Iphone 3Gs Dead, very warm to touch

Iphone is dead, cannot restart and is very warm to touch. No response when hooked to computer or to charger. Tried resetting, no good. Anybody have any ideas?

Plug it in for a few hours to a Main Charger (NOT a USB on a computer) and then try Recovery Mode... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

My volume on the iPhone 3GS is very low. Is it an equipment problem, settings problem or update problem? And, is there a fix other than having Apple fix it?

Have you had a look here to make sure it is set up how you want it...

  • Iphone 3GS Dead maybe...

I read through different threads about people with dead iphones and only came on when doing the hard reset. If an iPhone is in this dead state should it still be recognised by a computer or display charging screen?
Reason i ask is that my iPhone 3GS could have a dodgy power button i had trouble with it for quite a while sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. This could be a reason why the hard reset will not work for me. At moment i iPhone doesn't get recognised by computer or display any charging screen.
Thanks, If the power button is the culprit is there any other way to do hard reset? or fix a power button without opening the case?

ok different quesiton lol if booked an appointment at the genius bar and told them the power button is not working so i cant hard reset it to turn it on, would they open the iphone and check the power button there and then ? or send it off?

  • Iphone 3gs got very hot and wont charge

I have had my iphone 3gs for about a year and a half.  last night I left it on a 3rd party wall charger while I slept, which I bought a week ago and have been using since.  I woke up 4 hours later to find my phone was so hot i couldn't hold it.  No joke it was as hot as my wood burner gets when its been running all day.  It also had no charge.
Now my screen shows it needs plugged into a charger, and when I plug it into a charger it shows it is plugged in with a dead battery (red empty battery and a lighting bolt). after about a minute the apple icon comes on the screen and sits there for about 5-10 minutes before it turns back off, and shows the red empty battery with the lightning bolt.  If i leave it plugged in it just keeps repeating this cycle.
I have used a docking station to try and charge, as well as 3 different usb cables plugged into my computer.  I have reset the phone repeatedly today for hours with the power button and home button held in for 10 seconds.  I have even put the phone in DFU mode and restored to factory settings with itunes.  While plugged into the computer, itunes didnt even recognize my phone until i put it in DFU mode, then itunes popped up and restored. when it rebooted after restore it just continued with the cycle of turning on and off, showing its plugged in with a dead battery.
I cant go to an apple store with a warranty because I have broken this phones screen multiple times and taken it apart to successfully fix it.  Last time I replaced a screen was a few months ago so I know that me disassembling the phone is not relevant to todays problem.
Has anyone else had this problem, or any suggestions to get my phone to charge and turn on completely?

Yes, I had this problem. I even phoned apply up & they never knew what it was. Or a solution, but if it's the same problem as I had, then I have a simple, but annoying solution. What happens is the iPhone overheats (normally whencharging and being used, so it stops charging to stop itself from melting. To make thephone charge again try holding it under a fan to cool it. Like I said it worked for me :)

  • Iphone 3GS dead

HELP MY IPHONE 3GS IS TOTALLY DEAD tried all no success ..

So do I and unless its a recent purchase from O2 or whomever, you will either have to ask them to send it away which takes ages even if they agree to do it, or make a trip to an actual store.
Its not that far to an Apple store unless you live in Stornoway

  • How to pair iphone 3gs and 4th gen ipod touch? ipod finds iphone but iphone finds nothing?

Just bought an Ipod touch 4th gen. for my son. I have an iphone 3gs and was hoping to pair the 2 by bluetooth and find an app so if he's in range i could locate him since most places he prolly can not connect to wifi. However, the ipod finds my iphone and neigbhors device but my iphone searches and searches but finds nothing? Few other questions, 1st semester ITSEC student going through networking class i see 802.15 blue tooth only has a range of about 30 ft so this prolly won't help me much if i do get them paired. When pairing throught bluetooth is this an AD HOC connection or is and AD HOC just using RF to connect nodes? Anyways if you have advice why my ipones 3gs is not finding other devices and the best apps or ways if possible to locate the ipod through my iphone in public?

The iPhone does not support the protocols necessary to do what you want. Besides which, bluetooth is not directional in any way. I don't understand how you intend to "locate" him even if you could pair the two devices and they had unlimited range. You could set up the free 'Find my iPhone' service on the iPod and if it's on a WiFi network, you may be able to get an approximate location.
As for why your 3Gs will not find other devices, the bluetooth profiles support handsfree devices such as headsets, A2DP audio streaming and bluetooth keyboards ONLY. You will never be able to pair it with another phone.

  • Help,my Iphone 3gs is very slow on ios5

    Help,my Iphone 3gs 16Gb is very slow on ios5!
What can I do to get al the speed there is (if any)?

Same thing for me.  I hit a button and then it's waiting, waiting, waiting.  Now my iCal on my phone is totally hung up and not working. I've just posted about it - I don't know how to fix it so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.  I haven't moved to iCloud. I heard that could be disastrous.  My battery drains really fast now, too.  I just wish I could go back to the previous s/w level because everything was working perfectly then.

