  • IPhone 3GS silent switch, help?!

My iPhone 3GS silent switch seems to work fine. But when the iPhone is locked and you turn the switch from loud to silent, or the other way round, the screen doesn't wake up to tell you this has happened, whereas all the other iPhones that I've seen seem to wake up to tell you the setting has changed… don't know if there's something wrong with the phone internally or if this is a software problem. Thanks!

If I were you I would bring it into an Apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • IPHONE 3GS SILENT SWITCH TOTALLY DEAD, NO SILENT FUNCTION???

My iPhone 3GS silent switch has been very tempermental recently, but as of last week, when I switch it onto silent, it does not do anything. No icon on the screen comes up, its just completely useless. Does anyone know what i could do to maybe bring it back? I dont want to take it apart as it could cause further problems... coule it be caused by dirt in the sliding area? I dont have any ideas. Any replies are very much appreciated!

  • IPhone 3GS silent switch broke covered in warrenty?????

Hi, my iPhone silent switch broke off during normal
use. Am I covered under my warrenty?

You'll need to make an appointment at the Genius Bar - http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar and let them decide.

  • IPhone 3GS Silent Switch

I dropped my iPhone 3GS yesterday and the silent switch no longer works. I have had the iPhone for about 14 months now, so my warranty has expired. I don’t want to go paying ‘big money’ just for a silent switch.
Are there any apps out there which allow the mute on/off to be controlled?
Has anyone else had this issue? And fixed without apple support?
Really missing this function. Can anyone help???

No apps can do that. Google for iPhone repair in your area... there's likely one that can fix it.

  • IPhone 3GS silent switch doesn't silence the device

I recently dropped my iPhone 3GS from the desk in my bedroom. I checked to see if it worked fine, and it did. No scratches or nicks.
After that, I found that the Silent switch does not work. I flip it down and receive no notification that the phone is on silent, no on-screen & vibrate notification. So, I tested it by calling my phone from the home phone - and my iPhone 3GS rang and vibrated.
I checked the settings and I even did a reset. Should I do a full reset (Erase All Content and Settings option)?
    Thanks much.

If the switch was damaged with the drop, doubtful that restoring your iPhone with iTunes will resolve the problem,
No need to to erase all content and settings with the iPhone since doing so will require syncing your iPhone with iTunes afterwards, and is a secure erase which will take an hour or two.
You can try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup - sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before to update your iPhone's backup and any data that is kept synchronized. If no change after that, the next option is restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

  • IPhone 3GS silent switch very tight! What to do?

    I need some advise!
I bought the 16gb black 3GS at full price (Factory 86 week 30)
and the screen had a ghosting effect (the kind you see on an older LCD screen with slow response times).
I swapped that out with a new one, which seems fine... So I applied the invisible shield! After letting it dry for two days I turn it on, all is well.... BUT the silent switch is really tight! I have to use a lot of force to switch it to silent and back!
What should I do? Exchange it again & lose the invisible shield? Or keep it and accept that nothing is perfect (it's better than being loose).
I would really appreciate some feedback here!

I had the same exact problem after installing the invisible shield and I think it's because some of the liquid from the invisible shield got in there. I just kept using it and to this day (3 weeks later) it's back to normal. just use it daily so it gets loose over time. Nothing to worry about

  • IPhone 3Gs silent switch (Probable water damage)

    Hi there,
After it spent about 20 minutes in a less-than-waterproof pocket during some heavy rain, I've been having problems with my iPhone. The silent switch seems to not work properly, I can turn it on to silent alright, and it'll happily stay there. But if I want to flick the switch back to "ring" mode, then the switch works fine, but it doesn't change mode. Sometimes I will see the bell show up on the screen, and it'll stay on ring mode for a few minutes, but then it'll put itself back onto silent mode. Also, if the switch isn't on silent mode then it will sometimes spend up to 10 minutes at a time constantly switching between silent and ring mode. As it vibrates each time it does this, it is getting annoying. Especially as it does this during the night if I forget to put it on silent, and this wakes me up!
I accept the fact that it was most likely the water damage that did this, but is there a way I can fix it? I've had friends who have put their iPhones through much worse treatment and they've come out of it alright. I have also tried doing a full factory reset, but this didn't help.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

  • My iPhone 3GS keeps turning itself off all the time for no reason every time I put it on silent or just get a Facebook message I have a broken sleep/power button anyone know how to fix this problem?

My iPhone 3GS keeps turning itself off all the time the power/sleep button dosent work so it's quiet annoying having to plug it in all the time dose anyone have a fix for this?

The "fix" is to get the phone repaired.  There's no magic solution for a broken phone.
Bring your phone ant $149 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement, or find a 3rd party repair shop near you.

  • Iphone 3gs keeps switching off during phone call showing apple logo

My iphone 3gs keeps switching of during phone calls. The apple logo appears and I have to wait until it switches itself back on, this happens without my help, any ideas please

Try restoring the iPhone. If a normal restore doesn't work, try setting it up as a new device.

  • Iphone 3Gs turns its self off when i go on to the internet

    Hello,
Can anyone please help me my Iphone 3Gs turns its self off when i go on to the internet, especially when i go on to google. When i am on the internet browsing my phone screen just goes blank then i need to turn my phone back on.
This happens all the time and it gets so bad that the internet doesn't turn on and turns its self straight off.
    Thanks

You need to go through the basic troubleshooting steps as described in the User Guide:
    Restart phone
Reset phone (press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup.
Restore in iTunes as a new iPhone, without using a backup.
BTW, are you really still using long obsolete iOS 3.0 as your profile states?
Is your phone jb or hacked? In that case, SOL.

  • IPhone 3G Silent Switch Broken

I have always been really careful with my phone just like any other gadget. Today the chrome top of my silent switch broke off when I switched it to silent. I have made a genius bar appointment for saturday at the local apple store and I hope that they will replace it. I paid $300 for this freakin' phone and I want it to work how it's supposed to. I have a light leak on the left side of the phone between the bezel and the glass and now the silent switch. They had better replace my phone or else I'm gunna raise the biggest scene they've ever seen anyone make if they say that they won't replace it. Yes I know that it's not the Genius' fault but the phone is under warranty and I've had it for a month and a half, I can see if I had dropped it or if it was a year old or somethin but after a month? Let me just say if you're an Apple Genius in St. Louis be ready to replace a black 16GB saturday. So what do you guys think, will they replace it, am I right to get upset if they won't. Please weigh in here.

Well yea I guess I got a little worked up. I guess cause it's apple I just expected it all to "just work" ya know? I woulda expected it from microsoft but not apple. And back on topic, the replacement went fine, walked in at my appointment, they looked at the phone for a couple seconds, wrote down my serial, and went in the back to get another one. It was all downhill after that. The first phone they pulled out refused to get 3G on 2.0.2 or 2.1, another swap. Next one refused to update, they tried several times to update it to 2.1 and it wouldn't. Final swap, updated in 10 minutes, activated in under 2 minutes. All is well, silent switch is much better, a lot smoother, much like the switch on my old first gen. Also there is no light leak. Overall I was pretty dissatisfied that it took THREE!! swaps to get one that worked as it should. If that doesnt say something about quality control nothing does. Although there was one genius that went way out of her way to try to make me as happy as possible, and she truly deserves a raise or promotion or something if she treats every customer like that. Final message: if you have a problem, go to the store, they will probably replace it, even if it takes severals swaps to get one that works.
