Iphone 4 battery runs completely down with no use in an hour or two.

My Iphone 4 battery, out of the blue, started running completely down in a couple hours with no use.  I would take it off the charger reading 100% and not do a thing, but the unit will get pretty warm and the battery drains.  The phone is only 3 months old and two days ago I was getting a full day to a day and a half with my ususal usage.  Anyone know what is causing this or a fix? I've tried shutting down and rebooting and for software updates?  Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, Josh

One thing to try is cleaning iPhone Dock Port with a clean dry toothbrush.
If still problem and you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution.
Another is to clean the dock port again with the toothbrush and a bit of Isopropyll Alcohol, especially clean the pins which are on top of the Dock Mid Rib.
Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone restarts itself, ignore the 'slide to power off' slider.
Restore Firmware, at end when iTunes asks, Restore as New, not from backup.

  • Is it good to let the battery run completely down?

Or should it always be plugged in? Does it wear out faster to keep charging it? I would think it would.

I agree all the way to the point of the calibration. You only need to calibrate if the battery indicator seems to be reporting the wrong information. lithium ion/polymer batteries can be damaged if you discharge all the way. I only calibrate mine when I have to, no more.

Glorfindeal... I agree completely. I actually don't remember the last time I calibrated my battery. I'm just usually a little reserved when it comes to recommending something different from what Apple says:
*Calibrate the battery in your MacBook or MacBook Pro every month or two to keep your battery functioning at its fullest capacity.*
Typically you need to really really really discharge a Li Ion/Poly battery to damage it. You basically need to let it run down until your machine won't start... and then leave it unused for a few months to let the charge drop even lower. The circuitry in the battery is specifically designed to not permit a recharge if it drops below that super-low point.
Regardless... I do the same thing... Unless I'm having a problem, I don't calibrate it. If I plan on being in a situation where I'll be using my MacBook on battery quite a bit... I'll usually let it run down just to make sure it has good battery life (as I don't do this often because it's almost always plugged in).

  • I have an IPad2.  I've received two different ideas on charging the battery.  One person indicates I should let the battery run almost down before recharging; another person indicated I should keep it charged closer to 100% .  What is the best process?

I do exactly as Thomas Reed does. Always have from day one. Going on 15 months now and I get at least 10 hours of use out the battery every day. No matter how much juice is left on the device when I go to bed - I put the iPad on the charger - doesn't matter what the battery gauge says - I plug it in and let it charge all night.

  • HT2188 IPHONE 4S BATTERY RUNNING DOWN QUICKLY

iPhone 4s battery suddenly runs down in under 2 hours of non-active (standby) use.  No idea why, this just started happening a few days ago - no new apps put in to cause this, all location services turned off, no push mail -- have done all the standard checks.  Also, the battery isn't accepting a charge from outlets plugged into the wall (only ones into the computer)--I get the lightning bolt signal at the top right, but the charge simply continues to drop.  Anyone have similar issues?

Take it to an Apple Store to be checked out.

  • IPhone 5 battery is very very bad. Used it for 2HR & 30MIN and down to 50%... Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

I got my iPhone 5 64GB last Saturday and the battery is a pile of wank!!! Does anyone have any idea what I could do to sort it? I know about brightness and wifi, I do all that! Many thanks.

Your battery experience is unusual. While I don't use my phone a lot it is on 24/7. The mists I've seen my battery run down is to abut 45% after 10 hours offi the charger.
Here's how to reset (reboot) your phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If that is what you did I suggest making an appointment at and Apple store for a consultation.

Yes but as i told you i have 3g off operator is in manual mode ( vodafone es) and no wifi or other connetion are on....
    Update of the firmware?
    Thanks
That is NOT what you said previously. You said: "I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data" We are NOT psychic. Your original statement does NOT indicate that you have 3g off.
If the phone is unable to lock onto the preferred  provider you set in manual mode, it will be constantly searching for the carrier signal. This will drastically reduce battery life. If you are out of range of the carrier you want to use, put the phone in airplane mode.

