IPhone 3GS not being recognised by MacBook Pro

hello.
just a few days ago i was able to sync my iPhone 3GS via iTunes to my laptop using the supplied USB cable. Today when I tried, nothing, the iPhone doesn't do anything and iTunes doesn't launch. The only update I have put on my machine is the recent 10.5.8 Security update yesterday - not sure it is related?
so in the process of elimination, I've tried the following.
1. connected my 5.5G iPod using the same usb cable - ipod mounts fine and iTunes launches.
2. connect my iPhone to the AC Adapter using the same usb cable - iPhone charges fine
3. tried iPhone on all USB ports using same usb cable - nothing happens.
so I'm happy the USB cable and ports are all functional and the iPhone connector is ok, as it does charge when connected to an AC power supply.
normally when i connect my iPhone to the laptop, the phone screen turns on, iTunes launched and then it starts a backup and then sync. But this time, nothing happens at all. the iPhone remains in standby. I checked the USB ports in the Apple System Profiler but none of the USB ports are displayed as iPhone.
I have power-cycled both the iphone and laptop but it makes no difference. Any other suggestions - do you think it is hardware or software related?

Try downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

My iphone is not being recognised by macbook. Help please!

I've tried everything. restarting the phone, restarting the macbook, making sure all software is up to date and it will not recognise its there. Its charging off the USB but the computer doesn't see it. I've tried using different cables and that hasn't helped.
What else can I do? The amount of photos I have on there now is getting ridiculous and Im rapidly running out of space! I need to be able to back them up!

When i connect my iphone to my computer it is recognised as a removable disk but not recognised by itunes. I registered my iphone on a friends PC. is this maybe the reason? i got her applications but none of her music etc. is there a simple soloution?

You hook your phone up to your Mac. This should cause iPhoto to automatically open and to scan your phone's photos. If it finds photos that have not been imported yet, it should ask you if you want to import them. Once the import is complete, iPhoto will ask you if you want to delete the photos you just imported from your phone.

Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock.

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again. If the problem remains, update to 10.6.8 and repeat.

Iphone 3gs isnt being recognised by itunes and screen just frozen

iphone 3gs 16gb plugged into main desktop but it has frozen on iphone screen and isnt being recognised by the computer at all,not bringing up itunes at all and when open itunes it doesnt recognise the iphone. Hi, I have connected my iphone to my computer but it is not being recognised on itunes?can u help?

I just replaced my 3GS with an iPhone 4 yesterday, and the new phone will not sync with iTunes. It pops up with the following error message whenever I hook it up:
"The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
I just got this phone from AT&T, and there are no updates available for either my computer or my phone, so they have to have the newest iTunes.
Also, whenever I plug it in, the new phone does not appear under the "devices" tab on the left like my old one does.

IPhone 5s not charging on my macbook pro

When connecting my iPhone 5S Lightning cable to my Macbook Pro 17 (A1297), the iPhone 5S does not show as connected to iTunes unless through WiFi sync. If I shut off the WiFi, the phone does not appear in iTunes. Only through Wifi Sync. There is also no charge going to the phone.
The cable powers the phone just fine on a cube. And I have tried both sides of the connector both ways on the Mac's ports.
Other devices work fine on my Mac's ports such as USB drives that are also powered from the port.
I have reset the PRAM on the Mac and rebooted both devices, to no avail. I have tried other cables as well.
Is there anything I have missed? Any recommendations?

New Seagate 1TB external hard drive is not being selected by MacBook Pro

My new Seagate 1TB external HD is not being identified by the MacBook Pro (10.7.5 Mac OSX). Whereas the same being recognized by a WIN8 OS based PC. I need a format wherby the external HD should be recognised by both Mac OS and Win.
Kindly help.
Pls note my system is being run on safe mode, as there is a problem in the left shif key. Hence, while booting, it is automatically being shifted to the safe mode. I need to format the external HD, so that I can transfer to store my data.

If you want the drive to be able to both read and write on OS X and a Windows machine, you should format the drive as exFAT on the Windows machine. As to why the drive is not recognized when you boot into Safe Mode, that may be because the drive is formatted for another OS and it MAY BE that it's disabled when you run in Safe Mode (which disables a long list of things: see -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US).
If you format it as exFAT on the Windows machine, you MAY BE able to have it mount on your Mac. No guarantees, though.

Canon G9 not being recognized by MacBook Pro

I'm having some issues with a Canon G9 not being recognized by the particular MacBook i have to use. When i connect the G9 via USB (obviously with a good cable and camera switched on) neither Image Capture nor iPhoto recognize it. I have tried connecting the camera to a bunch of other macs (Powerbooks, latest MacBook, same model of Macbook and system as the one I'm using), they all didn't have any trouble recognizing the camera. My MaProxy-Connection: keep-alive

ook can see any other camera I have tried without trouble... I'm using 10.5.6...
The System Profiler does actually see something being connected via USB, but it only shows up as "Composite-Device/0x04a9(Canon Inc.)".
Any ideas what might cause the issue?

Updated information ... these card do get read on an older iMac, circa 2010 or so, also running 10.8.4. For some reason, they're not being read by the internal SD reader on the macbook pro. Odd.

IPhone 4S not wifi syncing with Macbook Pro (2010, Mountain Lion)

Subject pretty much says it all: I can't get my iphone 4S to wifi sync with my Macbook Pro (2010, running Mountain Lion). All relevant pieces have been updated (latest OS on laptop and device, latest iTunes, etc.). wifi sync did work at some point but now simply won't; the device does not show up in iTunes, and trying to manually start a sync from the device just leave it looking for my laptop forever.
A little Google digging did make reference to trying to kill "AppleMobileDeviceHelper" and restarting iTunes. I have noticed that AppleMobileDeviceHelper is not running...should it be? I've even tried manually starting it and it doesn't seem to work. I dug through Console looking for references to it in logs and didn't find anything.
Any suggestions/ideas appreciated.
