Iphone 4 dead, red light above the speaker

hey, my iphone suddenly died yesterday. i was texting, browsing normally and couple of minutes later it was dead (battery was almost full). i tried hard reseting it, connecting it to my mba and nothing, itunes doesnt even recognize it. couple of hours later i saw this red light above the speaker and after some googleing i found this discussion
https://discussions.apple.com/message/16706124#16706124
where it says that the red light means my iphone was damaged by water. the only thing i dont get here is HOW since i havent dropped it, nor used it outside in the rain haha. i am kind of confused because i dont know if its dead or not. right now it's resting in a zip bag full of rice but i dont get it. could someone help me? thanx
i mean, its an iphone 4, ive been using it for years and this is the first time this happens, battery works great, phone works great i dont wanna change it. the only good thing is that it's helping with my addiction to internet hahhaa, first 20hours were baaaaad. thank you

    Hey there lildl110,
Let's get that iPhone 4 to cool down. It sounds like the phone overheated and needed a bit of a rest. Is it still too hot to touch? If you've given it some time to cool down please try the restart method,http://vz.to/1ciOvXw.

  • What does the red light above the speaker mean?

    Hi,
I have an Iphone 4 running IOS5. Just this morning, I woke up and a little red light was glowing above the ear speaker. The phone will not turn on, and is otherwise dead. I tried the hard restart and that doesn't work. Plugging into external power, or plugging into the computer does nothing.
    Please help!

    try it this time.

  • Why does my iPhone 5c have a red light on the top of it

my iPhone 5c has a red light on the top of it next to the speaker but it is only visible at night, it's really scary

    It's the proximity sensor.

  • Red light to the left of the receiver of the iPhone 5

I had my iPhone 5 replaced at the weekend for a speaker issue, but I noticed today when using the replacement in a dark room, I can see a glowing red light to the left of the receiver. I did a search, of course, which brought up results concerning the iPhone 4 and that it's the proximity sensor and not something to worry about. But I also saw this "eHow" article that says it's because the phone's been exposed to water:
    http://www.ehow.com/info_8704998_red-light-iphone-mean.html
Earlier today I was using the phone when it started raining, so I quickly wiped it against my sweater and put it in my inside jacket pocket. I didn't think that would be enough to cause any damage to the phone and the phone is working fine, but now I'm a bit worried, having not noticed the light before.
Is the eHow article wrong or do I have a reason to be worried?
Thanks in advance for any help.

That's one of the most absurd things I've ever read...the light is part of the proximity sensor. The sensor is an infrared light that can appear red when viewed through the front glass in a very specific way in the dark (the glass distorts the infrared light enough to make it very weakly visible). This is totally normal and nothing to worry about. The water sensors are round white stickers in certain locations on and in the iPhone. When they get wet they turn red and do NOT turn back. The sensors wouldn't be very useful if they changed back when the phone dried...

"from right to left I'm looking at usb, hdmi, and sd card reader?"
    Yes.
"Looks like there's nothing in the area to heat up."
Yup, so they're probably right, it was a mechanical pressure. I could see how that would happen if you had a USB plugged in and a cinder block fell on it.
"Apple is going to ridiculous lengths to promote thinner, lighter products over build quality."
Yes, the first time I saw these new MBPs I thought it was an Air!
Maybe if Steve was still around they would be making the tops out of a more rigid aluminum.
I had a friend out of college, a mechanical engineer. He was working for a major American auto manufacturer. He said his whole job was to design the stampings for the throttle linkage to use the minimum and to waste the minimum amount of material. Later he called me and said that they were going crazy with a recall and a redesign. The linkages got so thin that they were fracturing in normal driving and the cars would go immediately to full throttle.
    Yah that would be bad.
So you could probably gently push that dimple back, being careful not to mar the surface. Then pray that one of those elements that comprise the top case fails!!

    Hello NotAppleSavy,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • I've got a mac pro problem with the starting up, but also a red light on the logic board solidly on. Its not among the diagnostic led. It's located near the BT adapter and the front fans. Also the fans run loud also. any solutions?

    Hi
I've got a mac pro late 2006, and i am having problem with it for quite a while now. the problem i am facing is the start up process, and the red light on the logic board. Earlier I've got the two led on the diagnostic leds 5 and 6 turned on without the diagnostic button being pressed, and i think those are related to the processors overtemp. I've managed to solve that by, removing the processors and re applying the thermal compound on the heatsink. what i have left now with is the red light on  the logic board at the time i plugged in the power. At the same time when this light come on, the power indicator at the front panel come on as well. i am not sure what is this light relates to. We've replace the power supply too, and gone through the SMC reset but seems no help.
Any idea on the problem? I am desperate about it, and i will be greatful if anyone can help..
thanks and hope for your best solutions
    Kari

I can't help directly with your problem but you might check here http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/ for a service manual which could answer your question.

