IPhone 3GS won't show up in iTunes

Today, I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to the golden master version of the developer preview of iOS 4.3. After I updated, I opened iTunes (10.2.1), but it wouldn't show up, no matter how many times I unplugged it and plugged it back in. My first-gen iPad (also running the golden master of 4.3) wouldn't work either. I don't know what to do.

My iPhone 5S won't show up in iTunes to sync. It charges still and it opens iPhoto, but doesn't even register in iTunes. I have no idea what to do and nothing is working!
And the other night while i was trying to sync my phone, it was working until "Error message (-50)" started coming up every time i tried to sync or update my phone's software through itunes on my computer. eventually, itunes quit and i unplugged my phone and updated it wirelessly. i have no idea why any of this is happenings. Itunes is still acting weird for me too.

Error -50 is generally associated with firewalls or anti-virus software as described here:

Separately, are you using iTunes 11.1.4?

    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • IPhone 5s won't show up in iTunes

I bought an iPhone 5s today and after it was fully activated and working, tried to hook it up to my computer. It said my itunes had to update, however it wouldn't update so I uninstalled itunes and downloaded it off of apple's site. This time it downloaded and when I checked itunes for updates, it said it was at 11.1.5 and current. However, when I plug my phone in, it won't show up in itunes. It registers on the computer and the phone asks me if I want to trust this computer, to which I answer yes.
I've tried checking the apple mobile support and stopping and starting it again along with anything else to do with the mobile. I've tried reinstalling, restarting and pretty much everything I can think of.
My computer is a fully updated, windows 8.1 HP

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes 10.3.1.55

I just downloaded the new updated iTunes today.  After doing so, my iPhone 3GS doesn't show up on there or my computer.
It shows up under devices but not on hardware (on my PC).  Is there a glitch in the new update?  I haven't had any trouble until
now.  I went through the troubleshooter and did everything it asked and still nothing.  When I first plugged in my phone after the update,
a window popped up saying something about Windows updating the driver on the device.  I thought drivers and such only came from
Apple.  Under the pc's tab Devices and Printers, I ran a troubleshooter on the phone and it also said it couldn't identify the problem.
Everything seems to work ok on the phone, but I can't add any music to the phone or download pics from the phone.  If I reset my phone,
will I lose my pics I haven't put on my pc yet?  Thanks for any help.

Don't reset your phone.  Resetting will return the phone to factory settings and you will loose everything.  Spend some time working toward a fix.
You might want to try a different USB cable.  It is possible that your cable conincedentally went bad.  I have had this problem before - even cables that will chrage the phone sometimes stop working for data purposes.

  • My iphone 4 won't show up in iTunes after installing snow leopard

My iPhone 4 won't show up after snow leopard has been installed. I just updated iTunes to 10.5.3 (3). the Macbook pro does recognize the device in iPhoto and I can sync the photos. But no connection is made with iTunes. I've read something about it on the support forums, but I'm not sure what to do for fear of losing data either on my phone or on iTunes. Can you help?
    Thanks

  • IPhone 4 won't show up in iTunes

    Hi All,
I recently bought an iPhone 4, but had to upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to download the new iTunes. It has been a long process just to use my iPhone. Now everytime I plug in my iPhone I get a message saying that "detected an iphone in recovery mode, you must restore this iPhone"-BUT I CAN'T b/c I get the error message above!

  • IPhone 3Gs won't sync contacts through iTunes after 4.0.2 upgrade

I updated to OS 4.0.2 today, and since then my iPhone 3Gs will not sync contacts. All contacts have now disappeared from my phone. The group headings still show, but Contacts is empty. I performed a factory reset and restored my phone, but still no contacts. Even after repeated syncs.
I am syncing with Address Book through iTunes. I performed a one way sync each time from laptop to phone to avoid the phone overwriting my address book with zero data. I also backed up my contacts before attempting the sync, so the data still exists in Address Book, it simply won't appear in the phone.
I also tried to reset sync history - first by using iSync 'reset sync history' button, but that does not work these days as iSync does not see my iPhone. Then I tried looking for the reset sync history' button that Apple Support says can be found as follows:
"Open iTunes. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab. Click the Reset Sync History button."
But - that button is not there!
    Any ideas anyone?

