Iphone 3gs gone completely useless after upgrading to IOS 4

After going through all the hassle of upgrading it, i enjoyed about 3 4 minutes of multitasking before i experienced my first reboot, then it started to reboot constantly when i run apps or just surf the web, however if i leave it idle it is fine.
Later on i discovered that it reboots everytime my call hits the 3 4 minutes mark, EVERYTIME! And after 2 days of usage, i found out it reboots while i charge it as well, both charging through the computer or normally.
Now it is just sitting there connected to the charger with the apple logo going on and off repeatedly, cant do anything about it.
RIP Iphone 3gs

the thing is the constant rebooting used up the last bit of power and i cant turn it on anymore. If i connect the iphone with the usb charger it just keeps booting till the apple logo and reboots.

  • IPhone 3GS does not activate after upgrade to iOS 5.1

I never had any issues upgrading the iphone 3GS in the past. Last January I got my iphone upgrade to iPhone 4S, which made my 3GS redundant, so I had asked Vodafone uk to get it unlocked for me so that I can use it with other networks. Vodafone sent the information to apple and got the iphone unlocked for me. The OS was 4.1 then. A few days ago I came to India on my business trip for 4 weeks and inserted an indian SIM and it worked fine. but just yesterday I tried to upgrade it to iOS 5.1 through itunes and it got stuck in recovery mode then I tried to restore it and found that it has indeed loaded the iOS 5.1 as it asked me questions relating to language and country and tried to access wifi for iCloud. But it has got stuck just there and says no SIM inserted.
    Please help .....

This indicates that the phone was carrier locked and had been 'hacked' to unlock it. Updating the phone has re-locked it to the original carrier.
ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Not all do so. Contact the carrier and find out what their policy is.
If it's locked to AT&T, you may as well sell it and buy a new phone. AT&T will not unlock iPhones for any reason.

  • Iphone file browser stopped working after upgraded to IOS 5

    Hi,
I have an iphone 3gs which I have recently upgraded to IOS 5. But to my horror after I have done that I can no longer browser my iphone's internal storage. Iphone connected to PC via USB, the file explorer no longer available. It can still sync with itune fine but there is noway I can access the storage locater in the phone via file explorer like I used to. Mind you I still have 3GB of space there.
Is that a bug? Or I stuffed up the upgrade some where?
    Anyone else had this experience?
    Alex

    I know whats wrong now...
My phone had been emptied after I last restored it, after I took a picture and insert the phone back to the PC. The file browser shows up again...
That means if there is nothing in the phone, the file browser wouldn't be too bother to even show up. Weird one...

  • My iPhone 4 can not reboot after upgrading to iOS 6; keeps trying and cannot shut off either.

My iPhone 4 can not reboot after upgrading to iOS 6; keeps trying and cannot shut off either.

I FINALLY got it to work on BOTH iPhone 4 and iPpad 3.  Here is what I had to do:
Had to DELETE all e-mail accounts including icloud.
Did a hard reset (hold down button on top right corner and round button on bottom center)
Then once it came back on, the iPhone had ALL of the accounts still on it and it was receivng e-mail.
The iPad receive e-mail until I did the steps above 5 times.  Plus, I had to add back all of the e-mail accounts vs. on the iPhone 4 they were there when my phone came on.
Now I am receiving e-mail on both devices normally.
No clue why this happened, but Apple needs to find a fix ASAP.

