IPhone 4 freezes, need to reset to fix

When I purchased my iPhone 4 (under contract) it would freeze when either trying to make a call, or when I hang up.
IOS 5 seemed to fix that but now my phone will randomly freeze once of twice a day.
I have updated to IOS 5.0.1 but still have the problem.
Sometimes the phone will unfreeze itself after a few minutes, or I will have to reset the phone.
Every now and then it will also turn itself of and not power on until it has been plugged in for at least 30mins, even though the battery is over 50% full.
I make sure all apps are closed once I have finished using them.
Is this a common issue and is there a fix?
I don't want to have to go to the apple store and having them tell me there is nothing wrong with the phone because is wont 'freeze for them'

I'm experiencing the same problem and I'm very frustrated. This is my first iPhone but I'm sure it's not because of anything I did wrong. Here are just some of the incidents:
* I was watching a podcast and it locked up and showed the apple logo. Forced to do a hard reset
* I exported a video from iMovie and after that I tried going into the facebook app and I got kicked out to the home page. Tried that a couple of times with the same result. Then I got the black screen with the apple logo and the spinning icon thing. Forced to do a hard reset
* Today this happened about 3 times. I would be in any app (or even the home scren). It would go to the black logo screen. I click the wake/sleep button and I'm taken to the ulock screen. So, the phone does not get locked up but something strange is happening. I'd eventually get to the home screen but the icons are scattered all over the place and I can't 'touch' anything. I'd click wake/sleep and eventually the phone would appear to have recovered and functioning fine. But after a few clicks it will eventually freeze completely.
So, in 4 days, I've had to reset it about 2-3 times each day. This is my first iPhone and I'm very disappointed and frustrated at this point. And I thought that the reception/antenna issues were going to be risky enough! I bought the phone from an AT&T store. If I go to the Apple store and they determine that I need a new phone, will they make me go back to the AT&T store or will they be able to handle it there?

    Hi,
    We've got an intranet running on SharePoint 2007.
    We also enforce alot of group policies to our users.
    But there is a problem that keeps reoccuring:
    On random moments, when a user tries to edit a document on any random document library in SP 2007, it gets opened in read-only mode.
    The only temporary fix we found for this is resetting the IE settings in Internet Options -> 'tab' advanced -> Reset IE settings... and pressing Reset.
    We think it is some GPO setting that we have malconfigured or forgot to configure and we hope that someone could point us  in a direction to troubleshoot or even solve this.

    I also suspect that there might be issue with IE plug-in so could you confirm that? you can also tell su what plug-in you see in IE.

    If you're using iOS 7, you'll have to force it into recovery mode and restore it to remove the passcode, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.

    Ok, so I am one of the many who have suffered from my iPhone 4 freezing, restarting and/or locking up on me.
    I have combed through the discussion threads searching for a fix but never found one that was proven to work. Things like hard resets, restoring from backup, restoring from new etc... People would claim one of the above fixes worked only to return to the thread minutes, hours or days later to report that the problems had started again.
    I understand that the fix that worked for me may not work for everyone, but I'm sure it will work for some. It is a simple fix that I have not seen mentioned in any thread and thought it would be worth sharing.
    Fix: Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    My iPhone 4 was either freezing, restarting or locking up on almost a daily basis, sometimes several times a day. Since resetting my settings almost a week ago, I have had no problems!
    It is the simplest and least inconvenient fix I have seen, so it's worth giving it a shot!

    My iphone 4 just started to warm up and the battery is draining quick.  Closed everything and reset to no avail.  Turned off bluetooth, increased push time and checked location settings for new applications.  Weather Doodle was a bit suspicious as it had a purple direction indicator next to the setting.  The only other new app I installed was Lego instruct.  I disabled one of the 4 mail accounts I had that is having network difficulties, went to airplane mode and still I see %1 drain every 10 or 15 minutes.  I'll remove the new new apps and reset to see if it is related to the new apps.  If that doesn't work, I'll try email account reset at home wifi and see if that fixes the issues.

    I have the same problem; tried a phone restore, both restoring data and setting up as new phone with factory settings, reset all settings, re-boot, remove apostrophe, put in fridge, you name it!
    I think there's quite a few iphone 4s users with the same problem!
    I called Apple they said it's a hardware problem, but it has worked for nearly two years; they say go to the Apple store and they can provide a replacement phone for approx. £150!
    I've been into the O2 shop where I bought it and they knew the problem exactly; said they had sent a few phones off for repair and had them back awith a report they cannot fix it because it's a software problem!
    An assistant in the shop had the same issues; logic says it's a software problem and hopefully Apple will fix it with a patch but at the moment they seem to be avoiding everyones comments!
    If anyone else has any ideas these would be appreciated?

    If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
    The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
    The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
    Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
    Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
    Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

    You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

    After researching this, I understand that I will need to reload iTunes on a new computer, deactivate the prior computer and authorize the new computer with iTunes. I can then restore any apps and music purchased through iTunes. (Insert Question 1 Here.) Then Sync the phone with the new account, taking care to do it manually so as not to overwrite the information on the phone.  This should restore the apps and music to my phone. (Insert Question 2 Here.) This process will not restore photos (Insert Question 3 Here.) I would like to over write my current phone calendar (start fresh remove all appointments) and have it sync with a different iTunes.  (Insert Question 4 Here) .

    Question 1:  Apple help states that you can download previous purchases directly to phone with iOS4.3.3.  Then later states that iOS 5 or later is required for iPhone (CDMA Model).  ON this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519  I am still running Version 4.2.1 on my iPhone 3. Will this cause difficulty with restoring apps and music (purchased through iTunes) to my phone? 
    Question 2:  What happens to data stored in the apps within the phone?  Like password information stored in Splash ID, Files Stored in Air Sharing, or photos stored in a separate app (not the standard photo library)?

I want to ensure the contacts are NOT deleted, but I want the calendar to be overwritten and start fresh.

    The software update process does not touch any user data or settings. Fact is, merely updating your software should not have deleted your contacts. Something else is going on here. First of all, the only signed firmware available for your phone is iOS 4.3. So, how were you able to update to iOS 4.2.1, since that is no longer available from Apple? First thing done when you update software is an iPhone backup. Included in that backup are your contacts. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC, right-click your phone in the left device pane & select "Restore from Backup". Select the backup made when you started to update your phone. Note: this will also install iOS 4.3 on your phone.

    It seems your iPhone is slowing down and not responding frequently. To rectify this issue you may want to consider performing a restore on the device, and then restoring your data from a backup via iCloud or iTunes. 
    If the issue persists after restoring your backup, you would then want to consider restoring the device and setting it up as new. Below I have linked to article which offers guidance on both of these restore methods:
