IPhone 3GS undetected under "Devices" in iPhoto

My new 32GB 3GS iPhone is able to sync in iTunes, but in iPhoto, it doesn't even show up. I tried getting some of the photos off of the phone using the Image Capture and still no luck, it like it's not even attached. As soon as I hooked up my old 3G, it immediately appeared on the list. Is anyone else having the same problem? Any suggestions on a fix? Thanks in advance!

Hi Fongpi. What you want to do is this:
With your iPhone connected, open up the Image Capture application. It's a standard Mac app located in the Applications folder. After you open it, click on Preferences in the menu. This will allow you to select a default app to open when you connect your iPhone. Enjoy!

I can't get my iphone to appear under devices within itunes, my iphone appears as my ipod under devices therefore I am unable to sync my music etc onto my iphone. any suggestions???

iPhone 4S and Windows XP the first thing that jumps to mind is that the iPhone 4S needs a USB 2.0 connection to sync with iTunes. Check your computers user guide to see if the PC has a compatable USB 2.0 input.

  • After omitting my iPad 2 from my iPhone 3GS bluetooth paired devices and viceversa, I can't re-pair them again.

I had my iPad 2 (WiFi only, 64 GB) tethered to my iPhone 3GS via bluetooth to share internet. After turning bluetooth off to save battery and then on, they didn't link aymore, so I omitted the devices in each one another, but now I can't pair them again, they just don't show in the devices list of the other device.
I reset all the adjustments in the iPhone, but I only get in the found bluetooth devices a list of MAC addresses, none corresponding to the one of the iPad.
    iPhone has iOS 4.3.2 (8H7) and iPad 2, iOS 4.3.3 (8J2).
    Thanks,
    Enrique Celedón V.

Hello sallyally, I will explain what I did, perhaps some steps are not necessary:
    1. Turn bluetooth off in the iPad: Settings->General->Bluetooth->OFF
    2. Turn bluetooth on in the iPhone: Settings->General->Bluetooth->ON
    3. Share internet access in the iPhone: Settings->Personal Hotspot->ON
    4. Go to bluetooth in settings of iPhone: Settings->General->Bluetooth
    5. Turn bluetooth on in the iPad: Settings->General->Bluetooth->ON
    6. Both devices should find each other and show the same code, press ok or something like that and it is ready.
Let me know if it worked.

  • Importing pictures from Iphone 3gs to the Imac (using Iphoto?)

I recently bought an Imac 27". Everything is set up and updated and now I want to import the 2,500 photos I have on my iphone on to my mac. But Im having problems.
The Iphone synchronizes with Itunes fine. But under "pictures" If I check the box "synchronize pictures from Iphoto" (Maybe I shouldnt do this but I though I needed to to get the pictures from my Iphone to Iphoto" it gives me the message "Are you sure you want to synchronize pictures? all the pictures and albums on your Iphone will be replaced with pictures and albums from the current picturegallery"(roughly transelated)
I didnt do this since as I understand it this will cause me to loose all my 2,500 pictures I have on the Iphone.
When I open Iphoto it doesnt detect the Iphone at all.. No Iphone in the left menu at all. Image capture doesnt detect the Iphone either.
*So what can I do to get the pictures from my iphone on to my mac?*
The pictures in the camera roll are
    1. Pictures taken with the Iphone
    2. Pictures taken with another persons Iphone and that got sent to me
    3. Pictures taken with another persons mobile(not an Iphone( and that got sent to me
4.Pictures saved from the net from safari browser
    5. Pictures edited in Iphone apps and saved from the apps they where edited in.
if that info helps at all.. Im very confused now and I hopesomeone can help me out here. I though Iphone and Imac where supposed to be easy..

English is not my mother tongue but I will try to answer this the best I can from what I have understood..
The Iphone has synchronized with my pc previously and the apps I had on my Iphone then went to the Itunes I used on that computer.
I got the Imac yesterday and did synchronize the Iphone with the Itunes on the Imac wich caused me to loose over half of my applications and the one album I had on the Iphone. I have checked the boxes on everything so that Itunes synchronizes everything with the Iphone now, I guess this has nothing to do with backup but I thought I had to check the boxes for it to backup all of the things I want backup of.
When I open the adressbook program on the mac I can see my contacts there so I guess the backup is there then...
I dont really understand the Itunes content question.. I have no Itunes content no more except for the apps. I only had one album before wich was lost when I synchronized with the Imac.
The thing you talked about not syncing with an empty adressbook. you mean like after I have reset my Iphone so its blank I have to make a dummy contant before I connect it to the Imac and synchronizes the contacts? and choose merge instead of replace?
how do I actually format and reset the whole Iphone back to fabric condition? and after I have done that and connected it to the Itunes should I uncheck everybox in the sync options except contacts and then sync the Iphone?
After that I would assume I should delete the backup I have on Itunes from before I reset the Iphone so that all the pictures wont get put back in my Iphone?