  • IPhone Home Button not working after upgrade to ios 5.1.1

    Hey everyone,
    I'm pretty sure this is a software failure due to the symtoms the iPhone is showing;
0 - the home button does not work at all when the phone is turned on and running ios 5.1.1, well it used to work okay when i had ios 5.0.1, I upgraded to 5.1.0 and started working randomly, upgraded to 5.1.1 to see if it was fixed with no luck at all.
1 - When locked the screen does sometime light up, like when you press the home button and don't slide the unlock button. but it does not exit apps anytime, I mean it doesn't act like it's pressing the home button randomly but only when the phone is locked.
2- The button does work perfectly when iOS is not running: I can get in and get out of recovery and dfu mode at will, that wouldn't be possible if the button were broke.
3- what else? Oh yea, not really a symtom: Tried the 'home button calibration' several times.
4 - It's not filthy, since I really cleaned it thoroughly with a powerful tiny nozed air blower I got and gave a rubbing alcohol treatment too.
5 - when I shut the phone down it instantly turns back on, I can interrupt the turning on for turning the phone into dfu mode (i'm sure It's in DFU mode because the tinyumbrella log monitor tells me)
I'm now using the 'soft' home button that goes in the accesibility options, but hey, I didn't pay a ton of money for a phone that the same Apple is gonna break down.
It's out of warranty and I don't have apple stores where I live.
I'd downgrade to 5.0.1 in a snap if I could but I'm not into jailbreaking, so the shsh blob thingie is not a possibility.
Any apple dev around that can give me a workaround?
    thanks a lot in advance

I had the same problem with Home button not responding after upgrading from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPhone4.   I solved it but not sure exactly what fixed it.   Here is what I did.
    1.  Took it local Apple store Genius appointment.   They used a special tool and took some lint out of the connector opening.   The Home button started working.   They said even though the phone was out of warranty, I could buy a new replacement one without a contract for $150.
    2.   The Home button stopped working when I got home.   I got some compressed air in a can and blew the air through the connector to try and clean out more dust.   I now keep the phone with the connector opening facing down in my pocket.   I also struck the phone downward on my hand or other soft surface to force as much dust out as possible.
    3.  The Home button still was intermittent.  I then tried to do a hard reset by holding the power on key and the Home button simultaneously for about 10 seconds.  This doesn't work if the Home button doesn't respond.
    4.  I connected the iphone to Itunes via the USB to sync the phone.  While connected, I did a Hard Reset by Holding the Power button and Home button simultaneously.  I noticed the Home button responded better when connected to ITUNES via the USB.
    5.  I did a backup of the iphone4 by highlighting the iphone 4 while connected to ITunes and right mouse click and selecting BACKUP.    I was prepared to reset my phone4 in iTUNES and restore it from the backup.
The phone worked consistently before I had to do this.
    6.  As a last resort which I didn't need to do, I was going to copy all my settings for the iphone by selecting the phone in iTUNES and looking at all the sync settings.   I would then have restored the iphone to original factory settings and then sync the phone using the copied settings.  This would have made sure that the backup didn't include the bug.
Fortunately, I didn't have to do step 5 and 6.   Things started working after Step 4.  So I don't really know if it was the iOS 5.1.1 upgrade or pure coincidence that the Home button stopped working immediately after the upgrade.

  • IPhone 4S wont sync music after upgrading to iOS 7 on windows 7

After upgrading to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S, I lost all my music.
When I try and sync (USB) with iTunes 11.1 (on Windows 7)
it hangs at the last step "waiting for changes to be applied" (step 5 of 5)
i am looking for weeks for a solution to this problem and i saw meny pepole suffer from it
but still i cannot find a way to fix it
    help me please

You got it downloaded and I assume you mean it is installed as well.  It was buggy for me.
I had to close and restarted iTunes before I could use it properly.
Then, I had to unplug and replug in my phone before it recognises it.
Just had to try everything.  As final choice, update over the air.  I try to avoid it as it tends to have more problems than a tethered update.

  • Hi, I have an iphone 3GS from HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out! When I checked my backup file in Outlook Express it was also wiped out!!! What can I do now?

Hi, I have an iphone 3GS purchased in HK. After upgrading to 4.3.3 from 4.3.2 as prompted by itunes on May 10, 2011 my entire contact in my iphone was wiped out. When I checked my backed up file in Outlook Express, it was also wiped out during the synchronization. I tried to restore from backup on iTunes but still, the contact was not there anymore. I have contacted your HK Apple Hotline and talked to a technical support called TIMMY LO, he said there is nothing to do with them and he refused to provide any support to recover my contact, he even said I should try to pay extra money to 3rd party supplier and see what they can do to my iphone, despite the fact that this could be caused by the pre-mature release of 4.3.3 when a bug still hasn't been fixed. I am very disappointed at Apple's service, especially considering that I have been a loyal customer of iphone / ipod touch in the past few years. I need an official reply from Apple on this! How can Apple be so irresponsible to their own firmware failure??

