IPhone 4 fire

Well I just woke up this morning and my daughters iPhone 4 melted to the charger and started to burn the couch. It was plugged into her MacBook last night. The computer is fine but the cord and phone is ruined. We yanked the phone from the USB cord did additional damage to the cord but the melting of the plastic to the phone, the burn marks on the phone and the couch is worse. Scared the crap out of me. Has this happend to a lot of people? I have not heard of this before.
I contacted support this morning sent photos of the phone and damage to the couch and they said they will get back to me. My daughter can't use the phone the home button is ruined so is the speakers. It won't charge anymore do you think they will replace the phone? It is out of warranty but isn't this a safety issue, good or to replace?

no luck Apple will not do anything.. so far.. i called them and they are trying to blame it on dust.. how can they, they did not look at the phone.. i set them pics bit not of the pins you cant see anything in the pictures. I went into the Apple store and I guess they are sending a ticket to Corporate Safety. I must say I really did not expect this from apple they are a really good company. I guess being out of warranty for 6 months lets them off the hook..?

The password is set on the WiFi router providing the service, by the owner of the network to prevent unwanted "guests" accessing the network. The only way to know it is to ask the owner permission to use the network. Otherwise, you have to find a free WiFi hotspot that doesn't require a password.

Iphone charger fire.

My iphone charger (bought in January) just burst into flames. Luckily it happened when I was in the room and could put it out, or else the room would have gone up. Is this something apple knows about?

It depends on how old it is. There was a recall of chargers about 2 years ago.

IPhone - setShowsTouchWhenHighlighted fires when cell is touched - why ?

The following code creates a button in a cell. Everything is created fine but if I touch anywhere in the cell the button highlight is fired. Is there any way to stop this ? I would like the highlight to fire only when I hit the button.

Update:
I did some testing this evening and found that the code posted in my first response doesn't solve the problem. I still don't know which message is being sent to the button to cause it to glow whenever the cell is touched, but I found out it isn't very easy to suppress that behavior. It might make sense to solve the problem by subclassing UIButton, but that's not so easy either (if you ever want to try that, here's a good reference: [http://blog.jayway.com/2008/12/17/uibutton-troubles-a-better-solution>).
Since I didn't want to subclass UIButton, I subclassed UITableViewCell so I could catch the begin touch events. However some more testing indicated that the button is getting a message before the touches reach the cell. Probably the best solution might be to catch touches in the first responder (e.g. one of the labels, etc.). However, I was able to suppress the glow by turning off showsTouchWhenHighlighted in the cell's touchesBegan method. Then I was left with the problem of how to turn it back on. I tried sending a delayed message back to the button but whenever the button got the message to restore showsTouchWhenHighlighted it would glow! I tried all kinds of workarounds, even removing the button from the superview for a while. But anytime the button became visible in less than 0.2 seconds. it would remember to glow. Keeping it hidden or removed from the superview for a longer period would succeed in suppressing the glow, but then of course, the disappearance and return of the button would be obvious to the user.
I finally decided to simply replace the button with a new one that wasn't determined to glow. Here's the code that works:

Lots of clean up to do, but I hope the above will get you started. The original button should probably be added in the cell's init, tho adding it in the data source is a good way to snatch the target address. Then maybe use [btnAdd allTargets] to get the target for the replacement button.

Iphone 4 randomly freezes - what hardware to swap

Good Afternoon, ive recently started up my own business fixing mobile phones - mostly cracked screens and chassis replacements.
Just recently i thought id got a bargain on ebay regarding an iphone 4.
It was described as working correctly, can make / receive calls and send texts etc but randomly locks up.
Ive got the phone today, unfortunately its locked to the 3 network so ive got a micro sim on the way so I cant actually proceed further at this point. Although it did crash once on me when i tried to select language's etc - had to hold the home and power button down until it turned off.
Ive read on the forums that this is a common fault, and can occur to any iphone - faulty or otherwise. And the main concensus seems to be to take it back to the store for a swap.
My main question is - seeing how im likely to come across this fault again - is the fault software or hardware related?
If its hardware related what circuit board is likely to be the culprit? If we could identify the problem then im sure I could just order the required part on ebay.
The fact that apple havent recalled the iphone and that they will accept these faulty iphone's back and swap for new suggests to me its an easy fix - its just easier for the technicians to go in the store room and get a brand new one.
Secondly ive just got another iphone 4 white - bought cheap as its totally dead. Tried a new battery and still nothing. Got a new dock / charging connector on the way - is it likely to be this at fault? Doesnt seem to be any sign of water damage, and it wasnt described as this on the ebay page.
When id swapped the new battery over i tried to charge the phone ( to see if id fixed it ) and it got extremely hot - so i disconnected right away and left it to cool off.
Whats likely to be the issue with that one?

Apple does not sell parts. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts. Apple considers iPhone to NOT be user servicable, and any attempt by anyone other than Apple to open or service an iPhone will void any warranty and forfeit all rights to have the phone serviced by Apple.
Your assumptions that a) the problem you have is widespread, and b) that it is an easy fix are incorrect.
If you want advice of repairing iPhones, try someplace like www.ifixit.com.
What you're doing is not supported or condoned by Apple.
By the way, almost every single case of an exploding iPhone or an iPhone catching fire can be traced to a botched 3rd party repair.

Need Help backing up multiple iOS devices to one Windows PC computer

So, first off, let me say that I have been scouring these forum posts as well as reading many google search results for what I am about to ask here, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer as to go about what I am trying to accomplish.
Some background – we are using 2 iphones both using the same Apple ID. We have no need to create separate Apple IDs as this has been working just fine for us for the past 3-4 years. Everything from text messaging, facetime, to purchases I have setup just the way we like it and we have no issues with anything conflicting.
So, here goes.
I would like to use one Windows computer using the same user account on said PC to be able to backup both my iphone and my wifes iphone.
Here is the issue I am running into. I have used iTunes to backup my wifes iphone and all went as expected. What I then tried to do was plug my iphone into the computer and attempt to backup my iphone but problem is, I get only the option to setup the phone as new or restore from my wifes backup, neither of which I want to do.
So, I thought about using the trick to create another library by holding down the Shift Key while starting iTunes and then selecting Create new library. But when I then plug in my iphone and fire up and select the newly created library to backup my iphone to, I still get only get the option to either setup as new or backup from my wifes iphone.
Am I doing something wrong when creating this new library or is what I am trying to do not possible.
I know I can create another user account on the PC and the backup will then work just fine as I had to do it this way for a family member because I could not get the second library option to work the way I am trying to make it work.
In this post I created, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6652211 I got no responses that helped me figure this out.
So, if anyone can set me straight on how to use iTunes to backup my devices using the same PC user account with all Apple devices using the same Apple ID I would greatly appreciate it.
Step by step would really be helpful if it is at all possible.

\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
So - if you cut the file and paste it elsewhere (Desktop or Documents or a flash drive) - will the iTunes be fooled into creating a second one?
Of course you would have to label them well in case you need to retrieve them later - but I guess worth a try
If it does not work you can always plop the prior files back to where you pinched them from

HP Envy h8.1534 drops wifi after Windows 8.1 upgrade

After upgrading my HP Envy h8-1534 from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1, now my computer drops out of my wifi network after about 10 minutes or so abruptly stopping work. I cannot pick up the Wifi again as it will not find the system - I have to reboot my entire computer, whereupon it will pick up the network. Other devices on the network - Toshiba laptop, iPhone, Kindle Fire -(not always on at the same time the network drops on the desktop) don't seem to be affected, and still connect. This is a HUGE problem. All indications appear that it's a driver issue but HP assistant tells me that all my drivers are up to date. My security has not changed since I had Windows 8.0 and it worked fine then. The computer did not drop off the network like this before I updated to Windows 8.1. Please help!

Battery not charging after dock connector replacement, iPhone4

Hi all,
My iPhone4 suffered mild water damage (water damage indicator not triggered) and misbehaved on that day. So I turned off the device and put it in a bag of rice for almost a month. When I eventually took it out, it was almost as good as before except for some weird quirks. One of them is the audio control. I can listen to music using headphone jack, but cannot listen through speakers. I see some corrosion on my dock charger. I am still able to connect to iTunes and charge using cables. I know my speakers works as I am able to hear the phone ring. However increasing and decreasing volume shows only the ringer icon with no bars underneath. Upon searching online I found out (in another thread on this website) that the phone could believe it is connected to some kind of docking device. I tried cleaning the dock using a brush, but no use.
So I took some time and replaced the dock connector. After I finished re-assembly and turned on my phone, I noticed that my audio issue is resolved. I am now able to adjust volume using the buttons and can see the volume level (bars) go up or down. Also I can listen to the music from the speakers. However it is not syncing/charging.
Logically this can mean two likely issues (1) I have a faulty dock connector (2) I messed up my battery during disassembly (The battery flex connector was too tight and while I was removing it with the plastic spudger, it popped up suddenly and caused my spudger to go in a tad too far. My flex cable did not rip off and I didnt see any broken pieces, so I assumed nothing bad happened, but I am not sure).
If my dock connector is faulty, then my audio problem should not have been resolved correct? Because the logic board would not know that I have a new clean dock connector installed. This is what I am assuming, I am not sure. If some one could clarify this assumption, that would be great.
Of course this leads me to believe that I messed up my battery. I don't have a spare battery to try out, need to buy one.
Meanwhile I have a spare dock connector to try out. I am not sure if that is going to help. I am hoping someone in this community and say that it is obviously one problem or the other. If not, I will go through the dock connector replacement again and hope it all works out.
Also does anyone know if I can just plug in the new dock connector to the logic board and try syncing (of course with the battery connected) while my phone is still open (and the other components have not been removed)? This would seem like a nice quick test prior to going through the full repair. I am not sure if this is safe.

iPhones are not user servicable. Apple does NOT sell iPhone parts. Any parts you can possibly get for them have one of three possiblie origins:
1) Counterfeit
2) Stolen
or
3) salvaged from other iPhones, almost always phones that don't work for one reason or another.
We can't advise you on how to fix your phone.
Apple won't touch that phone any more.
Either look for advice someplace like ifixit.com, find a competent repair shop, or dispose of it and buy a new phone.
EVERY single documented case of an iPhone catching fire or exploding can be traced directly to damage caused by a botched repair by an unqualified person.
Is it safe? No. Your phone is not safe. It will never be "safe" again.

