IPhone 4 Causing WiFi to drop

Every time I connect my iPhone 4 to my WIFI network at home it drops. it dosent happen right away, sometimes it take an hour or two. The network has 2 MacBook Pros iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4 and a PC.
a Quick power cycle of the router will fix this, lately I have jus kept the wifi off on the iPhone, I have also reset the network settings on the iPhone and still no change. Using a netgear router with the latest firmware. Any thoughts?... Thanks

I had a similar problem about 6 months ago. What I did was changed the password authentication from WPA to WPA2 in the router itself, which has worked since, without any problems.
Good Luck!

    1. Did this just start randomly, or have you ever been able to connect to this network?
    2. Does this phone connect to other wifi networks?
    3. What is the strenght of the wifi connection when you are close to the router (1-3 bars)?
Try to isolate and see if this is just an issue with just this network. If so, and you have access to the settings on the router, I would test out with no security or a different chanel. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 gives all of the recomended settings for wifi networks so that the phone should work optimally with that network
If you are having this same issue with all wifi networks and have gone through a full restore of the phone to new, then you likely have a hardware issue with your phone and may need to look at repair/replacement to resolve this.

  • IPhone makes my wifi router drop it's signal

When I drain my iPhone completly & plug it in to charge (USB wall charger not USB port on laptop), after the 5-10 mins with the red lightening screen when the phone comes back on my wifi router drops it's signal, this has been happening for a while now so I got into the habit of turning wifi off on iPhone just before it was due to completly die so when it came back on the router didn't drop it's signal & it wasn't that much of a problem doing this once a week.
However things are getting worse now, if I leave my house & my wifi is on, when I return home it's doing the same thing & making the router drop out. I can't be messing around turning wifi on & off everytime I return home.
I have also just had to reset my iPhone & once again when it turned back on the router dropped out.
Anyone any idea why it's doing this & how to stop it other than turning wifi on & off?

Thanks for that, just checked & I'm running the latest firmware version already
for info it's a Belkin wireless G plus router, model number FSD7231-4 version 1212uk

  • How can I tell what is causing wifi to drop - airport express light is green (iPad can find network, but no internet connection) and TWC cable modem has usual lights glowing?

Everything seems normal, except getting the internet connection. I have an old airport express - 802.11g

Is it the iPad that is the only device that cannot connect to the Internet....and other wireless devices can connect OK.....or.....is it a case of none of the wireless devices being able to connect to the Internet?
One of the potential issues here is that the iPad cannot be used to make any configuration changes to the older version of the AirPort Express that you have, so hopefully you have another Mac there that could be used to make any changes if needed.

  • My iPod touch gen5 wifi keeps dropping out. All the other iPods, iPads and iPhones don't in the house, just the iPod touch gen 5, entering the password every time is a pain, why can't it have a button to remember password like all the other devises.

My iPod touch gen5 wifi keeps dropping out. All the other iPods, iPad, and iPhone 4's don't in the house.
Why doesn't it remember the wifi password like the other i devises, it's a bugger entering it in every time.

You late question did get answered:on the 18th of this month. Sounds like you did not like the answers. Starting a new post without mentioning yur first post wastes people time
My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

  • IPhone 6 - Wifi always dropping, nightmare to reconnect

I wasn't allowed to post in any iPhone community for some bizarre reason..but I'm having serious trouble with my iPhone 6 and wifi.
The connection drops constantly and then it takes around 15 minutes of continuously clicking to get it to reconnect. This has happened since the moment I took it out of the box, and it took me over an hour before I was even able to progress through the initial setup (there was no skip wifi setup the first time round!).
I get the 'unable to connect' and 'incorrect password' messages over and over, despite the password being correct (as it always eventually does connect). If I leave my phone unattended for a second then it will disconnect, and it will never connect automatically when I get home. To get it working, I literally have to toggle airplane mode around 100 times and continuously click our wifi until finally it decides to connect. When connected though, the wifi works great. But it disconnects so often (every time I pick up my phone) and it takes so, so long to reconnect that it's basically unusable.
    - Handset has been changed, so it's not a hardware issue with the phone.
    - Software all up to date, on the phone and the router.
    - Router is standard from TalkTalk (Huawei HG523a), but it works so great and fast for every other device (iPhone 5s, Macbook Pro) and hasn't ever lost connection with those, so I'm assuming the hardware is also fine with that.
    - Tried all the usual things on the phone - 'reset network settings', restoring (as new and NOT from iCloud backup), etc.
    - Made sure all my internet settings match these: iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support.
It seemed to connect fine to the wifi in the Apple store when I got the phone changed for a new one, to which I was advised my problem might be specific to password protected wifi's....? Any help would be appreciated. I'm not buying a new router just so my iPhone 6 connects better - iPhone 4 and 5 connect fine, so why doesn't the 6?

