IPhone 4 Activation at Home Question!

I understand that if I already have the unlimited data plan, that I don't have to change to the 2GB plan. However, when I activate my iPhone 4 on iTunes at home, will there be an option to keep my current plan or to change to another? I just don't wanna get screwed by AT&T and lose my unlimited date. :-\

Since you already have the unlimited data plan, the unlimited data plan option should be pre-selected along with an option to select one of the two new data plans. If not pre-selected, the unlimited data plan should be an option to select since you already have the unlimited data plan. If this is not pre-selected, be sure to select it.

  • IPhone 4S activation NIGHTMARE, Apple problem, not AT&T

Got new iPhone 4S delivered on release day (Friday, Oct 14).  Activated without problem.  On Sunday, it quit working except when connected to wall charger.
On Monday, called AppleCare, hardware failure was problem.  Had choice to pay $29 for them to immediately send me another one, or, they would send me a box to mail in my broken iPhone, then they would send me a repaired or replacement iPhone 4S.  Opted for latter.  Drove 40 miles to AT&T store to get new SIM card for old iPhone 3GS, activated it in store.  Got shipping box for 1st iPhone 4S on Tuesday, mailed on Tuesday.  Got replacement iPhone 4S on Thursday, late in day.  Replacement was quick, no complaints.
Nightmare Friday:  ready to activate replacement iPhone 4S, about 5:00 PM called AT&T Business from my office phone to activate, had obtained IMEI & SIM card nos. from screen on new iPhone 4S.  I noticed, however, that the IMEI no. on the phone was different from the IMEI no. shown on the shipping box that replacement iPhone 4S came in.  Initially, the process went smooth until the time came for phone to actually activate.  It wouldn't.
After going through initial menu on iPhone to activate, I end up with message:  Device unknown   This iPhone is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  Please visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  The closest Apple Store for me is over 110 miles away.
Connected replacement iPhone 4S to MacBook Pro.  In iTunes, I get the following message:  There is a problem with your iPhone.  We're sorry, the iPhone you connected is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  To find your nearest Apple Store, click here.
I'm still on the call with AT&T.  They transfer call to AppleCare tech support.  Verified IMEI no. and SIM card no. off of the SIM card tray.  Technician advises that the IMEI no. is not in his system.  We figured out that this IMEI no. did not match the number on my shipping box.  Verified the serial no. from the SIM card tray, technician never advised me whether that number was in his system, but it also did not match the serial no. shown on shipping box.  We tried the hard reset procedure twice, same results and messages.  We tried to get it to work with the old SIM card from my 1st iPhone 4S, same results and messages.  Technician brought AT&T guy into the phone call.  Verified and re-verified all of these nos. several times, from the iPhone 4S screen and from the bottom of the SIM card tray, although I had to find a magnifying glass to see the numbers clearly, they are very small.  The AT&T guy repeatedly related that there appeared to be no problems on his end.  I was getting a cellular signal with 3G, which apparently was able to attempt activation over cellular airwaves.  Also tried activation over my wi-fi network and through iTunes.  We were on hold for what seemed forever while technician tried to figure out the problem.
During the call, I received several calls from family wondering what in the he[ck] I was doing and why I wasn't home yet to grill steaks!  This procedure should not have taken longer than 10-15 minutes, but it ended up lasting 3 hours and 10 minutes.  The call ended when I got another call from home and I forgot to hit the HOLD button for the call to AT&T/AppleCare tech when I answered the other line.  I opted to go home.  Steaks are still marinating, we ate McDonalds.  Had an e-mail from the technician, left him a voice mail, I think he went home.
Later this evening, logged onto my Apple account which showed my registered products by serial no.  They have listed my initial iPhone 4S which I sent in.  They also have listed another iPhone 4S with the serial no. shown on the shipping box, which is inconsistent with the serial no. shown on the bottom of the SIM card tray of the replacement iPhone 4S.  I initially tried to create a Support Case No. online using the serial no. from the iPhone, not the box.  Was quickly given message that that serial no. was not valid.
So, I find myself again with an inoperable iPhone 4S on a weekend and the only option to get my old iPhone 3GS activated again is to drive 40 miles to the AT&T store to get another SIM card.  With no prospects for getting an operable iPhone 4S any time soon, the nightmare continues.
I have been a dedicated user of Apple computers and products (iPods, iPhone, iPads et al as they came out) for over 20 years.  Never have I experienced a nightmare of this magnitude until now.  Up until today, I would never have considered the thought of being on the negative side of Apple's top-rated customer satisfaction.
One can only hope that someone in AppleCare Tech Support with the authority to resolve such problems reads these boards AND is willing to look into this without delay (like before our steak dinner Saturday evening).  Are you listening (reading)???

