IPhone 4 DCIM

So I took video today and filmed it portrait then decided for the shot I needed landscape. Come to find out after the video was finished and a previewed it the picture was turned 90 degrees the wrong direction for viewing halfway through. I imported to iMovie to crop and rotate the portion I wanted. The video is to big to email to myself and if I know sync the video through iPhoto I can't use it in iMovie for iPhone 4 which is what I wanted to do. I've tried a couple apps on the App Store that said they could get the video back on the camera roll, but I've had no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem?

Someone put a note on their blog which solves this problem.
Plug in your phone unlocked
Keep unlocked and look in DCIM folder, you will see the files now
If your phone automatically locks after a while, yo may have problems again
So simple, yet so frustrating

The title of my initial post is a bit misleading. I already took a chance deleting one of the iPhones, hoping if I deleted the wrong one, I can still reauthorize it (all with the same Apple ID acct, so not subject to 90-day waiting period, right?) The iTunes database just updated itself, and it says I have 4 "devices" "in the Cloud", but 5 "computers" associated w my account. How can I find out what computers are associated? Isn't there a list I can see? I dont have a clue what computers they might be. If I use the  "Deauthorize All" option, is it a pain to add them all back in. I assume I would have to log in from each computer to reauthorize each one. Would I have to be running the newest OS or version of iTunes to reauthorize? I think I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an older OS and iTunes. I'd like to keep that authorized, if possible.

Thanks to both of you. It seems that Kiltedtim hit the nail on the head.
Paul's advice is appreciated but not needed, as I never lock it with a passcode but thanks anyhow.

  • Browsing iPhone DCIM folder

I'm a little (A LOT) frustrated with the changes in the iPhone's DCIM folder post iOS 8. For years, all I had to do to get a photo off my iPhone was connect it to my PC, open the iPhone icon, browse to the DCIM folder, open ONE subfolder, sort the pictures by date and find my photos. Then one day there were two subfolders. OK, so the first one got full, no biggie, at least I knew folder 1 had pictures before a certain date, folder 2 had pictures after that date. Since the iOS 8 upgrade, there are now literally 48 cryptically named SUBFOLDERS under DCIM, all with the SAME DATE, the date I upgraded to iOS 8. There is now no way to find my latest photos except to open each subfolder, one at a time, and look! Why is this? Is there someway to change this behavior?

Well, the Wizard puts my photos on the computer, and I'd rather not do that, since it's a work computer, and I'm not always at the same computer when I need to find a picture. All I really want to do is quickly browse the DCIM folder on the camera, find a particular photo and upload it or do whatever I need to do. The new folder layout makes that a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

  • Transferring photos taken on an iPhone to a PC

I am trying to transfer photos taken on my iphone to a pc running windows XP (work computer)  However this is NOT the pc that the computer is sync to.
    How do I do it?
(The pc is sync to my home pc - running Windows 7)
You used to be able to go My Computer, Select iphone DCIM folder and you can see all the photos appear.
Since updating my phone to the latest IOS, it seems you are unable to transfer photos taken on your iphone to another pc, and ONLY the pc the iPhone is sync to.
Am I doing something really stupid?  Do I need to check a setting to allow this?  Or does everyone else have the same problem?
And before someone says, can't you email them to yourself - This is a silly idea, and it takes too long!!!
    Pleeeeeeease HELP !!

Thank you for your suggestions, however this hasn't helped me.
When I connect the iPhone to pc, it flashes up Trust this computer.  I click trust and then click on My Computer and iPhone.  The device reads the phone, then quickly shuts down and on my phone screen it comes up Trust this computer again.  This series of events just repeats itself.
I tried plugging the phone into another Windows XP machine and exactly the same thing happens.
I tried plugging the phone into a colleagues machine (windows 7) and my photos come up, exactly as required.
The two XP machines are completely up to date with Windows updates.  The link you took me to suggests I check my photos software is up to date - is this difference from ensuring I have the latest IOS?  (Which I do)
How do I check whether I have the latest photo software update?
Any other suggestions on how I can get it working?

  • A recorded video file (of 1h 2 min and 43 sec lenght) forever stuck on my 64GB iPhone?

