Iphone 3gs got very hot and wont charge

I have had my iphone 3gs for about a year and a half.  last night I left it on a 3rd party wall charger while I slept, which I bought a week ago and have been using since.  I woke up 4 hours later to find my phone was so hot i couldn't hold it.  No joke it was as hot as my wood burner gets when its been running all day.  It also had no charge.
Now my screen shows it needs plugged into a charger, and when I plug it into a charger it shows it is plugged in with a dead battery (red empty battery and a lighting bolt). after about a minute the apple icon comes on the screen and sits there for about 5-10 minutes before it turns back off, and shows the red empty battery with the lightning bolt.  If i leave it plugged in it just keeps repeating this cycle.
I have used a docking station to try and charge, as well as 3 different usb cables plugged into my computer.  I have reset the phone repeatedly today for hours with the power button and home button held in for 10 seconds.  I have even put the phone in DFU mode and restored to factory settings with itunes.  While plugged into the computer, itunes didnt even recognize my phone until i put it in DFU mode, then itunes popped up and restored. when it rebooted after restore it just continued with the cycle of turning on and off, showing its plugged in with a dead battery.
I cant go to an apple store with a warranty because I have broken this phones screen multiple times and taken it apart to successfully fix it.  Last time I replaced a screen was a few months ago so I know that me disassembling the phone is not relevant to todays problem.
Has anyone else had this problem, or any suggestions to get my phone to charge and turn on completely?

Yes, I had this problem. I even phoned apply up & they never knew what it was. Or a solution, but if it's the same problem as I had, then I have a simple, but annoying solution. What happens is the iPhone overheats (normally whencharging and being used, so it stops charging to stop itself from melting. To make thephone charge again try holding it under a fan to cool it. Like I said it worked for me :)

Try some of these to save battery time:
Settings>Notifications>[Turn off any notifications you don't need]
Settings>General>Software Update (Make sure you're up to date)
Settings>Brightness & Wallpaper> Auto-Brightness on (And that your brightness is not to the max)
    Settings>Privacy>Location Services>Turn off/Stop apps from using it
    Settings>Bluetooth>Off
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Manually
Settings>Wi-Fi> Off (When you don't need internet when you're out and about)
    To stop overheating, note these:
    Operating Temperatures: 0° to 35° C (32° to 95° F)
    Non-Operating Temperatures: -20° to 45° C (-4° to 113° F)

My iphone 3gs is totally dead and not charging if I will connect to power connector too
It shows only the battery charging sign when I will coonect to power connector and press menu button. But if I will put it for whole day or night too , It is not charging.
Please tell me what I can do.
    I am so frustate.
    Please help me.
    Thanks

Are you currently plugging it into a computer? If so, try plugging it into a USB power adapter. It's possible that you're trying to charge it from a low-power USB port, and that's not enough to sustain your phone and get it charging.
If you're still unable to get it to charge, schedule a visit with your local genius bar at apple.com/retail

  • Mag'Safe' wire got very hot, melted, stopped charging MacBook

OK, bad news for me because my magsafe melted!
It started to get hotter and hotter each day until little holes appeared and finally it refused to charge and there was a hole in the wiring.
I emailed apple using a email i got from them and they told me to go to my local apple store. That i did, and came out with no magsafe as they said that they would get charged instead of apple getting charged. I emailed apple again and i have had no reply yet, I don't intend on phoning them or else i would have to pay £35!
I also tried PCWorld as that is where i got the macbook from and they said to phone partsmasters.co.uk.
I can assure you that nothing has been spilled on it and i have not cut the wire or brought sharp objects to it in any shape or form, and if you doubt that then ask yourslef why would i do such a thing when Apple products cost so much?
So, anyway to contact appl ewithout paying £35 over the phone? esp. since i got turned down at my apple dealer (Western Computers)
Anyway, here are some pictures, just follow the link. (Put in slideshow for easy viewing)

Wow. Sounds rough. Hope you get it all sorted out.
I think placing the charger so close to the processor is a pretty bad design choice and likely part of the cause. If you're using the Macbook under high CPU stress, it might be wise to invest in some kind of cooling device (passive or active) to help out. Of course, I have no way of knowing if that's the cause, but it seems logical that the plug being so close to the CPU could contribute to overheating (though not necessarily cause it).
A personal rant: there's no way a person could tell from the ImageShack photos that it melted on its own. Prof, that's just silly to suggest that you can. You can hardly make out the wires in the shots because it's so dark. I'm certainly not saying it's deliberate, but please don't look at some under-exposed pictures and say you can see it was the Magsafe's fault. This may be why the store is giving him the run-around. They may be looking at it and seeing something we can't and then picking up the "accidental damage" line. Some better shots (in sharp focus with good lighting) would help.

  • I left my ipad on charge all night and when i took it off it was very hot and wont turn on how do i fix it?

please help me and tell me how to fix myipad

Have you tried a reboot - hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignoring the red slider if that appears?
If that does not work, take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check to see if the battery is damaged.

  • My iphone battery has ran out and wont charge all i see is the red battery icon , what shall i do?

my iPhone 4 was working fine then the battery died as it normally would and now iv tried to charge it and it will not charge all it shows on the screen is the red battery icon i left the phone to charge so it can turn on by its self for about 30-1 hr but still didn't come on, then i thought the problem was probably the charger so i switched chargers to a much newer one but still no sign of it coming on, what should i do?

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears (10-15 seconds).

  • My 3GS gets very hot and battery drains from 100% to 0% in less than few hours

The problem is really tricky. I kept tracking the problem, the problem persists only in the following case, if cellular data is on with no dataplan registered. If dataplan is activated the problem disappears

I forgot to add, I closed notification center, all push and pull activities and ping.

  • My ipad fells very hot and wont trun on

    my ipad is hot

If a reset doesn't work, it's time to make an appointment with Apple.

  • My refurbished iPad 3 charged for first time it and charger got very hot is that normal

just replaced my refurbished iPad 3 with another.  Tried to charge it for first time.  Noticed it got very hot and so did charger.  I don't recall my other iPad doing this  is this a defect in the ipad?

    Define "hot".
If fully drained both the battery (that essentially fills up most of the body of the device) and the charger will get quite warm, though not unbearable. Time to charge will vary according to device: my iPad 4 takes about 6 hours if almost flat, but takes about 40 min if at 75%.
Be sure to use ONLY its original charger OR chargers that are rated for iPads. They draw twice the current as phones and will cause phone chargers to get much warmer than usual.

  • Iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge, iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge

Since returning from far east my iphone 5 is now getting very hot and losing charge within half a day at maximum

It is normal for the phone to be warm when the device is being used, or charged.  If it is uncomfortably so, you should probably visit an Apple Retail store and have them take a look, or call AppleCare if you are still under warranty.  They can run a diagnostic to see if there is a problem (But the apple retail store can likely do more as they can visually inspect the device in addition to the diagnostic test).
