IPhone 3GS Network (AT&T) Connectivity

Hello. Recently I have been noticing that I cannot send or receive text messages or use any data services at times on my iPhone 3GS. If try to send a SMS or MMS I just get the "Message Send Failure". When try to use data, I simply just cannot connect. Also, at random times the phone will display "No Service" or "Searching" in the top left hand corner. I went to AT&T to get a new SIM card and that did not help. It is not the network around here because the other iPhone's in our enterprise run without any issue. After about 10 minutes of the phone being turned on, the services are available, 10 minutes after that, they are not working once again.
My battery had been dying very quickly too, even when it is on standby.
Any Suggestions on What to Do? Thanks.

Since you've already replaced your sim, the only other troubleshooting steps available are:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
If no change, continue:
1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
If no change, continue:
2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
If no change, continue:
3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store as you most likely have a hardware problem that will require replacing the phone.

Hello, I have an Iphone 3GS and can't connect to Game Center.  It recognizes my apple ID account, states it was never used with Game Center. Then asks for country, birthdate, then returns to ask country again, then birthdate, and returns to the loop. Never ends the loop unless I cancel the setup process.  I have restored the iphone to the factory settings and restored the backup, but did not work. Any suggestions on what can be the problem? thank you.

I just read another post that says you can go into a game that allows for multiple players and utalizes game center and enter your account information that way.  I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to work for others that had this issue.

  • I have a iPhone 3GS and the power connection prongs are damaged and it won't charge or sync.  Is there any way to repair?

I have a iPhone 3GS and the power connection prongs are damaged and it won't charge or sync.  Is there any way to repair?  Or, at least is there a way to charge so I can write down phone numbers and othe rinformation.  My power charge is totally out right now.

If it will not turn on - you have zero chance of getting anything off the phone.

  • Just got an iPhone 3GS, How do I connect to home WiFi network?

I posted this in the network discussion as well, but wasn't getting answers and I need to resolve this problem as soon as possible.
I just got my brand new iPhone 3GS. I just recently finished fully charging it and activating it. I am exploring my new device but I am getting extremely frustrated as to connecting to WiFi. I want to use WiFi for web browsing, but when I go to WiFi on my iPhone it says No Networks (or something of the sort). I try to enter in the name of my network (which I know). But I don't know what kind of security OR the password to the network.
I really want to enjoy this phone/gadget but I don't know how to set it up to connect to my network.
Can somebody help me in telling me where I can find the security type and password to my network.
    Thanks!

Sounds like you (or a buddy who helped you) setup your home network to Cloak its SSID (name). Thus as you said, you need to manually enter it.
But from there, you will also need to know any Key (password) you set on it to join.
If you don't know those items, not much we can do to help (now I could always drive on by fire up airrack-ng suite and break in for ya)
You can always go to your computer, try to access your router (odds are http://192.168.1.1 ) via your browser.
Then see what settings you can get to.
If it was locked down, then I suggest going to your routers website and read up how to reset the router (odds are button on back you have to hold in for 10 secs) which will reset the router back to default settings.
All devices will then have to re-join your default network (real manual that came with router or get one online before resetting).

  • Is my iPhone 3GS network locked?

I have an iPhone 3GS which was supplied by Vodafone UK. I haven't used it for ages, but recently decided to update it to iOS5, and then put an O2 sim in it.
The iPhone has just had a 'Restore' done in iTunes. When I turn it on (with the O2 sim in it) it asks which language to use etc., and then attempts to Activate over my wireless connection. This message is then displayed:
If I try to activate it in iTunes, a similar message appears: 'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.'
My question: does this message means that the iPhone is networked locked to Vodafone, or does it mean something else?

i have done this before and its easy to sort for free if the phone is over 0ne year old put the vodafone sim back in and ring voda cus services the will unlock it with in 48 hours then you should be fine . i have posted on google sites the name of my info is dannydecade

  • IPhone 3Gs Network, Wifi And Bluetooth Off On 4.3.3

Hi, it was two days (so from yesterday) that I have big issues with my iPhone 3Gs with iOS 4.3.3. It not have falls, so I don't think it's hardware problems, because it seems that all the connectivity modules restart. Network (3G or 2G), Wifi And Bluetooth seems to be off and again on, and repeats. First I try to restart, but nothing is fixed. Then I try to restore and insert backup, restore on DFU and insert again the apps, but this afternoon it restart the problems, and restarts itself two times. It strange because I see that the "Personal Hotspot" appears together with this issues. I posted images for explain better (the time is different because is not easy to shot the moment of the restart of the modules. I want to remak that since yesterday morning I never have this problems.

ind my iphone is turned on turn this off and  wifi will come on again also do a network reset after this then you can turn FIND my iphone on again  job done
Complete nonsense.  Find My iPhone has nothing to do with the grayed out wifi issue which you clearly don't understand - tuning it on and off does nothing.
    ya donkey
    Your post is donkey excrement

  • My IPhone 3GS Won't Stay Connected to 3G

    Hello IPhone World!!!
I have an IPhone 3GS. Recently I have found that my phone will not stay connected to 3G. I'll make a call with it in 3G mode and after a few mintues, the call drops and there is a "No Service" indicator on the display. If I switch it off (back to 2G) the signal comes back. When attempting to enable 3G, the No Service message returns on the display. The only way I can temporarly restore 3G is to turn on and off the Airplane Settings. However, after trying to place a call, the 3G signal dissappears and the call is dropped again.
I've spoken to my wireless provider and was assured that there are no problems with the network and have verified the same with friends who also have a fully functioning 3G device.
The warranty on the phone has run out and I am not yet eligible to upgrade to an IPhone 4. Please help!!
p.s. I have NEVER jailbreaked my phone.

