IPhone 3GS with 4.2.1 will not connect to iTunes 10.6.3.25

When I plug my 3GS into my computer with iTunes pulled up nothing happens. It wont even charge. I have used the same cord and computer to connect to my father's iPhone 4 and his old 3GS. I have information on this phone that i really dont want to lose. someone please help.

IPhone 3GS with pictures in folder will not sync with iTunes

The problem I have is that when I attempt to connec my iphone to my HP Pavilian dv500 it causes my computer to shut down. I have itunes up and running but the instant I plug the phone in windows shuts down. The blue screen has a message but it closes to quickly for me to read it.
I have call tech suppot and the tech told me it has something to do with having pictures on my iphone. So I reset my computer with no pictures and it will sync up to itunes and I can then do what ever I want to. But if I take a photo with my iphone or move pictures over onto my iphone the next time I attempt to sync up to itunes my computer will shut down. And to be able to sync again I have to delete my photos.
HELP? What can be causeing the problem?

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

Sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS.
Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any device.
Note that you will void the warranty and loose official support by Apple.

Anyway, give a try resetting all your settings:

Sounds like you broke it.

I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. I have tried signing out and in, still does not work.
Still just get the previously mentioned "messages".
I wanted to restore, but then you have to turn off "find my ipad/iphone" but this is not allowed, as I cannot connect to the itunes/icloud or app store. The units work with current apps. EG; email etc, and with apps that do not require current updates.

Checked on google and it appears to be a regular item of discontent, but so far I cannot find an answer that works.

It sounds like you are unable to connect to your home Wi-Fi suddenly on 2 different iOS devices. I would be interested to know if the affected phones are able to connect to a different Wi-Fi connection, but barring that I would use the following article to help troubleshoot the devices and the Wi-Fi connection:

I had the same problem. Reinstalled everything and still nothing. Came across this article:
