IPhone 4 cases:  How much protection do you think it needs?

Got my iPhone 4. Luckily, it works perfectly so far.
But I do think the phone looks much more fragile and breakable than my old 3G.
Now, I don't mind a thin, attractive case because I'm slightly clutzy and it's gonna drop out of my pocket a few times, this I know.
So I bought a case from a mall vendor that's no name but seems well made -- thin silicone that covers the back and the sides. $15. Do I need to do better?
My question(s) to everyone are... how thick and sturdy do you think we need to go to protect the iphone 4 from a drop? And what is the best case material for withstanding a fall? Is there something you've found that is not too bulky and industrial looking -- or does it need to be thick and padded to be truly protective?
And can I avoid spending $30 on a case (or that Apple bumper thing) and feel like my phone is protected?
I know nothing about this stuff so would love some opinions. Thanks!

  • With my current setup how much ram do you think I would be using up?

Hey Apple Community!!!!! Recently bought my first Apple Product, a couple months back bought a 13in Macbook Pro and so far I love it but recently have been having some wierd issues. I am a Green Horn with a capital "G" when it comes to apple software so I am not sure where to even begin.
When I bought my Mbp I also purchased 16gb ddr3 of ram separately from a reputable dealer that I installed when I got the mbp. I use this strictly for school and thats it and I am very good with computers, well PC anyways (I have other pc's for whatever else I want to do). I installed VMWare Fusion along with Windows 7 ultimate as I am studying computer programming and the programs I need to run are windows based. However it seems to me like I have alot of stuff in the Ram pretty much all the time. Like usually less than 1gb is free, maybe 2 or 3 gbs free and not much is wired. Alot (like usually around 10 gb or more) is Active. Sometimes when I remove the usb receiver for my wireless mouse the whole computer will shut down and restart but I cant make heads or tails of the report it gives me. It also seems to be getting slower at times. The little rainbow circle that takes over the mouse pointer when something is loading is becoming a closer friend than I would like lol. Any ideas on some programs or registry repairs(if the mac even has registry I thought I read somewhere it does not, at least not in the same sense as pc based). Really trying to keep a little amount of stuff off this thing as possible I would like this to last through school.

I also have 16GB of RAM and when I'm running a lot of apps and not restarting for days on end, my RAM usage in Activity Monitor can look like this:
Usually a restart will free up a lot of RAM - even though I do keep dozens of apps open at once
So that's nothing to worry about.
I have no idea why you're having 'beachballing' - take a look at ds store's user tip - Step by Step to fix your Mac. Maybe you can come up with some ideas there.

  • How much memory do you think I'll want?

I've never owned an Apple machine, but I've been looking at buying a laptop for a long time and am considering the new 13-inch Macbook. I know 512 MB is too little for OS X, so I'm trying to gauge whether I'd want 1 GB or 2 GB of RAM.
I'll be downloading my digital camera photos, etc, and maybe even messing with a little digital video one day. I'm also a software developer by trade, but I don't see myself wanting to do work with this machine for the forseeable future, although I'm wondering if the machine would get sluggish if I tried to load up Eclipse and Tomcat on 1 GB of RAM. Like I said, I really expect to just be browsing the web with it most of the time and don't plan on using it for my job or anything like that, so I'm willing to put up with any reasonable drop in performance as long as it's not painful!
And one more thing: is the RAM sold by Crucial actually different from the sticks sold by Apple?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I bought a Mac mini and thanks to a shipping error my RAM upgrade arrive 4 days later so I had plenty of time to play with the stock machine before upgrading it to 1 GB. I found that one memory hog PPC program and Rosetta could pretty much take up all the memory that the OS wasn't using. Running Word and Photoshop Elements 4 didn't make either program run slower (to my perception) but there was a noticeable lag switching from one to the other. Add Safari and Mail and you could feel the machine slow down.
But while running just Universal apps I found that 512 was a decent amount of RAM. In other words, I could have Safari, Mail, Pages, and iWeb running and the computer just jogged along like a little trouper.
Once the upgrade was installed the computer literally became another animal. Running multiple PPC applications didn't faze it. I eventually forced it to the wall but the combination of programs and activities weren't something I'd ordinarily do. Typical for me is Safari, Entourage, Filemaker, iPulse, DragThing, SpamSieve, QuicKeys, Pages, and iTunes. The mini with 1 MB is happy with that.

