Iphone 3GS Docking Distortion

Hi Guys,
I've an iPhone 3GS which seems to have distortion problems when docked or connected to an implified output. The issue is that you lose control of the output volume of the iPhone so it sets it to 100% by default. So, when connected to a docking station or my Harmon Kardon drive + play, the distortion level makes for very poor playback.
Previously I connected via the 3.5mm jack which allowed for volume control on the device so turning the volume down on the iphone and up on the stereo erradicated this issue.
This seems like a bit of a flaw in the software of the iphone, can anyone help?

Hi,
Does anyone else have this problem, or is it a faulty iphone?
Many thanks.

  • Searching Dock with for Power supply and Audio Out for iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
I am rather new to Apple stuff but I now have an iPhone 3GS which I would like to use with my Yamaha Pianocraft.
The Yamaha has an optional iPod Dock. As far as I know, this would allow me to do things like pause, next track etc. via the Yamaha remote. However, I don't really need this and I would also like to be able to play audio from apps such as internet radio apps (e.g. 977)
So the Yamaha also has an AUX/Audio In connector on the back where I can simply connect my iPhone 3GS. Then I will just hear everything not through the iPhone speakers but through the Yamaha A/V Receiver.
However, this option would require me to have a cable connect at the top (headphone jacket) and at the bottom (connector for power supply), which does not look that good.
So I would like to have an iPhone 3GS dock that provides audio out as well as power supply. I have found three products for this (German Sites because I live in Germany):
    Apple iPhone 4 Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MC596ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTgxNTkwOTg
    Apple Universal Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MB125G/C?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTA4NDc4NDA
    Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.de/Dockingstation-Apple-iPhone-Audio-Out-wei%C3%9F/dp/B003UP77 HQ/ref=wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I18C98SXGWLNIF&colid=29EKL14S3VRAN
As far as I am aware, the iPhone 4 Dock from Apple cannot be used with the iPhone 3GS. Is that correct? Is there any solution or an "iPhone 3GS Dock" available?
Can these docks also provide the audio from apps via audio out?
I hope you can help me.

Well on the backsite this product has audio out but not power, only the iphone connector.
If I want to use this station in one place only and not for syncing, I will have to buy another iPhone USB cable and another wall to USB adapter (altough I have come at home from other products).
Is there no dock that will not require some special iPhone cable?

  • Import From iPhone 3GS Directly Into iMovie '09?

I don't think this is possible. Can you import from your iPhone 3GS directly into iMovie '09?
With my iPhone 3GS docked, if I go to File > Import from Camera… the only device I get is my iMac's iSight camera. Why doesn't the iPhone 3GS show up?
Yes, I know you can import videos into the Finder using Image Capture. And you can import them into iPhoto and THEN into iMovie. But how come you can't go directly from your iPhone 3GS into iMovie '09?

You right about the iPhone 3Gs work-flow:
_ Connect your iPhone 3Gs to your Mac
    _ Launch iPhoto
_ Import the iPhone 3Gs videos using iPhoto
    _ Launch iMovie
_ iMovie automatically detects the videos from iPhoto & requests if you want to Generate Thumbnails
_ Then go to the iMovie > Event Library > iPhoto Videos

I don't believe its powered since Apple specifically states that only POWERED devices should be connected.

  • Iphone 3gs no video to tv with apple cables and dock

i have a 80gig classic 5th gen which i use with the apple component dock and cables to watch videos on my tv.however to get it to work correctly i have had to use a 3 plug scart adaptor for the connection at the back of the tv. discarding the component green and red pb, pr cables and only using the audio and blue.
if i use the component connection as i am meant to then the picture is not very good and is in only shades of red and white.
i cannot get a picture from my nano 3 gen ipod or my new iphone 3gs no matter what arrangement i use.
i can confirm all the leads were bought in february this year including the dock with remote - all as detailed on the website suitable for use with both the new iphone and nano 3 gen.
i have checked and tried all the various combinations of the settings and connections to no avail.
i was going to buy a new classic 160gig but im now afraid if i do it wont work.
can anyone on this forum provide reasons why the nano and iphone wont tv out as meant to, the only thing i can think of, is that the leads have been upgraded without being advertised as so - and if true is very underhand by apple.
iphone, nano 3 gen, classic 5 gen Windows Vista

Not sure what the problem could be, but have you looked at the manual for the ipod touch? Maybe it can help.