  • IPhone 3GS - One portable device to do it all?

I want my 3gs iphone to:
    1. be a great phone
    2. be a great camera - a peep hole sight, flash, and movies
    3. connect my laptop online - wirelessly
    4. replace the talking GPS navigator in my car and have up to date maps.
Can the new 3gs iphone do all that?
Can another company's device do all that?
Seems like a no-brainer for one device to do it all!
    5. add be a great music box too, so one would not have to carry that around too.
    Daylight readable and waterproof?

if you want a great camera then get a great camera. there is NO phone on the market that is a "great" camera, even phones with higher megapixel cameras aren't great. there is no peep hole or flash but it's good enough for what it is = a camera feature on a phone. only the new 3G S can record video.
    3. connect my laptop online - wirelessly
it can connect wirelessly and do things such as VNC, remote control your itunes and sync contacts/calendars via mobileme BUT it can't sync music wirelessly.
    4. replace the talking GPS navigator in my car and have up to date maps.
not out of the box but TomTom will be coming out with a turn by turn navigation software.
    5. add be a great music box too, so one would not have to carry that around too.
it's the best on the market
    Daylight readable and waterproof?
yes you can read it in the daylight but it is an electronic device and is not waterproof. i think there are water resistant cases on the market but i don't know how they work with the touch screen.

  • Itunes iphone not there under devices

In fact, the whold "device" catagory isn't there. I need to sync my itunes. I am set up on manuel sync b/c I don't want all of my music synced

I am having the same issue in iTunes. My iPhone no longer shows up in devices in iTunes (however, it does show up in Aperture). No dice on both of my G5s. This is all started when I unsuccessfully tried to upgrade to Leopard. "Downgraded" back to Tiger 10.4.11, reinstalled iTunes, still no luck. Tried everything in the Apple tech document for troubleshooting, but still nothing. Reset the phone, lost a bunch of my personalization, but no big deal. Always plugged directly into USB port on the G5s. This is frustrating, I can understand these kinds of issues with third-party stuff, but not Apple-branded hardware/software. It is supposed to just work -- period.
    Is my iPhone hosed?

  • Videos shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't getting imported into iPhoto

Videos I've shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't importing into iPhoto - but the photos are. Noticed this a few weeks ago, believe it occurred as a result of my migration from my old MBP to my new one in mid Jan of this year. Did a rebuild of iPhoto, killed the iPod Photo Cache, to no avail. I had been noticing an issue during the sync process, toward the end, I'd get some message that the "iPhone file 'iPhone' can't be found. Googled and saw that I should kill the iPod Photo cache and turn off "manually manage music and videos." This fixed the "file iPhone not found" issue. I killed all the photos and videos in my camera roll (none show up when I select iPhone in the iPhoto window - so a remaining corrupted photo isn't the issue) and then took a photo and video. The photo imports but not the video. Ideas?
Also, another question, If I go back to manually managing music and videos, then go back to the iPhoto tab in iTunes and select which albums from iPhoto to sync back to my iPhone, is it possible to sync videos (originally shot on my iPhone) back to my iPhone? I want to create an album in iPhoto titled "iPhone Videos."

Thanks for your reply, Graham. I actually solved it last night after 3 hours of fiddling with it. Cleared the photos out of my iPhone, cleaned up and reorganized my photos in iPhoto (deleted & recreated albums), deselected and reselected "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes, deleted iPod Photo Cache (again), rebuilt my iPhoto database and something out of this mix worked.
Something interesting happened when I opened iTunes (w/ iPhone docked) - it asked me to select my photo library (or something to that effect). When I selected "iPhoto Library" it gave me a dialog box saying this isn't the the library that was being synced (not the exact words, but close). I went ahead with it. The weird thing is that the library I selected is my only one - the one I've always used, so not sure what's up with that. Anyway, something worked. Photos and videos are all in the right place. Videos are also now syncing to iPhoto from my iPhone.

  • Will Apple update iPhone 3GS to allow music uploads to other devices?

I have read that the iPhone 3GS can only receive music files from iTunes and is not capable of uploading that content to other devices.
Most computers or integrated car stereo HDD's can receive uploads from other devices that use flash drives or USB cables, so why did Apple not add this feature? Does anyone know if they ever will add that feature?
P.S. I'm not referring to transferring purchased music either, I am well aware of how to do that, I'm referring to transferring audio files from the iPhone 3GS to other devices via USB/Bluetooth/Apps or some equivalent...

No one on these user forums can say what Apple will do.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • MY IPHONE 3gs will not restore?

My Iphone 3gs suddenly turned itself off and then came back on saying 'Authorization required'.  After constant turning on and off it came back exactly the same each time, 'Authorization Required'.  When I tried to restore on Itunes it went into recovery mode and now it will not restore at all? It comes up with a message saying 'Unknown Error -1'. can this be fixed? Am annoyed as this is my fourth Iphone 3gs in under a year!

