Iphone 4 data transfer
Upgraded yesterday to an iphone 4 from my old 3. Trying to transfer all data using instructions from online manuals. Have backed up the 3 to the cloud and now want to trnsfer material to my iphone 4. I have selected my home wifi network and the 4 seems to be connected. My network name appears with a check but a lock icon with no availability to enter a password. Also, the "next" button that should be in the upper right of the screen does not appear. Where am I going wrong?
Have you tried tapping the name of the network to enter the password?
If that doesn't work: I recommend using this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 for the NEW iPhone and trying again.
Restore with iTunes is best option.
Good luck

UPGRADING MY IPHONE - DATA TRANSFER AND DELETION
i have just upgraded from an iphone 3gs to an iphone 4. i am going to give the 3gs to my sister. i want to delete all data from the 3gs. i have read that all you need to do is first sync to itunes to create a back up and then hit the settings button erase all data. is this all you need to do to erase all data and that no residual data is left.
with the new iphone 4 - do i just then plug it into itunes and it will retrieve all the data i had on the 3gs?
thank you.Transferring info from a current iPhone to a new iPhone.

The Erase All Content and Settings option on the iPhone at Setting > General > Reset is a secure erase of all content and settings - a secure erase of everything on the iPhone except for the firmware/OS as if the iPhone has not been used. -
So I recently dropped my iPhone in water and now it doesn't turn on at all. And on top of that my iPhone didn't get backed up to itunes anytime prior to this accident. Is there any way the data (contacts, pictures, etc...) Can be transfered to the new iphone that I'm about to get this month? I have really important contact numbers that I need to get off my old phone because I can't find these numbers anywhere else.
Unfortunately if you don't have your phone backed up in iTunes or iCloud (or using any other methods to sync your contacts such as Outlook on your computer or others) then no, you won't be able to retrieve your data. It's possible that your iPhone will start to function somewhat after it has dried out some but of it's fried for good then you're likely out of luck. Hope you are able to retrieve it somehow.

How to transfer iTunes Library/iPhone data from PC to Mac?
Hi,
I have just started using my Mac Mini. This is my first mac.
I need to copy my iTunes Library from my PC to Mac.
I searched for a solution and most of them advise to simply copy the iTunes folder to my Mac.
The problem is I am not sure if this approach will preserve my album ratings/playlist/playcounts/album art.
Most important, I wonder if this will transfer my iPhone data as well or not.
My contacts and stuff on iPhone are crucial to me. I need to be able to plug in my iPhone to my Mac and not be worried about losing my previous data.
Any suggestions?
I am running leopard and am on wifi. I can transfer files over wifi. The Apple store will do this for you.
You can call Apple Support and they will walk you through it.
You can type "move itunes library from pc to mac" into the google search bar. -
Does iPhone SDK support the feature of data transfer via Bluetooth or USB?
Hi,
I'm developing a application in which I want a feature for data transfer either using Bluetooth or USB.
Does iPhone SDK support this feature of data transfer via Bluetooth or USB?
Please help me.
Thanks. The SDk doesn't deal with BlueTooth or USB. Your only option is wireless data. (WiFi, 3G, etc)

Syncing iphone data into New Macbook Pro
Hey guys,
I read a few answers on the forum but I want clear confirmation if any of you could help. I lost data on my Macbook Pro as the hard drive crashed. I bought a new Macbook Pro and I want to sync the data of the iphone into the new computer.
I need to transfer, mainly...SMSes, Contacts, Photos, and mail data (My mail is all IMAP though which is good right? perhaps transfer that information would be nice).
Applications and the data on them if possible and music would be good.
Isit safe and as easy as plug and sync? I also have a Fruux Account but the iphone data is more updated because while awaiting my new laptop, I was using my iphone as the temporary computer.
Is there anything else I should do first? Sync Fruux first or vice versa and should I do anything else?
Thank you!Good, glad you have a backup. So what you need to do is move those libraries from your PC to the new MBP and then import them into iTunes. Follow the instructions you will find here. I would recommend you move the files to an external HD.
Prior to doing that I would also recommend you read over Switch 101 and Mac 101. Both of these links will provide you invaluable information for someone making the switch from a PC to a Mac.

