IPhone 3GS wont update to 3.0.1

When I try to update my iPhone 3GS from 3.0 to 3.0.1 I get an error message saying "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out." Also, under downloads in iTunes, the file says err = 3259. Anyone have any ideas?

Try temporarily disabling your computer's firewall, and your anti-virus software and any other anti-whatever you may be running before starting the download.

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup. I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

IPhone 3gs wont update from 4.2.1 to latest update

I have got a iphone 3gs myself which is on the latest update but I have tried to do my girlfriends which we have only gotten unlock from the telstra network in Australia and it tells me that the 4.2.1 version is current version. This phone hasnt been jailbroken therefore im at a lost for why i cant update it. Anyone that cant shed light on this would be great.

Is the device actually a 3GS? iOS4.2.1 is the current/latest version for the 3G.

Maybe you have an iPhone 3G and not a 3GS. A 3GS has a Compass App, a 3G iPhone does not. The latest software for iPhone 3G is 4.2.1
Check which iPhone you have.

You can start by telling us the EXACT error message you're getting.
If you're trying to update over the air, try doing it with your computer instead and vice versa.

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

I know it is not dead because I can see the apple logo on, and every time I connect it to a USB port to charge, or a wall charger, the battery appears with a bit of red. Still, it wont turn on. It sounds like the iPhone is experiencing issues upon startup, and may not be loading the firmware or operating system correctly. If you have not already done so, try resetting the iPhone while connected to power:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Not a good sign. Try forcing the phone into recovery mode & restoring it. If this fails, make an appointment at an Apple store:

Someone help my sons iPhone 3GS wont show up on the iTunes or Sync....
I have the lastest version of iTunes and tried EVERYTHING!!!!!! Any other options I can try apart from rebooting PC, re-installing iTunes?

I think everything...i tried rebooting my phone, I have tried all option I searched through on iTunes and have tried installing it on my laptop (other than my pc) and its still not worked.

Iphone 3gs wont accept a charge.

My iphone 3gs wont accept a charge at all, not from its original ac adapter, usb or aftermarket ones.Once the phone goes flat and turns itself off it charges back up until it powers up then nothing again. and the small amount of charge it did get only lasts about 1 hour.
I cant do a back up and/or reboot coz the usb doesnt connect either... What do I do?

I forgot to mention, this phone is only 8 months old but it's out of warranty coz it was a new warranty replacement for another one that stopped working. I was told this one only got the warranty that was left from the other one??