Here is what this error can be about:
    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • IPhone 3GS will not update or restore

Got my iphone 3gs replaced under warranty, the new iphone will sync everything as normal, however it will not restore, also when i press check for software update i get this message:
"the iphone software update server could not be contacted."
"make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
i have tried putting into recovery mode and dfu mode via the wake/sleep button & the home button, but i get no joy i get same message.
i have tried uninstalling and disabling my firewall no luck there
i have tried everything everybody else has tried and still no luck.
    i un-installed itunes and re-installed with latest version 9.2.1.5.
i also tried updating itunes via help then update and i got following message:
"the itunes server could not be contacted. please check your internet connection, or try again later".
this has been happening since yesterday since i tried to put iphone in dfu mode, cos on the net i found a few people saying if you put in dfu and do a full firmware update it wipes everything off iphone, then restore via itunes back up and you should get better battery life and performance using the IOS4.
now on my other iphones i had, 3g and iphone 4, these features worked perfectly, i am now very cheesed off and can't even restore normally let alone in dfu mode.
since getting the replacement 3gs it is the first time i have checked these features so i don't know if it could be the iphone itself.

Its now working, i think it had something to do with talk talk and apple.

  • Difficulty importing from iPhone 3GS

Forgive me if this is a repeated topic...
I have a first-gen MacBook Pro, running iPhoto 6 and OS 10.6.6. Anytime I try to import photos from my iPhone 3GS (running OS 4.2), iPhoto will import a few pictures and then freeze and not import any more.
I read somewhere that the problem may be with photos stored on my iPhone that did not originate there. Is this what is causing the problem and if so, how do I easily tell which ones those are? There's currently almost 2000 photos stored on my iPhone, all but which a handful I've taken myself.
    Thanks for your help!

    1. iPhoto will only try to import pictures in the Camera Roll on the phone. The fact that you have all those others should not affect it
    2. Try using Image Capture to do the import. If that works, then the problem is with iPhoto; if not, it appears the problem is with the phone. Also, if it works, you can then import those pics from your hard disk into iPhoto

  • How to get an iPhone 3GS recorded video back on the iPhone

Okay so when you import the video taken with the iPhone 3GS they are saved into iPhoto. Is there a simple way to have them sync back to the iPhone. Seems iPhoto can't sync them back.
I know you can drag the video file into iTunes and do it that way. But there really needs to be a simple way like syncing photos
    any ideas

no real solution. guess it's to save space. apple needs to add this option to iphoto

  • Will the iPhone 3gs ios be updated in some way in future?

As the plans disclosed on june 10, 2013 at the apple developer conference indicated that iOS7 will not be available for the Ipad and iPhone 3gs will these devices be kept up-to-date. I.e. IOS updates in some way?

No one here knows what Apple will do with respect to updates on earlier products. The original iPad is already limited to iOS 5.1.1 and cannot be updated to iOS 6. Some early models of iPhone cannot be updated to iOS 6.
Apple has published that iOS 7 will run on iPhone 4 and later, the iPad 2 and later and the fifth generation iPod. Apple also stated that not all features of iOS 7 will work on all devices.

  • IPhone 3GS Different Battery Prob + Guarantee on Insurance Claim New Phone?

    Summary of Problem:
Full battery to Zero battery when charging
Full battery to Zero battery and back again when in use
Battery indicator confused constantly by large amount
Is there a guarantee on my replacment phone?
    Hi,
I recently accidentally damaged my iPhone 3GS and under my insurance was sent a brand new one. The problem I had was it restarted itself 3 times a day since the first day I had it but I put this down to a software issue that might be sorted in an update. Then all of a sudden the phone gets confused about how much battery level it thinks it has, also quite often when I charge it it will suddenly turn off (as it thinks it has no battery even if it's 50% full) and I have to wait half an hour for it to turn on while it charges to 5% but then it will do it again. If I don't touch it it will usually charge ok.
Other times I could be out and when using my phone it gets to 68% then battery icon changes to 0% and it shuts off, then when turned back on it's back to 68% again and works. It's very annoying as it does this often (tho most commonly around 68%) it's most annoying when using the GPS in the car, I have 50% battery but put it on charge while I use it and after a few minutes it thinks it's dead and restarts then charges up from 0% again. This has got to be a battery cell problem surely?
The problem is that they have said that because my old phone was 15 months old, the new one has no guarantee so im basically screwed! I don't see why I should pay £10 a month for over a year for insurance to then be charged a £25 claim excess fee and be sent a faulty phone that they won't replace or repair.
Is anyone else having this restart when charging issue? Should I have at least a 3 month guarantee against manufacturer faults on this new replacement phone?
    Thanks for your help
    Rob

You will need to take this up with your insurance company. They should replace the phone since they sent you a defective phone.
I know that if Apple does a warranty replacement, the replacement comes with at least a 90 day warranty. I don't know what the policy is concerning phones replaced by an insurance company.