How can i sync my iphone to a new itunes without losing all my iphone data??? HELP
i need help , recently my laptops hard drive broke so i bought a new laptop so i needed to download a new itunes .... how can i put all my data from my iphone back onto itunes ? music, contacts, apps etc.. i heard that u cant and i would need to clear my phone entirely ?! can someone help wityh this please ???? i dont want to lose any of my iphone data ... eve if i cant put it on my itunes can i still keep it on my iphone without losing any data syncing ????
thanx , barry in irelandSyncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your phone from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Set up your iTunes account, disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

Be careful about using your phone for data transfer in Europe! I Just got back from a 2-week trip to Europe with my family of four- we all brought our iPhones. I had international roaming- World Traveller- turned on before we left. I was told that phone calls would be $1.99 per minute and data transfer (Internet, email, etc.) would be unlimited because we already pay the $20 for that. It turns out it is NOT unlimited. We just got a bill for $3700. AT&T has agreed they told us wrong and they will credit our data usage charges but I'm still not sure it is really going to happen. They have since instituted a new plan something like this: International Data Transfer is about $20 per month for about 15mb of data. But there is a 1 year commitment for this plan. Hopefully, they will revise this plan to something more useful.
Yesterday afternoon the advice I received from AT&T was to call and have the data part of the phone turned off while traveling. That would, I was told, keep me from getting a big bill. This morning I telephoned again to ask about wi fi, and was told, essentially, that if wi fi is free where I am, there would be no charge for web browsing or reading and sending email. Also, I was told that the advice I received yesterday was incorrect. The way to keep from getting the data charges that are very large is to go to mail settings and for each account, to turn it "off." That way the phone will not look for email. Presumably not clicking the Safari icon is a part of this plan. So the work around today sounds like it is to use free wi fi if you can find it.

Any data transfer app (wifi)?
Is there an app that would allow data transfer via Wifi (to a server or other computer) for the purpose of transferring videos I edited in iMovie on the IP4 without having to get them super compressed as it's currenty done on the iPhone?
Not sure if you've found the answer.
Apple has some thoughts:

Not sure if this is your precise issue. You don't give us enough of the error msgs. -
Transferring iphone data to new computer
My IBM thinkpad crashed and I had to reboot XP. I downloaded itunes but I can't see how to transfer my music, podcasts, e-mail settings, my outlook contacts and calendar back to the computer. Does anyone have a step by step way to do this? I don't want to erase the iphone data. thanks much, kate
You don't maintain a backup?
iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone - but this is for content purchased or acquired from the iTunes Store only. Any content - music or video acquired elsewhere that was transferred from iTunes to your iPhone will not be transferred.
With your iPhone connected and available in the iTunes source list, at the menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
The sync process for contact information, calendar events and bookmarks is bidirectional. Be sure to enter at least one contact in Outlook's address book and one calendar event in Outlook's calendar before syncing. Pay attention to any warning messages or prompts provided. If you don't understand or aren't sure about the prompt provided, cancel until you are sure.
You must re-enter your email account setup information in Outlook. The sync process for email account setup information is not bidirectional.
Maintaining a backup of your important data is very important regardless the platform but even more important with a Windows PC due to constant virus, adware and spyware concerns and for a system wide crash as you experienced. -
Hi,
We have a very strict data plan in NZ. 250 MB month... I want to ensure no data can be transferred at times (esp if I reach my limit). How can I switch off all data transfer so I don't get hammered at the end of my billing month?
Thanks,
ScottThe only way for sure is to put the phone into Airplane mode, but then no phone calls either.
There is no setting to disable data only on the iPhone. All you can do is manual - don't open safari, email, maps. Maybe move those icons to a different screen and periodically check you data usage through the carrier and the iPhone settings screen. -
How to find the max data transfer rate(disk speed) supported by mobo?

Last edited by Inxsible (2011-03-27 04:40:49)I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section. -
ISSUE:regarding production version tab of MRP4 of data transfer using BD10
Hi all,
This is regarding production version tab of MRP4 of data transfer using ALE idoc (BD10).
When i transfer the data using BD10 the production version is received at receiving end through segment
but not created in MRP4 view tab.An error is coming as-
"You wanted to maintain the master record of the material AB_06.04.09(2). However, it is already being processed by the user EBGABAP and is therefore locked."
I logged in as-EBGABAP
Please help me resolve the issue.
Thanks
