IPhone 4 charging issue.. battery problem?

hi i was wondering if someone could help me ive got an iphone 4 ios5.1 and last couple of days the battery has been draining extremely fast (approx 2 hrs) and behaving erratically.. ie going up to 100% fast, or disconnecting at 29% or 51% and saying it has no battery power left. and now it completely wont turn on and has the symbol for no charge even after i left it to charge for the whole night- as soon as i disconnect it it goes back to the no charge symbol and is impossible to turn on.
it turned on once when i tried it randomly but it only stayed on for about 5 minutes on 100% battery, and then shut down again giving the no battery symbol.
ive tried different chargers and usb chargers etc but it seems to have the same effect. i just want to be sure if its a problem with the battery or not- has anyone else had this issue before? could it be something other than the battery? thanks

Update: I found 8 new bugs on iPhone 4/S with IOS 5. Even you turn everything off you still are draining faster than the iPhone 4.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

  • IPhone 4 - Charging issues including "This accessory may not be supported."

So for the past couple of weeks, on and off, my iPhone 4 (2 years old) has been having intermittent charging issues. I have gone through four charging cords, all from Apple, and two charging blocks, both from Apple - none of these change/resolve the issue.
I had an online chat through Apple with someone a week ago, and she suggested resetting my settings only (resetting the entire phone was my husband's idea) - resetting the phone entirely did not resolve the issue, and resetting the settings (and only the settings) works for maybe 1-2 days maximum. Any of the following things happen when plugging in the phone to charge:
    1) The phone charges normally (very rare anymore, happens more often if I reset the settings on the phone first then put everything back the way I want it)
    2) The phone charges for maybe two seconds, then a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported." (8/10 times this happens, can usually get it to charge normally if I unplug and replug a bunch of times)
    3) The phone makes the noise/vibrates like it is charging, but the battery percentage will go down over time. (rare, but does happen)
An Apple store visit is not exactly...possible? I live an hour and a half away from my closest one, and the location is not easy to get to (cross a bridge, pay $13 toll, $13 to get back over to go home, and that's just the way there and back...forget finding the place). I have cleaned out the phone at the charging port more times than I can count. My husband seems to think it is a battery issue...thoughts?

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals.  So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

  • IPhone 5 Charging Issues

Hi I am using iPhone 5 and its battery got drained off two days ago and I am trying to charge it by plugging to power cable/ USB port. Its not turning on can you please provide me some solution for this problem.
I have face same issue with my iPad couple of months ago and we still in a situation to get alive, there are few issues with iOS 8 I suppose. I have produced my iPad infront of the service center though I have the warranty period they are not in a position to solve the issue.
I request people come with some valuable inputs and suggestion which will help to get my problems solved.
I am rethinking to buy a mac pro or air because if the same arises again i need to sit idle though I have the warranty. Apple people please help us.

    Hey chinna99,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPad is not turning on after the battery was drained. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • IPhone 4 (not 4s) battery problems

I've seen a lot of complaints about poor battery life on the 4s, but I am having problems with battery life on my iPhone 4, which is draining at about 2% every 10 minutes while in standby.  The battery problems started about 3 days ago (I had already been running iOS 5 for a couple of weeks without any issues).
I believe that my problem has to do with my Gmail exchange account, which stopped working at about the same time.  Currently Mail is crashing whenever I try to sync with Gmail, and if I try to access the Gmail account settings in the Settings app then the Settings app crashes as well (no ill effects with Calendar or Contacts for some reason).
Not sure if this helps anyone.

  • Iphone 6 charging issue

    hello,
i seem to have an issue with my phone charging, i have two apple lighting cables that work perfectly, however, if i try and use any other lighting cable, including two brand new cables from apple, they will not charge. when my phone dies, and i plug it in using a different cable, it says its charging, but it never comes back on, and im stuck with a black screen and can't do anything with it until i get to my two cables.

    Hello bobrulesall,
Based on your description of your configuration and the charging issues you are having (charging only from a specific pair of Apple Lightning cables), you may want to have your iPhone evaluated and/or serviced. You may find the information on the following page helpful:

  • IPhone 5 charging issue ?

I normally put my iPhone 5 in charge at night and take it off in the morning once I get up, the device stays in charge for around 5 hours on a regular basis. I am wondering whether I am overcharging the device  ?  Since it still stays on charge even when the battery gets full, does it affect the device ? Please suggest.