I have an iPhone 5S, with iOS 8.1.2  I am trying to do a system restore but the message I get on the desktop is that there is not enough room on the iPhone. How much room is required?
I had an important app. (Memos by bluemarblesoftware.com) that I accidentally deleted. It of course had many memos, some with quite a lot of information. I did sync my phone on a regular basis and I think the memos should be on the desktop computer. I tried to do a restore function but I got a message saying there was not enough room on the iPhone. How much room is needed?

    generally you need 1.90gb
what you can do is back up your phone to your computer before doing the update, just as a precaution.

  • Broken IPhone 6 how much will it cost for a refurbishment phone

broken IPhone 6 how much will it cost for a refurbishment phone?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

Not a slam dun at all..
You may get about $200 for both..
Sounds like a slam dunk to me.  While I think a person would get MORE than $200 for both phones, the new phone starts at $199 (16gb).  Now if  you're talking about buying the new phone outright, that's a different story and I would agree that you're right.

  • How much data do you generally use a month?

Hi everybody. So i am another guy who's getting the iphone 5 at a discount price.. .
I know they are gonna take my unlimmited data away, and i'll be force to choose the 2GB/$30 a moth, so i was curious too know how much data do i use per month, if 2GB was enough for me. It seems like it, i use 500 MB average a month. But having LTE means more speed, more data, so hopefully 2GB will cover my needs. How about you guys? how much data do you use a month?

My usage patterns vary, but 1-5GB a month is normal for me.
Note that people who participate on forums may not be a good representation of the general population.  We tend to use our mobile technology so much that we are on our carriers' forums.
Also more likely to use our mobile data plan to access those forums. I know I do.
As for usage. 2-6 GB per month depending how much I use it.

  • How much MB do you need to update to iOS 6.1.3

How much MB do you need to update to iOS 6.1.3?

You'll need more space to install.
Do you not have enough free storage space?
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • How much time do you spent in Vocals Recording and Mixing?

I would like to know, how much time do you spent in Vocals Recording and Mixing?
I mean, you do doubles and then the are not that correct you record it again and maybe a third version and then you mix it, you cut and arrange some phrases and words so that it is in sync .....
How much time do you spent in this process until you say: This is enough! Because, somehow. you can always do more and try harder and do it again and try this ....
    Thanks to all your comments

If it's taking a singer longer than that, they are not prepared, or it's just not their day
or theyre just so completely horrible to start with and have no business singing in the first place, hahahaha.
sorry jim, i couldnt help it:-)
the better paying and the higher profile the gig, theres really a gamut of singers youll encounter. theres a very well known pop artist i work with that honestly doesnt even get CLOSE to usable vocs until theyve been in there warming up for around 6hrs (takes them this long to get the four other very loud overtones in their voice down to about ONE very loud overtone), and you take takes on them just because you never know. (seriously, 6hrs) but you do it because it pays really well, whats a day of time when you get it back a few times over?? (btw, with this person, theres usually about 20-25 takes to go through when comping a voc, so make that TWO days:-( )
that would be my biggest gauge of how long i spend honestly, the money, unless i have a personal investment in it myself. youll know pretty quickly if youre in trouble or not with a singer. if theyre bad (pitch or timing) but paying well, i will rely on my skills in melodyne to save the day:-) i know what i can do in it and can hear what the singer can or cant do with their voice. sad thing is, the best singers usually arent the ones with record deals.
i know the money gauge prob sounds cold, but for the most part thats the deciding factor. of course there are times you come across real talent and take the experience of working and creating with them over the money, but MOST of the time in this 'business' we dont always have that luxury. plus if youre just starting out, i would take just about ANY gig just to be able to do it and gain the experience, you dont want a really important gig being your maiden voyage in melodyne:-)
i would also go with jims recommendation in melodyne. MD studio lets you use key commands to work (plugin doesnt) and its actually sounds better than the plug itself.
as far as mixing, i cant answer that, i usually dont mix. i will if im the last resort. i would be really discouraged if i couldnt get the mix in a day, with a relisten and tweaks the next day for a couple hours. i sort of mix as i go along just so i can hear everything in its place.
my 2 cents is done with now:-)

