IPhone 4 earpeice no longer controlling phone?

iOS 5.0.1 earpiece stopped controlling phone. I assumed earpiece was dead. I have two spares so I tried them and they won't control the phone either.
Does this have to do with the jack in the phone? Any suggestions?

I am having the absolute exact same problem with my 2010 Hyundai Tucson.  After reading some of the other forum posts, it appears that this may be related to an iPhone update.  Have you had any luck with a solution?  I'm so frustrated.  To make matters worse, I was trying to trouble shoot the problem and narrow the issue, so I took my husband's Nokia Lumina phone to see if I could pair it....paired it within seconds.  No problem!  Ughhhhhh!  I need some suggestions.

  • Headphones no longer control phone

Firstly, I'd like to say I'm on my 4th iPhone 4s in 2 years.  I believe I am passed my Apple Care.  All previous iPhone 4s' were returned specifically for issues dealing with the reciever on the iPhone - sooner or later it would crap out and sound like a transitor radio.  Now, this has occured again on this one, for the 4th time, however, I am passed that issue, because it is quite a common problem (my brother is on his 5th for the same issue).  Another issue that is common with headphones is when iPhone gets stuck in 'headphone' mode even after removal (here is that thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/6897427#6897427).  I have worked through those issues.
On to the new issue.  Since I am now solely using the phone portion of iPhone with headphones only, the new issue is incredibly annoying.  Out of the blue, my 1-week old earbuds no longer controled the phone.  So, the volume mechanism which is also the microphone no longer worked.  I can hear clearly out of the headphones, but the volume control does not work, Siri does not activate, and the worst of all, the mic does not work.
How do I know the latter?  Well, my wife called me, I had to answer on the actual phone.  I could hear her fine through the headphones, but while the phone was in my pocket, she was saying bad connection or cannot hear me.  I noticed that I could hear this sharp distortion sound as I moved.  I took out the phone and she said she could now hear me.  This led me to the realization that mic on the iPhone was active and was causing the ruffling sound when rubbed against my pocket.  Now when I make a call with the headphones, if I rub the iPhone's mic, I hear the distortion, telling me it is on...so I have to hold the iPhone up to my mouth (like you would if it were on speaker) and I can hear through the headphones.
This *****.  Period.  I use my iPhone for work, and need HANDS-FREE!!!  There was another thread on this earlier, but it is now archived.  So I am starting it again.
    Here is that thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18253417#18253417
    Thanks for all help.
BTW - I have used a 1/2 a canister of compressed air in the jack, to no avail.

If you look in Setttings>Sounds is the Change with Buttons turned on? What other troubleshooting have you tried? Try a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. If that does not correct it, since the device is new, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store and have the device checked.

I want to use an old 3 GS iPhone that is no longer in service as a phone now as just an iPod to play music. When I connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, iTunes says it can't connect to the device because it didn't get a valid response from the device. How can I get the system to recognize the phone, and let me rename it as my iPod, instead of my phone?
As an aside, the current installed operating system on this old iPhone is 4.2.1, but that wasn't one of the selectable options in the operating system list dropdown below. Don't know if that makes any difference.

  • TS4268 iPhone users can no longer send me text messages now that i've moved to a non-iOS phone. Can iMessage service or Message users be refreshed to see me as a normal text message recipient?

iPhone users can no longer send me text messages now that i've moved to a non-iOS phone. Can iMessage service or Message users be refreshed to see me as a normal text message recipient?
I still have an iPhone, but haven't turned it on for weeks. And there's no SIM in it, so no cell service, just WiFi.  When I turn it on after a prolonged period of having it off (weeks), a bunch of messages popup that should have been forwarded to my new phone (same phone number and carrier as when I was an iPhone user) but appear to sit in iMessage queue indefinitely instead.
I'm guessing it has to do with the link that's made when an iPhone first realizes that it's talking to another iPhone and defaults, for all future texts, to iMessage.  You know, the green to blue switch.  How does that association get undone?
Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a fix?

your number can remain on the imessage server for some time

Go to your home screen, and then press the volume down or up button. It should say Ringer instead of volume. If it doesn't do that, try going into the clock app and try it there.

  • My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?..

My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?.. Is it because my 3g is only active on the android os and not the ios platform? Texts, Calls and Wifi work fine but the 3g doesn't work. My phone only shows 'GPRS' in the top left corner. Also I get a message come up saying "Could not activate mobile data network. You are not subscribed to a mobile data service".
    Any advice would be great.

Hi hexonxonx, I'm on o2. Thanks for your advice. You are right. All I had to do was change one of my APN settings to mobile.o2.co.uk and reboot my phone and this sorted it out straight away! Thanks again. Much appreciated . I was thinking I was going to have to go back to an android phone to use my 3g again but this eliminated that need. Thanks.

  • My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the ISO8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!!

