IPhone 3Gs / iOS4 : Shuts Down Abruptly

I am facing this issue since the update to iOS4. I have tried setting it up as a new phone... still my phone shuts down or sometimes reboots without warning, during the calls, while browsing on EDGE or Wifi or even while kept on my desk or pocket...
I have reset hard reset, restore, setup as new everything... is it a hardware issue? how do i get a replacement in India?

sorry, I have posted it somewhere else, but maybe it could help you:
Do a hard reset and a new start in this way (try that, you can not loose anything, only win a bit):
In normal open mode, press home and shutdown-Buttons for minimum 10 seconds,
after the screen goes black (hold them for >10 sec !), release the shutdown-button on top and still hold pressed the home-button (O) for a minimum of 10 seconds...
Some bugs are gone hopefully after that...
Some reported that you do to make it 2 times...

  • Iphone 3gs keep shutting down apps

Why does my iphone 3gs keep shutting down apps when I'm in the middle of using them?  The battery is holding a charge and iTunes says my software is up-to-date, so I don't understand why this is happening!  It is really frustrating when I'm trying to order something online and Safari keeps shutting down!
Thanks to anyone who can help me!

    Hi Rebecca,
I have looked on google for a fix to the same issue.
Apple has been aware of this issue dating back past 2008 but they have not released a fix.
Apparently the only way to fix it is to "do it yourself" everytime, by resetting your iphone to factory settings. And reinstalling your applications again.
I just brought an iPhone 4 in New Zealand, and I have only 9 applications on my phone. So it can't be an issue of 'too many' apps.
Sorry this doesn't help. The balls in Apples hands here.

  • If your iphone 3gs just shuts down when theres something wrong with your hardware,is there any possible way to get all your pictures back?

if your iphone 3gs just shuts down when something went wrong with your hardware is there any possible way to get all pictures or other important stuff onto itunes?

What happened to the phone. Did it just go black? Did you try to plug it into Itunes and see if it can be seen or throw it on the charger. You can still try the reset procedure listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 and see if the phone turns back on.
The only way to get things back is to have backed them up ahead of time.

  • Help my iPhone 3GS randomly shuts down, what is wrong?, Help my iPhone 3GS randomly shuts down, what is wrong?

My iPhone 3GS randomly shuts down for no reason, and apparently I am not the only person having a problem with this. This happens regardless of how much battery life my phone shows, or whichever application I am using. IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS!!!!!!! I understand that cell phones are not built to last forever, but my phone is in to good of a condition to go out and purchase a new one.

Before you get your knickers all in a twist, try the basic troubleshooting steps Apple recommends:
Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you have been through ALL of the troubleshooting steps and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for investigation.

  • TS2634 iPhone 3GS keeps shutting down

iPhone 3GS keeps shutting down apps unexpectantly - restarting or restoring doesn't address the issue - anyone know how can I fix this problem?

Basic troubleshooting steps outline in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.  Try each of these in succession until your problem is solved.  If your problem does NOT get solved, you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • Iphone 3GS keeps shutting down.

I know there are lots of topics in here about this, but I just wanted to explain my own situation and see if it's any different.
As of late my Iphone 3Gs has been shutting down. I will be using the phone as normal, and it will have a decent amount of battery life left, but it was just crash. I'll be in an app, playing a game/chatting or safari and the phone will suddenly return to the home screen. The little battery will go red and show 0% (when my battery life was 80% just seconds ago) and then shut down.
I will have to turn it back on normally and everything will be fine again and my battery life will return to what it was previously.
This used to happen just once or twice a day but now it is happening frequently and it's really starting to frustrate me. I thought maybe it was my phone overheating because I had too many applications open and so I now make sure to keep all of my applications closed but the problem is STILL happening.
I have 4.2.1 software and I am always making sure to keep it updated.
I haven't dropped it or gotten it wet or anything.
I am going to do a reset and see if that fixes the problem, but does anyone have any other suggestions or are you experiencing the same problems?
It frustrates me that I pay all this money for a phone that is now barely serving it's purpose. I shouldn't have to worry that it's going to shut down on me in the middle of a call or while I am doing something important.
    Help!