  • Iphone 5 battery suddening draining when not in use

Had my iphone 5 for about 3 months and was very pleased with the battery life. But literally out of no where the battery started draining super fast. Dropping 15% in 30 minutes when not in used. Here's the deal...nothing has changed ie locations, email, icloud etc. And quite honestly what is the freaking point of having those things if it drains the battery at unreasonable speeds. So I completely frustrated with Apple for at least not saying "we understand theres and issue and we are working on it." I will never switch cuz I'm an idiot Apple diehard but there have been so many bugs of late it's just frustrating. Also at the same time of the fast drain when I swipe to delete a text the delete button dissapears within one second. Both issues came on at the same time. I'm trying reseting the battery, restoring, unchecking notifications and a bunch of other features which is so stupid... whats the point of having a smart phone if you can't use the features? So I am going to demand a new phone and I know the Apple Genius guys who are so far from genius its pathetic are going to say nothing is wrong with the phone haha, just like the did with the super slow WiFi connections I get...they were completely unaware that there was a problem with iphones and Wifi cuz of course at the Apple Store the Wifi flies when they test it there but of course once you go back to your home or business the Wifi is back to super slow. Wow the things we put up with. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

  • Tethering with AT&T, any slow down with increased use?

I am between buying a Iphone4 and a DroidX. The tie-breaker likely is going to be tethering. Apparently on a DroidX with Verizon, after 5 gigs, the intenet slows down to a crawl, something I can't live with. I gather there is no slow down with AT&T, you just pay more, $10 per gig. Do I have that right? Does tethering the Iphone4 work as well as a wireless card? Thanks.

It works fine...did I mention it was EXPENSIVE!

  • The iPhone 4S battery runs down very quickly.   Does anyone else have this problem?

The battery in my new iPhone 4s runs down very quickly.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Location services is NOT running all the time, only when the arrow appears in the message bar. It is not a major consumer of power unless you are actively using it (such as using the Maps app), and even then it is a minor factor in battery life; loading maps is the big user of power in the Maps app. And turning off Location Services defeats Find my iPhone.
There are only 2 heavy battery consumers, cellular data and interactive games. Everything else (bluetooth, location services, WiFi, etc) are tiny in comparison to these and will not make a significant difference in battery life.

  • Why does my iPhone 5 battery runs dead after only 5 hours in standby?

My brand new iPhone 5 runds completely dead after only 5 hours standby.
I might have done 2 or 3 calls, I switched off all the apps that are running in the background.
Wifi and bluetooth are on, and should stay on.
My old iPhone4 could work almost 2 days without recharging....
I have looked at different blogs and websites and set most of those tips and tricks, but without success... my phone is 1 day old and already synced....
Is there something big that I'm overlooking?

also recalibrate the battery, let if fully drain to where your phone shuts off and then fully charge it without using it.

  • IPhone is warm & battery is draining quickly with NO use

    I have a 3GS 16G - less than a year old.
The last couple of days, it's felt excessively warm to the touch and the battery is draining REALLY fast. It's got less than a quarter of battery life right now and it's only noon. It is not in use right now either - I think I've made one phone call today and was on Facebook a bit earlier this morning, but I don't overuse it.
    Any thoughts?

Wounds as if you have something stuck that is running. Do you have email set to check at specific intervals? Have you tried any of the user troubleshooting? Try to cycle the power, by turning the phone off/on. If that doesn't do it, you could do a reset, which does not affect data, hold the home and power buttons down together until you see the Apple logo and then release, ignoring the slide to power off screen. See if that takes care of it.

  • IPhone 3G screen response slowing down with OS updates

My iPhone is getting slower with every new update of the OS. Sliding bar, received SMS list...generally every screen presentation now takes 1 or more seconds to display. This has only slowed down after the last couple of OS updates. Not happy...it used to have an instant response. Is the new programming for the new iPhone 4 included slowing down the OS for iPhone 3G?

iOs4x definitely does slow down a 3G. The 3G just doesn't have a powerful enough processor.
One trick that seems to make a big difference is to switch off Spotleight indexing. Go to Settings, General, Spotlight Search amd deselect all items.

  • No low battery warning / shutting down with no warning

My macbook has shut itself down about 6 times when it is on a low-ish power status, and before the 'attach power' warning appears.
There doesn't appear to be anything on the support pages for this - the only ones I can find are from 2006 and relate to the old Macbook. I think it is something to do with the SMC firmware (which I have the most up-to-date - 1.38f5).
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there anything I can do?
    Thanks
    Paul

please check it out with this utility & report back: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/
I think your battery is bad but you can also try the smc & pram reset.
    SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
PRAM: Hold Command Option P R at startup until you hear the chime twice.

  • My macpro is not being able to connect for battery charging and could not be open since the battery is completely down

    my battery is not charging

It still should work with the power adapter connected.  If not, then an appointment at an Apple store genius bar is your best option.
    Ciao.