    Hi,
It's happened to me twice now. The first time I was in a hurry to free up space so I opted to convert the video to lover resolution onboard and transfer off the lower resolution copy, then delete the original (not cool)!
Now I have time and since I suspect a known limitation of iOS, willing to go through with it until fixed.
    The details:
    1. I shot a video of lenght 1:02:43).
    2. I can play back the video on camera roll just fine.
    3. I selected all the photos/video under iPhone/DCIM/* and MOVED off the device to another location.
    4. DCIM folders were checked and empty (also after reconnection to the computer).
    5. A single 1:02:43 lenght 1080p movie file was not copied (moved) to the computer and was.
    6. A single 1:02:43 lenght 1080p movie file is/was still found in the camera roll, however not listed under DCIM folders with iPhone connected to the computer.
How do I get the original file off the device?
I should be able to record even longer videos so Is this a know IOS limitation or even a bug?
    Thanks in advance!

Make sure itunes is updated on computer, backup iphone, then...

  • Trying to copy pics from 3gs to PC w/o itunes, tried 3 pc's "no pics on your camera"

    Hello all,
I have a 3gs phone with about 9,000 pics, I am upgrading the phone to an iphone 4 and I dont need all the pics. I have tried copying the pics using 3 different computers and so far no luck, I tried a HP laptop with win XP, Vaio laptop with Win 7 Ultimate and PC with win 7.
I dont want to use itunes(more on that in a sec).
I have connected the iphone to the pc through USB, sometimes the propmpt for "get pictures" comes up, when I open it there is a message " there are currently no pictures on your camera".
Method #2 , open windows explorer, double click on the Apple Iphone, DCIM, and folder is blank.
Method #3 , open windows explorer, right click on Apple Iphone, click on open and/or explore, folder is blank, no pics
Method #4 , open windows explorer, right click on Apple Iphone, click on "get pictures" goes back to message " there are currently no pictures on your camera".
I know I have 9,000 pics on my phone, I just can't seem to be able to extract them.
    * the reason that I dont want to use itunes is because I have an old phone, 3GS, since the 3+ years I had this phone I have it backed up twice or 3 times to different computers that have crashed through the years. Hence I am afraid that if I hook up this 3GS to a new computer it might erase everything I have becuase I already did the 3 allowed backups in 3 different computers.
Also, I dont want to back up my pics, I want to extract them from my 3GS, back up the remaining contacts and info and restore on the Iphone 4.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

There are several ways to import the photos:
    1) Use File Explorer (I am not sure why you are getting the "in-use" error. Try a reboot of both devices and de-select autosync in preferences before hooking up the iphone.)
    2) Windows Digital Camera Wizard. Go to Devices & Printers, Scanners and Cameras.
    3) Many of the photo programs have photo import tools also, but I can't recommend one. I use method 1, above.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot import all photos onto PC

When I connect my phone to my laptop it is not showing all the photos on my phone to allow me to import them all.
I have approx. 2000 photos on my phone, but when I connect and browse my phone on my PC I can only see approximately 50 photos.
I can see the following iPhone>DCIM>Foldername xxxxxx and that is all?
    Why can't I see more?
Please help - they have all my baby photos!

Did you follow the steps mentioned in this article to import the photos inside the camera roll? Photos that have not been taken with the phone or located inside the camera roll can't be imported.

  • Wifi sync causes photos to take more space

I've noticed that in iTunes 10.5.3 if I check the box to allow Wifi Sync my photos go from taking 2.1GB to 2.9GB. I can't imagine why this would be, and I have not activated this option to confirm this would be the case (I cannot spare the extra 800MB right now).
Has anyone else seen this? Can someone check/uncheck the box without applying and confirm for me this is not an isolated issue?
    Thanks in advance.

Tried that and it wont work. I have my iphone connected to the computer and went to computer-->apple iphone-->DCIM and tried to delete the folders and the error keeps saying "could not be deleted the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" but my phone is connected...