NIGHTMARE Finally Ends, after nearly two weeks.
After trying for over a week trying to get my replacement iPhone 4S to activate, I ended up driving 110+ miles to an Apple Store to get a second replacement, which had been specially shipped there for me.  Popped in the SIM card, went through the setup and I finally have an iPhone 4S that works, at least for the time being.
Advice to others who find themselves in this situation:
         1)     If you get these messages (see original post), the phone is bad.  Demand a replacement.
         2)     If the AppleCare tech advises that the Apple Agreement Administration team is investigating, you'll be waiting for a week or more for them to complete it.  Demand a replacement immediately, don't let them put you off indefinitely.
After the initial phone call documented in my original post, I was in daily contact, phone & e-mail, with the AppleCare tech trying to figure out the problem, and we tried everything, from forced restore's to switching SIM cards, conferencing w/ AT&T, etc.  It seems that this was a case of first impression to Apple, but if it wasn't, then the problem is not well documented or known by those who should know, and for that, the blame should be on Apple, not the AppleCare tech who worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution--I'd send him a case of beer if I knew where to send it.

  • Iphone 4s activation at selfsolve.apple

    Hello!
I've been browsing internet and apple discussions but failed to find an answer to my specific question.
I bought iPhone 4S 64 ggb from Finland (ordered the delivery, so did not talk to the seller myself). The courier promised that the phone is unlocked.
So yesterday I inserted my Russian sim-card, turned the phone on and went through restoration from archive procedure in iTunes (I used to have iPhone 4S 16 ggb, so made its full copy in iTunes) . Everything went successful: application, contacts, cal. restoration and so on. iTunes identifies my cell phone number, I have a cell coverage, iMessages function fine.
But I am worried about activation. When I check my serial number at https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do, it says "Please activate your iPhone". But I did not have the same warning when I used my 16 ggb iPhone - it was activated successfully.
So I started searching for answers. I found that:
    a) iPhones may be locked (when there is no coverage and service, unless you use sim of a specific operator), factory unlocked (i.e. sim free - use any sim in any country) and soft unlocked (some sort of situation when the phone functions ok with any sim and there is cell service, but there are lags with service from time to time and risk to be cut off by cell operator at any time), is that right?
    b) activation at selfsolve may take several days to perform, is that so? did I start panicking early?
Guys, I would appreciate if you commented on the questions raised above. Am I right in (a) and (b)?
Or if I have a cell coverage and iTunes synch. then my iPhone is fine and good to use and activation on apple web-site is just a matter of time?
Just in case, my model is MD258KS

Just to close the topic and let others know of the same issues.
The bugs with the 64 gb phone continued - it turned off occasionally, there were slight delays in reaction to my screen touches, etc. So I called the seller and asked for refund. During the talk the seller confessed that, indeed, this phone was produced as locked, but later it was officially unlocked by the operator, that Apple has such procedure and unlock is official. Well, personally, I doubt it, especially considering that Apple warranty check still asks to activate the phone.
So this 64 gb phone was returned, money refunded. I ordered iPhone 4S 64 gb from another seller. This time iPhone's box was sealed (was not open). Seller promised under potential refund threat that this one was produced unlocked. So I put in SIM as soon as iPhone was handed to me. And I even have not finish the installation procedure but already Apple warranty online check showed that iPhone was activated successfully, I could see guarantee deadlines and so on.
I've been using this new iPhone for 2 days already and I did not have a single bug or lag. It's perfect!
So I believe, that all the bugs are due to wrong activation, locking and that sort of stuff.

