SYMPTOM: Syncing iPhone 4/4s/5 with iTunes and all music content is greyed out. [Mac Platform]
Friends, I had epic issues with my iPhone 4 (After upgrading to iOS6) & my new iPhone 5. I've read multiply threads online that really got me no where. I got desperate. Using 'CleanMyMac' I uninstalled iTunes completely. TRASHED IT! I have all my music/content stored in a secondary drive so I wasn't worried about losing any media. I then deleted the iTunes folder in my profile -- Macintosh HD/Users/PROFILE NAME/Music/iTunes. TRASHED IT! Gave the machine a good reboot and was on my way to a clean install.
When you're about to uninstall/delete the iTunes app you will be prompted with an alert message -- I ignored it. Another thing to note; the 'iTunes Helper' is running in the background. Using 'Activity Monitor' quit the 'iTunes Helper' process.
The machine has been rebooted and on we go to the clean install. I thought I'd be able to reinstall iTunes using 'Software Update,' but that wasn't the case. I had to download the iTunes install from the Apple site. I installed iTunes 10.7. All the default settings we intact. I customized my iTunes Media Folder path and dragged my content in. All my items initialized.
I connected my iPhone 5 to iTunes and did what would be my last restore. I choose all my personal settings on my phone. I created a quick smart playlist and directed my iTunes to sync my iPhone automatically within the Music tab. Also choose to sync tones. Clicked on 'Sync.' VUALA! IT WORKED!
Reinstalling iTunes is kind of an exagerated way of fixing something, but I was at a loss and needed a place to start. I'm guessing there's a setting/configuration file that is corrupted in the iTunes folder within the profile. Locating the corrupt file(s) can prevent an uninstall.

TIPS
- You can set the iTunes Media folder location to point outside the default directory by opening iTunes, Preferences, Advanced Tab, Change button. Make sure to check 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.' If your primary drive fails or is out of disk space you can isolate your content on a secondary drive and secure your data.
Ended up having to go to the apple store....
they had not heard or seen this problem. But we got it to work. Tech was confused as he couldnt get it to respond as it should. Guessing there was a software glitch somewhere and needed a swift kick in the a**
Basically reset the phone to factory settings then resync to last saved backup on computer. This replaced everything that was lost and added the albums that were not showing.
took a few hours to reload everything onto the phone and was a royal PITA but it worked..... no lost info even saved my text history, contacts, photos....
Something you can do at home without having to call in or go to a store.

Where do you find the ringtone tab on your personal itunes so that you can sync new ringtones to your iphone? I am trying to get ringtones from my ringtone app onto my phone and the directions said to click Ringtones on the top of iTunes. I am having trouble finding the Ringtones on the top of iTunes.
Go to edit then preferences in itunes on your computer and then check the box TONES and then click OK. with your phone attached to your computer with USB cable select the name of your phone on the left and then in window on right select TONES from the menu items across the top of the window

Itunes will not sync playlist with iphone
I have playlists currently synced with my iphone. I check another playlist to add and it and itunes goes through the syncing motions but does not add the playlist to the iphone. There is over 4gb of space and the mp3's are available on my pc. If I remove a playlist from the iphone it does get removed but it will not sync back. There are no errors displayed. Itunes 8.2.0.23 and Iphone os is 3.0.
I realize that but it does not Sync back when it has only Podcasts and if it has other then only the songs and not Podcasts sync back to desk. Songs work exactly as you describe.
My point is that at least I can go on a long hike without having to start each group of Podcasts Subscriptions after it finishes the episodes in the previous one. That can be a real pain, especially on long hikes with short Podcasts. It takes a very short time to set up the on the go. I DO NOT LIKE THIS but it seems the only answer for now.
I could restore the old version from my image backup then lose the neat new feature of arranging screens on the PC instead of the POD. -
Itunes 11.4 will not sync any music
Itunes 11.4 will not sync any music to iPad 2 mini or iPhone 3GS after upgrade. I have tried a full restore and hard resets on the iPhone. I have tried multiple combinations of checking and unchecking the boxed related to transfers and automatic syncing.
I hit the sync button and only for a brief second does it appear to attempt to sync and then nothing further happens. It seems to abort with no error message. Any assistance would be appreciated or thumbs up from those with similar problems after a recent upgrade.
I am using OS 10.6.8.
Thank you!i'm in the same boat. setting up my iPhone 6 as a new device (as i've done numerous of times with my other iDevices). i've had zero luck on transferring my library and playlist over to my new iPhone 6. I do nothing different than what i've done before. I'm experiencing the same thing as the OP. It goes through the steps pretty quick and the storage capacity at the bottom shrinks a few GB's for my playlist i'm adding, then it reverts back to what it's currently at and does nothing, no errors.

I'm having trouble with custom ringtones. I have downloaded the free software "makeTones" and have created some ringtones. I then copied those to Mac and played them in ITunes. My Itunes library does not have a ringtones tab. I can not sync the ringtones (or I don't know how)! Please help.
Yes, the file extension is M4R. Does it matter where I save these files on my Macbook? I then opened them in Itunes and played them. I did find the Tones folder in Itunes but the Tones or Ringtones tab does not show up when I select Iphone (within Itunes). When I open the Tones folder in the Library, it is empty. iTunes 10.5 will not sync to my BlackBerry. I sync's outlook fine with desk top manager, but when I select music DM says connect device. It also tells me to install iTunes!?!? Running XP Pro w/SR3 and BBerry Tourch 9810.

hmmmm. you've got rather a lot of burning software entries in there. (it looks like you've got some kind of Roxio product installed, as well as itunes and Alcohol 120%.)
by way of experiment, try the technique described in the following document (remember to take a backup of your device filter registry keys first).

Ever since I updated iTunes my iPods will not sync with my cars.I have a 30g and 60g 5th gen iPods that I use in my two car. In my cars I have a dealer installed integration module so that I can navigate my I pods play list artist and song titles using the radio itself. Ever since that last iTunes update 7.3.1. I no longer am able to use this feature. I used my sister’s 30g iPod that she did has not updated and the system works fine. Can someone help me with this problem.
I have had an Alpine head unit in my car with the ipod connection for about a year and it has worked fine until recently. Now I get an error message on the ipod that reads, "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this ipod." I have tried connecting a buddy's ipod to my car stereo, and his still works fine with it. I've done the 5 R's, tried going back to an older version of itunes as Alpine suggested. My next step will be going to the Apple store with an appointment, seeing what they say.

I purchased a video from iTunes but it will not sync to my iPod. I get a message stating that the video "was not loaded to the iPod because iyt cannot be played on this iPod." I tried to use the "create an iPod version" but the command is grayed out
I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

Simply turn off the iPhone for about 60 seconds, and see if they reappear. If not, I would call Apple Care at 800-676-2775.
