IPhone 4 invalid sim
Hi,
Late last year I returned my iPhone 4 to an Apple store as it was faulty. As it was out of warranty I paid a fee and had the phone replaced. I had not used this phone as I received an iPhone 5 at the same time. Today I went to set the phone up for a friend and it came up with a invalid sim card error saying "only compatible sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the sim card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to receive a replacement sim". I have tried two different sims and receive the same message. What is going on? and is this phone even going to be covered by warranty anymore (90 day service limited warranty?)
Being that apple have actually replaced the phone i have no idea who the provider would be (its definately not optus) trying to track down a telstra microsim now to try out as thats who the original phone was locked to before i had it unlocked (properly through telstra) so hopefully that works

ThanksWithout contract is not the same as unlocked. The update to iOS 7 relocked
the iPhone to the wireless carrier to which it was originally locked. You must
contact that wireless carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If you used jailbreak or other hack to unlock the iPhone initially, the method
used may prevent a legitimate unlock from succeeding and may render your
iPhone unuseable. -
my iphone 4s has been reporting invalid sim/sim card failure intermittently for a week. I thought it was a one/two-time thing, so had to manually eject SIM card and put back in. Today, after it happened twice in 12 hours, someone told me to reset - i thought they meant reset all settings, not network settings. while in the middle of resetting, there was an invalid SIM card again. so a few questions - which should i do first? try to manually back up from itunes (not connected to cloud - will be after tonight!), or eject SIM card? don't know if one will jeopardize the other. also, the last time i backed up was 6 days ago - have taken hundreds of pics since then - are those all lost? is there a way to essentially not reset? i thought the reset was okay because it said i'd lose no data or media. Help! thanks much!

I have a brand new iphone 4s unlocked version from singapore and I am experiencing constant network fluctuations on my iphone , no service, call failed, invalid sim, sim failure, bars fluctuating from 5 - 3 - 2 - 1, no signal/bars searching etc... Ifeel miserable after trying out all the options changed multiple sims, tried multiple carriers, restored the phone back and have set-up as new device but the problem does not get solved... its is so frustrating that after investing on a world's most expensive phone you cannot enjoy the calling features which the phone offers which is the main thing you own the phone for.. Rest of the things are working.. The funniest part I am not able to make calls or receive calls but can access the internet.. I have tried every possible thing and really very frustrated with this iphone of mine...I hope the problem gets solved.. would anyone have any solutions to this problem.. Does it mean one should never update software as I hear that after updating to IOS.5.1 the problem has started coming and same has been with there.... Apple says its a hardware failure which is very difficult to digest as sometimes I get 5 bars and able to make and receive calls but 95% of the time I am unable to. If anyone has any solution I will be very happy if he or share can share the same. Many thanks. its so disgusting to experience this on top of this apple does not support global warranty for the phone as you need to go to the country from where you bought the phone for replacement.. Truly sad state of affairs.. very very very dissappointing.

I had already update mi new factory unlocked iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1.1 and I still having problems with "invalid sim". I'm from Argentina and here we don't have official service. PLEASE HELP ME, WHAT CAN I DO??? In Argentina is too expensive an iPhone 4S. Please I need help to continue believing in Apple. Thanks a lot. If anybody speak spanish better.
Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller? Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones. The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
Try these steps, as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup -

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

my iphone 5 won't let me call anyone and it says invalid sim in the top left corner where it should say sprint. i do have wi-fi and i can send texts to people. does anybody knnow how to fix it?

My iPhone just said "SIM failure" and now says Invalid SIM in the upper corner. What's this all about? Any ideas on how to resolve this.
Looks like the Sim card had a catastrophic failure. Burnout, short somethng like that.
You can try to take out the tray and reseat the sim card inside and see if that gets it back.
Also try resetting the phone at least once by holding down the home and power buttons until the Apple Logo shows up.
If none of this works you'll have to contact your cell carrier to get a new sim card, as it probably fried and is no longer functional. -
If i turn my phone off for a while and turn it back on, I will have service for a couple of minutes. And then it says failure SIM or invalid SIM or no SIM. Then I have no service and can only use my phone with wifi making it no better than a ipod
Could be a bad SIM card or an iPhone hardware problem.
Try a new SIM card first. You can get a new SIM card at an ATT retail store. After explaining the problem, there should be no charge for the new SIM card.
If no change after that, call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby. -

I updated my iphone 4 to iOS 7.0.2 and iTunes 11.1.1 but have not been started yet due to pops up a message " INVALID SIM CARD" though sim is active as well as pin is unlocked. Need your feedback soon.

Just received new unlocked Iphone 5 from Apple store and getting "invalid sim" message with sim card still works ok in original Iphone 4. Have tried reinserting multiple times and all the reboot atempts advsed in some of the forums but still no good. Have done the full activation process with ITunes
Replacing with another SIM is not an option. SIM is OK It still works fine in old phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get my new phone working with original sim? Any help much appreciated.Ocean20 is correct; the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 use different-size SIMs, so there's no way you could be using the same SIM in both phones unless you have some sort of adapter to use a nano-SIM in a micro-SIM phone. Is that what you're doing?
And in what country and from what store did you purchase this iPhone? -

My iPhone 5 was factory unlocked by T-Mobile Austria. I've got an unlocking guidance. I've made it through, but I get Invalid SIM error all the time. I've contacted T-Mobile several times, if they completed my request.Their answer was: AL_PENDING_UNLOCK The imei'01341600574xxx' is pending unlock. Any solutions?
If you did not get the "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked" message when you restored iOS, then the unlock is NOT complete. Talk to the carrier again. You may also want to call AppleCare and ask them to check the unlock status in their system via the serial number before hand just so you have some ammunition.
Now... I'm not implying that you have done any such thing, but just for the sake of complete information, if the phone was ever hacked, jailbroken, or otherwise "unlocked" by anyone other than the carrier it was originally locked to, it may no longer be possible for it to process a legitimate unlock.
Is it still able to activate using a T-Mobile Austria SIM? Are you the original owner of the phone? -

Hi my brother gave me his i phone 4 as he has now had an up grade as his contract had ended. I have put in a pay as you go sim on the same network and it says invalid sim?
Which carrier is this, and where? Some carriers will not permit iPhones on their pre-pay plans - they only allow iPhones on their network with a full voice+data monthly plan.

If that doesn't work, you can just take out the sim and put it back in. To take it out, you put a paperclip into the small hole on the right side of you iphone. Press it in and the sim will eject. Then just press it back in once removed. Hope this helps.

recently while in was dubai for a small vaccation i bought iphone 5s (32GB 818USD) from a apple premium seller ISTYLE store and used a sim card i bought from a carrier name etisalat dubai and everything went smooth. however when i returend back my country and tried to use my local sim it didnot work. message shows invalid sim. i had a chat with apple online they instructed me to conatact ISTYLE and etisalat. as per itstyle (apple premium seller) they dont sell locked phone and and as per etisalat they dont lock phones for using there sim. also as im living in my country its not easy contact dubai these places. is there any solution for this.Glad that worked for you.
VZN activated two sims for me via phone. It showed all systems were go on their end, but it just won't happen.
People are starting to take to the internet with the same problem. Apple know what's going on, I just hope it's resolved asap.