  • How much time do you get on video on I pad

How much time do you get on video on the IPad 2?

Can't really answer that.  It depends on how much storage space you have. A 16Gb iPad will obviously have less space to store a video than a 64GB iPad.
The only limitation is your storage space.
At about 100KB per second you are looking at many many hours even on a 16GB iPad.

  • I have iphone 32gb how much icloud  storage y need

I have iphone 32gb how much icloud storage i need?

Music on your phone is either purchased from iTunes or synced from a computer. If from iTunes, it doesn't use your iCloud allocation and can be redownloaded from the store if necessary, if from your computer then it is already elsewhere.
I'm not suggesting your use will be identical to mine but I have the 32 GB phone I use less than 1 GB for syncing documents and data, however I back up to iTunes rather than iCloud, but if I did back up to iCloud, I'd need about 4 GB.

  • How much MBs of "SDRAM" do i need? Also, differnece between 2.16GHz?

To do photo editing, VERY MILD video editing, and some 3D gaming (but not HARDCORE 24/7) how much MBs of SDRAM do i need? Are the 128MB (or some near amount) of SDRAm enough???
    Q2::::
What is the difference between 2.16GHz and 2.33GHz?
What can i do with the 2.33 that i cant do with the "2.16"?
I WILL RATE GOOD ANSWERS, GO!

Rendering video does not use the video card since those are not done in real time, so improved video card will not improve video rendering for large processes (although it might help display them).
The difference between 2.33 and 2.16 is almost unnoticeable and there's nothing you can do with one you cant do with the other. They've been making chips for 30 years with slight differences like this and the best 'bang for your buck' is almost always the lower speed, the fastest is more for computer addicts to always want the best regardless of whether they can use it.

  • How much computing horsepower do I really need to use iMovie?

How much computing horsepower do I really need to use iMovie effectively?  I'm trying to make a one-hour movie from HD camcorder clips and still images.  My iMac 24 with Intel Core 2 Duo running at 2.33 GHz and 2 GB of RAM severely bogs down and regularly locks up or crashes.  Now that I've painfully managed to insert all of the video clips and still images, my iMac won't play the video back smoothly so that I can edit the work.  Within a second or two, the video either stops or becomes extremely jerky, while the audio continues to play.
Do I really need an $8000 MacPro 12-Core computer running at 3.3 GHz, with 32 GB of RAM, twin, 2 TB hard drives, and a $1000 27-inch Apple display, or will something less costly work fine for producing videos?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Joe

Thanks for your reply, Klaus1.  I'm currently running Snow Leopard.  I'd considered upgrading to Lion but was told, even by Apple, that I wouldn't be satisfied with its slow performance on my iMac 24.
I have plenty of hard drive space with 160 GB available on my internal hard drive, but I've been storing the archived video clips and the iMovie projects on a fire-wired, external 2 TB drive.  Could it be that using an external hard drive for the iMovie project is part of the performance problem?
A quick check on the Apple website shows that my iMac 24, which was manufactured in mid-2007, can support up to 4 GB of RAM.  I wonder if I should consider a RAM upgrade before upgrading the entire computer.  How big a deal is it to replace RAM in the iMacs?