So, how would your question relate to the products that we support in this forum pictured below? The iOS experts do not hang out here.
If you cannot post in the iPhone support forum, try a post in the iPad support forum, since iOS is the same on both the iPhone and iPad

  • IPhone 6 freezing after WiFi signal drops

Anyone else having recurring OS freezing and hanging problems after a sudden WiFi signal drop?
The phone seems fine on WiFi for a period of time, sometime hours, sometimes days but then all of a sudden the signal strength drops to one and everything goes crazy.  Trying to turnoff WiFi from the control center doesn't have any effect (it looks like it's off but the wifi indicator remains on).  If I try an go into the settings app, it comes up as a blank white page and hangs.  Sometimes I can go back to the home screen, sometimes not but the phone will freeze up solid or eventually reboot.  If it reboots or I do a hard reset the wifi switch is grayed out and can not be enabled.
If I perform another hard reset the wifi switch will sometimes be accessible again but the phone seem unstable.  It will reboot randomly or simply freeze up.  The last time it froze on the apple boot screen and I had to put the phone into recovery mode to restore it.
I have iOS 8.1.1 installed and have done a dozen hard resets and restored as a new phone from iTunes twice in the past week.  It's driving me nuts because the phone just seems unstable.

I have reset the modem everytime this happened. That is why I believe this could be a software problem between iOS 8 or iPhone 6 wifi and the band in which the airport express communicates.
Today I have disabled the airport express and began using the wifi from the HUB of my internet provider. So far no drops on wifi signal no freezing, no crashing. Connectivity seems much faster and clean now. Lets hope it keeps this way.

  • Iphone 5 no wifi

Ok, have iphone 5 for like 5 month. This summer it dropped to water.... and i turn it off... left it to dry...etc.
After that, obviesly my iphone was out of garanty, so i took it a part and try to clean it and fix it cause i had a bit of knowledge on electronics. Before i put it a part iphone didnt show any signs of life. After i clean it and put it back together i notice that screen was flickering and later when i put screen a part i found there was a scracth on lcd (probobly from hit on rock in water)... so i boght a new screen from apple and assemble it all together. The important thing to remember is that then wifi was working. Now, when i bought new lcd everything is fine, i can call, take pictures, use iphone as new, but there is no WIFI icon or i can find any available networks. No icon on screen and when i click on wireles search.. its like searching for a couple of seconds then finds nothing. I tried reseting network settings and iphone settings, but nothing, So i figured its dead wifi antenna. I bough the new used one but same thing. Oh, important thing that in general settting wifi has MAC adress!
Oh and this is picture, as you can see there is no sign of wifi icon, but on general it shows mac adress?
I cant figure what is wrong? Please help!
    THX

    Ok, new moment...
last couple of days i found out that the bluetooth was faulty too...it couldnt find any bluetooth device. But strange thing happenned last day, i was walking near sea harbour, with lots of yachts, ships near by ... then i dont know why i took out my iphone and scanned wifi networks and iphone found 2 networks but locked, named Astra and Astra 1 with fool signal strength. So i walked around a harbour but i couldn't figured from where the signal was coming from. So i took my other phone, HTC   and  scanned again and i found maybe 6 wireless networks from coffee shops and locale stores, but there was no Astra network on HTC. I searched on iphone again, and again i found only Astra and Astra 1.
My conclusion is maybe my iphone for some reason scans on complete different frequency wireless networks. I dont know why but it can not scan any wifi network in urban area, but maybe signals from radiostations of the ships, boats, maybe they use  different frequency? I dont know, maybe just a stupid thought, but still i couldnt fix my iphone problem.
Oh, one more thing, on cellular  internet works perfect!
If any of you have any idea please help!

  • UDP Flood to Host when iPhone connected to WiFi

Have been bothered with this issue for weeks now and finally decided to ask for help. Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
When my iPhone (and my wife's) are connected to the home (WiFi) network, there's a seemingly random amount of UDP Flood to Host errors in my router's security log, at random times. Because of this, the router goes into 300 sec lock-down, wherefore obviously no internet.
Using iPhone console and my router's security log doesn't provide any clear insight on what app or other configuration on the iPhone triggers this. It even happens at night when both we and our phones are supposed to be asleep. There is a slight pattern noticable when in 80% of the cases the UDP Flood is preceded by a "Sending ACK" to my iPhone.
I'm quite certain it's related to the iPhone. E.g. this morning I kept my WiFi on the phone switched off and used the internet on my notebook non-stop without any problem. The moment I turn on WiFi on my iPhone this happens:
    01/02/2011 15:22:31 **UDP Flood to Host** 86.89.201.51, 32768->> 195.121.1.66, 53 (from ATM1 Outbound)
    01/02/2011 15:22:31 **UDP Flood to Host** 86.89.201.51, 32768->> 195.121.1.34, 53 (from ATM1 Outbound)
    01/02/2011 15:16:27 **UDP Flood to Host** 86.89.201.51, 32768->> 195.121.1.66, 53 (from ATM1 Outbound)
    01/02/2011 15:16:27 **UDP Flood to Host** 86.89.201.51, 32768->> 195.121.1.34, 53 (from ATM1 Outbound)
Additional info: iPhone is iOS 4.2.1, router is Sitecom WL-304 with latest firmware installed and firewall activated. The 195.121.1.34 and .66 IP's are the DNS servers of my provider. And that it is ALWAYS port 32768. Nevertheless when I scan for action on this port using a variety of port checkers, they all say it's closed/not listening, safe, etc.

