Iphone 4 FaceTime Sound Issues

When using FaceTime the video works fine but i cannot hear the person I am FaceTiming with, this problem seems to have started when i upgraded to iOS 4.2. The other person can hear me perfectly on their phone. Anyone else with this problem or a solution?

Don't want to state the obvious but..
a) Is the volume up...you can do this using the buttons on the right hand side of the iPhone
b) Is the mute button on...this is just above the volume buttons.
Just wanted to check..

  • FaceTime Sound Issues

So, along with wiping out my laptop, the updates in the entire system affected me. No iMovie, no iPhoto, and the most nerve-wrecking one is FaceTime. I call my friend while I'm listening to music on YouTube or watching a video and the sound for the YouTube video lowers. My friend is usually near a TV when I'm FaceTiming her, so that means I'm annoyed by the FaceTime sound, and can't listen to music without having to strain my ears. Is there a setting where you can increase the macs' sound , or at least decrease the FaceTime sound? I don't want to be rude and end our calls all the time.
    Thanks!

  • IPhone 4 caller sound issue

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have been having with my iPhone in the last day or two.
I can hear sound and my microphone works, for example when a text comes through, music, calls ect i can hear as well as being able to ring people on the Skype app and know my microphone works then but when I am actually in an call itself, I cannot hear the other participant nor can they hear me, it is blank on both sides.
Does anyone know a fix for this problem so I can actually call people again? I have tried restarting, resetting and everything you would usually do for a problem but nothing.
    Thanks for the help, Tom.

Similar issue here since ios4.3.5 upgrade.
I can hear people, they can't hear me. Occurs whether I'm using phone hand-held, on speaker, or on bluetooth.
Mic works fine on services such as Skype and voicenotes etc.

  • IPhone 4 FaceTime compatibility issue

I am not sure if anyone has brought this up before but I just found out this today myself. If you are currently using a iPhone 4 on 4.0.1 and you try FaceTime someone on a iPhone 4 4.0 the call will not be received on the iPhone 4 4.0. The iPhone 4 with 4.0 can make a FaceTime call to the 4.0.1 and work fine but not the other way around for some odd reason. Recommend everyone update to 4.0.1 to resolve that issue which it does from the test I did today.

    Interesting...anyone else?

  • IOS 7.1 on iPhone 4 causing sound issues - no text alert, lock sounds, lack of vibration (sometimes) - anyone else got this issue?

Basically pretty much ever since I updated to iOS 7.1, I'm no longer getting my text alert sound for SMS or iMessage, the lock sound no longer plays and there is sometimes a lack of vibration, I can assure the sound is up on high, it is not on silent or do not disturb - though i have it on this sometimes. Has anyone else got this issue? As it is very irritating and needs to be fixed.

If you update ur iphone 4 and lost all those features, the only way you can fix it is with itunes, plug in to ur computer and restore the IOS , before do that make sure to back up all ur info on icloud and ur computer.
    Good luck

  • FaceTime - sound issue

recently I can see and hear the person I'm connected with, but they can ONLY see me. They can not hear me me at all. I've tried turning on/off the phone, and resetting the original setting but nothing has worked so far. Any ideas? Thanks

Try this – Go to Sound in your System Preferences and check your Input Settings. The Internal microphone Built-in should be selected instead of Line In. You'll also want to check the volume settings; you may need to increase the volume on the Input level, or you may need to deselect the Mute.
If this doesn’t correct it, check the Video settings in FaceTime. You'll want to make sure that the Internal Microphone has been selected, instead of Line In (and that the Mute is off, too).

  • Iphone 5 message sound issue

I have a problem and i cant solve it. When i receive message my message sound is reply itself. I got 1 message but 2 - 3 times message sound comes. Its not about Message Repeat option in Settings. Its off. what can i do ?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

  • IPhone 3GS Muffled sound issue

    Hello.
Today my phone's sound was working fine for the whole day until I got home; my phone's speaker sound became muffled and very low, even though ringer volume is on the maximum setting. I've tried every suggested solution by other people, but none have worked. I've turned it on and off multiple times, and I've also tried leaving it off for an elongated time then turning it on a later time. I've confirmed that there is no dirt clogged in the speaker; besides, that would be quite unreasonable since it was working fine for the whole day and suddenly became muffled when I got home. The affected sound includes the lock, unlock, keyboard click, and music through the speaker. Will this eventually fix by itself? Does anyone have any other possible solutions?
    thanks

  • Sound issue on iphone 4 - 7.1.1

My mom has an iphone 4 that was handed down to her from my sister.  After one of the ios updates...can't remember which one...the phone stopped giving audible notifications for text messages.  As I have tried to troubleshoot this issue I have discovered the other following problems:
The phone will not play music on any speaker.  I was trying to connect the phone via bluetooth to a speaker bar and when I tried to play pandora, I got nothing.  I then disconnected the bluetooth to see if I would get sound out of the phone's speaker and got nothing.  I attempted to play a downloaded song and got nothing.
I then tried to see if I could find other issues and I did.  When I go into settings>sounds>ringtones I can switch ringtones and hear the ringtone sample.  When I go into settings>sounds>text tone, I can select any tone in the list and all I get is a vibration, no sound at all from any of them.
I also found that when pressing the volume up and down buttons on the side of the phone do not produce the pop up box that shows volume going up and down
I believe these three problems to be related as some kind of systematic software bug.  Can anyone confirm this or offer a possible solution. Keep in mind the phone does make sounds when someone calls also from the speaker phone.  The only non-sound issues are text notifications and playing music.  I find this to be a rather important problem because the phone can really no longer be used as a phone since my mom continually misses text messages because she does not get an audible notification.

    Hello hiknmt06,

  • Iphone sound issues?

