Iphone 3gs frozen on power up

I need help to figure out how to get my 3gs (3.1.2) to fully power on from the apple icon screen. It suddenly lost the signal and re-started but wont power on. It has been showing the apple icon for over 2 hours now and I cannot power on or shut completely off. Please help because i'm afraid its gonna overheat.

Try these. Hopefully one method will work:
1. Hard reset/reboot: Press and hold both the home button and sleep/wake button until it restarts. Keep the buttons held until it reboots.
2. Restore: Restore through iTunes by attaching your iPhone to your computer via the USB cable, opening iTunes, selecting your iPhone in the left pane, then selecting the restore option in the right pane. Remember to "restore from the backup of" first, and then if the problem persists, then "set up as a new iphone."
3. Recovery: Force your iPhone into recovery mode and restore from there. To do this, turn it off (or leave it in the frozen state and try it from there). Then, press and hold the home button. Keeping it held, plug your iPhone into iTunes via the USB cable. Keep holding down the home button until the screen showing a USB cable and an iTunes icon appears. Then, iTunes will recognize your iPhone, and you can do a restore.
4. If none of the above has worked, then the only thing you can do is to take it into an Apple Store to get it replaced. If your iPhone is still under warranty they will replace it with no charge. You can also mail it in to Apple

Gosh! my iPhone 3GS failed to power on today after upgrading to the latest version firmware~ I've tried to reboot and gave it a hard reset (Home Button+Sleep Button), but it's not working... I totally can't swith it on! Plug it into PC and also charger, still nothing happen after 30 mins... Anyone has this issue? I felt that iPhone 3GS is not running iOS 4 smoothly~ cause my calls drop often, usually 5 mins during a call... I saw many people are complaining about this drop call issue too~ Wonder when can Apple fix this~ Moreover! MR. Jobs took a medication leave today!!! How're we gonna expect a bug fix??

DFU Mode
Step 1: Launch iTunes.
Step 2: Plug your iPhone in your computer via the USB cable.
Step 3: Turn off your phone.
Step 4: Hold the Power and Home button together for exactly 10 seconds.
Step 5: After 10 seconds, release the Power button and keep holding the home button until iTunes tells you it has detected your iPhone.
Just as an FYI Steve Jobs does not actually do the "bug fixes" so I think you may be ok... there are a couple people still working at Apple.

If it will not turn on - you have zero chance of getting anything off the phone.

IPhone 3gs frozen - slide to unlock frozen - phone dropped - pad lock without circle

Dropped iPhone 3gs (ios 3.4.4 or previous version - can't remember which one). Slide to unlock is frozen. If I press home button twice then reverse, play and fast forward symbols show up on center of screen (but nothing happens when I press on them). There is a plain pad lock symbol (no circle) on the top center of the screen. Won't do anyting else. Any ideas? Also, the phone will ring...I just can't unlock the phone to answer. Then the screen shows that I missed a call with the phone number displayed.

IPhone 3GS frozen/rebooting after iOS 5 update.

I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 last night. All seemed well until I noticed the restore was complete. The iPhone was frozen on the Home Screen. The flash of white the runs beneath the slide to unlock is frozen at different intervals everytime the phone reboots itself. I have tried restoring the phone multiple time. I am unable to perform a hard reset because the phone's sleep button is nonfunctional. When the phone decides to reboot itself, about every two minutes, I notice that for a split second it flashes to a gray screen with an iPhone in darker gray. There are words all over the screen but I am unable to read any of it before te phone resets. I think I see a "Peparing to Install" title on the screen, but that is a guess. Any ideas from anyone? I'm really at a loss of what to do.

An update on my problem above. I too restored my software but all it got me was losing all of my ZombieLife progress, LOL.
It seems to me that my phone freezes/reboots when it is trying to grab a signal for an update. It has happened to me several times on the initial visit to a website on Safari and also on Nike GPS. I can still see the page I was on in the background a bit but there is no recovering the phone. I have to then hold down the lock button to restart it and sometimes that will not work unless it is on a charger.
Today my battery went from around 70% to the phone saying it needed to be charged in the span of a few minutes. When I did get it on the charger in my car it went back to 66% after rebooting.
I don't know if it means much but I have AppToolKit Lite and in the System Monitor it shows you memory usage. At the moment out of 254.23MB I have 120M Active and the only I am running is the app. Wired is at 40M, Inactive is at 32.20M and Free is at 63.90. This is after I double-clicked the home key and killed all other apps. When there are apps active the Free memory is next to nothing. Not sure if this is a cause but I hope there is a solution soon with 5.01!

