Iphone 3gs, it wont charge

I have an Iphone 3gs it wont charge and I am not sure if it is the battery or the docking port that is the problem. When I try to charge it the battery symbol appears on the screen but it just wont charge. I have tried different chargers and docks, and none of them work so it is defenatly the phone that is the problem. However I cant get it fixed until I know if its the battery that needs replacing or the phones docking componenet. I would be really greatful if any one can give me any advice on this!
Thanks guys x

Bring it in to an Apple store.  They can do battery diagnostics.  If the battery needs replacement, you can have it replaced.

It wont charge no matter what i try? the battery is completely dead and it shows the please connect to electricity symbol. but when i plug in it doesnt work i have tried multiple chargers also.. any help?

I have the same problem.  I notice that much like others using iOS 5 my battery drained very quickly, but once it became completely drained it would no longer charged.  I have tried different usb cables, different wall charging blocks, different computers..nothing happens.  I've left it plugged into a power source overnight, but it remained dead the next day. My 32gb 3GS has been like this for 4 days now and the screen with very low red battery and the (plug --> charge) symbols undernearth no longer appears when i press/hold the lock button.  The screen remains completely black and the phone is unresponsive.
Nothing seems to work and no one online seems to have a solution.
Is your phone still showing the screen to connect to power after a week?

  • My iPhone 3GS won't charge at all what do I do?

my iPhone wont charge please help!

    Regarding iPhone 3GS won't charge:
I have the same iPhone, and also sync with  iTunes on my Mac Book Pro computer.  After just a few months after purchasing my NEW iPhone 3GS, the charger stopped working and would not show up on the computer.  After trouble shooting my equipment, I discovered that the USB CORD was no longer working, NOT the AC Jack Component. My phone was still under warranty for 1year with Apple Care and extended purchased insurance  with VerizonWireless.  I contacted VerizonWireless as per my contract agreement, and was transferred to Apple Care Support.  Apple Care informed me: A new [Apple Manufactured Original Equipment parts] would be replaced free of charge, BUT, I would first need to secure the return of the defective equipment with a deposit of the purchase price on my credit card. After the receipt of my returned defective equipment, my credit card would be credited back for the full deposit amount.  This was NOT acceptable to me.  I called Verizon and they mailed me a new [VerizonWireless Manufactured part] USB Cord. After a time, I had to replace that USB cord also. Apparently the USB Cord burns out after a time of use.  SOLUTION; I keep about 4 new USB Cords in stock at home!!  You may also need to check if your iPhone software is up to date, this could effect it's performance also.
    Hope this helps

As I said above, some of the new lightning cables have been known to be causing problems for some users.  Have it replaced if at all possible by bringing it into your local Apple Store's Genius Bar.

  • HT4623 my iphone 3gs won't charge anymore.

My wife's iphone 3gs won't charge anymore even tho we leave it charging all night.

You can clean the iPhone's dock connector with an old dry toothbrush.
You won't know for certain, but if no change after making sure the dock connector port is clean, more than likely there is some damage.
Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby where it can be determined if there is damage to the dock connector port or if there is another hardware problem.

  • My iphone 3gs will not charge after battery replacement

    Hey
I've had an iPhone 3gs for almost two years now. Recently I shattered the screen and cracked the back. Last summer I broke my led screen and paid 250 to get a new phone from apple. To avoid this cost my dad decided to order parts online and fix it himself. He is one of those do it yourself dads. After watching tutorials and taking my phone apart he replaced the parts and put it back together (Parts included a new screen, a back, and a battery). Once we finished we plugged the phone in and what happened was that it would be stuck at the charging screen with a think red line. Every once in a while it attempts to turn on, the apple icon appearing but once it finished that it flashes my homepage and turns off. It constantly repeats this.
I've gone through a TON of pages but have had no success in finding a solution. We've tried rebooting my phone (it doesn't work), restarting my computer, multiple plug-ins, basically everything. When plugged in to a computer, iTunes is unable to detect my phone. Any other suggestions?
Any advice would be MUCH apprectiated. Thank you

Nevermind guys, figured out it was a fault in the battery. We took my old battery out of my old phone put it in, sure enough it worked:)

  • IPhone 3gs (with full charge) went dead in middle of playing a podcast

My iPhone 3gs had a full charge. In the middle of listening to a podcast, it just suddenly stopped playing, and the screen went blank. The iPhone is unresponsive, no matter what buttons I press and hold. Nothing happens when I plug it into my work computer via USB (I was hoping it would cause it to start doing something...anything). The work computer doesn't have iTunes.
Is there a chance my iPhone 3gs will come back to life once I connect it to it's home iMac, that it syncs to iTunes with?
    Any other suggestions?
    Please and thank you.
    Wayne

Well if the battery did go dead then you cannot charge off USB...USB requires the phone to send signal to computer that it is connected so the computer knows it is there to send charge back. If it is dead, you have to charge off wall adapter.

  • Iphone/ipad 2 wont charge

for about a week now, neither iphone (we have two) or my ipad two will charge. when pulled in to charge it says something like "accessery not supported". my husbands charger is a walmart store bought, while my phone and ipad are pulled into my mac laptop or a apple charger. we are able to get intermintent charging but. its like stand on your head, hold one ear load and do a dance to get it to work.

A little history first. When I first got my iPhone 3GS it changed with everything, my iMac and a variety of chargers including an iHome I got for a present. Around the time I uploaded a firmware patch to the iPhone, the one that corrected the signal strength meter for cell reception, I started getting warnings about being plugged into an unsupported charger. At first they were intermittent and I didn't pay them serious attention because unplugging & plugging the iPhone back in usually resolved the issue. Unfortunately it got progressively worse. I would get the message every time and I could only get the iPhone charged by leaving it plugged into the fairly new iHome almost all the time. I had tried everything including cleaning the contacts, blowing air on the contacts, resetting the iPhone, powering it on & off, everything. I finally decided to try one more thing. Since most of my chargers were at least a year old, with the exception of the iHome, I decided to buy a new charger. Not just any charger but one rated to charge the iPad. Well it worked. I got the unsupported charger message the first time I plugged it into the new charger but I just unplugged it and plugged it back in again & haven't seen it again as long as I'm plugged into the new charger and it's been 3 weeks. The curious thing is that the iPhone will now charge on the iHome OK & I only see the message intermittently now. The iPhone also seems to charge a lot faster now than it used to when plugged into the new charger.
By the way, if anyone is interested the charger I'm using is the Griffin PowerDuo 10 watt charger for iPod, iPhone & iPad. It comes with both a wall & car charger & cable.

  • My iPhone 3GS will not charge. What can I do?

When I plug my iPhone 3GS into my apple charger, it charges for about 15 seconds then says "charging is not supported by this accessory". What can I do? I have restarted my phone and tried to restore it but it won't stay connected long enough for me to dowload it, much less install it. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

That's often an indication that the dock connector at the bottom of the phone is either dirty or damaged.  Blow compressed air on it and/of gently brush it with a clean, dry toothbtush.  Also be sure the usb cable is able to make a good connection to the connector without being obstructed by your case.  If it's a tight fit, try removing your case.
