Iphone 3gs will not sync

I have iTunes on both my laptop and desktop (both running Windows).  In the last month and a half, anytime I connect my iPhone to either, my phone shows up, but it will not sync.  It says that the computer has previously been synced with another iPhone or iOS device.  I don't want to restore a backup from August 11 and lose everything I've done on my phone since then.  Can anyone help?

I have the same issue.
My Laptop doesnt recognise my iPhone 3gs at all. It doesnt register it as a storage device or in iTunes.
Ive updated iTunes and still nothing, I will get onto customer services when I get a chance.
If anyone has any answers then please tell all!

  • FIXED (for me at least): iPhone 3gs will not sync with Gateway NV79

I’ve spent months trying to fix this miserable problem with getting my iPhone 3gs to sync with my new Gateway NV79. Gateway will not help. Their technical support is genuinely worthless. Microsoft blames Apple and Apple blames Gateway.
My old iPod Nano syncs to my Gateway NV79 without a problem. I’ve tried all of the proposed fixes but other posters with no success.
But I do believe I’ve discovered a real fix (for me at least). Here’s my setup:
    • Gateway NV79 running Windows 7 64 bit edition
    • iTunes 10
    • iPhone 3gs running OS 4.02
The USB ports needs tweaking to get the iPhone 3gs to sync to the Gateway NV79. Follow these steps without your iPhone 3gs connected to the Gateway NV79:
Step 1: Go to Control Panel
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Click Hardware & Sound
    3. Click Power Options
    4. Make sure Balanced is selected and click Change Plan Settings
    5. Click Change advanced power settings
    6. Expand USB Settings
    7. Expand USB selective suspend setting
    8. Change On Battery setting to Disabled.
    9. Change Plugged in setting to Disabled
    10. Click OK
Step 2: Go to Windows Explorer
    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Right-Click Computer (not your computer name)
    3. Click Properties
    4. Click Device Manager
    5. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    6. Right-click first Generic USB Hub
    7. Click Properties
    8. Click Power Management
    9. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
    10. Click OK
    11. Right-click second Generic USB Hub
    12. Click Properties
    13. Click Power Management
    14. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
    15. Click OK
    16. Restart your computer
After your computer restarts, login and connect your iPhone.
You must complete both steps. Step 1 is required for Step 2 to stick.
There are a few things that may happen. iTunes may start syncing immediately and fail with an error. Don’t worry. If the sync fails the first time, restart the computer with the iPhone still connected. Now, iTunes will either take you to setup screen to connect your iPhone or the sync may restart. In my case, the setup screen came up and I DID NOT CHOOSE TO RESTORE. Pick the first option to add your iPhone. The sync will restart and may or may not finish. Don’t worry, if the sync fails, restart your computer again with the iPhone still connected and this time the sync will work.
Here’s the problem: the iPhone 3gs will not sync with the power management enabled for the USB ports on the Gateway NV79.
    Good luck.

If you cannot update your computer, you will not be able to sync your phone. The requirements are:
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access

  • IPhone 3Gs will not sync/charge on my mac OSX 10.4.11

My new iPhone 3Gs will not sync/charge on my mac OSX 10.4.11, but will charge on my friends OSX 10.6.7, what do I do?

Call AppleCare and ask them if they still have an available copy or check on Amazon, eBay, etc. If your computer will support it you will be better off buying a retail copy of Snow Leopard instead.

  • Iphone 3Gs will not sync to itunes

My iPhone 3Gs will not sync to my iTunes on my PC.  I updated to the new iOS software 6.1.3 to see if that made a difference and it did not.  Any help would be appreciated.

Tim, it was going through the motions but when it went to sync to songs it completed the process in less than 5 seconds.  And I have over 1700 songs I was trying to sync.  ooops !!    I just figured it out right after I posted the above post.  When on the "Summary" tab down at the bottom it was checked "only sync checked songs" .  Once I unchecked it, it started syncing fine.  SORRY !  :-)

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch does not appear under Devices in iTunes after you connect it to your Mac, refer to the troubleshooting suggestions below.
    Resolution
Note: This article is for Mac OS X users. If you are using a Windows PC, please refer to iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows.
To begin troubleshooting this issue on your iOS device, first follow the steps in the appropriate troubleshooting assistant below:

    Restart your Mac.
Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier only: Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service.
    Additional Information
In rare circumstances, your device may be recognized after reinstalling iTunes, but after you restart your Mac, the device may not be recognized again. If this happens, and you are using Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard), please follow the steps in this article.

  • IPhone 3GS will not sync calendars because the sync server failed.   Just installed Outlook 2010.  Is there a fix for this?

My iPhone 3GS could not sync calendars to the iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone.    Just installed Outlook 2010.   Is there a fix for this?

