IPhone 4 - All Data gone after iOS5 update

My coworker has an iPhone 4 but her home computer doesn't have a version of iTunes new enough to update the phone to iOS5. I installed iTunes and backed up the phone on her work computer and when I went to updated it to iOS5, everything was gone. Apps, contacts, pictures... everything! I had this problem with my own iPhone 4, so I restored from backup and all was well. However, when I tried with hers, it says there was an error (-50) and asks me to continue the restore and I say yes, but nothing.
There are 4 backups in my backup folder, but even when I used iPhone Backup Restore, it says there is no data in the backup. Are my backups corrupted? Is there any way to recover data?

Apps and music are not part of the backup process. They should already exist in the iTunes library of the machine it's being updated from and are synced back at the end of the update process.  Unfortunately, since the update was done on a different machine, that didn't happen.
If your co-worker didn't have a late enough version of iTunes to update the phone, that also means she won't even be able to sync the phone with her computer.
Why doesn't she just download the current iTunes? Then she can sync her stuff back. Unless, that is, she has a Mac running a version of Mac OS X older than 10.5...

  • All info gone after software update, how can i get it back?

New G3, notified me I needed to sync w/itunes to get the new update. After syncing, and various problems and errors, it said i needed to restore my iphone... everything would be wiped clean +but i could get it back+ after the update was complete. Update is complete, where is the option to put all of my stuff back on my phone? My contacts, my appointments, my alarms, my life... aargh!

Turns out those error messages it gave me were because it didn't sync properly and create a backup. Which is why when I restored from backup it didn't reload my old info. Instead of assuring me that I would have the option to restore my info, it would have been nice had it told me that a backup hadn't been completed and that restoring my phone without it would leave me with nothing.
Tech support had me use my old SIM card to import my old contacts. This worked, but I've entered contacts since getting the new phone that aren't on my old SIM. And doing so left me with a bunch of re-organizing to do (deleting, combining, entering First and Last name fields...) it took me several hours.
I didn't get my appointments back, cause my old phone was just a phone, and that info wasn't on the old SIM, but I'm REALLY glad I got my contacts.

  • All photos, videos, settings, and app data gone after IOS5 upgrade

Ive lost all my settings, photos, videos, emails etc. I had created a back up as always since I'm paranoid about loosing my info. My contacts remain thankfully but all my apps have been rearranged into completely random orders. I can't find some apps unless I put in a search for them.
Synching seems to do nothing to help the situation. Where could all of the data in my apps have gone? Why is it so randomly thrown on my iPhone? Anyone else experiencing this?

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • Winmail.dat : problems after iOS5 update...

Folks...  After updating to iOS5, I am finding that any JPG or pasted picture sent to me in e-mail does NOT appear on my iPhone4.  It is NOT simply a Microsoft problem, as is always stated.
If I start a mail (HTML) in Outlook, and paste an Image, and send it to my iPhone's Comcast Account, I get the winmail.dat attachment
If I start a mail (HTML) in Outlook, and paste and Image, and send it to my iPhone's Gmail account, it is read just fine and the image appears.  I have also copied my Comcast account, just to ensure the same mail....  and get the same winmail.dat result with my comcast account.
If I look at my Comcast mail account, in Outlook (Desktop), and online --- the same image is received fine and the image appears. The only place is does NOT appear is on the phone.
This seems to have something to do with how the iPhone interprets mail FROM Outlook.  There has HAD to have been a change in how this works, because it used to work just fine.
Someone at Apple:  I would appreciate a response on this.  It is very frustrating, and all signs are that it is an iOS5 thing.
    thanks
    Brandon

I did a little more searching, and found this solution on another Apple forum. It worked beautifully. It makes no sense, but who cares? It was easy and effective.
    Hope it helps!
    Yes, I did try that.
However I have now found the answer:

Once the entry for my home address was removed from the Autocomplete drop down list, everything went back to normal.

  • Photos and videos gone after ios5 update

After updating to ios 5 and doing a restore from my backup all my videos and photos that I took using the ipad are gone from my ipad. I did a full backup before starting the new update so I expected they would be there. Maybe I'm missing something.

I found this and did it myself and it worked perfectly!

  • IPhone 3GS will not activate after IOS5 update it says there is no SIM

I tried updating my iPhone 3GS to IOS5 and it is saying the activation server is temporarily unavailable and then iTunes says there is no SIM but there is.

    Here's what you do
1.Make sure your phone is not plugged into the computer.
    2. Put the iPhone into recovery mode (this is NOT DFU mode). Do this by
a). Hold down both the power/sleep button and the home button until the screen turns black/off
b). As soon as this happens release the power button but NOT the home button
c). If done correctly then the Apple logo will appear, KEEP HOLDING THE HOME BUTTON and eventually a connect to itunes graphic will appear. You can release the home button
    3. With the connect to itunes graphic on the screen, plug your phone into the computer. iTunes will start up if it is not already on, and then will say the phone needs restoring. Ignore this and COMPLETELY quit iTunes.
    4. With iTunes off and the graphic still on the phone screen, hold down both the power/sleep and the home button again for 9 seconds (count 100, 200, 300...) or until the screen goes black
    5. When the screen goes black release the home button straight away.
    6. It will start up with the iPhone activation screen ignore this. iTunes should have started up, if not do so. Go to the iPhone tab and either resotre from backup or set up as a new phone.
    You're welcome

  • Iphone keeps dipslaying no service after i updated it to ios5

iphone keeps dipslaying no service after i updated it to ios5

I may have found a solution! First, if you are having these problems, check the build of your iOS version. Go to Settings>General>About>Version. This should read 5.0.1 (9A405).
Upon closer inspection of search engines, I came accross a website titled "What is the difference between iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 and 9A406?". As it transpires, there's a great deal of difference, for us 4S users anyway.
Here's the website (I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting a link. Please let me know if I am!):
    http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971716
    The difference between these builds seems to be a fix for a problem in the iPhone 4S not recognising SIM cards. Apple's own knowledge base article states the following;
"In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:
"Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
Status bar displays "No Service" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage."
Apparently, because this is a small fix for a small number of users, the fix has not been released as iOS 5.0.2. Therefore, people who updated to 5.0.1 early, such as myself, can't simply update by checking on iTunes or Software Update. In order to receive this newer build we have to restore the phone to factory settings, confirm the build has been updated to 9A406, then restore from a backup.
I haven't attempted this yet as it may take some time, and I don't have enough until later in the week, but it anyone else tries this beforehand and finds it works, please let us know!