Is anybody else having sound issues with their iphone? Ive had my phone for a few months now, and the sound on the part where you hear, and the speaker phone part cut out for awhile. Randomly..... That was about 3 weeks from having the phone. It came back on for a few days, and its not been working for a good month until today. I never changed any of the settings for anything, not even for the ringtones, or sound, nothing. In order for me to talk on the phone id have to have it on speaker phone to work. But I could never hear sound through those speakers when playing music, i could only do it through talking on the phone(hoping this makes sense so far). Im just curious to know if anyone else has had the same problem cause its kind of an annoyance to spend 400 bucks on a phone when you have these issues.

Just had another call to Apple support. This time they suggested sticking the headphone jack in and out a few times in case the phone was registering it was in headphone mode. This seems to have worked! (I think I've only used the headphones about twice.)
How on earth did the phone decide it was in headphone mode?! Result seems satisfactory but I don't think this should happen in such an expensive gadget.

  • Iphone 6 facetime - volume low on receiving end

iphone 6 facetime issue: low volume on receiving end.
I can hear the other person loud and clear. The receiving end can barely hear me.
Other apps like Skype is fine.

    Hi dragon eye,
Did you follow the troubleshooting steps in that article?
Follow these steps, testing after each with Voice Memos.
Unplug anything plugged into the headset jack.
If you're on a call and holding your phone next to your ear, speak into the microphone and make sure you don't block it with your fingers or shoulder.
If you're using a screen protector or case that covers the microphone, remove it. Clear any debris from the microphones.
    Restart your device.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If you've tried these steps and people still can't hear you well on calls, contact Apple Support.
If your voice is too faint or sounds unclear using iPhone, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • Sound issues in iOS6

I'm having random sound issues since upgrading iPhone to iOS6. For instance, after using iMessage I will sleep the phone without exiting iMessage. 5 mins later I will have messages sent to me but there were no sound notifications indicating such. Only if I exit iMessage prior to sleeping the phone will I hear notifications of new texts or iMessages.   Also, random sounds like the swoosh when sending an email will mute randomly. I have to shut the phone off and restart before it works again.    Why is this happening?

If you have a iMessage open and into a message, normally it will not sound.  I think it is because you already have it open and in it.  That is what I have noticed.

  • Iphone 4 rattling sound near camera

whenever I put the phone on a surface (when the unit is in horizontal position and not on hand), I hear a rattling sound. Also when I shake it, I hear a rattling sound near the camera. What could it be? Should I take it on the store? Or is it just normal?

Yes this is sort of normal.
All Iphone 4S have this issue. It's the shutter/ focus ring of the camera.
    Test it yourself:
Go to camera mode, tap on the phone to reproduce the sound and focus the camera while tapping it.
You will notice the sound changing/ getting less.
There is a difference between Iphones 4S. One has it louder than the other. If it is too loud or too disturbing, contact your Apple center.

  • Iphone 4s, keypad sound not working, volume buttom doesnt show up or down

    Hello,
I have bought my iphone 4s, 32gb 2 days back and i found out that the keypad sound does not work. i have gone to the setting, sound and turned on the sound of lock and keypad. However, its not working. also, the colume buttom when i click it up or down it doesnt show the bar, actually its doesnt work it shows only the symbol of sound.
i tried to reset, restore... no results
anyone can help me with that??
    Thanks

I spoke with Apple and they suggested doing a restore. I did this and the sound was restored. I started installing my tweaks and programs, each time testing the sound. When I installed "Hands-Free Control" the sound issue came back. This is a tweak to allow you to control Siri without having to hold the home button. When you activate the listening option, the sound on the phone stopped working. When you turn it off, it started working again. I dont know if the rest of you are have this Cydia tweak, but that was the culprit for me.

  • IPhone 4 to iPhone 4S FaceTime freezes iOS 5.0.1

I've got a iPhone 4 with 5.0.1 and one of my friend has a iPhone 4S 5.0.1 when we facetime after a couple of minutes the picture just freezes?
When I facetime with my other friend with an iPhone 4 4.3.3 its perfectly normal?
    HELP
    Thanks

searching to no service to service to searching to no service to service...
todays date (in case you missed it) ... 12-22-2011
I did NOTHING to change my iPhone4.  I was literally at work from 12:00 noon to 9:00pm.
All of a sudden, at 5:00pm, my iPhone4 decides it needs to constantly goto "searching" then to "no service" then back to "searching" then to "AT&T [5 Bars] 3G", then back to "searching" to "No Service" to ... you get the idea...
It continued with no end in sight.
Once home, after 4 hours of having a useless iPhone4 for 4 useless hours, I (to my wife's dismay) went to my home office to research if anyone else had a problem with this.  Mind you, I had latest Apple iOS 5.0.1...
    FFWD 3 hours later.
I found the post before my current post.  (by Shaun00013)  It lead me to hope (not believe) that if I used iTunes to do a backup of my iPhone4, then "Restore to factory defaults", then Restore iPhone from backup that my problem would be solved...
... (yes, I know i use too many "..."  so don't mention it!)
Now that I've done the backup / restore factory defaults / restore from backup: problem solved.
... [  :-)  ]  It's been 30 minutes with no repeat of my original issue!  YAAY!
This whole experience reminds me of a corrupted windows installation.  I didn't realize Apple iOS had the same issue...
I don't know if someone sent me an email with an iPhone virus ( is that even possible?!)  Or if my iOS just shat itself... but I know this post lead me to fixing my issue.
Hope this post of mine helps you too. If it does, sign in with your AppleID and tell us about it.  Then, the next poor helpless iPhone owner experiencing this issue will find this post faster through Google.
Gnite!  Hopefully I won't be back to this site anytime soon...
