Iphone 4 docking

I have an iphone 4 and when I recently updated the software my phone stopped working in my Sony docking station and with my car (VW) interface.  It still chatges but doesn't play music and shows the "not supported" message.  Does anyone have any ideas if there is anything I can do?

No, it doesn't fit.

• IPhone no longer compatible with iPhone dock after 2.1

I have an iPhone dock attached to my PC for power, with an audio out to a stereo system. Before the update I would pop it in the dock and use the remote to control music. Neat. After the 2.1 update, when I put the iPhone in the dock I get the alert saying that the iPhone is not compatible with the equipment and asking if I want to switch it to airplane mode as a consequence. The remote only controls volume now, not play/pause, skip or menu. So, of what benefit is it for the iPhone now not to be compatible with the iPhone dock? Or am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Which iPhone dock are you referring to?
If you mean the iPhone dock that came with the original iPhone then it is not made for the iPhone 3G as the phone does not fit. There is no other iPhone dock other than the dock that Apple are now selling here :-

This dock does provide the functions to which you refer.

• IPhone dock 30-pin connector to line-out 3.5mm adapter/cable?

Hi folks,
I'm looking for a compact adaptor or cable to go from my iPhone 30-pin connector to a 3.5mm cable (or 3.5mm plug). Wondering if there are any recommendations, as some pre-date the iPhone and thus prompt the iPhone to switch to airport mode...
I've found:
SendStation - Products - PocketDock Line Mini Out USB (I don't need the USB part, but it's handy I guess)
http://www.inspiretech.com/p-483-dock-to-35-auxilary-audio-cable.aspx
IPHONE LINE OUT DOCK W/ 3.5MM JACK (WHITE COLOR) - eBay Other, Audio Cables Connectors, A V Accessories Cables, Electronics. (end time 17-Sep-09 02:25:07 AEST)
ZIP-AUDIO-IP1-B iPod/iPhone Retractable Stereo 3.5mm to iPod/iPhone Dock Connector (White), Apple Mac and iPod Accessories
There are no doubt other (maybe better?) options so look forward to any tips.
Cheers,
B

Did deeper research.  It's apparently true that phone call audio is not and cannot be routed to the "line out" of the iPhone.  I'm disappointed.  It appears to be a hardware design thing, as I've found no app that would enable this, and darned if I can think of a situation that would have this capability as a downside.

• Iphone dock doesn't work with my iPhone

Hey
I really need some help with my iPhone Dock from Sharp.
At first I used the dock for charging and to play music, No problem.
But then one day it didn't work. When I put my iPhone 4 into the dock it didn't connect.
There is nothing wrong with the dock but my phone just won't connect, nothing happens.
I asked my friend to try her iPhone and it worked. Started to charge her phone and she could use it play music.
So why doesn't my phone work anymore? Have I accidentally switched something off in settings or what?

Ask the manufacturer not Apple

• IPhone not compatible with iPhone dock

Hi,
I've been using my iPhone with both the original iPhone dock and the universal dock for a loooong time, but the past few months there has been a problem.
When the iPhone is connected to the iPhone dock/universal dock it says (rough translation): "This equipment is not designed to work with iPhone, do you want to activate plane mode [...]"
But all is original apple equipment and all should be compatible - what can I do ?
Thanks
Jens, Denmark

Mine is currently doing this, it is also not shutting off, it reboots right after I try and turn it off, and it is not charging through my Macbook either. It won't even show up in ITunes. When I connect it it says that a USB device is draining too much power and has been disconnected. Terrific. Can't charge and won't shut off.

• SendStation iPod / iPhone Dock Extender  from GadgetLocker doesn't work!

