IPhone 3Gs touchpad doesn't go away/too sensitive

One of the differences I've noticed between my 1G iPhone and the 3Gs is the behavior of the context-sensitive touchpad. On my 1G phone, when I put the phone up to my ear, the touchpad (either the phone keypad or the source/mute/hold buttons) would black out pretty quickly, and then if I brought it down in front of my face to access the touchpad, it would light up pretty quickly.
On the 3Gs phone, the touchpad seems to linger too long, and I find that if the numeric keypad is being displayed, whenever the screen rubs against my face, I end up sending an annoying dual tone to the party on the other end. Worse, if the source/hold/mute buttons are being displayed, I end up being on hold or on mute when I think I'm talking, and the remote party things I hung up on them or the call has dropped.
Has anyone else noticed this??

I've noticed that the 3G S screen is way more sensitive than both the original and the 3G. I have used the same leather pouch/slip case since the original iPhone and with it and the 3G, I'd just slide it it, and that was that. With the 3G S, I slide it in, and just the inside of the case touching it will make it dial a call, change songs when the iPod is on, etc! I've had to start turning it "off" before I put it in the case!!
That's my only issue with it though. I had zero activation or syncing problems as some are reporting. I'm McLovin' it so far!

    Hello,
I needed to do a hard reset on my iPhone 3GS and it's taking me too much time. It's taking almost 3 hours by now!!!!
I did it by going to "Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings", confirm it and then the iPhone turns off, gets the screen black with only the animated circle going on. And it's been there since then.
Is this a symptom of something bad? Should I do the hard reset by another way?

    Hello Ali Syed,
It sounds like your phone is stuck at the spinning gear icon on the screen after Erasing all Content and Settings on your device. I would start by resetting the device with this process:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists you may need to put the phone into recovery mode, and then restore it with iTunes as a new device:

  • If i restore and update my iphone 3gs would the unlock go away

i am not sure if my unlock on the iphone 3gs 4.3.3 will go away cause it is not factory restored but i want to restore without updating because it has some springboard problems

If by "not factory unlocked" you mean hacked, then it will most certainly remove the unlock, and no one on these forums can help you.

  • IPhone 3gs suddenly doesn't work as modem??

    Hello
I suddenly can not get online on my MBP with Leopard via a bluetooth connection to my iPhone 3gs. There is connection between iPhone and computer and the iPhone works as it should, internet sharing is enabled on the phone but the computer says that there is no connection to the Internet. I can go online when I'm home and using airport / broadband.
Is there anyone who can help?
    Henrik

Bluetooth does not allow you to transfer content onto your iPhone, as that would allow you to put any sort of stuff on there that you want. It would confuse the typical user way too much.
Instead, you load authorized content onto the iPhone using iTunes, and only using iTunes. This makes the iPhone easier to understand, and easier to use.
If you could load any old content on there, then you would be like Windows, with lots of viruses and other horrible user experiences.
Your best bet is to do it the Apple way and use iTunes. You can buy anything you need at the App Store.

  • IPhone 3GS not connecting with iTunes 10.1.1.4

    Hey all,
I'm having a rather peculiar problem. Recently I had to do a factory restore of my HP Pavilion dv6, and I proceeded to download the latest version of iTunes. Whenever I try to sync my iPhone 3GS, it doesn't show up. Yes, I've tried everything. Reinstalling, resetting, restarting, msconfig settings and whatnot, and nothing works. It appears in Windows 7 just fine, with the autoplay box popping up every time I connect it and Windows Explorer noting it down as a digital camera. iTunes will not read the device.
Every time iTunes connects, however, a message box appears saying that it cannot burn CD/DVDs due to the fact that the registry settings used by iTunes for doing so is missing, and caused by a possibility of other CD/DVD burners already installed.
So I removed all the preinstalled junk that HP threw on my comp, and there are no CD/DVD burners on my computer now. Yet the dialog box is still the same.
So are the two related? Are these registry settings that I'm missing preventing me from syncing my iPhone? And if so, how do I fix it? I'm very tech-savvy so complicated instructions will not be a problem (hopefully!). Cheers.

  • Hi. My iPhone 3Gs fell down the building from the 3rd floor.

Crazy right? I know. I will take it to Power Mac tomorrow but as of now, I was just thinking that maybe there's a way to turn it on.
THE screen didn't crack, that's amazing and no sign of scratches in the LCD/screen whatever.
My iPhone 3Gs didn't have any protector too. But it won't turn on! Is there a way to turn it on? I've tried the power button but still it won't open. I've tried rebooting it too but it won't turn on. Is there any other way?

The only way left would be connecting in recovery mode, explained here:
    iOS: Recovery mode
But I think your phone has other hardware problems due to the fall.

  • Help! I am giving away my iPhone 3Gs to my sister along with it's data plan, I want to delete my iCloud account on this phone, will delete my iCloud account too? And what about deleting my personal datas on iPhone, will it delete my data on iTunes?

Help! I am giving away my iPhone 3Gs to my sister along with it's data plan. I want to delete all of my personal data on my phone, will it delete my data on iTunes too? And same goes for iCloud; I want to delete my acount on my phone because, I guess this is a more convenient way to delete my personal data but I'm not sure if it will delete my iCloud account too or not because I'm getting an iPhone 4S and I'm hoping, the back up data like games & apps and music on my 3Gs will be transfered to 4S.
    Thanks!