  • Not sure how to ask this; iPhone 5 carrier unlocked but question about refurb iPhone 5

Ok, so. Sorry if the tittle is a bit confusing, im not really sure how to even word it myself.
The short; I had some issues with AT&T at the begining of the year so i left them and had them unlock my iPhone 5 so i could use it with T-Mobile. But now im having this issue with my iPhone 5 were the home buton is a bit unresponsive sometimes. It started as it feeling a bit loose and making a clicking sound when slightly taped. I did go to the Apple store when it first started happening and they said it wasnt a big issue, that some did this, basicaly saying "Its normal dont worry about it." I said ok and went on my way.
Now, when i had an unresponsive home button on my old iPhone 4 with AT&T all the Apple store did was give me a refurb. Ok, no issues, pop sim out of old iPhone, put in refurb iPhone, everything works fine.
But, my question is; if they give me a refurb iPhone 5, how would the whole process work seeing as i had my current iPhone 5 unlocked by AT&T vs. buying it unlocked from Apple and im using it on a different network other then what i bought for?
Sorry if its all a bit confusing, like i said, im not even sure how to word some of this.

An exchange under warranty can be a new or refurbished iPhone with no way to tell the difference. An exchange under warranty if new or refurbished is called a service unit and is provided in a plain unsealed box with the iPhone only.
Apple should have on record that your iPhone 5 is officially unlocked since the unlocking was done by Apple with iTunes after Apple was notified by AT&T that unlocking your iPhone was authorized by AT&T.
Make sure this information is on record by Apple before the iPhone is exchanged if Apple determines the iPhone needs to be exchanged under warranty.

  • Iphone 4 activation

I currently own a 3GS, i am planning on preordering iPhone 4 and have it delivered to my house. my question is if i just put the micro sim and connect to iTunes will the phone activate, or do i need to somehow associate the micro sim to my at&t account.

The micro-SIM card should ship pre-installed in the iPhone 4 just as the SIM card included with your 3GS shipped pre-installed.
After powering the iPhone on, no functions will work until the iPhone is activated - except for being able to place an emergency 911 call.
You connect the iPhone to iTunes and you will be provided the iPhone activation process with AT&T. You go through the prompts which aren't many to activate the iPhone with AT&T, which will activate the micro-SIM card with your AT&T line/number.

  • HT2688 ihave purchased an apple tv box, and now want to activate home sharing on my computer, and as i am not computer sauvy, i  am  having trouble  activating  the home share .

i need help activating the home sharing, i went to i tunes and it talked about the product butnowhere what to do to activate it.

    Hello!
I have come across the same issue and chose your response to reply to since it seems to be the most recent- First, the set up at the house:
    MacBook Pro mid-2010
    AppleTV Gen2
    Belkin router
    Two iPhones- 4s
iPad 3- Retina / WiFi only (set up with a different apple id- wife's iPad)
So- I have the same apple ID set up on the laptop, apple TV and my phone.  Home Sharing is set to the same account on all these devices and the AppleTV does not recognize any of them.  I do not see the Apple TV, nor the laptop, in the remote app on my phone.
I have the network set with a password in WPA/WPA2 mode and no firewall set up on with the router or the laptop...
    Help?
I've read through many comments about ipV6- but that seemed to be based on windows machines, I've read that a mid 2010 MacBook Pro doesn't have the guts to handle homesharing, I have restarted and restored the appleTV as well as logged everything out and back in again...
Not sure where to go from here- thanks for any guidance.

  • IPhone 4S - activation. Please advise

My first such experience with an iPhone, so really need some guidance and advice.
I have got a second hand iPhone 4S - OS 5.1.1. I was told that it is SIM locked to a certain network.
When I switched it on it had Apple's Terms & Conditions on the screen which I had to accept or decline to proceed. I accepted.  After restart it asks me to insert a "valid sim card".
1 Question: I am wondering if this is standard to get T&C on the screen after restore or this phone never been activated?
2 Question: If this iPhone has never been activated - can it be activated with a different carrier's SIM card to what it was supposed to be locked to?
3 Question: If I try to activate it with a SIM card from a different carrier - what is the chance that it stops working and becomes a "brick"?
    Please advise. Thank you

There is no such thing as an "unlocked" Sprint phone.
The SIM slot can be unlocked for use by Sprint customers when travelling internationally.
That error most likely indicates that the phone was hacked, or an attempt to hack it was made, and it has now been permanently damaged.
If you ARE a Sprint customer, contact your local Apple Store.