  • Looking for competent docking station for iPhone 3GS

I'm having a terrible time finding a good docking station for my new iPhone 3GS. Before I bought it I used a 5th generation iPod 60GB. I have a belkin usb hub/dock for it that works great. When my computer is off it charges the iPod, and it's a powered usb hub as well. Occasionally I would plug in an AV cable to watch content I purchased from iTunes on my TV.
I'm now trying to find a dock with equivalent or better abilities for the iPhone 3GS, and I'm coming up empty. Here's what I need in order of importance:
    1. *Plug into AC and charge iPhone when Mac is off, while still being connected via USB so that it will sync automatically when Mac is on.*
    2. Pass through dock connector to another dock connector on back so that I can connect Apple composite cables to TV, via the dock.
    3. Powered USB hub with 2 or more usb ports.
    4. A media card reader would be a really nice plus and make it perfect.
The closest I've found is the Griffin Simplifi, however the FAQ for it on their website states this:
"Will the Simplifi charge my iPod or iPhone while my computer's powered off or asleep?
Even though the Simplifi has its own power supply, your iPod or iPhone requires an active USB connection to charge. This means that the Simplifi will not charge your device if your computer is powered off or asleep."
I'm pretty sure their explanation is technically inaccurate, and simply a way of trying to shift the blame for their stupidity on to Apple. Nevertheless it makes this dock utterly useless (see item 1 above).
Is there any way to accomplish what I need, or is it hopeless?

Costco was, and may still be selling, the iHome Model iD95....  I think this model is only carried by Costco.  Other retailers such as Amazon.com sell the iHome iD83 App-Enhanced 30-pin iPod/iPhone/iPad Alarm Clock Speaker Dock.  See the description of this model at Amazon.com.    Both my model and the one on Amazon.com are described as a HOME SYSTEM for your iPad.    It has a dock on the top of the AM-FM Radio which will accommodate either an iPad, iPod or iPhone (up to model 4s).  If you have an iPhone5 or newest iPad, you can get a "30 pin to lightning" adapter to accommodate.   I just got an iPhone 5, and ordered the "30 pin to Lightning" adapter, so that I can once again use my iPhone on the dock.   It has 2 alarms, and numerous other features, including a battery backup, digital display, it charges your iPad/iPod/iPhone, and it has pretty darn good stereo speakers.  It's easy to adjust the base and treble.  Price when I bought it in September, was $79.95 and there was a $20 coupon.   It is easy to program music or Pandora from an iPhone/iPod/iPad, and can even program for music or Pandora before going to sleep and shuts itself off at a specified time, and then can turn on the radio or an alarm, or music or Pandora at a specified time in the morning.   I'm happy with it.

  • Will the Apple iPhone 4 Universal Dock Adapter 3-Pack fit into the 3GS dock?

I used to have an Iphone 3GS, so I bought a dock for it. Since getting the Iphone 4, it does not fit in the 3GS dock b/c the edges are sqaure. If I bought this three pack, can they be inserted into the 3GS dock in order to charge my Iphone 4 in that?

Read the tech specs from Apple's website

  • Could an old universal dock damage the battery of the iPhone 3GS?

I have an older Apple dock (model A1153, output 3.3V according to what is printed on the bottom). I cannot find it listed anywhere on the Apple website.
I briefly inserted my iPhone 3GS and received the message that this accessory is not made for iPhone and do I want to turn on airplane mode.
Is there any possibility that charging/syncing my iPhone in this dock would damage the battery (or the phone itself)?

Additional information (in case it matters): I found that the dock also goes by the part number of MA045G/A.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Docked iPhone 3GS automatically starts or resumes playing/HOW TO STOP

Last year, I brought my iPhone 3GS to an Apple store and presented the problem of docking the iPhone and having the iPod on the iPhone resume or play from the beginning whatever song had last been played on the iPod. I needed to stop that behavior. One of the tech people showed me how to do that (something about hitting HOME button and power on/off button of phone simultaneously or one after the other or something). I've forgotten how to do this! There must be somebody on this forum who knows this secret formula.
It's highly annoying to dock the phone in my car and then have the iPod on the iPhone just automatically start playing whatever was last being played. I do not want it to automatically play anything when docked. Right now, the only way I can sort of do this is to switch to a podcast and force the podcast all the way to the end of the episode and then hit DONE. The way that tech showed me was much more efficient and elegant.
Anybody know how to do this?

