IPhone 3GS iOS 4.2 - iTunes Update 10.2 killed Apple Mobile Device USB Driv
I have Windows 7 64-bit professional. This morning I received notice that I needed to update my iTunes software to current version. When I ran the update, the USB connection no longer would recognize the phone.
Multiple attempts to repair, even reinstall iTunes, ALL Apple software per Apple Support articles has failed. I cannot sync my phone to the computer to update the sofware. Even after a clean install with virus software turned off, and manual attempt to update the driver, I still see the yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager for Windows.
There appears to be an issue with the update released last night and Windows 7 64-bit systems. My iPhone and iTunes were working fine until then, sync everything worked good.
Anyone have any suggestions. I understand from a search on the Internet that this is a common problem and that Apple does not have the ability to separately install a current Windows USB Driver that actually works if you have this problems.
Here is what worked for me on a Windows Vista System. I had ssue with both 10.2.1 and later 10.2.2 and have been on this site daily since release of 10.2. Finally I found something that worked for me. I am using iPhone 3G Version 4.2.1 seems Apple stops there for me so hopefully I won't need to update iTunes again.
Completely uninstall the current version of Itunes including Apple Mobile Device Support, You will find it after going to Computer, Make sure you delete both of them.
Next install the latest version of itunes from the apple website. Make sure to download the correct one as there is both the 32 bit and 64 available.
Now the problem with AMDS might still persisit as it did for me. So you want to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (again), you will find that after going to computer and uninstall programs. Note: At this point I found 10.2.2 at least gave me impression AMDS was at least now running however iTunes crawled when opening, froze for minutes when I connected iPhone and failed to see any device connected when it was again running. So do not stop as I did the problem may still be AMDS and only AMDS.
Next install itunes 10.0.1 http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php , Just scroll down until you see 10.0.1
Save it to your desktop or somewhere visible.
Next install UniExtract
http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract
After the installation is complete go to where you save your itunes file, right click and click on uniextract
files.
Press Ok and make sure its set to your desktop.
On the next screen when prompted to choose an extract method, choose "Not an Installshield
installer".
Next open the folder you extracted and go to Apple Mobile Device Support and install it. Once complete
Restart your computer and it should work.
Good Luck! It only took me 21 days to find something here that worked. Now I am hoping it can help someone else. If not, well there is always tomorrow and someone may find another solution it seems 10.2 is not the best for all.

After I updates ITunes to the latest version (12), ITunes wont find my iphone and Ipad anymore, after searching I found that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed anymore, on the support website of Apple it doesnt explain how to solve this,.
I use Windows 8.1 and so now also ITunes 12, both my Iphone 4S and Ipad Air have the latest IOS version.
I hope anybody can tell me how to solve this that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is back, thank youFound a possible solution for me.
While the phone was plugged into my computer and iTunes is CLOSED.
1. I went to Services in Windows.
2. I selected Apple Mobile Device and right clicked and selected "Stop".
3. Then I right-clicked again and selected "Start".
4. Then I went to Device Manager and right clicked my iPhone with the yellow alert icon and selected "Uninstall". You will get a warning about uninstalling the device. Click OK.
5. At the top of Device Manager I clicked the Action menu and selected "Scan for Hardware Changes".
This re-installed the iPhone and everything started working again. -
IPhone 6, iOS 8 - Apple Mobile Device USB Driver wont install
Ive just purchased an iPhone 6 from the Apple store. Of course because its the latest model its running the latest iOS (iOS 8.0).
I tried connecting it to my computer with the included USB lightening cable. My computer attempted to install the driver and then the error message appeared "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver install was not successful".
I have tried another USB port. I also tried a solution from a previous similar topic on the Apple discussion threads that suggested uninstalling iTunes & the 3 Apple software additions: Apple Application Support, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support.
Once the above software was uninstalled i connected my iPhone6 via USB to my computer and device manager read it fine. I assumed my issue was resolved so i continued to reinstall iTunes once again. Once all complete i connected once more and the original error reoccurred.
Is this an issue with just iPhone6 models, iOS8 users or is there an underlying problem?OK. I found my answer, thanks to another posting.
Uninstall iTunes
Uninstall Apple Software Update
Uninstall Mobile Device Service
Uninstall Bonjour
Uninstall Application Support....all in this order.
Clear everything from Trash.
Restart PC
Install latest version of iTunes.
It worked! -
ITunes doesn't recognize iPhone and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is missing
Hi. iTunes does not recognize my iPhone when I connect it to my PC via USB. I found iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and went through the listed steps to diagnose the problem. The problem seems to be the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It is not listed in Device Manager and it does not seem to be installed on my PC. I followed directions for "If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed" and I was not able to find anything. In that case there are no further steps that you can take listed on iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and other software components (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923) three times but each time Apple Mobile Device USB Drive was missing. If anyone can advise me I would greatly appreciate it.

