Iphone 3gs updates

Dears,
I have a Problem. while updating my iphone 3Gs to the new IOS
it's switched off during update process.
while trying to restart it. it doesn't start just stuck in the apple logo screen then restart again and so on
     Please help.
Thanks
Ashraf

Finally I managed to fix it by not unchecking 'Sync Podcasts' as I had done previously, but by changing the syncing rule, then unchecking 'Sync Podcasts', syncing, rechecking 'Sync Podcasts', syncing again, then reversing the syncing rule.

iphone 3gs- updated to the ios 5.0.1... since then i plugged it into itunes, an now my phone restarts itself every 3-4 minutes!!! it so annoying! its useless, i cant do anything with it. restored it 4 times and its still doing it!!! please help!!!
i contacted o2 and they said id have to pay to get it fixed after sending it away for ten days if their was a fault, when im still under warranty!! contacted apple who will get back to me!

I am assuming you updated to version 5.1.1, not 5.0.1 since no legitimate version of 5.0.1 is available.
Where is this iPhone from and what means did you use to unlock it?

  • My iphone 3GS updated itself to ios 6 and never started to work

My iphone 3GS updated itself to ios 6 & then things went absurd.
iphone kept restarting after showing apple logo. The issue continued even after a complete restoration. Apple service now says firmware got corrupted and so I have to pay 9500Rs (200$) and get a phone replacement of the same model. And there is no other solution.
Can anyone give any other solution or else is it worth to get it replaced for 9500Rs.
I have spend money for no real hardware issue and apples improper firmware methodology and updates...

This is what I posted to someone else having the same issue:
I having the same issue about the and iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be  restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could  not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.". I've had the  iPhone  3GS since it came out. It was working fine until I just tried to  update  it. It has NEVER been hacked or jailbroken. WE AND A FEW OTHERS are  having  the same issue then it is more than likely that this is an  update issue.  I took mine to the Apple store and the tech tried to  update it and he came to the same problem and told me he couldn't  update it. My assumption is that we are not the only one's with this  issue and that if  there was a way to update it to the update before  this last one it  might be a solution. I don't know how to get the  previous update. Apple  probably is aware of the problem, and hasn't  come up with a solution yet. Or, enough people haven't complained yet.  The tech suggested that  there might be something wrong with the phone  itself, but that couldn't  be since it was working perfectly before I  updated it and others are  having the same issue. It is highly unlikely  that a lot of people are having the same hardware issue all of a  sudden at the same time. Apple/iTunes needs to fix this... and hopefully soon
Also:  I can update or restore my iPhone 5 and other iPhones so it is not an  issue with my firewall or other software on my computer. No one touches  my iPhone or my computer they are secure, locked all the time, and I  have no jailbreak software on my computer (Apple tried it and they are  clueless at the moment from what I can tell).

  • IPHONE 3GS UPDATE PROBLEM! PLEASE HELP!!

I went to update my iphone 3gs. an error popped up froze my phone and now it says i must factory reset my phone.....i do not want to clear my phone! it will not even attempt to connect to itunes without the restore! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

cjkeith, you've every right to be frustrated, but now you're coming across as well, let's just say "unsmart".
First, what on earth does paying 500.00 for a phone and thousands of dollars in other apple products have to do with anything?
Second, do you think any of us care about your idle threat to save your money and buy a non-Apple product?
Third, and what makes you seem the most "unsmart" is your last statement.  We're not Apple here on this user to user technical support forum.  We're users just like you!  So your last statement is just so ridiculous.
It's always easier to place the blame for our own misfortunes on someone else, rather than take responsibility for our own action.  As Dr. Al stated, you learned a lesson the hard way.
    Time to move on.

  • Iphone 3gs updated and now won't activate

Recently got iphone 3gs second hand and when I updated it on itunes via computer, it says it can't be activated because the 'server is temporarily unavailable' and on itunes on the computer it says the sim cant be recognised.. What do I do? Tried updating through wifi too, also says server isn't available.

  • Just bought Iphone 3GS updated it but cannot activate??