I would try a reset or a restore first. Also, chances are that you paid for your phone using a credit card. Most credit cards give buyer an extra year of warranty protection. If you paid with a credit card and the purchase date is less than two years, call your credit card company and ask if they can pay for the repair.

  • My iPhone 3GS & iPad 4 wont connect to my Macbook

Hello, my name is Dave. I have two problems with Apple products.
I've been trying to upload music to my iPhone 3GS and iPad from my Macbook.
         - iPhone 3GS problem
I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS with 6.1.6. I want to upload music to my phone, but I cant. I can connect my iPhone to my Macbook, and it wont even charge it, closed or not. I haven't tried putting my iPhone into recovery mode yet, only because it wont even charge from my Macbook. I followed Glenn Carter's instructions from this link. Iphone wont connect to macbook
"Well, I may have discovered a fix, or at least a work around for this.
Quit iTunes if open, and go to Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
    Scroll down to
    com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Move it to the Trash (but don't Empty it yet).
Log out of your account (or reboot), and then log back in. Now, without launching iTunes, connect your iPhone and see if iTunes launches on its' own.
Let us know your results. Cheers!" -Glenn Carter
         -iPad 4 problem
My second problem is with my 32GB iPad 4 with 8.1. I am having a similar problem to what is going on with my iPhone. My iPad will connect to my Macbook and iTunes, but will ask me to enter my passcode to gain access. The problem is, I will enter my passcode, it will read for a second, then come back with the same thing. It shows up with this message.
"iTunes could not connect to the iPad “David J. Botelho's iPad” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes."
It will ask me to try again, and I keep trying. It still comes up with the same message EVERY time I try to enter my passcode to gain access.
         I have a Macbook 5, 2 with Mac OS X 10.6.8(10K549) and I have iTunes 11.0.4.
This is very annoying. I would appreciate it if someone could solve either one of my problems, or both. Thank you for your time.
         -Dave

Then, after a few times of disconnecting and reconnecting my iPad to my Macbook, this shows up....
Not even an iPhone !!! VERY confused.

  • IPhone 3GS network ***** compared to iPhone 3G

I have been facing network problems with my iPhone 3GS since i changed from 3G to 3GS!!!
So i decided to do a test and compare both the iPhone 3GS and 3G, it turned out that the 3G have a stronger network!!! (Btw i have 3 iPhone 3GS and 1 iPhone 3G)
    TO APPLE:
Consumers all over the world are facing ****** problems with your proclaimed most powerful iPhone (3GS) and if you are not going to do anything, i assure you your competitors will close you down just like in the 80's when IBM kicked Apple out of the computer industry!!!
There are androids, HTC HD2 and other smart phones with snap dragon processor coming out strong... iPhone 3GS is the history of 2010!!!
    SHAPE UP OR SHAPE OUT...

in the 80's when IBM kicked Apple out of the computer industry
Really? Apple aren't in the computer industry anymore?

    Apple profits up 50%

  • IPhone 3GS Whit iOS6 Wifi Connection Problem

Hello Apple i have iphone 3gs simfree whit ios 6 not jailbroken
the iphone cant connect to any wifi and if the iphone connected
there is no internet connection and then the iphone disconected
from wifi after 5-10 minutes now i stuk whit ios6 whithout my icloud
and everything alse .... please fix this bug !!!
    now someone hare have solution?

In the details of your WiFi connection what is listed for the IP address?
If it starts with 169 then it is self-assigned and your router is not giving your iPhone a LAN IP address. You will not be able to access the internet.
This problem might be resolved by simply restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds).
If you need more help please give the make/model of your router and some details of how it is configured, i.e., security type (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • IPhone 3gs networking issues... No 3g

Not getting 3G network. Currently I only receive "E" network. I have a new sim card, traded in a new phone and restored the software however I still get no 3G network. I sometimes get it for a rare moment and then it disappears. I did the At&t coverage and it said 3g was n my area however I still get anything. Is it possible I have two 3gs defected phones?
Or I can not get the 3g network on te

I would definitely be suspicious of AT&T before the two iPhones. Not that the iPhone is particularly great at 3G reception but more that AT&T can be particularly poor at providing 3G. Being in their claimed 3G coverage area does not mean much.
Have you tested inside and outside of your home? If you get coverage outside of your home, your structure may not be getting well-penetrated by AT&T's 1900MHz band. The installation of a repeater/amplifier may be needed to get good service until AT&T improves their network. If you do not get service even outside, there isn't much you can do. You may have to just deal with it and use WiFi (push notifications seem to work over EDGE ok) or switch to an EVDO provider/phone such as Sprint's Pre or Verizon's Storm. I've owned both and the Pre is the much nicer device (much closer to the iphone than anything else).

  • My iphone 3GS says "activation required"  "connect to itunes"

When i connect to itunes it says it needs restored. When I try and restore it, it says there is an error. The iphone just recieved a new battery if this helps.

    SuzanneLogan wrote:
    an unknown error (3194)
Error 3194 means that iTunes cannot determine the authorization status of your phone because it cannot connect to gs.apple.com.
    Possible reasons:
    1. Your antivirus or firewall is blocking it.
    2. Your phone is jailbroken or hacked.
    3. You have used your computer to hack or jailbreak an iOS device in the past, and the program that you used to do it corrupted your network database.
For 1. try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall.
For 2. and 3. you need to find and edit the hosts file on your computer and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com, then save the repaired file, reboot your computer and try again.
    Windows: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Mac: /etc/hosts
An alternative is to restore using a different computer.