  • Iphone 3gs problem with network after upgrading to 5.1.1

    Hi...
I have Iphone 3gs and requested official unlock from my provider. They said they did it and all I have to do is connect it with iTunes.
I had ios 3.x and upgraded to 5.1.1 through iTunes.
But now after upgrade, my phone is not unlocked and niether works with original card.
3G network is one second ok, after one second drops to 1 line, and after that I got No network.
I managed to make call, but that call only last for 1 second.

I wouldn't assume that.  Don't know anyone who changed carriers without canceling the original.  The intermittent connections he describes are typical of SIM card issues.
The point is that your statement that "updating is not enough" is incorrect.  When he "updated" to iOS 5, a full restore was already done. If there were errors during that process, restoring again might help, but its not necessary to restore.

  • IPhone 4 Camera Autofocus Delay after Upgrade to iOS 5

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and now I noticed the camera auto focus is severly delayed, and constantly searching for focus.
I compared it side by side with my son's iPhone 4 which I did not update to iOS 5 and there is a distinct difference in speed both in picture taking and video when it comes to focusing.
    Anybody else seeing this?
Apple, can you please fix this, as it is now impossible to take a quick pict of my kids due to the constant focusing attempts.

I just can;t beieve this, I would never have bought the phone if I knew updating it would make it unuseable for any
thing other then complete novice use. I have done everything to make this work since the upgrade to IOS5 made the "bottom line" quality rubbish. Has anyone zoomed into the image and looked at the quality? If not check it out and you will see it is unuseable.
I'm sick, I use the phone exclusivly for photographic applications and I've spent a fortune on specific photo apps and hardware, I'm a Beta tester for GoPano (360 video) and I wish I had never invested in the iPhone. If Apple can't get a basic thing like focus on the camera right after an upgrade then I don't want the phone..it's useless to me.
Can anyone please let me know how I can get a refund on the phone, or who I talk to to cease ownership, as far as I'm concerned the phone dosen't work to it's specifications.
Please reply as I feel like a fool for buying the iPhone 4. Can anyone tell me how to revert my phone to IOS4? It worked then, not fantastic, but it worked, Seems to me when you upgrade the op system that its ireversable.
    HELP PLEASE!

  • My iphone 6 stopped receiving calls after upgrading to ios 8.2

I have a new iPhone 6, 64 GB. I tried upgrading it 2 days ago to iOS 8.2.
The first time it froze for a long time and when it started, everything seemed
to be ok until I opened my messages, the screen froze then my messages opened a
blank page, then went opened a new message window, and I couldn't do anything
after, except close the messages. then I found out that my phone does not ring
when someone is trying to call me, so I tried calling my phone from a land line
and it shows it is ringing, but my iPhone 6 is not and does not show any
activity. it like its ringing somewhere else. I tried restoring it, and again
it did the same thing, the minute I open my messages. its like it triggers a
malfunction that crashes the hand set.
Has anyone experienced this, and is there a solution other than waiting for
the next update that will hopefully fix this problem?

    Hello RayGas,
It may help to force close all apps and reset your iPhone.
Force an app to close in iOS
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5137
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1430
If you're still not seeing any indication of incoming calls and Messages isnot functioning as expected, the next step would be to reinstall iOS on your device by placing it in Recovery Mode, then choosing Update in iTunes.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on

    Cheers,

  • Camera lock screen iPhone 5 not working properly after upgrade to iOS 8

After I installed iOS 8 on the iPhones 5 of my and my wife's the camera on the lock screen isn't working properly anymore. When I swipe up, the camera starts but the screen turns black within less then a second.
On the iPad 2 and the iPad Air (both upgraded to iOS 8) I don't have this problem. It seems to be iPhone 5 specific.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Having the same problem.  I'm on an iPhone 5 and I have updated to 8.0.2.  When I go to apps directly from the lock screen (timer, calculator, camera) it opens up then immediately turns into a black screen.  It appears that removing my passcode fixes this bug, but I can't have an unsecured phone.  Please help Apple!
