IPhone 4 - cannot call or text
My iPhone 4 suddenly stopped being able to make calls or send texts. I was able to perform these functions no less than 30 minutes ago in a location close to my apartment, but now that I'm home, these functions don't seem to be working anymore.
I've tried rebooting the phone several times, switching the WiFi network on and off, and also tried all of Apple's suggestions in the Troubleshooting section regarding this issue -- but nothing seems to work!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would really be appreciated!
Calls and texts (not imessage) are a carrier function. Do you have a good signal from your carrier in your house ?

For what silly reason would any intelligent person believe that changing an Apple ID password would have any affect on iMessage?

IPhone 5 Calls and Texts Failing
I have been having this issue since upgrading to an IPhone 5. This problem is especially frustrating as my husband and daughter use the same carrier (AT&T) and have an Iphone 5S and an Iphone 4S respectively with no problems. My problem seems to have been exacerbated by the latest update (7.1.2) and affects me the most in or near my home or other rural areas. I can literally sit and watch them talk away (even if they call the same person I was talking to) but I repeatedly drop to Edge or get "Call Failed" which is what leads me to believe it is my phone. I also have to make multiple attempts to send a text message because they often fail also. I have done everything Apple has asked, including sending them diagnostics info (where the customer service rep claimed she didn't see any of my dropped calls). I recently "reset the phone as new" and not from a backup, again with no results (and now no contacts either, woo hoo!). I have also had my SIM card replaced and reseated twice. I turn LTE off and Data Roaming off as some forums have suggested. AT&T has confirmed my account is set up correctly. I finally started looking into the problem myself, or specifically, looking for the differences between my phone and the others. The articles I found regarding the first Iphone 5's released is that they did not support the 1700 MHz cell phone frequency used by T-Mobile. At first I figured that didn't have anything to do with me but when I read more about the people who'd tried to use the first Iphone 5 on T-Mobile their symptoms were the same: multiple call failures and switching straight to Edge (which is 2G) instead of 3G. I looked at the coverage area maps in my area, and, surprisingly, T-Mobile's signal is stronger near my house than AT&T. My guess is my family's phones roam to T-Mobile while mine stays with AT&T's lower 2G signal and then drops. Of course Apple quietly stopped making the Iphone 5 that didn't support 1700 MHz/T-Mobile (Oops!). I am having trouble posting the link here but here is one of the shorter articles about it:
As you all know by now, T-Mobile will begin offering the iPhone 5 officially from Friday this week (April 12). But, some of you will already have your own iPhones, and could be tempted to switch to the carriers attractive price plans. In years gone by, iPhones haven’t supported the Magenta-flavored 3G/HSPA+ bandwidths, leaving iPhone wielding Tmo customers stuck on a slow EDGE network. With the iPhone 5, it’s changed. There’s a chance that your device is compatible.
If you have an A1428 model iPhone 5, it will connect to T-Mobile’s AWS bands (1700/2100), here’s how to check if yours does:
Go to Settings –> General –> About.
Check the last 4 digits of your serial number to see if they match these combinations:

FH1D
FH1F
FH1G
FH1H
You can also locate your iPhone 5 box and verify that the label includes “1700/2100″ under the UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA bands.
I would really be interested to know if those of you having trouble have the "old" Iphone5 like I do (serial numbers that end in other digits, mine ends with DTTN). Maybe once we present Apple with irrefutable evidence and numbers they will give us the newer version of the phone. The phone that won't support T-Mobile also won't support many international networks either for those of us that travel internationally.
If not, I guess that's what I get for getting the device early (I usually try not to as there is always some kind of bug). I just really needed the upgrade as my husband was going to Iraq and could IMessage me over wifi without paying an arm and a leg.
Please let me know if anyone else is having the same problem with the same (older) Iphone 5 (check your serial number against the list above).It would be worth getting a new SIM, just to see if that helps any. You may want to contact your carrier and have them double-check things with your account.
I know the SIM works on another device, but getting a new one is still worth a shot. Get one, restore your phone as new & try one more time. If still no joy, you may have a defective phone that needs to be replaced.

Jabber for iPhone cannot call over Expressway. Expressway says: Bad Extension

I've had Expressway working but now calls from/to Jabber for iPhone fail with a message "Bad Extension" in Expressway-E.
Is there someone that is willing to share the search rules of Expressway-E required that are required for Jabber to make/receive calls. I think I accidentally deleted one or changed one.