I am simply lookig for some help not an argument.  I am not an RF specialist however have setup a few wireless networks in my tenure at Wynn Resorts.  I fully agree that wireless networking is an art and a science however the powers that be in Network Land have toughted wireless networking is the easiest and quickest way to get two computers to talk with one another.  As I previously said I have already turned one (1) MBP in for this problem and Apple decided to replace it because they could not fix the problem with my particular MBP.  This MBP was running Leopard when the problems started
I am having a hard time believeing that there are several other devicces in my home that depend on a wireless network to operate and my MBP is the only one having an issue.  I took this a step further and decided to see what would happen if I tried to connect wirelessly via Fusion.  In Windows 7 I am able to print and scan to my hearts content without any issues.  I am able to browse the internet as much as I want.  I close Fusion and try to connect to my printer via wireless and nothing.
In order to get Apple to help do I need to get a Network Analyzer and capture packets when I have these problems?  Out of the 1000 + posts is there a consolidation of which answer is the best?  BTW I am accessing the internet via a wireless connection using Fusion and Windows 7.
In response to Linc's comments, I will look at the router specifications however I did not qualify that these devices are not using the wireless connection at the same time.  Right now I would guess there are maybe two (2) or three (3) at the most that are actively transmitting / receiving information. --  Thanks

  • Iphone 3gs will not sync with itunes copied from external hard drive.

We transferred itunes from an external hard drive to a new laptop pc, after copying it from our old desktop.  I connected a new iphone 3gs on the laptop (first iphone on any of our computers), and itunes does not recognize the iphone, so it does not sync.  Is there any solution to this problem?

did you copy the itunes folder from my music? and any other folder your music files might have been in.
Another folder to copy is user/appdata/roaming/apple computer

  • My Iphone 3gs will not sync to my computer?

I bought an Iphone 3gs from someone yesterday, but it will not show a device through Itunes. My computer does not even read that it is in my USB port. Any suggestions or answers. Not sure what my Iphone operates on but my computer is Windows 7

I would try different usb ports
then I would try another cable
then I would try another computer
if no repsons was given in any of those troubleshooting paths then
I would say the iphones connector was damaged

  • Iphone 3GS will not sync with Windows

I could not get it to sync and the dealer then told me it does not work with Windows 7 so I am returningd it and the other stuff I bought from the apple store and cancelled my order for another one and 2 new macs. The dealer was not too worried. Apple must have so many customers that they do not have to worry about new ones, nice business. Misrepresentation of a products capabilities is one day going to cost them though in my experience. I have bought a 3 ipods which did actually work. iPhone is a product that does not work with Windows 7 and a 1 year old laptop and in the year 2009 that is almost unbelievable and should be told to consumers before they buy and struggle and then realise they have been sold a dud.

I think you are mixing things up. This is a patch supplied by Intel to motherboards and BIOS (BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM) manufacturers who based their newest motherboards on Intel P55 chipset. To get this fix you update your BIOS. The BIOS is independent of any operating system (it comes with the motherboards already flashed). Has nothing to do with Apple or Microsoft.
    here is a link
A few days ago we had reported a problem with iTunes sync between the iPhone and PCs equipped with Windows 7 of the Intel P55 chipset. Intel released a patch that solves this problem within seconds. You can download the patch here and then start the installation. Restart your computer and you will see all your sync problems are solved.
NOTE: If your computer doesen’t feature the specs above, do not install the patch. Otherwise, happy syncing….

  • Replaced iphone 3Gs will not sync with itunes

Hi, First timer on this forum, read through all questions but could not find a related Q&A to my problem so hopefully someone can offer some help.
I received a replacement iphone from apple but it is not being recognized by itunes on my macbook. My netbook is picking it up, but I need to restore from my back up files to get all my info back. I have gone through the steps offered by apple support, except uninstalling completely itunes. I tried to download itunes v10 but getting an error "Verification code not recognized". My ipod touch and my wifes iphone are not being picked up either. All worked last week?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    M

I forgot to mention that when I tried to sync in Windows 7, I had to authorize my PC as if it were a new computer. Is that unusual?
I also just tried rebooting using Vista. Still won't sync.
Now the message reads: The disk cannot be read from or written to.

  • Iphone 3gs will not sync with computer help !!

Okay, I've tried everything I read on the internet and nothing has worked. I even erased the data and settings off it because it wouldnt sync with my Itunes. Now its telling me to connect it to Itunes but I cant? Also I activated it off a different computer because I was having trouble installing Itunes, now that I finally have it, it doesnt work. I'm going out of my mind here can someone PLEASE help me ???

Oh well no not that, its just that it does not appear on the Itunes left side bar. I'm re-istalling Itunes now but I don't think it would make much difference because I only installed it yesterday so its not that its an old version. Nope no error message or anything just doesnt show up. When I go onto the start menu and click computer the Iphone shows up there.