All you have to do is this: Sync your 3GS to create a current backup. Then either: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings or restore it as a "New" device in iTunes. Both accomplish the same thing, erasing all of your data & settings from the phone. You can now give it to your sister, she can plug it into her computer, name it what she wants & sync her content to it. You then restore your 4S from the backup of the 3GS you created when you started. Follow this by syncing your content to your new phone & your 4S will look just like your 3GS.

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes

(Sorry for the length of this, but I want to make sure that I don't leave out anything that I've done.)
It all started last week when I installed Starcraft 2 on my Mac mini (the new one that came out in June 2010). Starcraft 2 crashed frequently due to the nVidia driver issues in 10.6.4, so the next day I re-installed OS X from the DVD that came with my computer to rollback to 10.6.3. Starcraft 2 worked better, but that's beside the point.
Later that day I noticed that iTunes didn't show my iPhone 3GS when it was connected (I have had zero problems with this since I got my Mac mini last month). (I'm using iTunes 9.2.1, by the way). I searched a bit, and found the instructions to Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224). I followed the instructions, and everything worked quite well.
At this point, I thought the problem was either due to my re-install of OS X or Starcraft 2 (I'm using a USB headset, which could somehow be related).
I was having other issues with Starcraft 2 at this point, so I decided to install Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. I did this, installed Starcraft 2, and played away.
When I rebooted into OS X, again I noticed that my iPhone wasn't showing up in iTunes. I started to follow the uninstall steps again, and this time I noticed that iTunesHelper wasn't running. It wasn't running because it wasn't in the list of login items to run when my account logs in. Since I was part way through uninstalling anyway, I continued with the process and then reinstalled iTunes. Once again, iTunes saw my iPhone fine. This time I also manually added iTunesHelper to my login items (I had to right click iTunes.app, Show Package Contents, navigate to iTunesHelper.app, and drag it into the list of Login items; I did check the Hide checkbox, since I recalled it being checked during the first uninstall).
It was a few days before I checked iTunes again (I rebooted a few times in here to play Starcraft 2 in Windows; note that I haven't ran Starcraft 2 in OS X since I installed Windows XP previously). However, once again my iPhone wasn't in iTunes.
Since I want to sync my iPhone today, I once again follow the uninstall iTunes process. This time, after installing it and verifying that my iPhone shows up in iTunes (again, I had to manually add iTunesHelper to my login items), I immediately rebooted and connected my iPhone. It didn't show up in iTunes (which I kind of expected at this point). I verified that iTunesHelper was indeed running.
I also tried connecting my wife's iPod touch (first generation), but it doesn't show up in iTunes either (not that I expected it to).
I've tried changing the USB port the dock connector is connected to, but that doesn't seem to matter. I did not change the port during the last reboot attempt, so I do not think that the port itself is bad. I have it connected to one of the ports on the back of the Mac mini, not to one of the ports on my keyboard. Also, my iPhone does charge when connected to this port even if iTunes doesn't recognize it.
At this point it sounds like the iTunes 9.2.1 installer doesn't do something that is required for the iPhone to be recognized by iTunes after a reboot, even though it sets things up properly right after installation. Based on the uninstall instructions, I compared the iTunes related files on my Mac with my wife's (a MacBook from early 2008, if that matters), and everything seems to be in place.
I've seen quite a few other posts here regarding issues with iPhones (and iPod touches) not showing up in iTunes, so apparently this is a common issue, but none of them seemed to help my problem.
Do you have any ideas of anything else I can try?
    Thank you very much!

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • I have an Iphone 3GS and the app for Facebook doesn't work anymore...

I have an Iphone 3GS and the app for Facebook doesn't work anymore since last update made yesterday.
How can I restore it without the last update?
Or, what can I do to have the Facebook back again on my mobile?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Ricoco,
I too had exact issue what you were experienced, then I went to Apple autorised service center and submitted my earpods, their it worked with all versions of Apple iphones, but it didn't worked on my 3gs. The service technician suggested for OS  upgrade. Then I came home and I took the backup and upgraded 5.1 to 6.1 as he suggested, also it didn't worked. I was totally frustated and suddenly I got an idea!. What a funny thing here is, a safety pin resolved my issue, I took out all dust which was there in the jack hole. Then I check my earpods, it was amazing you know..MY EAR PODS WORKED!.
If you still have this issue, I hope this will help you.

  • Why doesn't itunes work on iphone 3gs after IOS 5 update?

After upgrading Iphone 3GS to IOS 5 it does not connect to the Itunes store for updates. I am able to download apps from Icloud but when I try to update apps it gives me an error that it cannot connect to the itunes store.  I tried shutting down and restoring the phone. I went to settings went into the "store" logged in an out and still no luck. Does anyone have a fix for this? Please help.

Yes I have both, but I know a lot of times that wi-fi doesn't work with email. And it's all of my yahoo! accounts too. My gmail and iCloud works fine.

    Hello Kunmon,
The following article provides some useful troubleshooting that can help get your iPhone's camera working correctly.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • I gave my old iPhone 3gs to my friend. It had my contacts on it and when he erased some contacts it erased them on my phone too.

I gave my old iPhone 3GS to a friend after re-setting phone to the factory defaults. But obviously that didn't get rid of all my contacts, and when he erased them, they've been erased from my phone too. I have mine backed up in iTunes, so I can restore them, but how do I stop it happening again? Thanks for any help!
