This means the iPhone was hacked to be unlocked. The 3GS was not sold in the US as officially unlocked.

It is highly unlikely that any iOS update could cause this.
Try a restore as new, if the problem persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation. -
After the new update my ipad4 will not do a full recharge even when turned off overnight and the battery goes flat it 2 hours it is driving me crazy as I had to stop all apps but still not helping but my iPhone 5 is great no troubles at all HELP
Do you place the ipod in the dock during the night? I did this once and the other day the battery was almost empty because it kept on playing after it rested in the dock.

it always switches itself on after i update. it just did again, this time for 7.1.2.. i t also will switch on after a restore.
i never use bluetooth and make sure it's not on for any other reason.
it's been noticed by others too.

My Iphone keeps crashing since the new update 7.1.. how do I get my phone to work right
First, create a separate login on your computer for your friend. Do this BEFORE you do anything else. Next, make sure iTunes is up to date. Then:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in iTunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on her phone will be in her itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore her itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go. -

An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

After the new update the FFox is now 11.0. But it's really SLOW always CRASHES and most of the time is NOT RESPONDING. I have to go to CHROME it is working perfectly.

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].

You won't see this until you update to iOS 5. You'll have to update using iTunes by going to the Summary tab of your sync settings and clicking on Check for Update (you will probably be prompted that there is an update available when you connect your phone and open iTunes).

Disable your antivirus and firewall.
If that doesn't fix it either the phone was jailbroken or hacked, or the computer you are using was used to hack or jailbreak some other iDevice.
