Iphone 3GS Emergency

Im about to have a nervous break down
Ok
Story -
Got new iphone 3gs about a month ago, absolutely in love with it (first apple product) constantly downloading music, apps, ect as u do when u get a new iphone LOL
Last Saturday as i was synching stuff, i get an itunes message for auto update, updated everything to newest version of itunes. Ever since that update, itunes wouldnt recognize my iphone.
Kept getting a message saying 'An iphone has been detected, but could not be identified properly, disconnect and reconnect the iphone and try again.'
Tried doing my own research on how to fix the problem, yet nothing worked. Called up apple support, went thru all the troubleshooting steps yet nothing seemed to work.
An agent told me last option is to restore my iphone, he gave me the page with instructions from this website on how to do so. I followed everything down to a T, iphone restored but, when it came to the reactivation of it. it never came about. My iphone is still showing the screen of connect to itunes with the usb picture and itunes cd picture, it only gives me the option for slide for emergency.
i left my computer running with my iphone attatched maybe thinking it will take sometime for the reactivation to occur. nothing.
its saturday. im going out tonight. im left with no ******* phone that i want to smash against a brick wall atm.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I had the exact same issue after restoring. It stayed stuck on the connect to iTunes screen. I made an appt at the Genious Bar. He told me that they have some way to over ride the problem. He plugged it into his mac and voilà, it was fixed. He also told me that when you restore your 3gs, to NOT restore from backup, but to make it a new phone. He said there was a known issue with the phone
getting stuck on that screen otherwise.
Good luck! The restore didn't fix my problem, which was
whacked out app icons. I hope it helps you!

  • Iphone 3gs 'Emergency Only' Screen

After resetting my iPhone 3gs back to default, it rebooted to the 'Emergency Only' screen. I have an old SD card in it, but I don't plan on using the iPhone for calling, just to play games on. I have never jail broken it and have hardly even used it since about a month after the iPhone 3gs first came out (I know it was kind of a long time ago). I also no longer use Apple. Any help?

    Hi RandomUsarName,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to use your iPhone 3GS without cellular service but you cannot get it past the Emergency Call screen. After restoring, the iPhone needs to be activated to move past that screen. I understand that you have an old SIM card in the iPhone, but in order for the iPhone to activate and be used without cellular service, it has to be activated with an activated SIM card. Once the phone has been activated the SIM card can be removed. Please use the following article as a reference.

  • HELP:iPhone 3Gs OS 4.0 beta: Phone locked, can't go beyond Emergency Screen

    LS
    Prelude
I have recently installed the beta OS4 on my iPhone 3Gs 32 Gb and I have had some troubles for instance with the iTunes store: if downloading a song on the phone it would just crash, the Calendar is repeating reminders over and over (sometimes it would just not stop), had to do a few complete resets, the mediaplayer would just crash, twitter apps are crashing. It really is beta software but given the latest problems I now sincerely regret ever installing it.
    Locked
My phone this morning was locked in the "emergency calls only"-screen. I have tried everything from switching on and off, resetting through iTunes, hard reset (pushed the home button+on/of button simultanuously): nothing works, it will just return to the emergency call screen. iTunes tells me that the softwareversion perspired and i need to upgrade (?), after I try to do that it says I have the latest version and if I try to reset through iPhone or even synchronise iTunes says it can not access the iPhone. I am locked out of my own phone and can do nothing about it.
I need some professional help from Apple (or just someone very smart) as the only way out I see now is smashing the thing against the wall.
    Please help!
Kind regards and thank you beforehand!
    Papoise

Since your phone is no longer tied to a dev account, it looks like you won't be able to upgrade until te final release...
You can still downgrade, you'll have to put your iPhone in DFU mode. It goes something like this:
plug the iPhone into a computer
press and hold the home an sleep buttons until the "connect to iTunes" screen shows up
iTunes will detect the iPhone is in recovery mode
    you can now restore it
The down side os you'll lose you all your stuff that's one the iPhone, but I don't think that's avoidable now.
(If te above sequence doesn't work for you, google DFU mode.)
    Hope it works for you!

