Iphone 3gs issue while backing up

I plug it into my computer and run a backup...goes all through he backup and then a box opens up that says Adding Files and in the box it states:
Processing: 20100121 163136 9.m4a
and nothing happens...
what is going on?
phone says...sync in process

Hello,
The manual is vague about what is really happening, it does mention that it won't kick off automatically unless you are SYNCING with iTunes, which I'm not.  Does not really say what SYNCING means in this context, but thanks for telling me to read the manual, it was very helpful NOT!
=======================================
When you connect iPhone to the computer you normally sync with, iTunes creates a backup each time you:
Sync with iTunes: iTunes syncs iPhone each time you connect iPhone to your computer.
iTunes won’t automatically back up an iPhone that isn’t configured to sync with that computer. See “Syncing with iTunes” on page 18.
Update or restore iPhone: iTunes automatically backs up iPhone before updating and restoring.
iTunes can also encrypt iPhone backups to secure your data.
Encrypt iPhone backups: Select "Encrypt iPhone backup" in the iTunes Summary screen.
Restore iPhone files and settings: Connect iPhone to the computer you normally sync with, select iPhone in the iTunes window, and click Restore in the Summary pane.

This is not very iTunes Public Site Manager related... but I was in the same situation as you a little while ago.
    1 - Sync/back up your old 3gs.
2 - Activatie your new phone when connected to itunes via cable and it will ask you if you want to restore our old phone.
    3 - ???
    4 - profitt!
might also work with icloud but i have not tried that method.

  • HT201412 iPhone 3GS issue

    Hi,
I have an iphone 3GS which was given to me by my friend as she has the new iphone 5. It has been working OK with my sim card and her existing applications as I haven't had time to do a restore or back up. I had the phone on charge last night and when I looked at it this morming the screen just shows the apple on a black screen and the apple comes and goes. I can't turn it off or get into it.
I have tried a restore but it came up with error message 1602 so I removed my mouse usb connector and change the usb port I was using and tried again. Still the same error message.
Now iTunes won't even recognise the phone when I connect it and I don't know what to do next. Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks, Sam

Follow the steps for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • IPhone 3gs wont turn back on once it goes into sleep mode!

2 days ago my iPhone 3gs (OS 6.0.1) has gone completely wacko on me and i'm completely frustrated!   I have my phone set to have the screen shut off after 5 minutes.  Usually, to just reaccess the phone I just simply hit the home button.  Now, if I let it go into sleep mode, the phone WILL NOT come back on!  I went online and did some research, and it suggested holding the home button and the sleep button for 10 seconds to get it to come back on.  It works most times, but sometimes it takes a few tries to get it to come back on, and when it does come back on it takes forever to load up.  But the whole thing happens all over again when it goes into sleep mode.  My phone is fine as long as I set it to never go into sleep mode, but it is killing my battery.  I need to be able to put it into sleep mode as I have to be able to go all day without charging it at my job.  PLEASE help...I don't know what's going on with it.  I have never done anything to it (jailbreaking, illegal stuff, etc.) and I do all the updates that it asks to do.
    Please please help!
    Jennifer.

If you actually see a "6" error code, here's what it means.  Disable your anti-virus and/or firewall.
Errors related to third-party security software
    Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 1000, 9006
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.

  • Iphone 3GS stalls while typing. Possible virus?

    Greetings
For the past 6 months or so my Iphone 3gs seems to get stuck while typing on any application. For example, the last letter typed will stay high lighted for 2 seconds or so then drop into place. Also delays while trying to access internet while on wifi network. It takes much longer to do anything.
I believe it all began once I clicked a link from a spammer on the twitter app.
Is there a quick fix? Do I have a virus?
    Please help
    Thank you

Is there a quick fix? Do I have a virus?
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
As already said, unless you're JB, you have nothing to worry about regarding a virus.

  • How to get an iPhone 3GS recorded video back on the iPhone

Okay so when you import the video taken with the iPhone 3GS they are saved into iPhoto. Is there a simple way to have them sync back to the iPhone. Seems iPhoto can't sync them back.
I know you can drag the video file into iTunes and do it that way. But there really needs to be a simple way like syncing photos
    any ideas

no real solution. guess it's to save space. apple needs to add this option to iphoto

  • IPhone 3GS Charging while Docked

I have docked my iPhone 3GS in several different docks (2008 BMW, Yamaha iPod dock, etc.) In every case the phone displays a message that the external device does not support charging, and do I want to switch to airplane mode to conserve power. At the Apple store I was told that the new iPhones use different pins for the external power, and that a $20 adapter was required to support existing docks. I bought one, but it seems to have no effect whatever. Is it possible to charge the 3GS while docked? If so, how?