    4.2.1 is bad.
I have an iPhone 4; I just upgraded to 4.2.1, then my phone started doing the same thing. I noticed first with the iPod app, it would play a couple min then go to the home screen. Then Pandora, play a couple min then go to homescreen; I had it on a dock at work and it would stop, then a couple min later turn on and start playing the iPod song from the beginning, same cycle over and over. Next with texts and Safari. I don't make a lot of calls, but went to get a # from my contacts and the phone app would not open.
I tried soft reboot, hard reboot, resetting the stuff in settings. The people at the AT&T store said they hadn't seen it yet. They put me on the phone with Apple; I guess I had way too many 'multitasking apps' open. I shut them all down, but it would still not allow me to access the phone.
Apple said to restore to factory settings, and then try to use phone app. I just did and it allowed me to call someone. I'm now loading it with the back-up just before 4.2.1- wish me luck.
    1) Ideally you should use the device for several days without restoring your backup to prove the issue is truly resolved.
    2) If restoring as new corrects the issue it is NOT an iOS 4.2.1 issue, it is a problem with your backup.
    3) There is no reason to restore from your backup, you are simply re-introducing the problem that you were trying to correct.

  • My iPhone 3gs is shutting down and going into un-recovery mode?? : (

Hi, its my first time on here, due to the fact that I have never ever had any problems with my iPhone 3gs.
    Until 3 weeks ago.
It all started when my e-mail decided that it was going to be difficult. so I go to restart my iPhone and my screen lock/ power button does not respond at all. then the trouble ensues.. two days later, (after I ran the battery to nadda so it would turn off) and was fully charged, my phone cut out while I was sending a text. I was connected to wifi. the cell service bars were gone, and 3-5 seconds later my wifi disappeared also. at this point I was thinking dude? and the touch screen was still functioning. so I checked the network settings and my screen became unresponsive. my phone then went instantly to a black but still lit screen and then was off. my lock button still would not work so it wouldn't turn on with that, so I hit the home button and it showed a screen with a iTunes symbol and a USB cord, and a slide for emergency call bar. also there was a little quetion mark circle thing so I tapped it and a screen with two four letter acronyms and a number set for each showed up. long story shortened, I call apple and am on the phone with them for 5-6 hours over the next two weeks. they were of absolutely no use, and proceeded to lay into me about how I am using too much data.. and that my phone is probably not going to be fixable.
I get it to work by popping my sim card and restoring it then puting it back in and factory reset it with the sim card in it.
I get it working again and it is fine until last night. same exact thing.
what can I do?? im lost.
    Information that might help..
my phone has had around 200+(10-30) gigs run through cellular data (3G)
about 450 gigs total including wifi.  X (
has never been jailbroken, dropped, opened, water damage etc..
    current i tunes/iphone updates.
    windows 7
    iTunes 64 bit
    AT&T
will post more info if you want to help ..
    THANK YOU!!!

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • My iPhone 4 keeps shutting down :/ lately it's taken 2hrs to come back  up. Diagnostics shows panic.plist and I've had my phone barely over a year. Will Apple replace it? As I hear I need to make an appt at the apple store.

My iPhone 4 keeps shutting down. The past 3 days it's taken at least 2hrs to come back on. It constantly has no service and tells me system restore is needed. Under diagnostics it shows panic.plist. I've had my phone a year and 3mths. I hear I need to go to apple to get a replace as this is a software issue. It isn't under warranty. Will they replace it or is it a waste of my time? I recently just got the iOS update and now my phone gets hot to the touch also. Please help. My upgrade isn't until summer of next year but I need a phone that works and will get signal!

    Out of Warranty replacement for iPhone 4 is $149 US;
you will get the same model, color and capacity you have.
If your current iPhone was locked to a wireless provider,
the replacement will be locked to that same provider.

  • Iphone 4s aps shutting down

    Hi
The aps on my iphone are indesciminately shutting down - often whilst opening but not always. I have reset setting on phone, reloaded all via itunes and got a replacement phone so I think it must be something I've put on the phone???
How do I work out what's causing this?
    Cheers! Clare

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.