  • My Iphone 3GS is very very slow after 4.0 and 4.01 upgrade

    Hi,
I have upgrade my iphone 3GS to 4.0 and 4.01 version and now this is getting really worse than with V3 OS version. I have reset it several times but it continues working slow. Is that normal with the new OS? Can I return to Ve IOS?. This is not the Iphone I buy and the Iphone I want

I have been having problems with very slow performance with both upgrades. With 4.0, I tried resetting my phone to original settings, then synced, but this didn't help. Just trying to activate the area to put the URL in Safari (or the Google search area) often takes forever, same with filling in forms on the web. And Mail has been very slow as well -- it takes a long time for the data to come up. I don't remember having these issues with iOS3.

  • My home button on my iPhone 3gs is very hard what should i do???

I am having a problem with my iPhone 3gs home button it is very hard and misses a lot what should i do??? Pls advice.

If it is still in warrenty i would just take it to the apple store and let them look at it. However if not i could recommend going on amazon and getting an iPhone repair kit and opening the iPhone up to reposition the home button in the phone which may fix your problem.

  • IPhone 3GS freezes very often

    Hi,
I have a pretty new iPhone 3GS (since early january)
I use it with the 3.1.3 OS
The problem I have with it is that it often freezes with the little loading circle in the middle(like the one in the middle of the page here http://www.unwiredview.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/google-mobile-app-for-ipho ne-with-voice.jpg ). It happens when I'm using Calendar, facebook application, iPod application or even when I slide my home page from one screen to another. In other words, it only freezes when I'm touching the screen somehow.
I tried several times to restore it to fabric settings in iTunes using the Restore button, and it still happens after a little while (around one day later)
I'm a simple guy so I don't do really sophisticated things on my iphone: I only use it to make call, listen to songs and youtube/safari/facebook so I guess that isn't the problem.
Recently. I restored it again (for the 2758357285 times) and after few hours, I can't even open my iPod application. when i click on it, it shows a little the black background of the iPod, but then comes back immediately to the home screen.
My iphone capacities are getting lower and lower.
Can someone tell me how to resolve this problem?

    Okay MAJOR resync problem !
You need to do a complete restore to factory settings and restore from backup - that 12Gb of Other is all corrupted files and data.
First backup the phone with iTunes and make sure your backup completes.
    The do this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    You'll be fine.

  • IPhone 3GS error - very strange

Something really awkward happened with my iPhone 3GS today.
As I wanted to transfer a song to my iPhone, I connected it to the iTunes and have been through the classic procedure of synchronization. However, certain errors occured already during that time. The loading bar, situated on the top of the iTunes window, showed that the synchronization was complete to about 95% - and it stopped there. I shut iTunes completely 20 minutes later, but the mobile screen showed that the iPhone was still being synchronized. Then I ended the synchronization manually on the iPhone by swiping my finger on the cancel toolbar, and then I shut it down, just to be safe.
The problem is that the iPhone has been shutting itself down for three hours now. I see nothing but a blank screen with the round loading symbol. The iPhone hasn't freezed - it just won't turn off. I tried everything - I connected it to the iTunes, but iTunes says that it cannot connect with the iPhone due to an "unknown problem". I pressed all the buttons on the phone, but it just doesn't bring me anywhere. The phone keeps shutting itself down, but it doesn't switch off completely.
    What am I to do?

Hold HOME and SLEEP at the same time for 10-15 seconds, until an Apple logo appears. If the phone does not restart see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Before doing this, however, disable your firewall/antivirus and connect the phone only to a USB port directly on the computer, not to a hub.

  • Iphone 3gs dead- help!!! see more details below.

I have a iphone 3gs- I had the old operating system so I tried to upgrade it.My phone is unlocked and jail broken.
I tried to plug it in itunes and see if i can restore it. The computer/itunes did pick up that an iphone was connected and said I need to restore it. When the restore finished, it said ''the software for the iphone was corrupted during download'' I tried the restore couple of times, no luck.
I tried to charge it from a wall charger and from the computer as well. Still no luck.
I tried the hard reboot as well- hold the on/off button and the centre button together for a min...no luck here again!
Any ideas? Thanking you in advance!

When I bought the phone from someone, I got it that way- didnt know all this technicalities of jail breaking then. Now I know!!!
Hence, i'm trying to restore the phone, and bring it back to factory settings so that it becomes un-jail broken!
Thanks for replying! will follow your link ans see what happens!

  • My Iphone 4 is very warm to the touch and the battery is not charging. Any suggestions on how to solve this without getting a new phone?

I plugged my iphone 4 in this morning, at the time it had a 20% battery.  In the last four hours the phone has begun to overheat and the battery appears to be between 2-3% charged, keeping in mind it has been plugged in four hours.  I unplugged the phone, let it rest for 10 min it was still warm.  I turned it off and it didn't cool down much in the 10 min it was off.  Turned it back on, plugged it in and still nothing has changed.  I have turned off all running apps through settings.  What can I do to save my phone?

Something may have gone amiss on your iPhone.
To attempt to correct this follow these steps:
Backup your iPhone using iTunes or iCloud.
Use iTunes to completely restore your iPhone as Factory new.
Monitor battery usage to see if it is normal. If not, you may have a hardware problem - if so, contact Apple support.
Restore your iPhone from your backup above.
Check battery usage to confirm that it is still normal.