Did you try to set up your phone without using the latest backup? If you can, your other backup might be damaged and not usable anymore.
How to back up your data and set up as a new device

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes

(Sorry for the length of this, but I want to make sure that I don't leave out anything that I've done.)
It all started last week when I installed Starcraft 2 on my Mac mini (the new one that came out in June 2010). Starcraft 2 crashed frequently due to the nVidia driver issues in 10.6.4, so the next day I re-installed OS X from the DVD that came with my computer to rollback to 10.6.3. Starcraft 2 worked better, but that's beside the point.
Later that day I noticed that iTunes didn't show my iPhone 3GS when it was connected (I have had zero problems with this since I got my Mac mini last month). (I'm using iTunes 9.2.1, by the way). I searched a bit, and found the instructions to Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224). I followed the instructions, and everything worked quite well.
At this point, I thought the problem was either due to my re-install of OS X or Starcraft 2 (I'm using a USB headset, which could somehow be related).
I was having other issues with Starcraft 2 at this point, so I decided to install Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. I did this, installed Starcraft 2, and played away.
When I rebooted into OS X, again I noticed that my iPhone wasn't showing up in iTunes. I started to follow the uninstall steps again, and this time I noticed that iTunesHelper wasn't running. It wasn't running because it wasn't in the list of login items to run when my account logs in. Since I was part way through uninstalling anyway, I continued with the process and then reinstalled iTunes. Once again, iTunes saw my iPhone fine. This time I also manually added iTunesHelper to my login items (I had to right click iTunes.app, Show Package Contents, navigate to iTunesHelper.app, and drag it into the list of Login items; I did check the Hide checkbox, since I recalled it being checked during the first uninstall).
It was a few days before I checked iTunes again (I rebooted a few times in here to play Starcraft 2 in Windows; note that I haven't ran Starcraft 2 in OS X since I installed Windows XP previously). However, once again my iPhone wasn't in iTunes.
Since I want to sync my iPhone today, I once again follow the uninstall iTunes process. This time, after installing it and verifying that my iPhone shows up in iTunes (again, I had to manually add iTunesHelper to my login items), I immediately rebooted and connected my iPhone. It didn't show up in iTunes (which I kind of expected at this point). I verified that iTunesHelper was indeed running.
I also tried connecting my wife's iPod touch (first generation), but it doesn't show up in iTunes either (not that I expected it to).
I've tried changing the USB port the dock connector is connected to, but that doesn't seem to matter. I did not change the port during the last reboot attempt, so I do not think that the port itself is bad. I have it connected to one of the ports on the back of the Mac mini, not to one of the ports on my keyboard. Also, my iPhone does charge when connected to this port even if iTunes doesn't recognize it.
At this point it sounds like the iTunes 9.2.1 installer doesn't do something that is required for the iPhone to be recognized by iTunes after a reboot, even though it sets things up properly right after installation. Based on the uninstall instructions, I compared the iTunes related files on my Mac with my wife's (a MacBook from early 2008, if that matters), and everything seems to be in place.
I've seen quite a few other posts here regarding issues with iPhones (and iPod touches) not showing up in iTunes, so apparently this is a common issue, but none of them seemed to help my problem.
Do you have any ideas of anything else I can try?
    Thank you very much!

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • IPhone 6 won't show up in Itunes on MacBook

I bought an iPhone 6 today.  I have an old MacBook (circa 2008) running OS X 10.6.8 and Itunes 11.0.2.
I synched my iPhone 4 and backed up the photos in iPhoto.
When I plug in my iPhone 6, the first couple of times it said that I need to unlock the device.  I did that, but then it said something like "don't recognize the device"
After the 2nd or 3rd time, it simply stopped even showing this message and the iPhone 6 won't register at all.  I don't have any other devices that I synched with Itunes.
Any ideas?  Other discussions I saw didn't provide a resolution that appear to be appropriate.
    Thanks.

    Get iTunes 12.

  • Iphone music won't show up in itunes

    Hi,
I have an Iphone4s with IOS6. I recently put about 20 songs on my iphone from itunes and put these songs in a playlist. The only music that was there before this was a song I purchased. I can play the songs from my iphone just fine, but when I hook up my phone to my computer and pull up itunes, the playlist - in addition to the songs - won't display in itunes. I can click on the iphone icon and click on the music subtab and it will only show the song I purchased, but not the songs I recently put on. I am trying to figure out how to get the music I added to my iphone to show up in itunes. It would be great to see what is there and in addition, it would be great to play the music on my iphone from itunes on my computer.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