The checkmark is used to include or exclude the checked item in the specified action. For example, only songs with a checkmark are imported when you click Import. Or only checked songs are considered by Genius, or synced to a device. However, checking songs does not exclude them from shuffling.

  • Using iPhone 3GS with Apple Universal Dock

I want to get the Apple Universal Dock to use with my iPhone 3GS. The main purpose of this, at this time, is to hook up the iPhone to my living room speakers (computer speakers) to listen to music.
I know I could just use a mini stereo cable to hook up the dock to the aux-in on the speakers, and then be able to control everything with remotes. However, this would require plugging and unplugging the cable each time so that if I wanted to switch to watch TV the speakers would output the correct audio. Sorry if that is confusing.
The other option I'm thinking about is using the Apple Component AV Cable to hook up the dock to my TV, which outputs to the computer speakers, that way it could always stay connected and I can switch inputs with the remote. MY QUESTION IS WHAT WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE TV IF I AM JUST USING THE IPHONE FOR MUSIC AND NOT VIDEOS? Will it show a visualizer like with iTunes, album artwork, nothing? Please answer from personal experience. Thank you for your help.

  • Iphone 3gs keeps rebooting often when charging on Kensington Dock n Belkin

I recently bought a Kensington Dock and a Belkin FM transmitter *** car charger for my Iphone 3gs (OS 4). When charging on the dock the phone keeps rebooting often. It doesnt happen if I'm just charging the phone using the regular charger OR when USB connected to the computer. Can someone advise why this happens when charging the Iphone using a Kensington dock OR belkin FM transmiter *** car charger. Both accessories are suppposed to be compatible with Iphone 3gs.

Hate to say, but if your phone has been rebooted, restored or recovered.  It sounds like a hardware issue.  Send it to the refuribish line with the rest of them.   Now i know you said you restored it.  but there are a couple other ways of doing it that might help.
    1. Reboot methods. The first thing to do is try to reboot the iPhone, which you can do by holding the top button and the home button for about ten seconds. In some cases, the iPhone is actually still on, but a bug stops the screen from displaying anything, so you can reverse the problem by doing the reboot. If you still see nothing on the screen, try to plug the iPhone in and again try the reboot methods to see if you can get the screen to display.
    2. Restoring the iPhone. If the iPhone shows up in iTunes, but it still doesn't seem to turn on, it's definitely a display problem. When rebooting fails, you can restore the iPhone from iTunes, and this should fix whatever bugs caused the original issue. Realize that you'll have to reload your music if you restore to another software version. To restore, plug the iPhone in, go into iTunes and click the iPhone's icon on the side of the select screen. Click on the restore button and agree to the prompt asking if you really want to restore the iPhone's software.
    3. Recovery mode. You can put the iPhone into recovery mode if it has a charged battery by holding down the home button before connecting it to iTunes, then continuing to hold the button until iTunes recognizes that the iPhone's in recovery mode. Recovery mode is a bare-bones way of booting the iPhone that allows you to perform a restore when you're dealing with a serious issue such as the iPhone failing to turn on or display anything on its screen.
try one of these if you havent already.  if still nothing, its time to take it in or get a new phone.

  • 3GS docks - will they fit iPhone 4?

I have things like a desk dock, and more importantly the tom-tom car mount for my 3GS.
Do we know if these will fit the iPhone 4?
    I hope so.

I returned my 3GS dock yesterday since I've had it for less than a month and knew that it won't fit the iPhone 4. I actually don't think I'm going to buy a dock for the 4 because I really didn't use it that much.
Since the 4 is thinner than the 3GS, I would think that Apple would release an adapter that would allow the 4 to fit in devices that were made for the 3GS. Of course, they are in business to make money so I guess maybe not. I'm just lucky that all my 3GS accessories are less than 30 days old, so I can return them and get my money back to exchange for accessories that will fit my new 4! The new phone is less than a week away! Can't wait to see it!

  • IPhone 3G/3GS dock

I've got this "older" dock that worked for both my iPhone 3G and 3GS. It doesn't seem to work with iPhone 4. It fits, but doesn't connect to the adapter. Anyone else have this experience?

iphone 4 is not meant to work on the 3G/3GS dock.
Of course. Why would Apple just let me use the same accessories over the years. I believe I have a box filled with Firewire to iPod adapters too.
