Iphone 4, ios5 upgraded, issues with iMessaging.....activation unsucessful, no associated telephone number, just email.

1. upgraded to ios5
2. activated iMessaging
3. get message saying carrier may charge for activation texts - never received these - no matter how many times i try to activate
4. keeps saying activation unsuccesful
5. allows me tho, to sign in with apple id
6. recipients receive iMessages in their text inbox but from my email address
7. if i sign out of apple id cannot use iMessages
8. iMessages has defaulted to email address, not telephone number as it should
9. if i try to add another email adress it will alow me but there is nowhere anywhere at all for caller id
10. i cant delete that email adress as it is the primary one that im signed in with as my apple id
11. i have done a hard restore, ive turned all my notifications, imessaging, face time off then turned phone  off and on again....
12. considering a restore thru itunes
13. also considering a DFU
14. and finally considering flushing  the bloody thing!!
can anyone help?

iMessage is a strange one for me too...
When I first activated it, it would not show up texts I sent or rcvd on both my iPhone and iPad.. just iPhone... I played with this for a long time before changing the "Caller ID" setting from within iMessage settings... NOT the one in the phone settings...
After I chose to use the email (Apple ID) assigned to iMessage the syncing worked! this doesn't change the fact that my regular phone number shows up to non iOS5 devices I text... very strange for me too...
it does work however I had to change that setting in order to get it to work...
As for cant activate... I had that issue at first but after first day it worked fine...perhaps network lag or iMessage lag due to too many users in at once...

  • Problem with iMessage contacts being separated by phone number and email

Hi all, sorry if this thread is a duplicate of another, I've seen some that are similar but none seem to match the exact situation I'm having.
Me and 3 other friends have a group iMessages thread where we talk to each other.
We each have several devices: ie. I have a Macbook Air and an iPhone 5S, one has a Macbook, an iPhone 4, and an iPad, etc etc. Essentially we all have a mix of devices which we can use to read the thread, all using the same Apple ID and with our phone number added.
The problem is, every so often and for no discernible reason, someone will send a message and it'll start a new thread: this usually happens on my iPhone but occasionally it happens on my Macbook. Sometimes, what has become 2 threads on my phone will be only one thread on my Macbook, and vice versa. Same applies to my friends. However, sometimes what has become 2 threads for them is still only one thread for someone else, as though some of us have gone "out of sync".
When you compare the contacts in the 2 threads, they are IDENTICAL (can't stress this enough, the contacts themselves have not been duplicated), however when I look at the same contact from one thread, their phone number will be highlighted in blue. In the other thread, their email address will be highlighted in blue.
Therefore the problem seems to be that devices are unable to bring together an iMessage sent from a contact's phone with one sent from their email. If the information for both email and phone number are correctly filled in for a contact, why can Messages/iMessage not realise it is the same person and bring them together?
The problem is, sometimes a message sent from the same device will first be sent from the phone number, then the next will be from the email address (or rather, everyone else's devices are seeing it that way, they're not doing anything different than usual, just typing in the thread and pressing send). Its as though the device is choosing one then the other, seemingly at random, and iMessage doesn't seem to be able to add them to the already existing thread but instead creates a new one as the "source' is different. Is this behaviour intended? Surely it can't be.
Is this something to do with the "You can be reached by iMessage at" setting in iOS. One of us needs to be reached by both his email and phone number so we can't just all turn off the email on our phones/iPads for example.
Is this a known problem? Is there something we can do about it? Is it ever going to be fixed?
We've tried other messaging programs but they're just not as well integrated as Messages, and obviously being able to switch between my phone and my Macbook is hugely convenient.
Any help would be much appreciated, we're now at the stage where we have 2 iMessage threads and a backup LINE group chat for when things are completely unfollowable due to every other message going to the duplicate thread.
    Thanks in advance.

When you go to Settings>Messages do you see your Apple ID at the top?  Also, when you go to Settings>Messages>Receive At do you see both your email address and your phone number listed?

  • HT3529 I had a iphone 4s with imessage activated, I switched to android and now I can still text other people with iphones but they can't text me. What can I do?

I Had an iphone 4s with imessage activated,  I switched to an android and now I can't recieve texts from iphones that have imessage turned on. What can i do?

iMessage works by linking your Apple ID with your phone number
When you send and receive messages to and from other iPhone users who’ve also got iMessage activated, they’re sent and delivered over the internet as iMessages rather than as SMS
Non-Apple phones can’t receive iMessages so if you no longer use an iPhone, you need to deactivate it. This lets iPhones know to send you messages via SMS instead
If you’ve got access to your iPhone
Ensure your phone is connected to the internet (3G or Wi-Fi) so that the changes will sync with your Apple ID.
    Go into ‘Settings’.
    Tap ‘Messages’.
For ‘iMessage’, move the slider to ‘Off’.
If you don’t have access to your iPhone
    Go to supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do.
Log in with your Apple ID and password.
Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example).
    Click ‘Unregister’.
You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.

  • Issues with iMessage!

Hello! Like many other people, I am having issues with iMessage. I have an iPhone 5.
It was working before, but sporadically. I would be able to send something as an iMessage, but the next day it would switch to text messaging, even though I have SMS/MMS/etc. turned off. Currently, it's telling me it's "waiting for activation" and that there's an error everytime I try and reactivate identities.
I am currently in Turkey with all cellular data turned off (I will not be returning Stateside until end of June), but I do have access to wifi (which is what I've been using). I've tried a lot of the google fixes already (using it in airplane mode, doing a full reset of the phone, etc.), but nothing I do seems to work. It was activated before I left the US.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Is anyone having issues with imessages disappearing or not being delivered?