ErikYes, I got an answer from TAC and it is was the solution to my problem.
It had to do with announcing IPv6 support by the clients. (header "Requires: anat")
By creating a new Common Device Configuration that disables IPv6 (IP Addressing Mode), thus IPv4 only, and assigning this common device configuration to all devices using MRA, solved my problem.

IPhone cannot send broadcast text messages?
I could not send a text message to multiple recipipents at once. Anybody knows a way to do this?

IPhone Cellular Calls option not available
I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1, as well as my MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 to Yosemite 10.10. However, I don't see the option in my FaceTime settings (both on the iPhone or the MacBook) to turn on iPhone Cellular Calls. Text message forwarding works, but I don't see any option for iPhone Cellular Calls where they should be. Both devices are connected to the same wifi network. Both are signed in using the same Apple ID. I've restarted both devices multiple times and the option still does not appear anywhere. What could be wrong?

Hi. My iphone screen has totally frozen I went to slide across to use my phone and the arrow is stuck to the right and the screen is fixed. The time is frozen I have tried turning the power off but i can't even do this. I cannot receive calls or texts. Please help!!!

hello. my phone is factory unlocked.

ios 7.0.4There aren't any supported carriers in Pakistan. Apple hasn't released the iPhone there. The OP is using a grey-market iPhone and hence is pretty much on his/her own as regards getting this phone working with the carrier, unless that carrier can help.

I have two IPhones and one IPad all with the same Apple ID. I can call facetime between the two IPhones, but I cannot call the IPAD from either of the IPhones and when I call my IPhone from the IPad it rings my wife's IPhone after briefly calling mine.
Each device needs a separate address. Use an email address (gmail.com) on the iPad.

My sister and I have/had an iPhone this week she upgraded and went to an android. Now she cannot receive my text. I have put her phone number as a mobile device. Deleted previous iMessages and started a new thread she still cannot receive my text. Please tell me how this can be resolved
the fastest way is to call applecare and they can remove her number from iMessage/facetime.

Hi my work Blackberry can text my personal iphone 4S, but this iphone cannot then text reply back to the BB (using SMS).
Both devices are on Verizon network and have independent phone #s. Voice calls are no problem either way, but text msg from the iphone to BB is the problem. This same iphone have no issues 2-way texting another iphone or a LG Cosmos 2 "flip phone" in the family. I've tried a) turning off the iphone's wifi; b) toggle iMessage on or off; c) resetting the network; and d) turning the iphone on/off but so far no success.This is a BlackBerry 9930 on 7.1.0.1066. I've only recently tried texting between this BB and the iphone, so there were no prior succcesses sending from iphone to the BB.

so i walked back over to my table and saw it looked like i had a text that just came it and it was this message that said "Repair needed, iPhone cannot make or receive calls". no service, restarted the phone and its all good now.
fluke or do i need to be calling apple?
going to an apple store isnt exactly easy for me now (nearest one is an hour away, after aug 11 ill be really close to one though)
the threads i found via search on this were either no answers or just "restore it and if it happens again call apple".
i do have a habit of getting dud phones every time i get a cell phone (first razr needed to be replaced right out of the box, first gen iphone the home button wore out in 4 weeks so i was kind of hoping 3rd time would be the charm, not sure though)

-mattThis same thing happened to me last night. Same error and when I tried to restore I kept getting the 1604 error. I was working and it happened around 11:00pm. I setup an appointment with the 5th Ave. store in NYC for 2:10am. I get there and one guy tells me it will be covered under my warranty. The "genius" tells me something is caught in the headphone jack and that they can't get the spill detector in there to verify if it's spill damage and that I'm up the creek. So, $199 for a 1st gen 8GB or $199 for a new 8GB 3G. I'm really upset about this as I didn't have a working phone and that's not very conducive to my line of work and I'm told I yet again need to spend more money. There was nothing I could do and they wouldn't budge I ended up getting a new 16GB White 3G today, but I'm not happy with this outcome. The new phone is nice, but I really thought long and hard about sticking with my original iPhone till next year. I hope that you outcome is much brighter At least I didn't have to wait in line today. I walked right into the 14th St. store and they said they had 2 16GB's if I was interested in one and I took it.

Cannot text out, only incoming texts but cannot call and Verizon's Chat is not working (I'm in Gabon Africa). Why?
Using iPhone 5 and was able to send and receive texts and calls up top about ten days ago. Nothing else has changed as far as I know.
