IPhone 3GS settings for Three UK

I have an iPhone 3GS on Three UK.
How can I check that I have the right settings for this network?
I use both wifi and 3g to contact and roam the web, get emails etc.
Occassionally I get the odd message telling me that the phone cannot make contact with the internet.
I also use the phone tewthered to my iPad2.

If the iPhone normally works ok
when you get the message switch into Airplane mode for a few seconds
Cures mine in similar situation

Just to make sure... you have the phone in ringer mode right? Sometimes the switch on the side gets bumped (especially if you don't have a case on the iPhone) and goes into silent. If you see a orange line on the switch - it's on silent.
If the switch is fine (and isn't loose or anything) try restoring the iPhone in iTunes.

If you have 2-step verification set up for your gmail account, you will need to generate an application-specific password for your iphone applications (because those apps apparently don't support 2-step verification).
Go into your google account, look in accounts/security/2-step verification, there is a link called "Manage your application specific passwords" Use that to generate a special password for your iphone apps and use that instead of your usual gmail password on your phone.

Hi Apple Community, I have a big problem. My old iPhone 3GS just got the new iOS 6.1.6 and I thought it would be great! So I went to go update it and later came to find out it was out of battery. I charged it just like I normally do. It finally came on showing the iOS 6 logo, but it was on emergency calls only. I thought if I let the battery drain again it might fix it. So I did that, and it just got worse. It finally drained of battery and I charged it again, but I turned it on to find that it was disabled for 23 million minutes, which I did the math for, and it is equivalent to 44 years! If you're wondering why I don't do a hard reset, it's because I can't. My iPhone 3GS' sleep/wake button doesn't work. If anyone knows a way to fix this please say so. Thank you!

IPhone 3GS rebooting for no reason

Hi, I have had my 3gs for 2 days, but this morning I launched facebook and the phone just shut down and rebooted. I decided to carry on using the phone and it's been fine untill just a minute ago I went into my contacts to call some one, the phone did it again, has any one eles had this problem or know what is causing it. If it doesn't do it again, I would ignore it. If it does, try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Exchange iPhone 3GS Black for iPhone 3GS White?

If I ordered my iPhone online and wanted to exchange it for a different color can I do this by going to the Apple Store? Or do I have to go through the online store? I already talked to Apple online but I felt like the guy was messing with me, he told he they can do it but there was a restocking fee (which there shouldn't be) but he "talked" his manager into waiving it for me. He then told me I couldn't "exchange" it I would have to return it and rebuy it.
Does this sound right to you guys? Should I call again or should I head to an Apple Store?

The Apple Store is the only place that can give a definitive answer as they are the ones that you will deal with.

IPhone International Settings for Texting Only

2 International travel questions. My son will be visiting Zambia. There is no Wifi. We want to communicate strictly via text. We'd like to turn off anything on his phone that might generate unwanted data charges EXCEPT for what he'll need to send and receive texts. What needs to be left on?

Cellular Data: On or Off?
- Enable 3G: On or Off?
- Data Roaming: On or Off?
- Location Services: I'm assuming Off.
All of those can be OFF for regular texting.
All you need to text is the Cellular radio to be on; that is Ariplane Mode turned off.
However if he texts using email through iMessage, or other Apps like Whatsapp, then those need Cellular Data to be on.
With that, you still need to contact the carrier to see what kind of charges are likely to be applied by texting abroad.

I have an iPhone 3GS. In 2G mode total bars, in 3G mode "no service". Why?

I have an iPhone 3GS. For the past two years I lived near a small, municipal airport in CT. Before I moved there, I was living in a rural area of CT and the phone worked great in 3G mode. As soon as I moved near the airport the phone would not work in 3G. I was told sometimes this happens and to switch to 2G. I have now moved to Florida. When the phone is in 2G mode I have all bars and the phone works great. As soon as I switch to 3G the bars dissapear and "No Service" appear where the bars should be. What's up with this?

More than likely interference. Have you checked the AT&T coverage map? It might show your area as having a lack of decent coverage. Airports tend to be big interference causers due to the metal and other various stuff. My work is located across the street from a busy airport and I get 2 bars MAX on 3G and this is with a cell tower less than a quarter mile away!
A few things to try to check if interference is the cause, go to settings>general>reset and choose RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. This will make your iPhone reboot and also too if you connect to WiFi sources you will have to re enter passwords. After it reboots, test the iPhone...
If that does not work, go to settings and turn Airplane mode on for a minute then off. Test.
If that fails to fix the issue, try resetting your SIM card. Take a small paper clip to the pin hole on the top of your iPhone and stick it inside that hole. The SIM tray will pop out. BE CAREFUL as to not drop the SIM card. Then, push the tray back in. TEST
If those fail, you have some interference. However, as a surefire method to test you can restore your iPhone and test it afterwards but thats up to you.
Also, you might want to see about getting a new SIM card from AT&T

No Home Sharing on iPhone 3GS

I am using a PC with Windows XP Service Pack 3 with iTunes 10.2.1.1 I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.3.1
I am trying to set up home sharing. In iTunes I have set up home sharing and entered my ID and password. In preferences I authorized sharing my library. On the the iPhone under settings for iPod I entered the same ID and password under home sharing. When I open iPod and tap on more, there is no home sharing icon with shared next to it.
I have click on iTunes as an exception to my firewall.
I am also trying to set up Remote, but it is not connecting either.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks?

I called AppleCare and sent my iPhone 3GS in for repair. The empty box came on the Thursday (august 11) and shipped it via Fed ex on Friday. I remember reading in the label "overnight Shipment" and so I expected it to be delivered by Apple on saturday. I checked my repair status and nothing has changed all it says it "Empty box shipped (09-Aug-2010) Shipped via FedEx Ground with tracking number". I'm worried it might get lost and so when should I expect it to change? Also since I bought an iPhone 4 I will be giving my friend my old iPhone 3GS when it comes back from repair. How should she go about, activating it?

Sure, the phone even works (except as a phone) without a Sim card installed.
However, per the AT&T terms of service, if you cancel within 30 days (i.e. without a penalty) you are required to return the phone for a refund.
