IPHONE 3GS SILENT SWITCH TOTALLY DEAD, NO SILENT FUNCTION???

My iPhone 3GS silent switch has been very tempermental recently, but as of last week, when I switch it onto silent, it does not do anything. No icon on the screen comes up, its just completely useless. Does anyone know what i could do to maybe bring it back? I dont want to take it apart as it could cause further problems... coule it be caused by dirt in the sliding area? I dont have any ideas. Any replies are very much appreciated!

If I were you I would bring it into an Apple store and have them take a look at it.
Make sure you make a Genius appointment before you go in.

I had the exact same thing happen to me just today. I made a call, put it away, pulled it out to check the time and it wouldn't turn on at all. I tried to reset, wall charge, computer charge (my computer won't even see that it's connected), everything with no response. Is there any way at all to fix this or do I have to send it in to be looked over?

Iphone 3gs keeps switching off during phone call showing apple logo

My iphone 3gs keeps switching of during phone calls. The apple logo appears and I have to wait until it switches itself back on, this happens without my help, any ideas please

Try restoring the iPhone. If a normal restore doesn't work, try setting it up as a new device.

My iPhone 3GS vibrates when I put the silent switch in ring mode.

What I remember the silent switch doing is when I put it in silent mode, an indicator icon would show on the screen indicating that sound is off and the phone would also vibrate.
Now, the indicator icons are still correct (no sound in silent mode, sound in ring mode), but the vibrating is switched. It vibrates when I put it in ring mode and doesn't when I put it in silent mode.

Nope, not jailbreak. On 4.3.3 firmware also.
Problem was in settings; vibrate on silent was turned off. Turned it back on and problem is fixed.

If you turn on the silent switch, alert sounds are off from the speaker. Downloaded/purchased apps with audio should be mute too.
Strangely, apps like Aurora Feint, Cannon Challenge and Fire Drop will play sound off the speakers. Other apps like Chopper, Pool, MotionX Dice, Blackjack 21 have muted audio. Even AOL Radio and the iPod feature will play sound off the speakers when the silent switch is on.
Shouldn't turning on the silent switch mute all audio coming out from the speaker?
Wonder if it's a software or hardware issue. Don't wanna do Software Restore until someone tries out the silent switch on and don't hear audio coming out from the speaker with the apps mentioned here.

Iphone 3gs not switching on or connecting to itunes

Hi my iphone 3GS will not go past the apple logo when switching on. Have tried to connect to itunes to do a restore but itunes not recognising my phone. It worked fine a few hours ago until I needed to turn it off. Any suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks

Let's see if we can isolate this issue further, I'd like you to try to restore your device with iTunes. If you are unable to do so, you may need to place the iPhone into recovery mode:

- Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.

IPhone 4 power switch total failure

Is it reasonable for my iPhone 4 to have a power switch total failure as a result of being kept for a few hours in a wet jeans pocket (during and just after walking through heavy rain shower). Is this product forseeable use or standard water damage insurance claim?

It is possible, if perhaps unlikely.
If your phone is still in warranty, consider setting up repair with Apple. If they reject the repair due to water damage, then you can pursue a claim with your insurance company.

Iphone 3GS with latest software upgrade - Not fully functional ?

I have recently upgraded the operating system on my iphone 3GS to the latest software, although some of the new functions work like the home screen files it seems that the new function of additional incoming text alerts (some 17 new ones) are not on the phone, I have tried to re-install the upgrade but itunes will not allow this to be done as it says its already running the latest version, any help would be greatly appriciated.

Can anyone help me determine if I just need to give up on my iPhone 3Gs, is it truly DEAD????

I'm REALLY hoping I get a response and some ideas or suggestions. Here's what happened and how my iPhone has been behaving. I need to know if I can salvage it and getting it working good enough for now, or if I need to just give up because its dead. My iPhone is a 3Gs that is roughly about 2 years old, and I have a Windows PC w/Windows 7 (if any of that makes a difference).
Situation: was at the beach, walking in the surf, iPhone in my hand. Wave surprised me from behind getting my iPhone wet. It was NOT completely submerged at any time, but it did get water on it.
Attempts to salvage: I vigorously shook it and tapped it upside down and right side up with a towel to get out as much moisture/water as I could and completely dried the outside of it.
iPhone behavior afterwards- screen went VERY dark, could not be brightened. Kept giving a message of "this device cannot be charged, charging accessorie not supported," or something similar. I tried to turn it off and restart, but was still the same. I tried pressing both buttons for a hard-reset, still the same.
Attempts to salvage: upon returning to camp, I placed the iPhone in a bowl of rice (made sure rice completely surrounded it) and left it there for 24 hours.
iPhone behavior afterwards- when I was able to power up the iPhone again, all I get is a BRIGHT white blank screen. However, I WAS able to salvage all the photos from our trip that I took- those transferred fine to my Window's PC.
Attempts to salvage: I charged the iPhone, I tried to hard-reset it again. I was able to back up everything that was on it, those transferred fine to my PC, and the iPhone connected and synced fine with iTunes. However, when I tried to restore it back to factory settings, in hopes that might make a difference, this is the error I got: "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (0XE800004)."
My next plan is to take the cover off to see if I can find anything there that "sticks out" so to speak, but I'm not exactly electronically savvy. If ANYONE can help me find a way to get this to work again, warranty has expired, I'm not currently with a cell phone carrier, and I can't afford any repair costs right now, much less be able to afford a replacement which is why its so important for me to get this working again. Thank you in advance for your help and/or suggestions.

