IPhone 3GS features missing

I just upgraded to the 3GS and going through it i have found that some of the features are missing. for example, i cannot send a picture via text. the little camera symbol is not there. i did read that that won't be available until late summer, but, i just wanted to be sure before i go back to the store and require about it. also, i am not able to send a photo from my camera roll via MMS or send to mobileMe. is this another function that will be available late summer?
thanks!

MMS is not available in the U.S. yet.
Sending a picture via text and MMS are the same thing.

  • IPhone 3GS IMAP missing addresses from To, cc fields when SSL is enabled

I am using a 3GS 4.0.2 with IMAP configured mail at aplus.net, for two different emails/domain names. I don't have any problem getting or receiving email, but I have found that on one of these accounts, setup with SSL for incoming mail, the sender email addresses are truncated. This happens with as little as 4 senders and up. It typically shows only the sender and 2 emails in the to field. On some occasions, my name doesn't even show up in the To field. It also always truncates to the first two cc'd.
The second account, setup as non-SSL doesn't have these issues. Both accounts are mapped to the same incoming mail server name (just different user id/password).
Once I've retrieved a message, changing it to non-SSL doesn't change the truncation issue at all.
Anyone else had this issue with SSL IMAP servers?

Thanks Tommy, but I had already tried the "Notes" setting on and off and neither seemed to make any difference.
I just tried to email a Voice Memo, another feature I use regularly, and it had the same problems as before however this time it wouldn't even send a message to the Outbox.
I decided to try a few differnent mail accounts I have, POP3, IMAP and HOTMAIL to see if any of them would work. Interestingly, when I created a new POP3 account and clicked "Save", during the verification process for this new POP3 account it produced an error with the IMAP account!
I thought I should just delete the newly created POP3 account as well as my normal IMAP account (this one noted in the first post above) and then I'd recreate the IMAP account. As I deleted the POP3 account, I heard the sound that is played when an email is sent, the phone then automatically switched to the Mail application and showed the Outbox with all of my previous attempts to send Notes and Voice Memos from the last couple of days. Which all sent successfully.
So even though I was able to send and receive emails during this time, it would seem the OS4.0 upgrade butchered something in the IMAP account settings, which caused both the Notes and Voice Memos to have issues.
It all seems to be working OK now, I just thought I would share this solution/work-around in case anyone else is having the same problems as I did.

  • Updated to iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 - stuff missing

I updated my husband's iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 just now, and a huge chunk of his photos are missing. I believe the last time this phone was synced with any library, it was his library on his old computer. So, of our two computers, neither would have been a good choice for updating, since neither could be considered the original one it was synced with. My question is this: when iTunes updates software, it backs up and restores first, so why were all of his photos not backed up and restored during this process? He had about 500-600 photos and now he only has 241. Also his playlists are gone, music was gone, a bunch of stuff is now gone. I had to put some of it back manually. Needless to say I am in a bunch of trouble for this - I have been bugging him for months to update his phone so we could iMessage each other. Now that I've done it, his phone is all F'd up.
Anything I can do to recover his photos? (Why did iTunes let them go to the ether????)
Also, why does Apple not have a chat support feature for simple questions that don't require charging us $29?? ggrrr...

Sorry to hear about this but this has happened to me as well but I am not sentimental about anything and everything I need is backed up.
I not sure if it is on my system at all but I did notice if I restore from a backup that it brings it to a known state (e.g. Photos of that state) even if I did not actively chose Photos to be backed up. However I believe how albums was incorporated that somehow it affected how the camera roll behaved during the upgrade (hence missing photos).
Hence to repeat here is a link to a similar issue:

I hope this is not the situation that you are in so good luck. I hope there is a better answer for you out here :(

  • Features missing from iOS 5 (3GS)

