IPhone 4 froze during iOS 7.02 update

I just attempted to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.02 (from iOS 7) and had the phone freeze up during the verification of update process.
After disconnecting the phone from my laptop it wouldn't even allow me to power down the phone for a few minutes. I finally got it to power down and reconnected it to my laptop via USB sync cable and was advised by iTunes to restore the phone.
After restoring and updating the phone now runs "fine" (iOS 7 is just a little to much for my iPhone 4 I think) though rather slow.
Current version iOS 7.02 (11A501).
Planning on updating to the 5s pretty soon.

No,you're wrong....
there is iOS 7.2
I updated my iPhone 4S few hours ago !!!!!!
Yesterday appeared a notification on my iPhone 4S for iOS update.
What I remember is first version of update 7.1 which was around 23 MB. I updated to the 7.1. After that appeared another version for update which was 7.2. So, I updated again to the last version which was 7.2. After finishing the update, the iPhone was restarting and turned off !
When tried to turn it on, it does not worked and appears a message (Picture message) that connect your iPhone to iTunes. When I connected to iTunes, it says you should restore yours to its original settings !!!!!!!!!
What the he**l is going on ? If I restore it, I would lose all my datas !!!

  • IPhone 3GS froze during iOS 5.1.1 update - how do I get out of recovery mode without having to restore?

So I tried to update my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1, like iTunes told me to do, and it froze part way through the installation for a couple of hours.  I tried to "reset" the iPhone by pressing both the home and power buttons simultaneously, but now iTunes tells me my iPhone is in recovery mode.  From my limited knowledge, it seems I need to restore my iPhone, but I don't want to lose anything, like my SMS history.
Is there a way to get out of recovery mode without having to restore?
    Thanks!

I came across this post as my iPhone 3Gs had gone into recovery mode on its own accord.   I had hundreds of photos unsaved and was gutted when I saw this post, I felt even worse as it was not the information (gdgmacguy) I wanted to read.
Unfortunately, the above post is simply wrong! A system cannot destroy information in a blink of an eye.   If it were that easy, the forensic teams across the world would have a hard time.  A criminal could simply force a phone into recovery to remove all the data.  Please!
I managed not only to take the phone out of recovery mode but also, salvaged all the data held on it.
To be fair, I am a little annoyed at Apple for not offering a salvage option on the device for such a situation.  And it may be that they will not like me sharing this information, in which case I believe this view to be morally wrong because photos are so important.  We all make mistakes, in terms of forgetting to backup from time to time.
What I used was the Redsn0w software, running as an administrator in XP compatibility mode.  In the ‘Extras’ section it as a Recovery Fix option.  It simply runs some software that takes the device out of recovery mode.  I had to run it twice for some reason but the second time (out of desperation) worked a treat.  The phone is now exactly as it was before it went into recovery mode.  More to the point, it allowed me to backup all the photos and videos that I had failed to do before hand.  And let’s face it, photos and videos are usually the most valuable stuff we keep on our phones.
I hope this help anyone in the same situation. I really hope someone from apple reads it and is able to convince the bosses that a recovery option is very important.  And to take note that YES it is possible to recover data on a phone stuck in recovery mode.  And more than likely it would be easier for apple, compared to other non-apple professionals.
    Good luck.

iPhone 4 crashed during ios update (5.0.1) and won't restore. anyone know how i can get my iPhone working again?

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 for details.
Then you can restore your phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

When going to your software updates on your device it will provide you with the latest available update for your device.
the iPhone 4 will update to iOS 7.0.4 provided all other updates the device is asking for has been completed.
    Good luck friend.

  • Iphone froze during iOS update

My iPhone 4s froze up the other day.  I was installing the newest iOS update.  It starts with the apple logo and then a progress bar starts to build underneath it not long after that starts it switches to a loading wheel that freezes up until it starts the process all over again.  I tried both holding the power button and the soft reset which both just start this same process over again.  I tried connecting to my MacBook but it says I need to verify on the phone that I want to connect to iTunes, which I can't do because I get nothing on the screen besides what I already described.  Any suggestions?  Thank You.

    Hey jonesjm25,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like something may have been interrupted during the update process. To resolve your issue, let’s try restoring your iPhone in recovery mode:

  • IPod froze during ios update

I tried to update my iPod Touch 4th Generation with the new ios6 release but it froze during the update. Now all I get when I try to turn the iPod on is a blank screen. Can anyone advise me?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have an iPhone which froze during software update to a picture of iTunes and USB cable.  I have never loaded this device on my computer.  How do I unlock the phone?

My iPhone froze while downloading a new update.  The screen now shows a picture of iTunes icon and USB cable.  How do I unlock the phone if I never registered the device on a computer?

Have you tried to restore the iPad back to factory settings from within the Setting App?  You might also try and hard "reset" by holding the power button and the home button at the same time until the iPad 2 restarts.
Besides that, find a friend with a computer and try to update it from their comptuer, or if it is close and convenient go to the Apple Store and they will be able to help you.

  • Iphone 5s bricked after ios 8.02 update

Yesterday I attempted to update my iphone 5s to ios8.02. The update didn't appear that big and my wifi is currently out so I decided it should be ok doing it with 3g. The update appeared to download fine and I proceded to install. The loading bar was on for about 5 minutes at which point I left it to do stuff around the house, when I came back the phone was stuck on the black screen with the apple, I left it longer and noticed every minute or so the screen would flash blue then go back to the apple. I can't turn off the phone or restart it, I simply wait until the battery finishes. I've tried since the battery emptied but still the same situation.
Are there any fixes I can try myself as I am in Sardinia and as far as I can see there are no authorised dealers nearby.
Btw nothing unusal installed on my phone just ios 8.01

    Hi Si7,
Welcome to the Apple Support Community!

  • My iphone is froze during a reset at the itunes symbol and usb plug

my iphone froze during a reset at the itunes symbol and usb plug with the arrow pointing at symbol.  how do i get past this point as my itunes account is not even recognizing my phone now?

Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
    Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
    Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.
    Cheers

  • IPhone 4S and this iOS 7.1 update - wifi issues

Well first it happened to my wife's 4S on iOS 6 updates, and now me on iOS 7.1 update - lost the wifi capability on my 4S too.  I've looked through the various posts on these forums of people suffering the same problem over and over and over again.  "Mr Apple" if these updates are not compatible with certain devices then at least have the common decency to tell us so.  I for one have had enough of sticking iPhones in the freezer every other day, and I'm certainly not going to do that with two broken 4S's now.  So I'm off to the Samsung store to buy a Galaxy.....  nuff said......

    Hi,
I have an IPhone 4 and I updated it to IOS 7.1 about a week ago and since this update the IPhone keeps on rebooting every time I use apps such as Facebook, Twitter or Whatsapp. It is very annoying to see your IPhone reboot twice or more times a day while you are working and it seems that a plausible solution is to go back to the previous version of IOS. If you have a different solution, please let us know because I'm not the only IPhone user with this problem. Thanks!