You mean take the cover off of the iPhone, to look inside? I'd recommend against it. Even with warranty expired, you might qualify for an out-of-warranty service, which for 3GS is $149.
Other than that, any repair/service options are going to cost money. You might want to see if a wireless carrier will let you get a new contract & phone.
Out of curiousity, you're just using at as, basically, an iPod Touch, if there's no cell provider? Did I understand that correctly?

My iphone 3gs cnt switch from Wi-Fi to Data Network or viceversa

Whnver my phone goes out of my Wifi Network, it doesnt automatically switch to my Data Network. Every time i have to reset the network settings and then Iget the data connection activated. Its kinda weird.I am using a I phone 3gs and prblem I m facing started since i bought my Iphone on IOS 4.3 only.

Hi, I am facing a problem, the scenarios as i connect my iphone using my MBP, than it alert me with updating IOS, from my current version IOS 6 to IOS 6.1.2. After a series of downloading the update from iTunes, the phone restarted as normal process, and require me to connect my iphone to iTunes, so, i followed plugged in my usb to my MBP and connect the other end to my iphone. However, iTunes doesn't seems to recorgnize my device, it doen't shown any iphone been connected to my iphone and my iphone stil showing please connect to iTunes. Further, i tried to charge my iphone using charger, and it cannot be charge as well, it seems like my connector spoilt or the connector of my iphone got shut down during the process. I am seriously need help regarding this. Thank you.

Trying to backup iPhone 3GS to switch to 4S

I initially tried to transfer purchases and it kept freezing at the first app. So, I thought I would just go straight for the back up. The first part of the back up worked but then froze again, when it started trying to transfer apps.
I have the newest version of iTunes. The 3GS hasn't been updated to iOS5. I have shut down and restarted everything. Any idea what I should try next?

Oh and it is freezing on Facebook. An app that is already in iTunes.

IPhone 3GS has gone completely dead, after telling me to connect to iTunes, after trying to update the software.

My parents are about to recieve an upgrade to their contract which currently is an iPhone. They asked me to sync their iPhone to iTunes to save the settings, should they get an iPhone again.
When I tried to sync the phone, iTunes prompted a software update (this doesn't suprise me as they wouldn't see the need to connect it to the computer ever!)
Naturally, I accepted this update, only for an error to occr. (I didn't see this, my Dad said it happened but didn't note the error code down.)
Then, when I went to use the phone, it said on the screen, "connect to iTunes". On doing this, neither iTunes or the phone had no response. I set the iPhone into recovery mode to restore it from iTunes, and the phone flashed white for half a second and then cut out. I've had no response from it since, tried charging and leaving it plugged into the computer.
Any ideas?

Oddly, I've now fiddled with it a bit more, and I can manage to get the Apple logo up for a short time, but if I let go of the hold button it cuts out again.
If I continue to hold it, the logo turns into connect to iTunes. I do this, no response from iTunes.

Iphone 3GS not starting totally frozen

I tried with some answers given in the community like holding the sleep/wake and home button for 10 seconds, my battery was fully dead, whenever i connect to charge in AC it will start charging and shows the apple symbol and nothing more after that.
The phone staying at Apple symbol and not booting further.

Sometimes when a battery is completely flat in needs to be connected to the charger for a while before the phone becomes responsive again
what are you using to charge with? try a different cable or charger block

Iphone 4 wont switch on - dead.

My phone turn off by itself and wont switch on back again. I got this phone for 8 month and it's still in warenty, but I'm not in my country. I wonder if my warenty is worldwide and can I give it for repair here in U.A.E. somewhere?

I tried with home and power button and it started. Strange way to start a phone, remember me on pushing a car downhills in 2nd gear and releasing clouch to start engine back again when battery fails XD.