Is anyone having issues with imessages disappearing or not being delivered?

I too am experiencing this on my iPhone 4 after upgrading to 4.3.3. I am fairly convinced that it is a software issue. The last update seems jumpy. There appear to be more pauses and stuttering with screen changes too.  Sometime the button operates perfectely (even with repeated light touches). Other times, it doesn't matter how hard I press; it takes several presses. I notice it more when i am using a battery case or connected to an AT&T MicroCell. I am having a hard time pinpointing problematic apps, although i suspect that mail with my work Exchange account may be a culprit. I suggest posting your issues on Apple's iPhone feedback page, www.apple.com/feedback/iPhone.html, to ensure that they are looking into this problem. If it is a hardware issue, I'll be pretty upset as I received my iPhone 4 on day 1 of availability and it is out of warranty. Hoping for a fix with an update. Please post on the feedback page.

  • Is any one else having issues with iMessages since iOS7?

Since iOS7 I have been having issues with iMessages. They just stop sending and I have to re-start my iPhone or iPad to get these working again. This is happening to my friends as well on different networks but all on iOS7.
Is any one else having this issue?

They had the same issue with ios 4 when it came out and it was resolved with 4.0.1. Before I start the endless visits to noisy Apple stores, I'm hoping they will issue a fix for this and all the other bugs that are popping up.
Hopefully if enough people bring it up it'll get noticed.
    Thanks,

  • Phone number issue with iMessage

As relevant backstory, I have recently changed my cellphone number(July).
With the new update, I can now iMessage between fellow iPhone users who have updated their phones. However, in order to iMessage them, they need to message my old cell number, and if they use my new number it just comes up as regular SMS. When a phone other than an iPhone messages my old number, the message does not come to me.
In my settings, both my phone and message settings, my old number is still displayed, though there is no issue with incoming or outgoing calls with my new number, or texting, just with iMessage. I cannot change the number in messaging, as the number is greyed out, and when I attempt to add my new number to the contact for iMessage, it tells me it is an invalid entry.
I have reset all my settings, as well as restored my phone(attempted to iMessage before reapplying my settings both times) with no success.
I have spoke with my provider(BellCanada) in person and with their tech support, as well as I spent time with Apple technicians today. I am currently waiting for a message back from Apple engineers, but that won't be until next week when I hear from them.
If anyone out there has any other suggestions or recommendations, that would be wonderful! Cheers!

Hi, I am in Australia and olso had this issue with iMessage.
I found the following procedure fixed it.
On all my devices supporting iMessage, i did the following.
Setting -> messages -> send & receive - > use your apple id -> sign out.
    then
settings -> messages ->  Turn "iMessage" off
settings -> Facetime -> Turn "FaceTime" off
on my phone (where I had the original issue)
ettings -> messages ->  Turned "iMessage" on
waited two minutes for it to Verify and activate.
I was then ablle to send iMessages from my phone, using my phone number as the orginating address.
I then signed back in using my Apple id, and it was all good ;-)
    Setting -> messages -> send & receive - > use your apple id ....
    Hope this helps!

  • REAL problems with iMessage activation same with Face Time

I'm having real problems with IMessage activation same with FaceTime, the phone shows the activation is being made but it does not activate!
Apple ID and password is OK, it's working with other applications
    Any ideas guys?!

My daughters had the same problem with both of their iPod Touches.  One logged back into iMessage and FaceTime, the other consistently would not login with the same error, "An error occurred during activation.  Try again."
Check your date and time.  Its likely incorrect.  Once the date is corrected.  Restart the device.
For what ever reason, some devices lose track of the date.  In my case, apparently, my daughters change the date to affect a particular game by advancing the date.  Little cheaters. (LOL)
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I see from my contact who use iphone (ios 5) for contact with imessage?

How can I see from my contact who use iphone (ios 5) for contact with imessage?

Well, let take the personal service point of view : let say, I had two calendars on my iCloud account : one for work, one for my leisure activities.
On my MacBook Pro that I use at home as well as at my office, I would want the two calendars to show and since I am alone in my office, I would want the alerts for both my work and my leisure activities to show (and make a sound at the same time).
But on my iPad that I only use at home, I would only want my leisure activities alerts to show (and make a sound) and on my iPhone that I only use for work, I would only want my work alerts to show (and make a sound).
That is a personal service that simply does not work.
Why would Apple give us the opportunity to hide some calendars on certain devices but not allow us, on these same devices, to switch off the alerts linked to these calendars that we have chosen to hide ? Why having alerts of calendars that do not even show on these devices ?
And I am an Apple fan since 1984, since the very first Mac. I still do believe Macs and Apple devices and/or software (iOS, OS X and others...) are much better and much more efficient than " Microsoft, Windows, Google and other Android devices and software.
But that does not mean everything's perfect (and I find that quite normal).
Nevertheless, in this case, letting alerts make a sound on a device where a specific calendar is not shown, that does not make any sense : when uncheking those calendars, the alerts linked to those calendars should be automatically switch off (but alerts should be able to work on the calendars that are shown.)

  • What is the issue with iMessage with iOS7?

What is the issue with iMessage with iOS7?  I continue to have messages that are not sent.  Is there a config I need to modify since I went to iOS7 or is this "a feature" now?

NO ! its not a feature. its a bug and Apple will fix it soon. Meanwhile if you continue to have problem the best way to overcome this problem is to turn off iMessages and use Text messages instead btw if you text alot, your carrier might charge you for it if you dont have unlimited text messages. So be careful !

  • I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. What can I do?

I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. This happened once before and it was due to a buldging battery pressing on the track pad. I checked the battery and it appears to be fine. What can I do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
