now it just sits with apple logo and a frozen timer, there is a thin white line about a centimetre down on the screen running from the center to about a centimetre from the right side of the sceen, unit then shuts down and then restarts only to do the same thing again, wont show in i tunes version 5.0, was in perfect working order untill this issue, anyone know how to sort this out, Help please

I am having the same issues with my 3gs. It is constantly crashing whenever i run any apps for more than 3 to 5 minutes. I have reinstalled and backed up everything but it is still having issues.

before ios 7 I had no problem with using my iphone 5... however, ever since I have updated it it has started crashing .... the screen turns black and it gets broken ... When I attempt to bring it back to its working condition by using itunes...it opens up in recovery mode so I need to restore with the latest update (ios 7.03) everytime time it crashes...
is this a software issue or a sign of a possible hardware break-down (i.e battery or board)

some things to consider. restart pc and turn off all security software including firewall - unplug all other usb devices printers ect.. - try different cable and usb port
make sure itunes is updated
heres instructions for force recovery mode after above is completed
recovery mode
open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not iOS device
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

Your phone is in recovery mode. You must connect the phone to your computer using USB and restore using iTunes.

Complete iphone 6 crash after update to iOS 8.3.1. No possibility to reconfigure or even restore factory setting.

Tried to update my brand new iPhone 6 to iOS 8.3.1. Stopped in the middle of the update. After connecting via USB to itunes a) update of configuration without success and b) reset to factory settings without success: "an unknown failure has been detected (code 56)".
Seems after putting a day's work into getting the phone setup and now wasting the whole evening trying to get the update mess sorted out, I now have the choice between waiting one week to cue in an apple store 100 km away or to send my phone in.
Anyone sharing my fate? Any ideas how to save me from the oddyssee of Apple service?

Iphone 6 crash after update, red screen, looping

I got the new iphone 6 and ever since the last update my phone has gone into a loop on the apple logo (reboot) mode twice, and all I can do is restore my iphone. I have not done anything illegal to my iphone to cause it to go into this mode, nor have I done any weird updates.. I will simply be using my phone and the screen will suddenly turn red and blank out on me. I can do nothing to fix the problem except for restore my entire iphone. This is extremely frustrating because it seems to go into this mode every time it tries to back up the contents or update. I have no idea how to fix this issue and I don't know anyone else who has this problem with their iphone. I am a new iphone user and I'm tempted to switch back to samsung because of this recurring issue.

I talked with a Apple Service provider and they informed me that it was either a glitch in the phone when the backup happened, and I had to either restore as new and slowly add back all my information... and if that didn't work I would have to send my phone in to apple so they could find out the physical issue was with the phone.
Mine happens when it is trying to update, usually around 1 a.m. and my red screen appears no matter what... it will filter out and come back.. etc.
Extremely frustrating, a phone this new should not be having these types of glitches and issues.

Do what it says and connect to iTunes. You can then complete the update with iTunes, then restore your backup from your computer or iCloud, whichever you chose as your regular backup location. You can even keep backups in both; I do.