Ok I went to the Gadget Locker and bought iPod / iPhone Dock Extender http://www.thegadgetlocker.com/productinfo.php/cPath/223/productsid/2787
and than I bought an incase Case.
It doesn't work. The gadget used to support the iPhone does not fit into old docking stations. See photo 1:
The Dock Extender is to wide for the iPhone Dock!
See photo 2:
I called the Gadget Locker and the nice lady didn't even own an iPhone and could not try it! Do not use this company if you want a dockable iPhone solution

A little tape seemed to fix the problem, is this safe?

• Will iphone dock with viewsonic viewdock monitor?

Hi,
Will the iPhone dock with:
22" Viewsonic VX2245WM monitor.
It is described as "made for iPod"
Anyone tried?
Thanks

Firstly, the iPhone likes USB 2.0 and not the older 1.1 standard. So if your Viewsonic's hub is 1.1 you will have problems with Sync. Secondly, your iPhone will like everything best if it's plugged directly into your computer's USB port. It may work with USB 2.0 powered hubs but it will work best when you don't go through a hub.
Frankly, I'd plug your keyboard and mouse into your Viewsonic and see if that works. That's the best use for that hub as your keyboard and mouse need to be near your monitor. And I had my iPhone blow out my USB 1.1 powered hub and my Mac, shortly thereafter, told me that there wasn't enough power going through my USB system to power something attached to it.
So plugging your iPhone into your monitor might fry the USB electronics in your monitor, making it useless as a hub.
Not recommended. Plug your iPhone into your computer's USB port or into a USB-connected power supply for charging (and not syncing).

• Can't synch iPhone - iTunes 7.7 not recognizing iPhone docking

[i will move this question to iPhone section sorry]
After updating to Leopard 10.5.4 and iTunes 7.7 and all other outstanding software updates except QT 7.5, when I dock my iPhone to synch it, iTunes does not start up. If I start iTunes and then dock the iPhone, then it still does not recognize it. At the moment it appears I can't synch my iPhone.
Any suggestions? thanks

once i got QT 7.5 installed then the iphone docked ok. go figure - dont know why that makes a difference for itunes recognizing the iphone dock. dont recall if there was a restart. my bad for not updating this thread after my QT75 download issue was "solved".

• PC Crashes when iPhone docks

I have a Dell M1210 notebook running WinXP(latested updates)with Norton Anti-Virus installed. The PC runs fine as does iTunes. Plug in the iPhone dock, all OK! Plug in the iPhone and just after recognizing the phone as a digicam, the whole system crashs!! Windows Blue screen. I ran a Dell crash anyalyzer which brought up this Symantec driver as a possible issue: NavEx15.Sys.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?? Help?

I would have to suggest uninstalling Norton completely to see if that makes a difference. I can remember multiple times when Norton was the culprit in causing troubles with my pc's, I uninstalled it years ago and never went back. Although doing that didn't get rid of all my pc troubles, it done away with a bunch. You may also check Nortons website to see if there has been any reports of the same type of thing going on, there may be a fix/updated driver. It could also be that your Dell troubleshooter is wrong and it is something else. Do you have any other cameras installed? There have been a lot of reports about this problem on this forum.

• Is it o.k. to use original iPhone dock for iPhone 4S?

I've still had my original iPhone dock. I connected my new iPhone 4S to the original dock. It is working good to syncing on iTune with no problem I think...
If this works, can I use this original dock with iPhone 4S?
As I know, new iPhone 4S dock is compatible with only iPhone 4 and 4S. But I wonder this old and original iPhone dock is compatible with new iPhone 4S.
Thanks in advance for advice!

If the dock works, it should be ok to use with your iPhone 4S.  The pinouts of the connectors haven't changed and I've used an old iPod sync cable with my iPhone 4S with no problems.