Je précise bien qu'à l'étape 3, il faudra inscrire VOTRE numéro de centre SMS. J'ai noté le mien qui correspond à Sunrise +41765980000 mais il n'est pas identique pour tous les opérateurs.
"3. Taper ensuite avec le clavier *5005*7672*+41765980000(ou votre numéro de SMS Center)# puis appel. Là, un message va s'afficher sur l'écran".

Iphone 3gs frozen but cant restore as it has a passcode

We have iPhone 3gs which has frozen. Itunes comes up with message that it cant be restored as the phone is locked with a passcode. Can somebody please tell me how we can restore?

Restore it using the same computer you last synced with. If that computer is not available, you will have to put it into DFU mode and set it up as a new device.

today 25th feb @ approx 10pm (melbourne time)
itunes goes "hey u gotta update ur iphone" so i do
and then it takes ages and ages, and then its like backing up iphone, and then it goes bump bump error, some ****, and then i go mmkay, and then the phone has frozen on this image the same thing the guy above has said!

IPhone 3GS frozen with Alarm going off!

This has happened a couple of times now...
I use my phone as an alarm clock. When I hear the alarm go off I reach for the phone and us the slide to stop the alarm.
A couple of times I've done this the screen has simply not responded, frozen, leaving me trying to stop it from waking the rest of the house up.
The only way I was able to stop it was by holding down the power and home buttons until it eventually switched off.
Anyone got any ideas what might cause this?

earlier today, when I plugged my phone in to charge, it started with the usual symbol for charging, from a flat battery, then after having to step away for a short while, I pressed the on button and a white screen would appear, no icons etc.
I tried to do a restore, but with ios4 now out it insisted on that being installed, and it failed, there was an error message with a code, but it came and went to quickly, and now it won't power on at all.
Any ideas.

Good news, after searching the support section, and finding these http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_2 instructions about restarting, that got it back to the normal screen.
I wasn't planning to update the software straight away, but since I've got it now...

For how long does the logo remain static..? If it's for up to 3-4 minutes then I'd say it's okay (albeit it is a long time) but if it's 5-10 minutes or more then okay there's a fault of some kind I guess.
I went through a phase where my 3GS would restart and seemingly get stuck at the Apple logo, for what seemed forever. Killing the phone and forcing it to restart would see it restart a lot quicker. Odd though that if I'd left it alone then after 3-4 mins it would start on its own.

Last night I was trying to download the new Operating System for the Iphone and in the middle of the process the update froze and so did my phone. Now i can't turn off or reset my phone and my computer doesn't recognize it when i connect. If this has happened to anyone else who has a solution please let me know. Thanks

Same thing happened to me.
-Tried to update iPhone to 4.0, downloaded fine and started to update. Near the end it failed.
-iTunes told me I had to restore my iPhone to default settings, so I clicked the "Restore" button, it started working, installing firmware, etc... and failed.
-Now whenever I plug iPhone in, iTunes sees "iPhone" under devices but I cannot do anything with it. The right side of the screen that normally shows sync button, update button, etc etc etc all that, is completely blank.
-The iPhone itself does not work anymore. All it shows is the iTunes logo on the screen with a USB cable.

IPhone 3GS will not power on.

When pressing the Hold Button the apple symbol comes on for about 30seconds then turns off. this happens with or without the usb/power cable plugged in. Nothing else appears on the screen. I ahve attempted to do teh reset fuction (Hold and home buttons together, but nothing happens.) Connecting to computer the apple symbol appears for approx 30 seconds again and then off. The computer does not recongnise any usb connection. iTunes does not see the phone.
Any suggestions please.
I have left this on charge for over an hour now still nothing. I do not get the battery or connect charger symbol.

Try this... You will not lose any Data...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...

If that does not work... try letting the battery fully drain.
Then Charge for an Hour and try the Reset again.