Hi I have recently bought an Iphone 3GS on EBay (advertised as unlocked) I connected it to Itunes and updated it to 6.1.3 now I cannot activate it.
Is there a way I can access the phone at all to get the EIME number as I know that support will ask for that when i contact them.
    HELP

If you purchased a phone on Ebay advertised as unlocked, then it has probably been jailbroken to unlock it which is why it won't activate.
Not a lot you can do now so think on!

  • IPhone 3GS update to IOS 6 problem

I recently received an iPhone 3GS (32gb) from a friend, and updated it to IOS 6.1, after the update, i tried to turned it on and went through the setup, but when it got to the activation part it couldn't activate, i got this message "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to active it, or try again in a couple of minutes" when i connect it to iTunes i get this message "We are unable to continue with your activation at this time" any help would be grateful, Thanks.

The behavior you're describing would occur with a jailbroken or hacked iPhone.  If it was ever jailbroken or hacked, it is now permanently "bricked".

  • IPhone 3GS - Update Failure. Multiple Errors.

    iPhone: 3GS
    Purchased: 12/2009
    OS: XP Pro 64

-Clicked Update to bring my firmware to 4.2.1. Error 1403.
-Clicked Restore to bring back my new brick. Error 3194.
-Held home+power to bring to DFU Recovery.

    -Uninstalled iTunes+Apple related software. Reinstall.
-Manually Downloaded 3.1.3, attempted to shift+restore: Error 3194.

-Switched USB ports, shift+restore to 4.2.1. Error 1601.
    -DFU Recovery
    -Shift+restore to 3.1.3. Error 3194.
As you can tell, I've been banging away at this for a little while. It's not working. When the shift+restores fail to update, I get white screened on my iPhone 3GS. I can't bring my phone back to the original settings, I can't update it.
I've restarted my computer in here a few times, switched USBs etc. Any advice as to what I'm doing wrong?
    *EDIT*
Note, most of these errors occur on verify with Apple, the shift+restore to 4.2.1 fails while preparing.

The 3194 error appears to have something to do with the digital signature of the OS file that you downloaded. I found this "fix" that people use to downgrade their OS, no reason why it shouldn't work for the upgrade too.
    * 1) First navigate to “c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\” and open the ‘hosts’ file in notepad. To do so, right click on the file and select Open With->Notepad. At the end of the document, add this string “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com”.
    * 2) Now connect your iPhone to iTunes in recovery mode. To do so, first switch off your device. Then press the Home button on your handset and connect the USB cable. As soon as you connect the USB cable, the device will boot up and a “Connect To iTunes” screen will be displayed. Users can now stop pressing the Home button.
    * 3) Fire up iTunes now. You will see your iPhone/iPod Touch detected in recovery mode. Now, whilst pressing the Shift key for Windows users or Alt key on the Mac platform, click on the Restore option.
    * Now just select the original OS x.x.x and voila, you are done. Now you can again enjoy OS x.x.x on your iTouch device.

  • Iphone 3GS update went wrong - plugging in via USB causes instant PC crash

I have (had) an iPhone 3GS, working well. I decided it was time to do a sync, and an update was suggested. A back up seems to have been created from the sync (visible in itunes), however there were messages afterwards that my PC had recovered from a serious error. The update became a restore and update, and I was given the choice to restore to my backup. This process appeared to go well enough, though at the end my PC kept crashing and trying to reboot but as long as my iPhone was connected via USB the PC could not reboot.
Furthermore, a whole stack of info from my iPhone (all texts, all notes, around 600 out of 800 photos, settings, apps etc) has disappeared.
Now every time I try to connect my iPhone to my PC it instantly crashes. Other things (eg headphones) still work in the same USB ports (I've tried multiple, front & back).
I can see an itunes backup was created, but cannot connect to itunes on my PC to ascertain if there is any more data from the back up (namely my notes & photos). Any suggestions from similar experiences would be most welcome!

    Success.
After a bit of a dig around google searches, it seems there's some sort of glitch between Apple and Logitech webcam device drivers.
I removed the Logitech drivers, and voila! iPhone no longer causes instant meltdown of pc.
My question now then, how do I work out if my incomplete restore can be turned into a complete restore? I was game enough to hit the restore button in itunes and it only gave me the option of returning to original settings, thus erasing what is currently on there. I cancelled that move!
I would like what I have (all contacts, at least!) plus the disappeared old stuff (pics, notes, texts would be nice)...
Am i right in understanding that iTunes will only keep one backup and any subsequent ones will replace the previous one? I'm nervous that if I backup what i have there now, it will replace a good backup that I really might be able to restore in full.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • HT4623 my iphone 3gs updated, but the phone can not activate.