The iPhone charging circuit turns off when the battery is full. I leave mine on during the night and have never had a problem. I've used iPhones from the beginning. See this if you have further questions about batteries for the iPhone. http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

  • 2 out of 3 iPhone 3G's with battery problem.

    http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/2-out-of-our-3-iPhones-have-faulty-batteries .htm
Website says the 2 out of 3 iPhone 3G's have defective batteries.
They don't fully charge and have less battery life.
Anyone having the same problem? - I do

I am having this problem too, if the iphone 3G does have the same icon for the full charge as the original iphone. Apple may have changed it for the iphone 3G. But my phone does not display the radioactive green battery even after a 7 hour charge. Does anyone know the answer?

  • Iphone 3G Charging issues after software upgrade

I recently upgraded my iphone 3G software to 3.0.1. Things were working just fine until this morning when i tried charging my phone by plugging it to a wall socket. I was surprised to learn that my phone would not charge. I then plugged it via USB to my computer and it started charging. I tried the following steps to resolve my phone's problem:
    1. reset my phone settings;
    2. hard reset; and
    3. disable push for my accounts.
Despite following these steps, my phone would still not charge through an electrical outlet. Although it seems like a consolation that my phone would still charge via USB, I find it very inconvenient to lug my laptop around and open it every time I need to charge my phone. Hope to hear from those who have successfully dealt with this problem. Thanks in advance.

    I have a similar issue - w/two different variants.
Charging was an issue before and after upgrade.
And the phone will charge if I try different outlets (sometimes as many as 4 or 5 which I think might be due to different circuit breakers) - once I get it working in one, then I can go back to the first outlet and the phone will charge when I plug it in.
I was about to post this concern in a separate thread (and still will) because this is a huge issue when I travel. I did swap my wall adapter without any change. My wife ALSO has the same issue with her 3G iPhone.

  • LED lights issue / battery problems

Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked in some old threads but didn't find an answer...
When I plug the MagSafe adapter into my computer, the LED lights up for 2 secs when I plug it in and then goes out. I seem to be using my battery power.
But if I take the battery out, then the LED becomes green again and it is powered by the adapter once again.
I followed a troubleshooting article but no luck? Can someone explain what is going on here?

Follow Rod's link to the "[how to clean the MagSafe connector|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303240]" tech article and make sure both the plug on the cable as well as the connector on the Mac are perfectly clean and debris-free. My connector tends to pick up lint from God-knows-where and after awhile the plug does not seat completely in, after which I start getting the blinking lights; a good cleaning has always restored functionality. If that doesn't remedy the problem, you will probably need Apple support.
In order to know for sure if it is charging, you may want to open System Preferences, select Energy Saver, go to the Options tab and tick the "Show battery status on the menu bar" option. That way you can see what's going on at all times with the icon on the menubar.

  • Permanent orange light on charger + other battery problems!

Hi, so I have a refurbished MacBook Pro (not sure what year), and I've always had problems with the battery....i.e. battery not staying charged, stuff like that. I replaced the battery a while back and it didn't even solve the problem. The computer would never stay charged, and would shut off if unplugged for more than about a few minutes. This was always very annoying, I just didn't have time or money to get it fixed. Note: the light on the charger was always green during this time. I had tried a few things I read online and nothing worked.
Now, the light has changed to orange permanently. If I unplug it, it will go directly to sleep mode to prevent it from shutting off. the battery icon at the top ALWAYS has an X in it, and it says "no batteries available".
I am sick of dealing with it, but want to try to fix it myself before dropping a bunch of cash to have someone else do it...and I'm starting to DJ live, so I can't have my computer dying during a show! haha. any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well like I said it was a refurbished computer (not from Apple, from a company who rebuilds them), and the battery was basically dead when I got it, to which they replied "Computers come with factory batteries, and are not covered by our warranty".....which is BS. So I ordered another one, which actually was from eBay, but a seller that had a high rating. I just figured they were all the same battery, just being sold through another seller instead of Apple.....maybe I was wrong?
If the problem actually is with the battery itself, and all it would take is replacing it, I would be satisfied. I would gladly just spend the $ and buy one directly from Apple. I guess getting a new one would be the only way to find out if the problem is with the battery itself, eh?

  • Charging issue, battery is installed in my iBook g4 and led is orange, when battery is out, led is green

is my battery bad, or dc board bad?  When my battery is installed and "charging" the LED is orange and battery indicator shows plugged in and 0% in the battery.  when I take the battery out, the led is green and battery has an X in it.  thanks.
    Dennis

These batteries are designed to last a set number of charging cycles, so it is very possible that it "dead."

  • IPhone 4 charging and synching problem with IOS 6.1.3

I have recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 6.1.3 having delayed to the maps debacle. Now my laptop doesn't recognise my phone and it won't charge unless I close all apps and do a soft reset each time. Even then it doesn't work every time. Any advice?

Soft reset is the opposite from hard reset.
Factory unlocked and all that jazz.