I fix a lot of phones and have only experienced this once with a customer.She told me that the screen went black but the phone still rang.I thought she was just doing something wrong or that maybe she dropped it and the LCD ribbon cable hopped off the board.By the time she got the phone to me the battery had completely died as she could not turn it off.After I received the phone I plugged it in and to my amazement it came alive after the usual 5 or so minutes it takes an iPhone to fire up after being dead.So if possible let it fully drain and then plug it in at the mains charger.Hope this helps.

Error (3004), Unable to update to ios 7

Okay, so i've been trying to update my iphone 5 to the ios 7 but i've been having problems. Whenever I try to update my iphone, midway through the process an error message pops up saying, "Iphone could not be updated. unknown error occurred (3004)." I've tried the following:
- Clearing DNS cache
- Re-installing Itunes/repairing Itunes
- Shutting down/ restarting
- Setting Internet Explorer as default
- Restarting Iphone
- Turning fire wall on and off
- Proxy Settings
I've been dealing with this for days now, usually I thought you would be able to just update through your iphone settings > Software Update. But I can't seem to. If anyone is able to help, please do. :c (I am also currently using Windows 7.)

This is really poor stuf from Apple. iTunes will connect through a non-BT (ie proper) router but when you come to do a system / OS update, Apple servers don't recognise a PC that isn't connected through a standard Windows rubbish connection. It looks like the server doesn't know the difference between PPOA and PPOE, and gives the 3004 error whatever you try and do.
Even if you are connected to iTunes, you CANNOT update an iPad or an iPhone using such a connection, and it is utterly unprofessional that the guys at Apple can't walk through anything but a single lame setup. The hours I have spent trying to sort this out is beyond belief. Throw it away, get an Android, They work.
(I use all devices in my work as a web company CEO, and believe me I know the difference between what works for a consumer and what doesn't).

DSLReports claims to have received word from a source noting that AT&T is extremely nervous about the impending launch of MMS for the iPhone scheduled for this Friday. Early testing of the service has apparently already placed a strain on the company's MMS servers, resulting in a test outage yesterday and a last-minute rush to beef up capacity beyond the measures already taken.
AT&T and its MMS partners are already seeing "record traffic during peak hours of the night" with just the users selected for testing.
That early testing has been a little rocky, with AT&T seeing a fairly significant test outage yesterday that has them rushing to beef up their MMSC messaging servers. Estimates among those working on the project are that traffic on AT&T's wireless network will be about 40% higher all day on Friday as iPhone users fire pictures and video at one another.
The source also revealed AT&T's plans for rolling out the service on Friday, with deployments scheduled in groups to begin at 10:00 AM Eastern time and new groups being activated on an hourly basis after that in order to slowly ramp demand and gauge service performance.
"Starting at 10AM Eastern (on the 25), AT&T will send out a mass text to a group of iPhone users telling them that MMS now works on their phone," says one source familiar with AT&T's MMS plans. "They will keep doing groups of phones on the hour throughout the day" assuming all goes well, says the source.

Web Fonts not displaying on 8.1 RT

I'm using Smythe (Edge Web Font) and Pirata One (Google Web Font) in an Animate 3.0 composition. The fonts are working perfectly on all my test devices except my Window 8.1 RT tablet. Mail 3.6 Inbox not getting new Gmail mail

So since I updated to 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 (both use Mail 3.6), the Inbox of Mail will not populate properly from my gmail hosted IMAP account. The All Mail and label folders are all fine but the Inbox won't show messages newer than 11:28 am on August 4th.. it's the 7th now.
I've tried rebuilding the inbox, turning off my rules, hunting through the preference files, removing the account and making a new one (re-downloading all mail for that account) - nothing works. I either get the same stopping point or I get a completely blank (empty) inbox.
Anyone know of a fix?

I've been experiencing this for 3 months now. Totally sporadic. I've checked preferences, rebuilt mailboxes, etc. to no avail. It's like going to start an unreliable car on a cold morning. Sometimes it cranks, sometimes it doesn't. Hasn't downloaded new mail for a day. Probably will tomorrow.
I'd like to go to 10.5.8, but I don't want things to get worse. When I really need to read email (other than my iPhone), I fire up Thunderbird, and there are all my new messages.

Can't setup Ovi mail.

Previously had no problems with Ovi mail but for the last few months I'm getting username/password incorrect errors when trying to get my mail on any of my devices (iPhone, Kindle Fire HD & E7) so far I've cleared the cache, removed & reinstalled the account & changed my password but no difference however I have no problem accessing the account via the computer.
