IPhone 4 Bumper Scratches

Apple was kind enough to send me a bumper for my new iPhone. I read something online about the bumper scratching the iPhone. Should I ignore these reports? Or is it true?

It's true, but it's not scratches.
Imagine rubbing a plastic cup agenst a stainless steel sink over and over for days.... Well pretty much the same thing will happen to the stainless steel band on the iPhone.
I purchased the Zagg maximum protection kit and applied the rubberish protectors that are suppose to go on the metal band of the iPhone to the inside of the bumper.. BAM problem solved.
But any rubberish tape should work(make sure you pick one that doesn't leak glue when it gets warm from your hands.

Right I'm afraid this is yet another iPhone bumper complaint. But I need some additional help or support.
Right I brought my iPhone 4 last august and has just expired it's warranty, I do not have any additional cover plans either. In late august 2010 I signed up for my free iPhone bumper to help improve my signal issues. I have recently taken off my bumper to discover my steel antenna band unfortunately scratched quite bad. I've inspected the bumper inside and I've seen like a small peice of rough plastic sticking out and a scratch Mark in the same position on the iPhones band, and there are other scratches from the case too.
Now I would like to know if I could get my antenna band replaced by apple? Free or at a cost? Also does anybody know of an email address I can use to contact apple or the correct phone number as I cannot make sense of their 'contact me' section on their website, I'm from the UK. An email would be preferred if possible. I have also seen on some discussions that people have had their iPhones replaced weather apple still do this I don't know? So any feedback would be so greatly appreciated as I'm disappointed my phone now looks like this as i will be looking to upgrade to the new iPhone and sell this one.

All cases scratch all iPhones, from the Original to the iPhone 4. This is a side-effect of the overall protection they provide. Dust dirt and debris get inside the case and cause abbrasions, there is really no way to avoid this, cleaning helps but can't stop every bit of wear.
Put the bumper back on your iPhone, it will protect it, and make it look nice.

Will the iPhone 5 scratch easily when I fit the case as my case is make of metal?

It seems as if plastic contacting the metal band may leave some marks. I know my Otterbox Commuter case has left some by the speaker grilles. This post is a bit unfortunate since I decided to order a bumper not too long ago.
You could buy a screen protector that comes with band protection, or some band protectors.

hi i know people are going to say how can plastic scratch metal but before i put bumper on i clean it wit iphone cleaning cloth and clean iphone antenna but it still scratches i rang apple and they said they would give me a new bumper however these scratches have significantly de-vauled my iphone 4. what are my option and could i get a new phone also would cleaning iphone antenna with alcoholic swab damage the antenna

The rubber bumper cannot scratch the iPhone. However, the bumper does not make a hermetic seal with the iPhone, and dirt/dust/crud can get between the iPhone surface and the bumper...and that can scratch the iPhone. The proper iPhone technique is included in the User's Guide, and that's available online. I would not expect that alcohol would damage the antenna, however, it is likely that alcohol would deteriorate the oleophobic coating on the iPhone screen.

Yes, it was dirt or something. From the very first iPhone three years ago, I've always used cases on my phones. Not one of them has ever been able to protect the phone from being scratched. Dirt and dust is everywhere and face it, were talking about a phone that will not last forever. It's only a phone.

What's the best case/holster to use WITH iPhone Bumper?

So on friday i got my iphone 5, i was sooooo excited as i'd been saving up for it for like.. ages!
i got the white 32gb, and i noticed on the back at the top of the aluminium under the camera there's like a scuff mark.. it's not that noticeable.. but it's there.. i thought it was dirt.. so i tried wiping it off even though my phone is ALWAYS in a case.. and it didn't come off.. i just assumed i had a mark in the aluminium.. but today i have found yet another mark... this time a scratch in the glass.. i know i haven't made these marks cause i have been sooo careful with my iphone! afterall £600 for this phone is SO expensive!!!
I looked on the internet and discovered 30-40% of iphone 5's are arriving marked and scratched! OMG!! Couldn't believe it
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? And also how is the battery life of you iphone 5? and mine gets ridiculously hot!