    You're welcome.
Since both the docks and the USB cable that comes with the phone use the same plug on the bottom of the iPhone, does that mean that the adapter sold at the Apple Store should indeed take the dock's power from the Firewire pins and reroute it to the pins used by the USB connector? In other words, is it possible for an adapter to allow an existing dock to charge a new iPhone?
If this is what the adaptor is advertised and sold to be used for, then yes. This should allow for charging via USB, but it probably won't prevent the warning or error message from being provided if the device your iPhone is connected to with the adaptor does not include the "made for iPhone" certification.

  • Iphone 3GS issue

Hi, I had purchased an iphone 3GS in USA in June 2009. I moved to india in feb 2010 and i had to break my ATT wireless contract by paying the early termination fees. The ATT folks had promised that after i pay the ETF for the phone, they will send my device id to Apple for an unlock and the next time i sync my phone with itunes it will be unlocked. Until now that has not happened. Wanted to check if what ATT folks promised is true ?

AT&T could unlock your phone if they wanted to, but they won't. They never unlock iPhones, ever, under any circumstances. They lied to you. They seem to know the correct procedure for unlocking, so it's not a case of ignorance.

  • IPhone 3Gs Issues: Anyone can help?

    Hey guys,
After updating my iPhone 3GS which was working perfectly in ios4 i updated to ios5 and now I have a whole lot of problems that I have never had before.
    My problems are :
    1. Safari randomly just shuts down. It is still in the multitasking bar but my screen flashes black and then it goes to the home screen. Sometimes this happens with other apps aswell tough not as frequently as with the Safari app.
When i go and see in the diagnostics reports there are always lowmem warnings, could this be causing the safari crashes?
Also when i multitask to my settings app it always has a black screen flash.
    2. Battery life drains at around 5-10% an hour with all the possible "fixes" i have found here on this forum. Even when on airplane mode it still loses 15% over night.
I tried recalibrating my battery as some users stated that this would help (dropping it to 0% and then recharging it completely) but when it shuts down at 0% and i plug it in my macbook it just has a yellow screen untill it boots up again. Is this yellow screen normal? My iphone used to just show the red battery with charging icon when depleted?
Also tried the mail account delete and re-add trick, disabling locations services, push notifications, wifi synchronisation, icould etc and as a result i now have a phone with 0 possibilities and still drainage of 5-10% an hour
Also i had charged it to 100% and it stayed like that for 30 minutes then it went to 95% in 10 minutes, went downstairs and it dropped to 77 in 2 minutes or so?? How is that even possible?
I really don't know what to do anymore? Love my iphone and it is an awesome phone but I can't use it properly in this state.
Thanks in advance for the help!
    Kind regards

  • Iphone 3gs issue - application

    Hi all,
please be kind and help me resolve the following issue:
I was downloading Football Manager Lite from the AppStore on my 3gs (via WiFi), and while the iphone was in "waiting" status, my battery completely drained, and iphone was just shut down.
After starting it back on, I'm left with the blank icon, still in "waiting" status, with no possibility to remove it. Also, I cannot access AppStore anymore.
I connected the iphone on my PC and iTunes, which recognized the download in process, and finished it, even installed it on iphone, but I still do not see it as installed, just "waiting".
Do not know what to do with this, any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you.

If restoring from backup did not resolve the problem, restoring as a new device is the only option left. This will erase all data on your phone. To be on the safe side here, find and delete all the .ipsw files on your computer first. There should only be one, but delete all that you find. You will have to turn on show all hidden files & folders to see them. Doing this will force iTunes to re-download a fresh copy of the OS. They are located here:
    OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    7&Vista: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

  • Error message on iphone 3GS when initiating back-up for the first time "icloud backup failed - how to fix

When initiating back-up of my 3GS to icloud for the first time, I repeatedly receive an error message reading:
    "iCloud backup failed
There was a problem enabling iCloud backup"
I cannot find a solution to this problem amd no amount of checking and rechecking account settings etc. has made any difference. Does anyone have experience of how to overcome this issue. The iCloud back-up initiated on my iPad without any problem so I do not think the problem is account related.
    Thanks.

    Same problem here...
I just upgraded my 3GS to iOS5 and signed into iCloud using my Apple ID...
Every time I click "Back Up Now" in the iCloud preferences on the iPhone, I get "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later."
On my wife's iPhone 4, I just performed a back up and there were no errors.  I tried this also on my wife's iPad 2 and it worked perfectly.
    I have tried the following:
    1. In iTunes, when my phone is connected, I selected "Back up to iCloud" on the summary tab
    2. Reset my phone using the steps in the above post
    3. Deleted the iCloud account on my iPhone and logged in again
    4. Tried to backup from 3 different wireless networks
None of the steps above fixed the issue which has been going on all day for me...
Any other help would be great - thanks!