This was an update on iphone 3GS to the ios6.  Everything downloaded well but stuck at the activation part.
I've tried several times but it keeps saying it can not activate at this time, even with itunes.  Any suggestions??
    thanks

That is the reason your iPhone will not activate any longer.
Next time, I strongly suggest never hacking or jailbreaking an iPhone.

  • IPhone 3Gs update to 3.2.1 error causes phone to freeze permanently

    Happy new year everyone.
I was updating my bosses iPhone 3Gs 32GB model to the latest 3.2.1. It’s a job I have performed on the same computer with all the other iPhones of the company since I’m the IT Administrator, without a problem. Anyway. ITunes downloaded the update, decompressed it, backed up the phone and it was about to update it. During the update a message popped up saying the update could not be completed due to an unknown error. I clicked ok and looked at the iPhone. The iPhone was displaying the connect to iTunes screen (the one with the iTunes logo on top end the usb cable with the arrow pointing at the logo). No matter what I do this screen is al that it shows.
I tried pressing the home button to cause it to quit. No response.
I tried pressing the sleep button to shut it down. Screen cause black only to turn on after a while showing the same screen again.
I tried to reset the phone. Screen goes black, apple logo appears and immediately the connect to iTunes screen again.
I disconnected the USB from the iPhone and reconnected it. The PC does the sound that some USB device has connected, the last.fm software detects the iPhone. Itunes does not see the phone at all.
I restarted the PC, did all of the the above and still nothing. The same screen shows on the iPhone.
I could use some help. Thanks in advance.

the first time you've tried to do the restore or the update itunes had to make a backup so if i'm not wrog at the end of the restoring itunes will ask you if you want to configure your phone as new or with the back up ... i think..

  • 4.3.3 **LOCKED* Rogers iPhone 3GS, updated + restored to 4.3.5 with Rogers SIM in, "SIM card not supported"...

    Hey guys....
I just recently encountered a strange issue which no makes sense.
I have a 16GB Black iPhone 3GS **LOCKED** to Rogers, never been unlocked, was given to me by Apple as a replacement.
It was on 4.3.3 and was getting a little slow so I decided to do an update + restore to 4.3.5.
After the restore and update, iTunes gave me the "the SIM card inserted into this phone does not appear to be supported" error... so I can't get past the emergency call screen.
I tried restoring in DFU and with diff comps PLUS diff Rogers SIM cards and no dice.
Also tried restoring with/without SIM card in during restore.
Any ideas on how this has happened and how I can fix it?
It's no longer under warranty so I know I can't go to the Genius Bar, even though technically it's their faulty phone...

I would still take it to the Genius Bar and see what they say.  Worst case scenario, since it's out of warranty, they'll offer you an out of warranty exchange, which will roughly be 200 Canadian dollars.

  • HT4623 iphone 3gs update

I have a iphone 3gs and i am unable to update it over the air because i am not getting software update option in general menu and when i download it via itunes it stops in between and says that an error has occured. please help

    That's because you have a 3G, NOT a 3GS.
4.2.1 is the end of the line for that old bird.

  • Iphone 3GS update to iOS4.3.3 - stucked at unlock screen

    Hi,
I got a 1.5 year old iphone 3GS which I updated to iOS 4.3.3 last week. Everything was fine with the restore process, got all my data, apps and music back on the Phone.
However 1-2 days after the update the iPhone went into a endless loop when trying to type in your unlock code. Actually the screen jitters a little bit, no keys are accepted, you can see the "activity wheel" spinning in the background, the only way out is reset.
I am not finished testing all possibilities (i.e restore again without any new apps, remove SIM card, remove unlock code, stop all background apps..) but I am surprised to find such a severe bug where I cannot be sure about a SW or HW bug??
    Anyone else with this error?
    Cheers, Emilia

Found the culprit by myself. Out of some reason the database for old SMS messages got corrupted. I could not send any SMS and any message coming in crashed the phone
Another new backup restore resolved the issue.