• IPhone dock with a message or notification front led

Hello there,
is there a chance to get the iPhone dock with a message led in front to signalize whether there are unread messages and mails, lost calls or any other notification, e.g. low battery? All docks I found so far are non-communicative as well as the iPhone case itself is. I don't mean a notification for incoming calls like the flashing camera led, i think about a docked iPhone standing on the desk with switched off display and you can see whether it is useful to unlock the iPhone to check for mails or calls or even not by a single led in front that tells you about.
I hope there is no patent pending for other manufacturers so it would be great if Apple would enhance the docks with that tiny useful feature. And if I have a wish, don't make it only for iPhone 6, provide it for all iOS 7 capable iPhones.
Sincerely
Alex

This is a user-to-user forum. If you wish to offer a suggestion to Apple, you can do so here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
However, past history would indicate that this isn't something Apple would be at all interested in. It would be left to third party accessory developers.

• 3G and old iPhone docks

I noted that I cannot put the new 3G into my old iPhone dock. Does anyone know why the difference? The phone dimension are very similar! In addition to getting a new phone, I will have to get new docks for the car charger, car stereo and office. Bummer!!!

Jorge is right. I tried to put mine in the old iPhone dock and the only thing keeping it from fitting in is the curved back of the new phone, whereas the old one was flat. The official iPhone 3G dock is available on Apple's online store..but it is 30 bucks....kind of price-y for a dock that should have been free.
EDIT: Here's the link

I'm going to have to buy it because I can't live without a dock....

• Accessory not made for iPhone! It in the iPhone dock!?

My iPhone has a problem when it is put on its dock and ONLY when its put in the dock it occassionaly comes up with the "this accessory is not made for iPhone..." message.
This has happened 3 times over a period of 7 days- it does not occur everytime the phone is in the dock and it has never occurred any other time.
I have managed to get it to happen twice tonight but half pushing the phone into the dock BUT I can't get it to happen everytime - it came up about 2 times in 100 attempts over 4 hours to see if I could replicate it.
I have not restored it as it is so random I am not sure that restoring it will even fix it - although I will if it gets worse.
I have another iPhone dock I am trying and it has not come up in that dock but again it may not appear for hours or days as its so random!
There are no other problems with the phone. I don't know what to do!
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was in the shower when I received a call. I turned off the shower, blotted my ear, and tried to keep the phone dry. I got to my headset (corded one that comes with it), and plugged it in to be safe. All of a sudden I start getting the message you're talking about. I also had had the ringer turned off the day before. I have no idea what caused it, or if any of that was something above that started the issue. I wasn't getting the clicking sound when I turned off the keyboard, and that stupid message kept popping up.
I tried turning off the phone and resetting it, I unplugged and replugged the headphones, and blew the phone's dock connector, earpiece, and headphone jack. I turned ringer mode on and off with the switch. None of this seemed to work.
Then I plugged the phone in DIRECTLY to the computer, just with the cord and no dock. Be-deep. The sound I loved to hear. Sleeping the phone with the top right button now clicked again, and MOST importantly, I haven't gotten the message in the last 10 minutes!!!!!
I'd love to know if any of those situations I listed above was something you had done before this occurred. And I'd love to know if it works.

• Travel Cable/Normal iPhone Dock

This might sound like a daft question, but if I plug my travel cable into my normal iPhone Dock (not the dual one), it doesn't charge my iPhone and my BT headset at the same time. The charging light on the headset cuts out as soon as I plug the dock (without the iPhone in yet) into the travel cable.
Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me? My dual dock charges both together without any problems.

Mine does the same thing...it doesn't look like the travel cable charges both the phone AND headset...only the phone when both are connected...
pretty stupid. Still searching these forums and the web to see if this is by "bad"design.

• Can use airplay on other devices if I have my iphone docked in one

Hi Can anyone offer any advice? I'm looking to buy several airplay enabled devices to stream itunes around the house and understand that I can only play the same song out of all devices, but can anyone tell me that if they all have docking stations within the devices can I say play itunes from a docked station and then play other tunes to the remaining devices.
Cheers
Mark

Sprint can unlock it so it will work with other GSM carriers (except in the US).  There is no code involved.  Sprint has to send the unlock request to Apple.