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

Place the Device into Recovery mode... All data / Content will be Erased.

    Note on Recovery Mode.
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Once you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
    Restore from Backup

But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work

  • IPhone 3GS stuck in emergency mode...

my 7 year old nephew tried to access my iPhone 3GS and I think he entered some wrong passcodes.  Next thing I know, I see the apple logo and then it's stuck in emergency with the picture of the usb going into iTunes.  How can I fix this without doing a factory restore?  It's been a while since I backed up my pictures, etc.

Thanks for the help.  When I plugged it into my iMac, it just asked if I wanted to restore it to the last time synced which was a few weeks ago.  Didn't exactly unlock my phone.  In any case, I lost a couple weeks of photos which was ok. It also didn't remember my settings for the apps (folders, etc) which was weird.

  • Brand new iPhone 3GS 32GB, put sim card in, turned on, Slide for Emergency.

I just bought an iPhone 3GS with 32GB black, I used the pin to eject the sim card socket, and put the sim card in.then i pressed the silver power button at the top right corner for 3 seconds, it turned on with the gray apple. Then it comes to "Slide for emergency" with this itunes icon.
    Now what do I do?

Ok seems to work. Thanks very much. Connecting to iTunes solved the problem. I presume I was one of the few cases where the iPhone didn't work without being hooked up to a computer first.
(I had read reports about this happening to people after they had upgraded, or 'jailbroke' their phone, but since I had done neither of these things, I was worried)
All iPhones have to be activated through iTunes. Usually it is done at the store when you buy it.

  • I cant get my iphone 3gs past the emergency calls screen

i cant get my iphone 3gs past the emergency calls screen, all i am getting is the picture of the charger cable and thats it.

  • Iphone 3gs (o2 monthly) start up problems - only shows emergency calls.

I've just got my iphone 3gs (o2 monthly), put the new sim in but the phone will only let me make emergency calls. I cannot see how/where/if I need to activate it. Help please!

Your phone was previously hacked to get it to work on a carrier other than the one it was locked to. Restoring it restored the carrier lock.  Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize an unlock. Not all carriers will do this. You will have to find out who it is locked to and contact them.

  • Iphone 3gs stucked on slide to emergency lock screen

i updated my iphone 3gs 4.1 to 5.1.1 but it stucked on recovery mode then i restored it from itunes(itunes said that it will update iphone to latest version but it updated it to ios 4.3.5)however to  when it completed the restore my iphone starts and stuck on lockscreen and instead of "slide to unlock""slide to emergency" is written and itunes logo and usb cord is also on lockscreen and in tunes it was written that "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be suppoted"please tell me what can i do

    Same problem is occuring here.
When powered on and slid to unlock phone will work fine (if the phone is not unlocked immediately and the screen is allowed to turn off before unlocking, step 2 happens immediately).
If the phone is allowed to lock itself and I try to unlock it will "freeze" with the slider all the way to the right.
It remains at this screen for around 2 minutes until the screen goes black and the loader image displays in the middle of the screen (the same display as if you switch the phone entirely off by holding down the power button)
The phone remains here for around 30 - 60 seconds and then will reboot.
    Go back to number 1.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