  • Siri is prompting to unlock Iphone 6 when pressing home button for voice dial of existing contact

Just upgraded me to an IPhone 6. I restored my new phone from recent back up so all contacts, etc. are there. Also updated to latest OS.
If I depress the home button Siri is now prompting me to unlock my IPhone.
    Scenario:
Depress Home button to activate Siri
    Say "Call Home:"
Siri responds "You'll need unlock your IPhone first"
    Unlock IPhone
Siri responds "Just to confirm - you'd like to call home".
I used to be able to just say "Call home" and it would just dial.....no unlock...no confirmation.
What's changed? Is there a setting I need to tweak?
    Running iOS 8.1.1
    Thanks

    Hi teturner,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iPhone 6. If you are unable to voice dial from your lock screen, you may want to see if the setting to disable Siri when the phone is locked is enabled, as is noted here:
Prevent access to Siri when iPhone is locked. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode (iPhone models with Touch ID) or Settings > Passcode (other models). You can also disable Siri by turning on restrictions. See Restrictions.

  • My iPhone 6 was stolen 3 weeks ago, unfortunately I didn't have "Find my iPhone" feature activated so I am unable to track it. When I login to my iCloud, I still see that iPhone as logged in to my Apple ID. Any solutions to this?

    Stolen iPhone 6
    Find my iPhone not activated
But iCloud still shows that it is logged in with my Apple ID

If your phone was stolen an didn't have Find My iPhone turned on the first thing I would do is change your Apple ID password. Immediately after that I would change the password for every app and web account that resides on the iPhone.
When you get your new replacement iPhone make sure that Find My iPhone is turned on and you have a good passcode set up to prevent unauthorized folks from gaining access to your device.

If the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) don't work, you'll need to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation

  • Iphone 4s activation- 2 phones on the same itunes account

My son has used my Itunes account and I thought he started his own when he got his Iphone.  But, he didn't.  He was able to activate his phone under my account.  Now, my Iphone needed a reset and I can't re-activate it.  It keeps telling me that I can't use the id.  I put in my Apple ID but it says it can't be used to unlock the phone.  Is this a US Cellular issue or an ITunes issue? Its' annoying me terribly since I can't use my phone now.  I've tried so many different things.  Just am about ready to throw the thing out.  What do I do? Does he need to create a new account and if so, how since his phone is tied to my account now?

    Hi lsbandt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your running into an Activation Lock issue since restoring your iPhone. Take a look at the article linked below, it will provide more details about the feature and provide suggestions on how to recover the username and password.
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818
What if I forget my Apple ID password?
If you forget your password, you can reset it at My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com) or by contacting Apple Support and verifying your identity. Once your password has been reset, it will work normally with Find My iPhone and Activation Lock.
If you forget your password and cannot reset it, you will lose access to your Apple ID and may be unable to use or reactivate your device. To help prevent this, visit My Apple ID periodically to review and update your account information.
What if I purchase a device that is still linked to the previous owner's account?
Contact the previous owner as soon as possible and ask them to erase the device and remove it from their account. For complete instructions, read how to remove a device from a previous owner's account.
    Cheers!

  • How do i get rid of an old apple id from an iphone upon activation IOS 7

This phone was sold to me by a friend and it had and account upon activation, my freind doesn't know the information how do I get rid of the account so I can use the phone?? Please I need to know I lost my other phone and I am trying to use this one.

The "friend" will have to log in to his or her Apple ID and disable Find my iPhone. Or unlink by logging in to iCloud using the correct Apple ID and password and unlinking the phone. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661 for what your friend has to do before you can use the phone.
I am truly amazed that a friend would sell you a phone without wiping out its contents, which must contain a lot of sensitive personal information. And to wipe it clean the friend would have had to disable Find my iPhone.
Activation Lock is Apple's antitheft feature, that prevents a stolen iPhone from ever being used again. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818 for how it works.

I use my iphone 5 to record home videos. I have an apple tv but dvd burners dont have a hdmi plug in. Any suggestions on how i can burn videos from iphone 5?
I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.