  • How do I get rid of the annoying number in a red circle above the Facetime icon?

How do I get rid of the annoying number in a red circle above the FaceTime icon?

Do a hard reset by pressing the button on the face of your Ipad and the on off switch.

  • Red lights behind the power button

In reading through some posts last night I got the impression that I should be paying more attention to the lights inside the box, behind the power button, when booting (or I should say attempting to boot) my dual-core G5 PowerMac.
My observations this morning are that I see a big red light when the machine is first powered up from cold, and also when it is restarted. That goes off. A few seconds later, before the chime, I see a brief, much smaller red light flash in that same area. Almost a pinpoint.
Is that normal, or is it diagnostically significant?
(As noted in my earlier post today, I'm launching a final effort to fix this sick puppy before I give up and take it down to the Apple Store, but it needs to be a campaign of controlled baby steps.)
    TIA,
    Kathi

Hmm, on second thought I'm not so sure... but I don't have time to open the thing up right now and figure out exactly where each of those LEDs is. The drawings in that article and in my manual aren't terribly helpful.

  • What's with the number in a red circle above the Facetime icon in the dock?

What's with the number in a red circle above the FaceTime icon?  How do I get rid of it?

I'm interested in this too, kongakut2012.  I can't see an envelope either.  I discovered that the number probably meant that I had a missed call, but when I cleared all recent calls (including the missed one) the number didn't go away.  So -- where's the envelope, please???

  • No sound on my mac book and a red light in the headphone jack

    as in the title,
The sound controls dont work and I have a constant red light out of the earphone jack, with the earphones in all is okay but without ....silence

The red light is the digital in light, that is how it reads the headphone jack. The reason the sound doesn't work is because a switch to turn the speakers back on is stuck (note that if you boot the computer, you will hear the startup tone).
There are several ways to fix this...
Some have found that putting the headphone plug in and out several times (maybe twisting it a little) will work.
Others have used a toothpick to adjust the switch (I don't advise this because the toothpick may break).
Instead of a toothpick, many have used a paperclip (probably best to use an insulated one). I couldn't get this to work, but I would suggest straightening, folding in half, then twisting the paperclip and moving it around in the port.
You can also use a sewing pen/needle.
I have seen all of these methods online, but they didn't work for me. I took a que from this instrucable and cleaned my jack with a dry q-tip. I then cut off most of the end and turned it around inside the port. This worked, but after I put the headphones back in the same problem came up, I just did the same procedure again and it worked again (even after I plugged the headphones back in and took them out).
PS: I woud suggest putting some q-tips and possibly some scissors in your MacBook bag in case the problem arises on the move.

  • My speakers on my macbook receiently quit working after I had been using some headphones. My headphones still work whenever I plug them in with both increase and decrease in volume. I have also noticed a red light on the inside of the headphone jack.

My speakers on my macbook pro quit working the other day after using my headphones. when I try to adjust the speakers my screen indicator sayes that it is at full volume on the bar but also muted(circle with line through it). I also noticed a red light inside my headphone jack. My headphones still work including volume. Any quick fix?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

  • Red line above the time line

How do I get it so after initially importing my video the line above the time line will be green instead of red.  It stays red until after I render the whole clip.  I am importing my video clips from my camcorder.  How do you determine the correct project settings if that is the issue?
    Thanks

    freedog69
How do I get it so after initially importing my video the line above  the
time line will be green instead of red.
Not possible as worded. If you have the correct project preset, there  will
be no colored line over this Timeline content.
If you do not have the correct project preset, there will be a red line
    over this Timeline content.
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer
operating system is it running? APE 8  Windows XP 3GB  of ram Pentium Dual core
    Proc 2.41 Ghz
If you are talking "red" line, then you must be working with a version of
Premiere Elements earlier than 11. Assuming that....
If your project preset matches the properties of your source media, then,
when you bring one of those files to the Timeline, you will get no colored
line  over the Timeline. But, after that, after you edit that content, a red
line will  appear. That is when you render the Timeline content to turn the
line  green.Thereafter, that original content will never revert to the no
colored line  status as you work through editing that project. It will just go
through the red  green color indicator system.
No colored line and green = the program telling you that you now have the
best possible preview of the Timeline content when viewing it in the Edit
Mode  monitor playback. Red line = the program telling you that you do not
have the  best possible preview of the Timeline content and, if you want that,
then you  can press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to make that
    happen.

White from what? Lint? Try a small soft brush with a vacuum and see if you can gently brush it out. A vacuum will help lift the lint rather than possibly getting pushed into the phone.
