iphone 3gs not abe to restored ...error unknown error occurred (2003)

Hey caprameg,
If you are having issues restoring your iPhone, take a look at the resource below for some initial troubleshooting steps.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support

Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-lb/TS3694
To narrow down the issue, you can try different equipment:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
Try a different computer.
Solve other issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
I hope this information helps ....

  • HT201413 HELP!  I was updating my iphone 4S to the new IOS6 via itunes when in the in the middle of the process of actually updating the iphone OS, it suddenly returned an error - "The iPhone could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)"  PLEAS

    PLEASE HELP!!!
I am using an HP DV9 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and the latest iTunes software.
I regularly synch my iphone 4S with my laptop & Outlook.
I recently got the message that an IOS6 upgrade is available & so I scheduled to apply the update.
Everything was running normally when, after the download of the update, backup of my iphone, & applying the update began when
suddenly, iTunes returned with an ERROR MESSAGE as follows:
The iPhone "Ramon's iPhone" could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)
Now, my iphone is stuck with the iTunes icon and the USB image with an arrow pointing to the iTunes
    icon.
    WHAT DO I DO NOW?????!!!!!
    Help PLEASE!!!!

I actually tried the steps below due to the error -5000 I had encountered during the previous tries updating my IOS to 5.1.1
"Perform a normal sync and check your iTunes to make sure everything was synced in the right places like the tabs at the top of your "summary" when you plug in your iPhone to iTunes.  If everything is there and all the right boxes are checked for the stuff you want to save, then put your phone into recovery mode by keeping it plugged into your computer with iTunes still up and running. Next you want hold down the power button AND the home key button (the big button on the bottom part of your screen) AT THE SAME TIME. Your phone will go thru 4 different screens before you
Can let them go.  U will see your normal power off slider screen, then a black screen, then a black screen with an apple logo, then finally a screen with the iTunes logo and a picture of a sync cable below it. Once you see this screen LET BOTH BUTTONS GO but not before you see this screen.  Your computer will tell you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, say ok.  Then hit the restore button on your iTunes summary screen, it should then ask you if you want to restore from a backup and update, say yes.... And at the end of its restoring and uploading you should have iOS 5!!"
Then it proceeded to a reactivation process... =(

  • IPhone "could not be updated. An unknown error has occurred. (3194)"

So I have a Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.7  iTunes has dowloaded 4.2.8, but when I tell it to update the iPhone, it starts and then tells me the iPhone "could not be updated. An unknown error has occurred. (3194)"  Any thoughts?  Thanks.  Same thing happens with my iPad 3G, btw.

Here is an article about this issue: Update and restore alert messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
The instructions for troubleshooting are quite extensive so it is better if you see them directly in there.

  • The iphone could not be restorted. An unknown Error occurred (21).

when i  restore my iphone using  itune this error pop up".The iphone could not be restorted. An unknown Error occurred (21)". what should i do? my iphone cant open..

This is a solution to this problem, but you have to have all your iPhone data backuped before you set the iPhone into DFU Mode (Device Firmware Upgrade Mode)
Please Follow the following instruction Step by Step
         - Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC via the 30-pin connector.
         - Hold Power and Home-Button for ten seconds.
         - After ten seconds, release the Power Button, but keep the Home button pressed until iTunes sees the        device.
         - Once your device into DFU mode, there will only be a black screen on your iPhone.
If you successfully performed these steps, iTunes will give you a message that a device was found in Recovery Mode and restore it to be.
Now you SHIFT and Restore in iTunes button to press together, so that iTunes can refer to the IOS firmware to which you are restoring. If you have followed these steps you shouldn't get the Error 21 anymore.

    Hi everyone
Does anyone have corrective advice for me to follow please?
In attempting to update the iPhone to the iOS6 today (from iOS5.1), I received the following error message:
The iPhone "[my name]'s iPhone" could not be updated. An unknown error occured (-1).
    Thanks,
    tooborac1

    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • IPhone 3GS cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-39).

My iPhone 3GS won't sync.  I get an error message in Step 5 of 5 when it's trying to delete photos.  The message says "The iPhone "iPhone 3GS" cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-39)."
How do I fix this?  Is there anyone out there who can please help?

Try restarting your phone and computer, use a different USB cord, use a different usb port on your computer.  Try these to see if any of them help.  Good luck!

  • The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)

I have a problem with updating my iPhone 5 to IOS7. Everytime I go to update the iPhone to IOS7, I get this "The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)" error. It stays stuck at "waiting for iphone" then the 4005 error pops up after like 10-15 minutes of "waiting for iphone".
Also it leaves my iPhone in the "connect to itunes" screen after the error pops up. And when I try turning the iphone on and off and restarting it, the iphone still stays stuck at the "connect to itunes" screen and I have to use software to unlock the phone so I can actually use my phone.
The screenshot of this problem is below. Someone help, my itunes is updated to the latest version as well.

I've got a similar problem only mine says unknown error (2001). During the initial installation of this months update a USB cord plugging in the iTunes icon showed up on the screen. It stayed there for about 2 minutes and then the iPhone rebooted. It repeated this cycle more times then I can count. I'm happy to say that it is now working. But non the less I've been pretty frustrated with the iPhone and Leopard sometimes.
In response to a comment that it seems that every iTunes related software update seems buggy I would have to say that I agree. I've been using Macs since 1987 and I have to say that in past 3-4 years Apple has changed a lot. It's more popular then ever before. It's products are even more stylish and innovative then ever before. But the rising demand for Macs has forced Apple to cut corners it seems. In some ways Apple products aren't what they used to be.

I start restore - i get an error. I start again. It shows all the green bars as completed but then freezes. I restart the computer.
ITUNES tells me again that Iphone is in recovery and needs restore.

I received this error and can not get my phone to sync anymore?
    Any ideas?

    I have the same problem.
My iPhone 3GS crashed the other night when I installed the new iPhone OS. I restored it and everything was fine except having to re-position my apps how I had them. Then I went to change the music I have on it, and it cannot complete the sync (same error message). There are also now songs on my iPhone that will not play (are missing).

  • TS3694 What now? " The iPhone could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (6).

What do I do now that unknown error (6) has occured when trying to put IOS 7.02 on my iPhone4?

    Hello Wilson,
Sorry to hear that you are receiving an error when trying to update your iPhone.  I recommend following the steps below when receiving Error 6 when trying to update:
Errors related to third-party security software
    Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 1000, 9006
Follow the steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or phobos.apple.com isn't blocked by a firewall or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under "Advanced steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)" below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.