  • My iPhone 3gs is shutting down and going into un-recovery mode?? : (

Hi, its my first time on here, due to the fact that I have never ever had any problems with my iPhone 3gs.
    Until 3 weeks ago.
It all started when my e-mail decided that it was going to be difficult. so I go to restart my iPhone and my screen lock/ power button does not respond at all. then the trouble ensues.. two days later, (after I ran the battery to nadda so it would turn off) and was fully charged, my phone cut out while I was sending a text. I was connected to wifi. the cell service bars were gone, and 3-5 seconds later my wifi disappeared also. at this point I was thinking dude? and the touch screen was still functioning. so I checked the network settings and my screen became unresponsive. my phone then went instantly to a black but still lit screen and then was off. my lock button still would not work so it wouldn't turn on with that, so I hit the home button and it showed a screen with a iTunes symbol and a USB cord, and a slide for emergency call bar. also there was a little quetion mark circle thing so I tapped it and a screen with two four letter acronyms and a number set for each showed up. long story shortened, I call apple and am on the phone with them for 5-6 hours over the next two weeks. they were of absolutely no use, and proceeded to lay into me about how I am using too much data.. and that my phone is probably not going to be fixable.
I get it to work by popping my sim card and restoring it then puting it back in and factory reset it with the sim card in it.
I get it working again and it is fine until last night. same exact thing.
what can I do?? im lost.
    Information that might help..
my phone has had around 200+(10-30) gigs run through cellular data (3G)
about 450 gigs total including wifi.  X (
has never been jailbroken, dropped, opened, water damage etc..
    current i tunes/iphone updates.
    windows 7
    iTunes 64 bit
    AT&T
will post more info if you want to help ..
    THANK YOU!!!

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

  • Turning the iphone 3GS off and on

I've had my 16GB iPhone 3GS since its launch on June 19. I connected it to my computer and had it activated; it all went smoothly. Now whenever I turn my iPhone off and on or it dies it tells me that I have No Service and I must connect it to iTunes or only be allowed emergency calls. After I connect it to iTunes, this screen goes away and my iPhone runs normally again. Is there something wrong with my iPhone or SIM card and is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I would hate to be away from a computer and have my iPhone die on me..Thanks!

as long as there was no accident damage that caused it and its been restored then yes

  • IPhone 3GS Compass is a LIFESAVER!!! (Testimonial)

I went to DC for the Caribbean Festival this past weekend and as we were walking, we got lost and didnt know how to get to Howard University from where we were, so I pull out my iPhone 3GS and type Howard on the Maps app. It shows the location and the direction, and with the compass, it showed my exactly where to walk and what direction to go. Also finding the closest metro was easy with the iPhone 3GS, and it pointed me in the right direction and the compass showed us where to go...who'd think a compass in a phone would be so useful
    I love this phone!!!!
I just wanted to share how great this phone is lol

I agree, and here is my testimonial: It REALLY did save my you know what:
I recently had to RELY on my iPhone in a bad situation. I have a 60ft boat I had to bring up from Maryland where it was getting work done to it, to NJ, its a 2 day trip onboard and I found that onboard the compass worked surprisingly well, mind you I was in open water with no buildings or large structures around, but since I was in a middle of very populated areas had great 3G coverage even on the water. The compass was within a few degrees of 2 highly accurate marine gimbaled compasses and an electronic marine compass. Now a few degrees doesnt sound like much, but on open water with no other means of guidance, it actually can be quite bad, but I have to say for a handheld telephone, it was quite good. Here's the fun part, and why I will never leave home without my iPhone.. Before I left I had downloaded the Navionics Marine app from the app store, it works in conjunction with your GPS and compass, and states blatantly that it is not to be used for accurate plotting purposes. Ok, cool, it was only 4.99 and I wanted to see how accurate it was. About halfway through the first day of the trip we lost power to our starboard side, that included one engine AND the generator. No big deal really, we can operate slower on one engine, and the instrumentation onboard has backups not connected to the generator in case of failure like this. However we found one major problem.... the depth finder for the GPS apparently was somehow connected to the generator and we were in trouble, plus the main GPS went out but the secondary one, well, we didnt have the graphical map card for the area we were in - our stupid mistake not the equipments.
So, I whip out the iPhone, launch the GPS. It found us in a split second on the water, not the usual wait time. I launched the app, and knowing full well not to rely just on this app, used it to navigate the boat, and it did it PERFECTLY! Not only did I have a 100% accurate location, but I had accurate depths and tidal information thanks to the app. With the app we were able to avoid several low depth areas that would have had us ran aground pretty easily.
I would NOT recommend solely relying on this to anyone with a boat, but in this emergency, the iPhone, the GPS, and the compass along with this app, well, Im gald I had it. Very glad. it got us into the marina, we fixed our issue (blocked fuel line), and finished the trip successfully!
