IPhone 4 and update 4.0.1
On Friday I did the update out on the 4. It evidently crashed my phone. Tech support could not figure out how to get it working again. It only has the connect to iTunes screen. I am all fine with things having quirks, but when I have had my phone for 2 days and it crashes, I DO NOT feel that it should cost me $30 for shipping a replacement!! Any one else had this issue?
I've not had a problem upgrading.
FYI the $30.00 is for EXPEDITED shipping replacement. Most people don't want to be without a phone while their replacement is being shipped via snail mail.
If you don't want to deal with the whole shipping issue, bring your phone to an Apple store for warranty replacement.

i updated to iOS 6 on my iphone 4 and updated my macbook pro and now my mail is not working at all on my iPhone, whether on wifi or 3G. I can receive/send on my laptop, but not my iPhone!! Can someone help?
Which email provider are you using? If it's Gmail, try unlocking your account here: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha.

am using iphone 3gs and updated it to ios 6.1.3, after this when i restar the phone and put the sim back it said that your phone cant be avtivated because the server is temporarily unavailable, my sim is also undetected. what should i do now please help.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to use a different carrier then the update locks it back again to the original carrier.

Hey there jjroca,
It sounds like you are unable to make or recieve phone calls because the screen goes black. I would start by quitting all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If that does not resolve the issue, I would use the troubleshooting in the following article, named:

I downloaded iOS 7 onto my iPhone 4 and updated the iTunes on my PC, WiFi connection works but somewhow it won't do anything when I plug the iPhone. Now, I got frustrated that neither iTunes nor my iPhone do anything. I need my iPhone to get it back to work regardless if it's back to the last version of iOS.
I just encountered this problem for the first time and stumbled upon this forum to find a solution. I played around with it a bit and it seems that if you slide your finger from the bottom up, you will come upon that new screen that will allow you to do various functions with your phone (put it in airport mode, lock, etc.), you can select your Airport from this screen and play your music wirelessly from your phone; at least this was my experience. Restored Iphone 4 and updated to IOS7 and lost all my data and backups
Help! ): I have an Iphone 4. I could not update it becuase it had no space to update ("Other" catagory in my storage took up about 3GB) so to clean my Iphone and update it, I backed up, and did a restore. So now my phone has no data on it, so I tried to restore it from the backup i did earlier. but apperantly, since the backup was of an older IOS, it wont read it, and said it is "corrupt or not compatible". the icloud backup was no use either.
I used a program that can restore all the data that was ever on the iphone, but it cannot actualy place them in the phone, so i have some data files i dont know what to do with if that maybe helps and leads to a solution
So now all of my precious data is gone, including really important notes i really need. and i dont know what to do. please helpalso, will maybe reverting my phone to the older IOS version maybe solve this? is it even posible?

No. You must use a computer to sync and update both devices via iTunes on the computer. The iPad2 cannot replace the laptop for syncing purposes.

Camera effects are only available on the iPhone 4s and later. It sounds like Invert Colors is enabled in Accessibility. This will usually cause the whole display to reflect an inverted color scheme. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn Invert Colors off. Check to see if the camera functions as expected.

Email functions jacked-up upon activating iPhone 4 and updating to 4.0.1
While I was activating my iPhone 4, I was asked if I wanted to update to 4.0.1. I clicked "yes" and proceeded. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea and the download froze, and I had to restart the computer to get rid of the "spinning rainbow pinwheel of death". When Mac restarted, the download supposedly picked up where is left off and everything was "hunky-dory", or at least I thought it was. My email has been acting wacky ever since. I spent 12 hours yesterday trying to hash this out with the Apple Store and AppleCare to find a solution. They said that the phone probably needed to be replaced. I also went to AT&T today and had them replace the SIM card but no such luck in fixing the problem. So now, I would like to make one last ditch effort to fix this myself before sending the phone back. Is there any way to reload the original 4.0 and then update or just reload the 4.0.1 again. I think that it was corrupted due to the interruption in the download process.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked. -