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPhone 3GS.
I am missing two features that I did not think were reported to be missing on the 3GS with the iOS update.
First - I am missing the option for a location based reminder. I have the option for a time-based reminder, but nothing for a location. Location services is on, but I do not have a listing under location services for the reminders app, to selectively toggle that. I am registered with iCloud as well. This seemed to affect it for other people (or so says google), but still does not give the option for location based reminders on my phone.
Second - I do not have a listing for Earthquake alerts in my notification center settings. I know this is only available to people in Japan and I DO live in Japan. This iPhone 3GS was purchased in Japan and runs on the Softbank wireless network. I DO have it set to English as a system language (with various Japanese keyboards enabled), and if that is affecting the ability to natively receive Earthquake notices, I am really disappointed in Apple. I DID try switching my device's language to Japanese, but still did not have a toggle for Earthquake notifications.
What gives? These are probably the two features I was looking forward to most, and I don't have them and I don't know why.

I don't have a 3GS so don't know if the reminders feature is missing or not. But on my iPhone 4S it was missing until I turned on iCloud syncing for reminders. There is another discussion thread on this topic you should check out: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16335763#16335763.

    Hey Nathan,
I know it can be a bit frustrating to try to get a version of an application that will work on an older iOS version. This article explains how to do it -

  • What feature of iPhone 3GS do you enjoy most so far?

Got my iPhone 3GS Friday and waited till Sunday to activate it. The activation process went smoothly, it took all of 5 minutes! Everything is working as expected. Thank you Apple.
Spotlight search is my favored new feature, the speed of everything is so much faster. what's you favored feature?

So far I love the video camera and have probably put ten videos up on YouTube and another five on my own site. It works VERY well. I find it easiest to edit as I film then connect the iPhone, fire up iPhoto and import the vids to my desktop where I open iMovie and add tiles and other editing, music, etc. The movies arrive in MOV format and I use VisualHub to put the completed video together and convert to high definition Flash and upload to YouTube. Works great and quite profession.
But WAIT! I LOVE voice dialing. Geez, Apple really did that feature well. No training needed. You just say the name and if it is in your contact list the nice female voice says "Calling Tom Jones..." That is cool and really nice when I am busy like riding my bike or my hands are busy.
Those are the two favorite features so far and I've only had the new 3GS for two days!

  • Why is the iTunes Store (iTunes Mobile) Icon missing from my iPhone 3GS?

I got an iPhone 3GS a couple of weeks ago and decided that see what the iTunes Store would be like on my phone. But I have looked everywhere, and I can't find the icon.
I looked on the Apple How To page and searched Google, but couldn't find anything on this. The Apple How To page did say that the iTunes Store is not available in some regions, but I'm in the US on AT&T, so I'm pretty sure that its supported here.
I do have the Apps Store Icon, and haven't noticed anything else missing.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

if you have all 11 pages filled in apps on the phone... it might have shoved off into the uncharted spaces...
try a restart... i find that if i'm using the dock at the bottom to move icons around i loose the built in icons from time to time... power down and back up restores them.

  • Contacts missing from Iphone 3GS after syncing

I synced my daughters iphone 3GS and then my iphone 3GS to the same itunes account on my pc. Most of my contacts were gone when I got done syncing but I had my daughters contacts.  How do I get my contacts back?  Ive synced my phone again to the same pc and it doesn't give me any options to fix my contacts.

I did set all my email contacts to be on the phone, and checked the iCloud. Re-synced the phone with itunes on my macbook. I have turned the phone off and left it turned off for 10 minutes and then turned it back on.
The contacts I am seeking are still missing.
One in particular I know had no email address associated with it.
I'm about ready to quit my iphone.

  • Will iTunes restore feature force me to go through the setup/activation process again on my iPhone 3GS?

Will iTunes restore feature force me to go through the setup/activation process again on my iPhone 3GS?
I don't have internet at current location so this would be a huge issue as obviously I wouldn't be able to get past the connect to wifi/itunes step.

I haven't tried because if it fails I have no phone, which would be even worst.
I'm still trying to figure out whos brilliant idea it was to only allow wifi or itunes when you pay for 3G on the phone lol you'd think there would be an option to use it
