Iphone 3gs volume bar

I have a 3GS. I am having problems with my volume bar, like on iPod or YouTube. When I try adjusting the volume, the little ball on the bar slides with my finger, but it bounces right back where it was before after I remove my finger. I did restore the phone, but it showed up after a day or so.I tryied to restore and set new iphone,same result. Anyone have this problem? Any advice?
I cant go to apple service and i cant use any service , its complicated so please dont tell me to do so.

I have the exact same problem! My iPhone 3gs is only 3 weeks old and has latest software but the volume bar is doing my head in. It's ok with the apple supplied headphones but with other headphones and small battery powered speakers the volume bar won't adjust properly.
You can drag it with your finger but it bounces back to the approx same place when you let go? The buttons on the side do adjust the volume but the increase or decrease in volume per push/click seems larger than normal.
The only way i've found to get the volume bar working again is to turn off and on the phone.
Someone clever please tell me why it's doing this. :os

Hello, I need help in fixing my volume buttons. When I try to play music via outer speaker it fails. I can't see the volume bars. However I can hear my ringtone and I'm able to listen to songs using headphones plugged in. Or if use my external speaker docked in. As soon as I take out I stop hearing the music from phone speaker. I tried asking one for help, he told me could be "dock short/shock?" Thàt I have to change. I'm using iPhone4s.hopefully one can help me out. Thank you

IPhone 3GS - volume controls working but actual volume stays the same

My iPhone 3GS has been exhibiting a strange phenomenon for the last couple of days. The volume in my heaphones is fixed. I can use the volume control buttons or the on screen slider just fine, they're responsive in terms of animation (the buttons show the increasing/decreasing number of white squares and the slider allows me to move the dot and the blue line extends accordingly), but the actual volume only changes when I'm using the speaker, but not when I'm using the headphones. The only actual volume control I have using the headphones is sliding the volume down to zero, which also produces a loud click in the headphones.
The issue is system-wide and as such affects all apps, including Spotify, iPod, VLC, various games and other music/video apps.
The headphones in question are brand new and work fine with other equipment. I've also tried with other headphones, with no change.
Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I've restarted the phone. I've contemplated reset/restore, but I wanted to check if anyone knows of a less time-consuming solution.

No, that's not it.
The volume is not locked using the Volume limit, and even if it were, that wouldn't explain why it's fixed at one (rather loud) level. The volume limit function is just there to limit the upper bounds, not set it to a constant level.

My 3GS volume button fell off. It costs alot to fix it since they got to take it apart.
I was thinking of adding glue to put it back. Has anyone done this? Any good suggestions on which glue to use?

I would recommend an out of warranty repair or a 3rd party repair company and NOT glue.

After updating to ios 4.2.1 my iphone volume has lowered to much extent.
Now it is hardly audible. And please don't tell me to check volume limit because it is already off.
Keyboard clicks are hardly audible.
iPod volume has also lowered.
Volume of every application is too silent.
SO please help me out of this.

I had the same problem and tried to change to a different languge and then back to english and as soon as I did that my volume limit is back to its highest level as before so it worked for me. Worth trying guys! Hope it works for you cos I know it didn't work for some.

Hi, could someone tell me if it is possible to disasble the volume switch for a short time? I am trying to use Nike+, but the armband that i am using, when i move my arms it alters the volume. Is there anything thats simple to do on the iphone, or should i just get a new armband. Any help would be appreciated.

No, there is no setting to control that. Your best bet is to get a different arm band.

Apple does not repair devices beyond replacing the screen on some models or a battery replacement. They replace the ENTIRE device.
For the Out of Warranty replacement cost, you could have gotten a fully functional replacement device. Instead you chose to spend less to get only the screen replaced and continue to live with additional issues.

Have you taken the steps recommended in the User Guide--restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new?

Please help... I took my iPhone 3GS to the Genius Bar on Monday because my volume won't work at all on any part of my phone. They said it was dust in my ports and they blew some air in the ports and it worked again. Unfortunately, it didn't last. I certainly didn't get my phone dusty. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks

IPhone 3GS Audio Volume Decrease After iOS 5 Update

The Audio/Volume on my iPhone 3GS has Decrease SIGNIFICANTLY After iOS 5 Update. Oddly, the volume of the ring is fine, and as lout as it used to be, and as loud as all other audio should be, but when using any 3rd party applications, the volume output is significantly less (about 40% less) than it used to be.
I am NOT the only person to experience this problem. Apparently, the issue has been around since this past summer, when iOS was still being developed / tested. There is a post about someone experiencing the same issue, here:

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.

My iPhone 3GS has no volume for "clicks" and does not show volume unless the earphones are plugged in. I get the message that This accessory is not optimized for iPhone. Any fixes out there?

I thought my problem might be in the connecting area. The error message pops up when there is nothing connected to the phone. There is no way to adjust volume because the phone seems only to recognize the ringer and will not show volume bars at the base of the bell that appears when adjusting volume. When I have the earphones plugged in, there is a volume slider that appears, but disappears when I pull the earphones out. The clicks I have referred to are those that one hears when typing in a text message or entering a phone number to dial. I have no "sound effects" at all. The phone will ring with my ringtone and I can hear a caller. I can't hear music from the iPod unless the headphones are plugged in.
Is this dirty or damaged connector fixable or do I need a new phone?

I have an iPhone 3GS and the volume keeps going all the way down once I plug the headphones in. Before this started happening the volume would go all the way up. Before that even started happening the phone would repeatedly try to shut itself off and I had to keep pressing Cancel.
I did buy the phone off of eBay used, to try and go on a prepaid contract once my current contract ends. On the case itself, there are some minor scuffs and such, it does look like it was opened at a time. It still works perfectly, except for the volume glitch right now. Is there an app that controls the volume to keep it from going all the way down?. People say in forums and such to tighten the screws on the bottom (which I tried), and to also open the phone and see if there is anything blocking the volume control thing (like dust or anything) but I'm afraid to try that with the risk of causing further damage. I downloaded the new IOS 6 on my IPhone 3Gs as it prompted me to do so. so that took 45 mins then told me to connect to Itunes in which i did, then it took 39 mins for itunes to "restore" my phone and after the 39 mins it told me Apple unable to restore IPhone and shut me out. Next a screen popped up on my computer screen and said that i could report the problem to Apple if i wanted to. But at this point my phone is completly locked out. So all i get from my phone right now is the Apple on the screen and the download bar under it and or a block screen if i unplug it and the battery dies. which when i did the upgrade my phone was just off a fresh charge! i need help like ASAP i leave out of town on thursday it is monday and i need a phone with GPS and that can make calls! i am pregnate and have a 2 year old i am traving with and we have no house phone so my phone is very important!