  • My photos are missing

I took about 400 vacation pics on my iphone but when I got back to check them there were less than 50 on the camera roll. what happened? Are they hidden somewhere or did it not really take the pics? how could it let me take all those pics and not save them? There was plenty of space availible so how could this happen? Ok well if it actually took the pics is there any way to recover them?
    I have the original iphone:
    DCIM 100-3 pics 101-empty 102-empty 103-empty 104-47 pics

just an update....I took a couple pics but the camera does not work at all. the shutter opens and closes as if it's taking a pic but nothing goes in the camera roll. I'm pretty sure I can't recover pics it never really took but how can I get this camera woring again?

  • How do I get my data stored in iphone 4S  internal memory, which was stored via USB connected to PC? Able to access just DCIM files ie image files and other docs like PDF, word and exel are not showing up

Please, help in retrieving my data stored in iphone 4s, which displays just DCIM folder when access from PC.

You can only transfer contents back, if they are associated with a certain app that takes up documents. If you go to the sync pane for apps and check the lower list of apps, clicking them one by one and check if contents you need are showing on the right hand side.
Other contants cannot be transferred back, especially synced pictures cannot be transferred back to the computer.

  • My iphone 4G has 1165 photos and NONE of them can be seen in the DCIM. None of my videos either. The folder is empty. Where the heck are all my pictures?

With my old 3GS I could connect the phone and navigate to a folder that contained all my pictures and copy them off or view them. Now with my iphone 4G, I connect the phone, navigate to the DCIM folder and it's empty! WTH? Where are all my pictures? I hate having to use itunes because it's performamce is beyond terrible. It takes several minutes to even start and when I click on anything in itunes and I have to wait 20 seconds or more before it responds, then I can click on the next thing wait 20 seconds or more, and so on. Every other application I have is ripping fast. It's horrible. Is apple deliberately making this a giant pain!? Where are all my pictures and video?

The DCIM folder is for your Camera Roll.  The pics synced from iTunes will not show up there, only pics taken with the iPhone.

  • Plug iphone 4S in PC with Win 7 showing empty DCIM folder, but up one level see the Internal storage with multi tens GB occupied. how to fix? thx

1/ plug in my iphone 4S (iOS 6.1.3) unlocked to PC (window 7)
2/ window explorer open and see "Apple iPhone" icon and clicked
3/ see internal storage icon telling me GBs of ize used
4/ click in and see DCIM folder
5/ double click and nothing inside
    can anyone help please?

Are there pictures in your camera roll? Windows does not handle viewing the iPhone in Explorer very well. It will give you an idea of how much space is being utilized in the phone, but it is not really that accurate. You do not have access to anything else via Explorer except photos that are in the Camera Roll. No other files can be accessed and you cannot add files to the phone via Explorer.

  • I have an iPhone 4 with legacy photos in a DCIM file from iPhone 3.  When I try to import to my PC only the photos taken on the iPhone 4 are available/appear.  How do I get the DCIM album to download?

I have an iPhone 4 with legacy photos from an iPhone 3 now stored as a DCIM file on the i/Phone 4.  When I try to download the photos to my PC only the photos taken with the iPhone 4 are recognized and downloaded.  I can still see all the photos on the DCIM file but my PC doesn't recognize them.  How do I download these old photos?

I've tried both ways.  My Computer locates the device but doesn't see the old photos, only listing the new photos.
I no longer have the iphone3; I just transferred the photos from the 3 to the 4.
Was there a format change or file type change or did the transfer process create something different?  I can still see and access the old photos if I go to that album on the phone.  But that's the only place where I can see them or access them.

  • I find the iphone 5s photographs and videos very difficult to copy into my PC after upgrade to ios 7.1.2. Previously I was able to open it in my computer (Windows 8.1 loaded on macbook air 13" July 2013) model, within iphone ikon - DCIM.  Why not now

After upgrade of my iphone 5s to ios 7.1.2, I am not able to open iphone ikon- Internal Storage-DCIM - in My computer
The folder is shown as empty
I use Window 8.1 loaded on my Macbook air 13" July 2013 model
Should I stop using iphone for photography and use my Canon DSLR
Taking photo is easy with iphone 5s.  But retreiving the photo/video
is time consuming and I feel is a waste of time
    Any way out?

Is your phone unlocked when your importing the pictures.
This sound more like a window 8 issue.