I seem to be having the exactly the same problem.
I have iPhone 4, my daughter a touch, also we have iPad as well as three wireless laptops, one wii, two ps3's all connecting wirelessly to the router - Philips sna6500. Not of course all are using the system at once!
Everything was all fine until about two - three weeks ago. Apart from us adding a ps3 to the mix in the last week, I've not changed anything.
So having read a few things, I reset the router and then slowly turning things onto to connect. As soon as used iPhone 4 it caused this udp flood statement in my security log
**UDP Flood to Host** 95.148.173.9, 32768->>193.36.79.100, 53 (from ATM1 Outbound)
Having read the reply to the earlier you can see it's the same DNS 53.
What's also made me think is I visited relatives over Christmas and my iPhone kept on dropping the connection.
So I think there is an app or recent update that's causing this problem.
Since turning off the iPhone connection to the wireless at home, it's not throwing up this error and I'm not getting access problems from my other wireless devices.
So is it my iPhone or router at fault?
Any ideas on what apps could be causing this?
If factory reset, potentially it would get rid of problem but I have to rebuild my phone again. If I backup and restore, it will restore all. So would it be your recommendation be to sync to iTunes, screen shoot all home pages on iPhone so know what specifically on my phone, and remove all non-apps, then slow add them back on, of course making sure the base system works ok.

  • Macbook Pro Snow Leopard; WiFi keeps dropping, no IP Address

Macbook Pro Snow Leopard; WiFi keeps dropping. Issue is Macbook is not getting an IP address from the wireless routers DHCP Server. Tried all options in the forums. Reboot, changing security, PRAM reset .. nothing. Problem keeps happening. No issues on XP laptops and Nokia phones.
Even the iPhone, iPod and iPad seems to be fine. It is just the dang gam it Macbook pro and it is driving me crazy.
All fixes tried, changing wireless mode, security, PRAM ... only thing left is to rebuild the mac which i was hoping I can avoid somehow.
Any ideas to fix this would be great!

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this all you will have to do.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

    No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

  • Mac Mail, iPhone, Edge versus WiFi (Corporate Settings)

I have Mac mail set up fine on the iPhone it works O.K. on Edge at the usual AT&T speed, but I am seeing issues when trying to access the web and Mac Mail through my work's WiFi network.
They offer a "public access" (this is a hospital), that when you access WiFi with the web-browser it passes you by a couple of agreement pages (it's a securlogin.arubanetwork.com address). It warns that the speed is throttled down to 0.5 Mb/second, the session expires after 8 hours and access is restricted to HTTP and HTTPS protocols but you can use VPN to tunnel to your home network.
If I acess through WiFi (it asks for an e-mail address) using the web-browser, then web access to Mac Mail and to web-pages are ok, the WiFi triangle is 3-4 bars and the speed is "good". However if I do this work WiFi web-access through the browser and then turn-around and access the Mail app on the iPhone and Mac Mail off that, then the WiFi "triangle" drops right down to the bottom line and "Checking for Mail" goes on-and-on (both at the top of the screen and the footer of the screen) ultimately nothing appears to update. I've checked against Mac Mail via a PC and confirmed that there are changes, but they do not come over under this mode. If I switch WiFi off and then check mail using Edge, the changes come right on through.
I am guessing that the work WiFi is the stumbling block, that even using the Mail app on the iPhone it is trying to reverify that web-access. Anyone got any ideas of any settings that I could use on the iPhone that may allow my to get speedy access from Mail through this WiFi process asking for a verified logon? Thanks.

    Malcolm Barnes,
If they are limiting access to just VPN, HTTP and HTTPS, then Mail.app won't be able to access the .Mac mailbox, but may try and retry a few different approaches to accessing the mailbox to work around that stumbling block. Working with just .5 MB, that could consume a good portion of your individually available bandwidth.
At that point, I suspect your network may start trying to block you, until you can make a new connection, because you are using ports that aren't allowed. (25, 143, 587 and/or 993).
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Wifi connection drops on all apple devices

I have a linksys WRT120N router that i use to access the internet from (usually) a desktop, 3 laptops, 2 iPhones, 2 iPod Touches, an iPad, and a Playstation 3.
I have absolutely no problems connecting to the internet from any of the computers (all PCs) or the PS3. On all of the Apple products, however, the wifi signal drops every 15 seconds or so. It will be working fine, then all of a sudden the signal will just be gone and I have to go into the wireless settings page and reselect our wifi network to reaccess it.
The router is fully up to date on the firmware and is relatively new. Anyone have any possible fixes?

This is what i hate ive already posted 2 disscusions about this and its falling on deaf ears.
i have apple tv, ipods, iphone 3gs and 4. imac and Ipad 1 and 2 using my wireless router supplied from Virgin Media.   its 50meg broadband with the super hub.
before i get a smart arse reply............i had the same issue with Skys crappy broadband router........so its obvious its an issue with apples software/hardware.