But if you must, and you want no scratches, you will need something like the Otter Box Defender or the LifeProof case.
But they all make the phone much bigger. I use the Otterbox, I like the extra bulk and protection.

Which sand paper works best for iPhone 5 scratches

I dropped my iPhone 5S and it got scratched at its bottom and side near ear phone jack.
I want to use a sanding paper to smooth it out.
Which number of sanding paper would work best?

please refrain from taking sandpaper to your iphone 5s. if it bother you that much, i would love to take it off your hands.

I would just recommend buying a luxurious case and covering it up if it bothers you so much.

Iphone 4 scratching

Hello, recently I recieved my Iphone 4 a week ago. While at a friends pool, I decide to leave my iphone 4 on a side table. My iphone overheated and recieved the temperature warning on the phone. Realizing this Iimmediatly pulled my phone out of its case(Incase slider for Iphone 4) and set it in a sunless area to cool down. My phone seemed okay after that day but 3 days later I started noticing small scrathes on my iphones front glass panal. These scratches were odd due to the fact that I have not done anything rough with my phone. I take good care of it and make sure to cover the front sceen with a microfiber cloth wherever i go(yes it sems strange but i hate finger prints on the screen). I deduced that it was scratched from daily use. So all in all, my question is that is it possible the overheating could have made the front glass panel more suspectable to scratching?

This is very interesting. The same thing happened to me as far as the overheating, i had left the phone in my shoe while playing soccer and was unable to use it only after it had cooled off! I do not see any scratches anywhere on my screen, could just be a freak occurrence or something wrong with the phone. Even in a technologically advanced world that we live in it is possible to make a product that isn't always 100% perfect. Although Apple does do a good job about 99.9% of the time!

Can iPhone 5 scratches be repaired without Apple Care?

I have a few scratches and chips around the edges of my iPhone 5 and am looking to get it repaired. I read in that Apple's 1 year warranty doesn't cover accidental damage to the phone like i've done. Can anyone help me with what the best way to get this repaired would be? And how much Apple charges for simple cosmetic repairs to your iPhone 5.

They don't do simple cosmetic repairs. They will charge you $229 to do an out-of-warranty replacement of the iPhone but I'm not sure they will do it for cosmetic reasons but you can always make a Genius Bar appointment and ask. If they won't buy a case while you are there.

IPhone 5 scratch on camera

i have recently noticed a little scratch on my iphone's rear facing camera and is really annoying when taking photos. I don't think I have any warranty so please help!! I really don't know what to do

the lens that you see on the back of the iPhone 5 is in the back case. the "lens" is more like a window.
on the 4/4s, you can get a new lens and replace the lens. really easy on the 4/4s.
for the 5, it looks almost like the same thing where you can replace the lens or that top section. but it can be a little more complicated and more tight to get in back there.
ask the apple store if they'll do it for you. if you're still under warranty, ask apple. if not under warranty anymore, and if you don't like the repair prices that the apple store may give you, you can ask an outside repair shop, or you can try to do it yourself. note, if you get an outside repair shop to replace anything on your iphone 5, or if you do it yourself, then apple may refuse to do any other repair work on your iphone 5.
my suggestion is to first see if your iphone 5 qualifies for the free battery replacement and the free sleep/wake (power) button replacement. get that done and ask if they will replace the back lens at the same time even if you have to pay for that.

IPhone 4 scratch on glass...

Hi, I got my iPhone 4 today. Everything works fine but when I removed the plastic film I noticed a curved scratch (white colored) in the lower center of the screen. I tried to clean it thinking it could be some kind of glue but it is not and I can actually feel the little scratch when I pass my finger.
Called ATT and they can't do anything. Called Apple and had to hang up after a 45 minute wait. Tried to post at the technical support site and by the end it said "Sorry we can not process your request at this time"... Is there a direct line to report DOA problems? (well this is practically no DOA, it works fine but it's not cool to have a scratch on your brand new phone)....
Any ideas on how to proceed with this?

Take it to an Apple store ASAP. I had a dent in my Macbook Pro when I got it and they replaced it without any questions. I had to wait for one at the time but well worth it and make sure you do it within 14 days. At least that is the policy at our Apple store here.