I updated to iTunes 10.7 and now iTunes does not see my iPod touch. After the update I got a message that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver could not be installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 3 times, but still cannot fix the problem. I have followed the suggested fixes in Apple Support. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Try the actions here for that driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would first do this:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7 -
I recently purchased my iPod touch with no issues. After updating to iOS 8.1.1 I found that my iPod would no longer appear in the latest version of iTunes and when I searched for Apple Mobile Device usb driver in the device manager, it was nowhere to be found. I've already uninstalled and re-installed ALL components of iTunes and read every single help article. I've tried everything. What went wrong?

Unable to install Itunes 10.1 or 10.1.1 -Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
Unable to install Itunes 10.1 or 10.1.1 and have it sucesfully install the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It keeps coming up with an error that the driver is unsigned or disappears completely from device manager.
I have tried full uninstall including cleaning registry keys and file system. If I uninstall and re-install 9.2.1 usb driver works perfectly and I have no issues synching with phone or seeing the phone in Itunes.
I have tried repair installs, updating the drivers by pointing to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
I have tried removing all USB devices and having them reinstall from Windows after a reboot. Nothing seems to work.
I just got a new IPAD and cannot use it because I cannot install 10.1 at least to have it connect. It came with IOS 4.2.1 on it.I also encountered the same problem.
and yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 10.1.1 bla bla blahhh....
Same issue!!! itunes cannot open cuz the mobile device support not started etc..
but when reinstalled prior itunes version 9.2 its gone
and issue fixed.
i can sync my 3G.
but not my 4G. it says you need to upgrade to 10.1 or above
spending the whole night to fix the problem which never occured b4
i finally find out one thing.
pl keep in mind im not a computer exprt
i tried this and it worked, i don know what fixed it, bt it works
try this at your own risk. some comp genius will tell us weather this way is right or not.
ok. lets start...
in your desktop make a new folder. name it Kmh_\CoreFP
try uninstalling the newer version 10.1
only the itunes not other mobile div suprt, application suprt etc.
dont mind the following order:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
and reinstall itunes 9.2
go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
you wil find a folder named "CoreFP"
copy it and paste to Kmh_\CoreFP
uninstall itunes 9.2
and reinstall itunes 10.1 again
go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
you wil find folder named "CoreFP"
find the difference in properties comparing the one u stored in Kmh_\CoreFP
ok delete it and replace it with the one we stored stored in Kmh_\CoreFP
restart the computer and start itunes now
what happens?
best of luck.
-Kmhm63
reinstall the newer version 10.1
I would suggest that you revert back to prior working version until Apple comes out with an update that fixes what 10.1.1 broke. -

iphone 4s stopped in middle of update (via wireless). apple logo and usb picture appeared on phone. When i plugged in to computer, indidcated I would have to restore. in the middle of restoring, i got a "unknown Error" (1) code and the apple id and usb picture are frozen on screen. Anyonw know what to do?
Hello Maxayla,
It sounds like you are getting error code 1 when you were attempting a restore. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article which mentions that error code:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#1
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