My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the IOS8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!! I cannot afford to go over my data and I use wifi at home and work... I believe the updates have caused the issue, because it was working fine before the second update released (I hadn't put the first one one until I noticed it had stopped working, and by then the second IOS8 version had came out). They need to do a third update to fix this issue.

    If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service.

  • The Speaker phone option on my iPhone 4s is no longer working! Help!!

The Speaker phone option on my iPhone 4s is no longer working.  Whenever I press the speakerphone button I can no longer hear anything and can not get back to the call.  I then must end the call in order to hear anything again.  Its not the actual fault of the speaker either because I can still play music and hear it ring. It has always worked before and my phone is up to date. It seems to be the only thing that just randomly stopped working, and I use the speakphone option a lot.  Help me please!!
    Cheers!

  • My iPhone 3G is no longer being "found" by iTunes - please help

I am an advanced user, so this makes it even more baffling.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) and I have the iPhone 3G (OS 4.1)running with iTunes 10.0.1 (x64). I have also now updated to the latest iTunes 10.1 but I am still having the same problem.
The issue bellow suddenly started about a week: For some reason, when I plug-in my iPhone, it is no longer recognized by iTunes. I have "removed" and "re-installed" iTunes (re-downloaded too) but to no avail.
I have tried plugging in my wife's iPod Touch into the same exact machine (my computer) and the same USB cable was used and her iPod Touch was found with no problems. I then go and plug in my iPhone (using the same USB cable) into her old Windows XP laptop and it is found without any problems. I have tried using her cable on my machine, but same problem persists. When I plug-in my iPhone, iTunes just locks-up. As soon as I remove the phone, iTunes unlocks itself.
One other thing that might be of help to someone to diagnose my problem: When I plug in my iPhone, I get the USB "found sound" via Windows 7 and then it is repeated about 10 seconds later.
Also I have noticed is that my iPhone is found by Windows 7 without any problems because I am able to see it and access it (the photos) via Windows Explorer. Also, as soon as my iPhone is plugged in, it recharges just fine.
What could be wrong? I only need to access iTunes so I can sync/backup/update the phone.
Please help with any and all suggestions.

Yesterday evening, I was finally in contact with Apple, and to make the long story short, they seem to have "fixed" the problem. It's complicated to write it all here, but I will try. The problem was that the somehow my updated Apple Device USB driver was not correctly installed!
    So try this:
REMOVE exactly as it tells you here (in that particular order):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923?viewlocale=en_US
Reboot and then make sure all is gone as the way it tells you on the previous link I wrote above.
Create a new Windows 7 USER ACCOUNT with Administrative power. Call it anything you want, but for now, I will call it MIKE
    Reboot machine.
Login as the newly created user account (MIKE).
Re-install the X64 iTunes version. You don't need to reboot or start up iTunes.
    PLUG IN the iPhone.
Then go to Control Panel / System / Device manager. Look under Porttable devices and you should find Apply iPhone. Click on the driver version. It should say 6.1.7600.16385 (Date 6/21/2006). Close that top window. Now con to the Universal Serial Bus controllers under System. When you open that, you should see the first one listed as: Apple Mobile Device USB driver. Select it. Then go to driver. If it does not say that it is: 6.0.9999.52 (dated 9/16/2010), you have the same issue that I had.
You must then select UPDATE driver / Browse my computer and then you need to point to a directory called:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    or it may be inside:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
What you will need to have is the file called: usbaapl64.sys
That is the file that was never used by my computer, and therefore, caused this non-finding of iPhone in iTunes.
I won't go into the full details, but it seems that somehow during one of the iTunes installations or updates, the file did not get placed in the right directory and somehow some bad data got written into the registry and therefore it never was installed during the future iTunes installations / updates. Although it seems like Apple guys helped me with my problem, I still have not heard a logical explanation of why it happened in the first place. My computer is 4 weeks old and was built and clean-installed from scratch. Everything worked for 3 days and then suddenly it just stopped.
After you are done with this, try starting iTunes with your phone plugged in (doesn't matter if you plug it in later). Hopefully you will see your iPhone!
If all is okay, exit iTunes and LOGOFF the the user (MIKE) that you just created.
Switch back to your real user. Then go and DELETE completely (all files, settings options on) the temporary user (MIKE) you created.
Restart the computer and hopefully, when you start-up your iTunes and plug in your iPhone, you will again see your iPhone.
I hope this helps you! Please let me know.

  • Since downloading iOS7 onto my iphone 4, I no longer receive text notifications. How can I fix this?

Since downloading ios7 onto my iphone 4, I no longer receive text (or game) notifications. I do if my phone is in use, but not when the screen is dark and the phone is idle. If I click the top button to activate the phone, a text will be present on the screen before I unlock it, but there will have been no visual (screen activating with text in view) or auditory (text chime) alert. Has anybody else experienced this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?

I feel like such an idiot. I just figured out that when exploring the new control panel, I accidentally turned the Do Not Disturb function on. I've turned it off and all is well again.
